Afghanistan
ISIS claims attack on Pakistani check post along Durand Line
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The affiliates of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group have claimed an attack on Pak security forces check post along the Durand Line.

It is the first such assault claimed by the ISIS affiliates who are believed to be the former members of the Pak Taliban group -- Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

An ISIS affiliate told Rooters that the attack was carried out late on Saturday in Damadola district of the Bajaur tribal area in Pakistain's northwest, where the military has been battling a murderous Moslem insurgency since 2007.

He said "Our men destroyed the post, set it on fire and left it after our operation was complete."

The attack was also reportedly confirmed by two Pak intelligence officials but they said no casualties were incurred.

This comes as the terror group's self proclaimed Khurasan province chief Sheikh Jalaluddin issued a video statement on Saturday calling Pakistain's military intelligence -- Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) as infidels.

Sheikh Jalaluddin vowed to continue attacks both in Afghanistan and Pakistain in a bid to enforce a Sharia law.

This comes as the Afghan ambassador to Pakistain Mosazai warned earlier that that the ISIS terror group was spreading "its propaganda and obscurantist worldview" also in Pakistain, similar as other parts of the world.

Speaking during a seminar on Countering Violence Extremism, Mosazai said the former the gunnies of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) are shifting over to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group.

He said TTP gunnies have infiltrated into Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province and switched over to the black flag or Daesh, which we have been containing," Mosazai quoted by local media reports said.

Islamists Kill Policeman in Mali
[AnNahar] Islamists from a group linked to a deadly hotel siege have attacked a police post in central Mali, killing an officer, military and local government sources said Sunday.

"On Saturday, armed Islamists fired on three gendarmes in Bankass, at a security post," said a Malian army source in the regional capital Mopti, around 100 kilometers (60 miles) away, adding that one of the officers died.

Mahamane Cisse, a councilor in the Mopti region, said the "terrorists" were fighters for radical Islamic preacher Amadou Koufa's Macina Liberation Front.

Little is known about the krazed killer group, but it was linked to a hostage drama at a hotel in nearby town of Sevare in August in which 13 people died, including five U.N. workers.

Cisse said the fighters in Saturday's attack moved on after killing the police officer to a nearby local government building.

"There, they set fire to two vehicles and the residence of the sub-prefect, who fortunately was not there," he added.

"It was the men of Amadou Koufa of the Macina Liberation Front that did it."

Koufa is close to Souleyman Mohammed Kennen, who grabbed credit for the Byblos hotel siege in a brief phone conversation soon after with AFP.

"The hand of Allah has guided the mujahedeen of Sevare against the enemies of Islam," Kennen said, adding that Koufa had given his "blessing" to the attack.

In 2012, Kennen was part of the Malian wing of fighters led by notorious Algerian jihadist commander Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a founding member of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), who now heads his own group.

Northern Mali was then under the control of jihadist movements linked to al-Qaeda and ethnic Tuareg rebel forces. The main towns in the desert territory were recaptured from the Lions of Islam with the help of French and African troops in 2013.

Security forces in Mali have jugged

at least 10 suspects over the Byblos hotel siege, which began on August 7 and lasted almost 24 hours.

Four foreign employees of the U.N.'s peacekeeping mission in Mali were killed, along with a Malian civilian driver, four "terrorists" and four soldiers, according to the government.

Army reinforcements arrived in the Bankass area on Sunday "to protect people and look for terrorists," the military source said.

Mexican tourists killed by Egyptian security forces
Security forces in Egypt have mistakenly killed 12 people, including Mexican tourists, during an anti-terror operation, the interior ministry says.

The tourists were travelling in four vehicles that entered a restricted zone in the Wahat area of the Western Desert, a ministry statement said.

Ten Mexicans and Egyptians were also injured and are being treated in a local hospital.

The ministry said it had formed a team to investigate the incident.

Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto condemned the incident and said he had "demanded an exhaustive investigation by the Egyptian government".

The Mexican foreign ministry confirmed that at least two of its national had been killed and said it was working to confirm the identities of the other victims. In a statement, it said Mexico's ambassador in Egypt, Jorge Alvarez Fuentes, had visited the local hospital and spoken to five Mexicans who were in a stable condition.

The statement (in Arabic) from Egypt's interior ministry said the four vehicles the tourists were travelling in were "mistakenly dealt with" during a joint military police and armed forces operation. It said the incident happened on Sunday in an area that "was off limits to foreign tourists" but it did not give an exact location.

The vast Western Desert area is popular with foreign sightseers, but is also attractive to militants. The region is a gateway to the long border with Libya and the weapons available on the other side.

