A woman was killed Wednesday when a 6.6-foot high metal crucifix fell on her head in a small town in southern Italy, police said.
I'll bet all her friends are a lot more virtuous this morning than they were yesterday...
Maddalena Camillo, 72, was walking in the main square in the village of Sant'Onofrio when the crucifix toppled from a monument that was being restored for a religious celebration, police said.

In Antwerp, just a short walk from the Opera, is the Museum of Torture! The first thing you see as you enter the exhibitions is a copy of the Statue of Liberty blindfolded and bound with barb wire. I asked the guy selling tickets what that meant? "America is torturer to the world"!!
I now believe that we are in second place as the dumbest people on earth right behind Belgium.

The Secret Service is investigating two threats against GWB.
One a distraught mother who made threats after her son was killed in Iraq...
And the more sinister one, some whacko driving around in New York after being seen babbling incoherently, and a picture of the Prez found in his house with a threating message...
An Iranian woman, beaten every day by her husband, asked a court to tell him only to beat her once a week. Maryam, the middle-age woman, said she did not want to divorce her husband because she loved him. "Just tell him to beat me once a week ... Beating is part of his nature and he cannot stop it," Maryam told the court. sheeesh! talk about enabling...
"... and I really like the part where he gets out the Jolly Green Giant Creamed Corn..."
The Tehran court found the man guilty and banned him from beating the wife, the paper said. "If I do not beat her, she will not be scared enough to obey me," the husband said. "I'll only be half a man if I cannot beat the crap out of my wife"
"A year from now she'll have thrown out my leather chaps and she'll be making me bark like a dog!"

Reminds me of a (third-hand) story about a woman from southern Africa who complained to a confidante that she knew her husband was seeing someone else, because he didn't beat her any more.

Gives a whole meaning to "don't hit me lest you love me"...or some such drivel.

"The exercise will simulate an attack by a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled. Under the scenario, a bomb is placed on the bus and is detonated while the bus is traveling on Durham, causing the bus to land on its side and fill with smoke."
Okaaayyy... somebody in the bureaucracy should be looking for a new job (probably with the state Dem party).
Two more people were killed on Tuesday in the latest wave of the ongoing clash between the Solangi and Jagirani tribes, which has claimed more than 13 lives. The latest violence started when armed Solangi tribesmen fired at a bus near Nagan Joria and killed 20-year-old Kamal Jagirani of the Jagirani tribe. In reaction, Jagirani tribesmen reportedly kidnapped Nazeer Solangi from a bus near Ghaffar Shah and killed him. Tension increased in the area as the two tribes prepared for an armed clash. However, police and rangers are now patrolling the area to prevent fighting. The district police officer said the situation was under control and those responsible for the killings would soon be arrested.

I suppose when there isn't television or movie theaters, the young people find more creative ways to amuse themselves.
In the Land of the Pure, somebody actually has to tell the cops to do that.

But had not the cousins told everyone in the village of the girl's behaviour, the family's honour wouldn't have been impuned. I'm forced to wonder if they felt the boyfriend was treading on their private field?
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
