We have received official word from the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General, US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) at Fort Bragg, that MG (Retired) Shachnow passed away this morning. His bio is attached.

[FOX] A German tourist has been trampled to death by an elephant in Zimbabwe as she tried to take photos of it.
The 49-year-old was at the Mana Pools game reserve north of the country, where she reportedly left the vehicle she was travelling in, putting herself in great danger.
The woman was with a group of tourists who encountered a herd of elephants upon entering the park.
Tinashe Farawo, spokesman of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, said: “The information we have is that the tourists encountered a herd of elephants when they were entering the park and they started taking pictures.
“We do not know what irritated the animals which resulted in the woman being attacked. She passed on last night (Wednesday) from injuries.

Turner said in an interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" that airs this weekend that he’d prefer his old network had a more balanced agenda, "but that's just one man's opinion."
Turner hasn’t had anything to do with CNN for years. He’'s 79, and spoke in the CBS interview about his battle with a progressive brain disorder. He has Lewy Body Dementia, and said the main symptoms are exhaustion and forgetfulness.
Turner said he once thought about running for president when he was married to Jane Fonda. He said she told him that if you run for office, you run alone.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) reports that activists of the right-wing radical group Right Sector have seized the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity of the UOC-MP in the village of Bohorodchany in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
“They broke down the doors, smashed windows, and beat up believers. According to information obtained by the information and awareness-raising department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, one man sustained a concussion, another’s hand was broken, and the father superior of the church, Archpriest Volodymyr Shuvar, was also hurt,” the UOC-MP said on its official website on Sept. 28.
Ukraine’s National Police could not yet comment on the report, but promised to provide data a bit later.

[Al Jazeera] Danish police on Friday cut off the eastern island of Zealand, where the capital Copenhagen sits, from the rest of the country as well as from neighbouring Germany and Sweden as they launched a nationwide manhunt over a suspected kidnapping.
Bridges from Denmark's Zealand to the central island of Funen and to Sweden, as well as ferry crossings to Germany and Sweden, were closed, causing major traffic jams near bridges to Sweden and to the mainland.
Danish police said in a statement that they "are searching for a black Swedish-registered Volvo V90 with registration number ZBP 546".
"The vehicle probably contains three persons linked to a serious crime," the statement said.
Calle Persson, a press front man for the Swedish police, told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet the "scene of the crime" was Malmo airport in Sweden.
Television footage showed cars being checked as they drove through roadblocks at the Oresund bridge to Sweden, causing traffic jams up to 15km long, according to the Danish Road Directorate.
The car is registered with First Rent A Car in Stockholm. Police warned the public not to approach the individuals in the vehicle.
Denmark's TV2 said a police helicopter and a search with canine squads was spotted on the highway near Roskilde, 25km west of Copenhagen.
Copenhagen airport remained open during the manhunt, according to its website.
Copenhagen police later said all bridges and ferry crossings had been reopened, but heavily armed coppers were screening cars at bridges and ferries across the country.
Though the bridges and ferry crossings have opened, police "have personnel standing at every connection to make manual checks", Copenhagen police spokesperson Riad Tolba was quoted as saying by UK newspaper The Telegraph.

The A.B.A. request was made on Thursday evening in a letter from the association's president, Robert M. Carlson, to the Senate Judiciary Committee's chairman, Charles E. Grassley, an Iowa Republican, and Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, the senior Democrat on the panel.
The bar association urged that senators vote on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination "only after an appropriate background check into the allegations made by Professor Blasey and others is completed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation," the letter said.
The call for a pause is significant not just because of the bar association's clout in the legal community, but because an A.B.A. committee had said unanimously a month ago that Judge Kavanaugh was "well qualified" for the Supreme Court, its highest possible designation.

The Senate Judiciary Committee released this letter on Friday from the ABA stating that Robert Carlson, the President of the American Bar Association who wrote the letter, didn't get the it approved by the committee that actually votes on this sort of thing and that the ABA's rating of Judge Kavanaugh "is not affected"
So either the president went rogue... or they are playing both ends against the middle. If they are determined to be neutral they at least need to sensor the president, but better outright fire him. Otherwise the later statement by the committee is CYA statements and the organization needs to be denounced by the right.

He informed the Supreme Court that Axact CEO Shoaib Sheikh and two others have been incarcerated You have the right to remain silent... and moved to prison.
During the hearing, Axact's counsel claimed that Sheikh surrendered himself to the FIA. At this, the chief justice remarked that the Axact CEO could never present himself for arrest and he was aware of all what happened.

It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... . [Al Jazeera] Pope Francis defrocked a Chilean priest who was at the centre of a global sex abuse scandal rocking his papacy.
A statement issued by the Vatican on Friday said Father Fernando Karadima, 88, was "reduced to the lay state" by the pope, a move it called "exceptional" and done "for the good of the Church".
Karadima sexually abused teenage boys over many years and now lived in a home for the elderly in the Chilean capital, Santiago.
He was found guilty in a Vatican investigation in 2011 and ordered to live a life of "prayer and penitence", but was not defrocked at the time, the final years of the reign of former Pope Benedict.
That meant he was still a priest, although he could not minister in public.
Karadima, who has always denied any wrongdoing, escaped civilian justice because of the statute of limitations in the country.
Seven Chilean bishops have resigned since June after an investigation into an alleged cover-up of Karadima's crimes, some of them former proteges of Karadima, who prepared them for the priesthood as young men in Santiago's up-scale, conservative El Bosque neighbourhood.

An amendment sponsored by Democrats passed by voice vote to give women "a seat at the table" during diplomatic negotiations.
"When women's voices are heard, they can be catalysts for change‐especially when it comes to peace," said Rep. Lois Frankel (D., Fla.), after her amendment was included in the defense spending bill.
The amendment authorizes $1 million in taxpayer-funding for the Department of Defense to hire "gender advisors" and for training on "gender perspectives at the war colleges."
"I'm thrilled my amendment securing funding for women in security efforts passed today, which will: (1) provide $3 million for our military branches to implement the Women, Peace and Security Act, helping countries to integrate women into security efforts and (2) Provide the Department of Defense $1 million to hire gender advisors who will assist in military missions and training to make sure more women are involved in foreign operations," Frankel said. "Women can create long-lasting peace‐let's give them a seat at the table!"
The text of the amendment specifically calls for $900,000 for training on the "meaningful participation of women" and $100,000 for training on "gender perspectives."

[News and Observer] A military fighter jet crashed on a small island about five miles from the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort just before noon Friday, according officials from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Marine Corps.
The pilot ejected safely, but was being evaluated for injuries, according to Capt. Bob Bromage, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. There were no other injuries reported. No one on the ground was hurt.
The plane crash was reported on Little Barnwall Island near Clarendon Road and Joe Allen Drive in the Grays Hill area at 11:45 a.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