"According to initial information, nine people have died and 20 were maimed," the official said, giving a toll that included the bombers.

The attacks in the far northern town of Kolofata brought to nine the number of suicide kabooms in the area since July.

Arabia
Saudi forces launch fresh offensive in Yemen
[THETIMES.CO.UK] Saudi-led forces loyal to Yemen’s exiled government have launched a “decisive” operation against Houthi rebels, hours after pulling out of UN-backed peace talks aimed at ending the six-month civil war.

Ground troops, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, pushed forward in the disputed Marib province that borders the capital Sanaa, military officials said. It is the first step in retaking the capital from the Iran-backed Houthis who stormed to power in January.

Yemen's Exiled Gov't Quits UN Peace Talks
Yemen's exiled government said on Sunday it would no longer attend UN-mediated peace talks with its Houthi adversaries. Loyalists of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi have been battling the Iran-allied militia across the country since late March, when the group forced him and his administration to flee to Saudi Arabia.

"(The government) confirmed it would not take part in any meeting until the coup militia recognize international resolution 2216 and accepts to implement it unconditionally," the official state news agency Saba said.

Hailing the now-scuppered talks on Friday, the UN Security Council had urged the parties to refrain from preconditions and "unilateral actions".

Peace talks in June failed to end the fighting, which has brought the country to the brink of famine, killed more than 4,500 people and led to a security vacuum that has strengthened Al-Qaida's Yemen branch.

Bangladesh
DB: 3 Hizb ut-Tahrir preachers identified
[Dhaka Tribune] Officials of the Detective Branch of police have claimed to have identified three out of six speakers at the online political conference of banned Death Eater outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir held on September 4.

Of the trio, one is a private university teacher, who played key role in organising the event held somewhere near the capital. Another is a student of a private university in Dhaka. Around 740 users logged in to the designated website but only 400 among them attended the whole session. Among them were journalists, police and intelligence officials.

Although the conference was supposed to be aired live, the organisers uploaded a two-hour recorded video of the speeches after the scheduled time.

The law enforcers had incarcerated

several members of the banned group ahead of the event for campaigning on the streets, but they did not stop the conference "for the sake of investigation."

"We have identified three of the speakers after analysing the video conference and arrest of its seven members, who actively took part in the conference," DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said yesterday.

Sources said the detectives had identified Shibli Ahmed, Karim Abu Jahidiur, Chowdhury Mohammad Galib and Harunur Rashid. Detectives are now trying to trace them.

Based on a tip-off, the DB cyber crime unit conducted a drive in the capital's Khilkhet area around 11pm on Saturday and arrested the seven Death Eaters. They are Ekramul Khayer alias Opu, Abdul Kaiyum, Nazmul Hasan alias Nipon, Ibrahim Sheikh, Rashedul Islam Sheikh, Ariful Islam and SM Tarek Amin. Huge number of leaflets, radical books and mobile phones were recovers from their possessions.

A case was filed under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act. A Dhaka court later placed them each on a two-day remand. Of the arrestees, Opu, Kaiyum, Ibrahim and Rashed were arrested earlier and served jail time in cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the Anti-Terrorism Act that is applied against outlawed groups, any activity of such organization -- in any form -- is considered as anti-state. They claim that caliphate will ensure justice in the society.

Having branches in a number of countries, Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
started its operation in Bangladesh in 2000 and was banned in 2009 for its involvement in Death Eater activities.

"Arif used Facebook as Enlighted Thinker while Tarek as ASM Tareq Amin. They used to post anti-state remarks on the social networking site," said Monirul, while addressing a briefing at the DMP media and community centre.

Also chief of DB police, Monirul said that the group had organised the online conference to declare their presence at national and international levels. Asked whether any defence officials were involved with Hizbut Tahrir, Monirul replied in the negative.

Turkey: Belgian journalists held in SE Turkey
[AA.TR] Turkish coppers briefly detained three Belgian journalists -- who planned to cross into Syria -- in southeastern province of Sanliurfa on Sunday.

Security sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the journalists wanted to enter Syria to cover war-torn Kurdish-populated Kobani town near the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The journalists, Robin Rama Ekers, Jo Verstichel and Nicolas Becker, were freed after being questioned over observing the Kobani side from a house in Sanliurfa's border district of Birecik.

Daesh turban group attacked Kobani in mid-September 2014, with the town turning into a scene of fierce festivities between Kurdish groups and the turbans.

Kobani has been declared free from Daesh but the city was totally destroyed during the war and about 180,000 Syrian Kurdish refugees remain in Turkey.

Second curfew declared in Turkey's Cizre
[Hurriyet Daily News] A second curfew has been declared in the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Sirnak amid operations to apprehend members of the "terrorist organization," the Sirnak Governor's Office has stated.

The latest curfew comes less than 48 hours since the controversial last curfew ended.

The curfew is scheduled to begin from 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 until further notice, the governor's office added.

The first curfew declared on Sept. 4 in Cizre was lifted on Sept. 12, after leaving the locals deprived of health and funeral services and access to food for days, according to witnesses and photographs from the town.

Clashes, Kurdish militant bombing kill 9 in Turkey
[ARABNEWS] Kurdish holy warriors killed two coppers in a car kaboom on a checkpoint in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Sunday, as authorities imposed a curfew in the region's largest city Diyarbakir where festivities broke out, security sources said.

Turkish forces backed up by helicopters and commandos shelled a mountainous area where the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters had fled after the checkpoint attack in Sirnak province, killing six of them, the sources added.

A police officer was reported killed in another confrontation.

The Diyarbakir governor's office said it had placed the central historic Sur district under a round-the-clock curfew. Security sources said seven coppers were maimed in festivities there.

In other central areas of the city, police fired tear gas and water cannon at small groups of youths who threw stones and tried to set up street barricades in protest against the curfew.

Speaking to news hounds near the Sur district, the leader of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtas, called for the Turkish state and PKK leadership across the border in Iraq's Qandil mountains to halt the violence and return to peace talks.

"Both Ankara and Qandil must take a position that responds to the people's expectation with a clear, concrete project," he said.

#1  The wrong kind of scholars?

Wikipedia The movement developed as a reaction to British colonialism in India, which was believed by a group of prominent Indian scholars — consisting of Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, Muhammad Yaqub Nanautawi, Shah Rafi al-Din, Sayyid Muhammad Abid, Zulfiqar Ali, Fadhl al-Rahman Usmani and Muhammad Qasim Nanotvi — to be corrupting the Islamic religion. They therefore founded an Islamic seminary known as Darul Uloom Deoband.[6] From here the Islamic revivalist and anti-imperialist ideology of the Deobandis began to develop.[7] Gradually Darul Uloom Deoband became the second largest focal point of Islamic teachings and research after the Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. Through organisations such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and Tablighi Jamaat its ideology began to spread and the graduates of Darul Uloom Deoband from countries like Saudi Arabia, China and Malaysia opened up thousands of madrasas throughout South Asia, specifically in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Toward the independence of India, Deobandis advocated a notion of composite nationalism according to which Hindus and Muslims constituted one nation and thus were united in the struggle against the British. In 1919 a large group of Deobandi scholars formed the political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and opposed the Pakistan Movement. A minority group joined Muhammad Ali Jinnah's Muslim League, forming Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in 1945.

Four suspects involved in TV journalist's murder arrested
[DAWN] Police on Sunday detained four suspects allegedly involved in the killing of former TV journalist Aftab Alam and other recent murders in Central District.

A senior police official who wished not to be named told Dawn that police's Counter-Terrorism Department detained one main suspect in Aftab Alam's murder case. On his information, the police detained three more suspects.

Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
-West DIG Feroze Shah while talking to Dawn confirmed arrests of the suspects in the TV journalist's murder case.

The DIG said the held suspects belonged to a sect-based group which also had association with 'a political party.'

Aftab Alam was killed in a gun attack when unknown assailants opened fire on him near his home in North Karachi's Sector 11-C. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
He's dead, Jim!
after an external examination.

Feroze Shah claimed that Aftab Alam was not targeted on account of being a media person. He was targeted on sectarian grounds, believed the senior officer.

He said the tossed in the slammer

suspects were also allegedly involved in the killing of restaurant owner Rehan in Nazimabad on August 16.

They also allegedly killed two men, Imran and Waqas, in an attack on a bakery in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri on the same day when Aftab Alam was bumped off in North Karachi.

All suspects belong to the Deobandi school of thought, said the official.

He opined that the main motive of the killers was to stoke sectarian violence by targeting members of one particular sect with Muharram-ul-Haram approaching.

[DAWN] Clashes broke out in Indian-held Kashmire on Sunday when Kashmiri students chanted pro-Pakistain and pro-freedom slogans at the venue of a marathon in Srinagar.

Footage showed the university students as chanting "Pakistain! Pakistain!" and pro-freedom slogans at the venue of the 'Big Kashmire Marathon' in Hazratbal area of Srinagar as Indian forces fired tear-gas shells and baton charged the young demonstrators, a news channel reported while quoting Kashmire Media Service (KMS).

The 21-kilometre marathon was scheduled to begin from Naseem Bagh at the Kashmire University and go along the scenic Dal Lake.

Kashmiri youth shouted slogans in favour of freedom and pelted rocks on the forces guarding the venue in the varsity. Police and paramilitary forces fired teargas shells on protesters at Habak crossing near the venue.

Speaking to a news channel (Geo News), senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani said that under the influence of power, the Indian administration has been ignoring reality on the ground in held Kashmire.

"If they had taken notice, then the armed occupation would have ended a long time ago," he told the news channel.

The youth marathon comes after two days of strikes in Indian Held Kashmire on the call of Hurriyat leaders.

The organisers said the aim of the 'Big Kashmire Marathon', in which professional runners from outside India also participated, was to promote healthy lifestyle and raise awareness.

ISIS kills Mosul's Rasheed Radio director
[RUDAW.NET] A group of ISIS fighters launched an attack on Yahiya Abed Ahmed, the director of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
's Rasheed Radio, and shot him to death, the Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedoms announced Sunday.
Was this official policy, I wonder, or just some of the lads having a bit too much fun?
"Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
elements launched an attack at dawn on Saturday on the home of Yahiya Abed Ahmed, the manager of Mosul's Rasheed Radio, in a very ugly way and shot him to death," the observatory said in a release.

The gunnies later returned to Ahmed's house, stole his personal computer and told Ahmed's family to come and take his corpse, the observatory added.

In early 2015, ISIS began broadcasting its own programming on 92.5 FM out of Mosul, calling it Al-Bayan Radio. According to an official with the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Mosul, ISIS began Al-Bayan after seizing Rasheed Radio's offices and using its equipment for its own broadcasts.

Al-Bayan can be heard as far away as Erbil and Duhok, and broadcasts in Kurdish, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, French and English.

According to the observatory, the number of journalists executed in Mosul since ISIS took over the city in June 2014 has increased to 46.

Police, Palestinian protesters clash on Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Israeli police clashed with protesters at the flashpoint Temple Mount complex in Jerusalem early Sunday morning and broke up an attempt to disrupt Jewish visits to the site, which is holy to both Jews and Muslims, police said. Palestinian witnesses said police entered the mosque, but police only said they closed the doors to the mosque to lock in rioters throwing stones, fireworks and other objects.

Intelligence information gathered by security forces discovered a plan for an organized riot on the Temple Mount, with protesters stockpiling rocks and firecrackers as well as a barricade at an entrance to the al-Aqsa mosque, police said.

According to police, the intention of the demonstrators was to upset the movements of Jewish visitors in the compound ahead of the Rosh Hashanah holiday, which begins Sunday evening and marks the Jewish new year.

“Masked protesters who were inside the mosque threw stones and fireworks at police,” a police statement said. “Suspicious pipes that could be filled with homemade explosives were also found at the entry to the mosque.”

Police later confirmed that the objects were pipe bombs.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said the discovery of pipe bombs at the al-Aqsa mosque “forces us to reconsider the arrangements for the Temple Mount.”

Erdan went on to congratulate the Jerusalem Police for enabling Jewish visits to the site “despite the Muslim rioters who turned the site into a war zone.”

Despite the disturbances, Jewish visits to the site continued as usual. Among those who entered the compound was Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel of the right-wing Jewish Home party, the Haaretz daily reported.

Jerusalem Police Commander Moshe Edri said the success in preventing any disruptions was a credit to the security forces.

“The overnight activity, conducted along with the Shin Bet [security service], proves the accuracy of our intelligence,” he said. “The incident this morning on the Temple Mount was serious and is being looked into by the relevant authorities.”

Clashes near Damascus kill 80 in six days
At least 80 rebels and regime fighters have been killed in six days of clashes northeast of Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said Sunday.

The deaths came in clashes that began on Tuesday when two prominent rebel groups launched simultaneous attacks on three areas outside the capital. The attacks have focused on the areas of Harasta, Dahiyat Al Assad and the region around Adra prison, the monitor said.

"Clashes since September 8 have killed 46 rebels and 41 regime forces, including from pro-regime militias," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman.

In Damascus city meanwhile, the Observatory said one person had been killed and 10 wounded in rebel fire on the Bab Tuma district.

Rebel forces regularly fire rockets into Damascus from rear bases on the city's outskirts.

The regime frequently carries out deadly air strikes on the rebel-held areas outside Damascus, often killing dozens of civilians at a time.
