[Wash Examiner] Deborah Ramirez, a Yale University classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, is refusing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee about her accusation against Kavanaugh, a GOP lawmaker said Tuesday.
Ramirez lawyer John Clune tweeted Tuesday that "We have been working hard to cooperate with the Senate Judiciary Committee...and they have refused to meet all scheduled appointments." He said Ramirez wants an FBI investigation, not a congressional investigation, and is willing to "swear to the FBI under penalty of perjury."
A top Judiciary Committee GOP aide told the Washington Examiner in response to the Clune claim, "The Ramirez legal team has declined to comply with the committee’s established process and investigation and seem to prefer working through the media."
Clune is scheduled to appear on CNN tonight.
Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., who sits on the committee, said a lawyer for Ramirez told committee staff she would not speak to them about her allegation that Kavanaugh flashed his naked groin in her face during an alcohol-laden party their freshman year. Ramirez made the accusation in a blockbuster Sunday night New Yorker story.
"Our counsel repeatedly tried to reach him," Kennedy said of Ramirez's lawyer. "They finally did reach him, and he said we are not issuing a statement. He said if you want our statement, read the New Yorker."
[FOX] A man was arrested in Florida Saturday after he shot and killed an 8-month-old puppy with a high-powered pellet rifle from a second-floor balcony, according to police.
The David Police Department said in a Facebook post that Johansen Concepcion De La Ros, 19, faces a charge of felony cruelty to animals.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m., when the owners of the dog, named "Princess," were walking the animal around the Centro Apartments, located about 25 miles north of Miami. Police said Ros, while armed with the pellet rifle with the scope, "took a knee, lined up the cross hairs, and took a shot, killing the little dog."
The dog's owner didn't know what had happened when Princess began to bleed from the mouth, and was able to seek help from an off-duty officer from the Pembroke Pines Police Department who happened to be driving in the area at the time and saw the incident.
Police posted photos showing in graphic detail the dog after it was shot, with blood on its mouth and on a sidewalk.

When I see crimes like this I think society caught one early. This guy is a psychopath and would have been a serial killer or a really bad gangbanger with a large bodycount if he hadn't gotten caught early.
[ARABNEWS] The confirmed corpse count from a 7.4-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent tsunami that hit Indonesia’s central Sulawesi province rose to 832 on Sunday. Most of the casualties were from Palu, the historic provincial capital and one of the hardest-hit areas.
Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said 821 of the casualties were from Palu and 11 from neighboring Donggala district. Officials feared the figure could rise to more than 1,000, judging from past experience handling the tsunami that hit Aceh in 2004.
"It is expected the number of victims will continue to rise as many of them are still unidentified, trapped under collapsed buildings and in areas that rescuers still can’t reach," BNPB front man Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.
Nugroho added that 71 foreigners from nine countries were affected by the disaster that hit the province on Friday, but most of them are safe and have been accounted for. More than half of the foreigners are from Thailand and China but they have been reported safe, while three French and one Malaysian are still unaccounted for.
"A South Korean national is thought to have been in Roa-Roa Hotel in Palu which collapsed in the earthquake," Nugroho said.
Rescue personnel are still searching for victims under the hotel debris, where it is estimated up to 60 people have been buried under the ruins and those beneath the rubble of shopping malls, residential houses and many other damaged buildings in the city as well as those who were swept away from Talize Beach.

The spammer was posting several dozen a minute for over two hours, Frank. At that point even the minimal politeness of spamcopping goes by the wayside. Partway through, magpie mentioned the number 1188. Thanks for all the heads up, guys. I was leisurely wandering through the Burg as we drove back from visiting trailing daughter #2 and her darling husband when I saw the first warning, and added my muscle to the deletion effort already underway — three cheers for Frank, Skidmark, and Besoeker for holding the line, and badanov for shutting it down.
[PRESSTV] The Trump administration has been shipping undocumented children to an isolated camp on a desert in West Texas during the night..
In recent weeks, children have been taken there in the middle of the night, multiple US news outlets reported Sunday.
The mass transfer is part of the administration’s attempts to find room for more than 13,000 detained migrant children.
More than 1,600 kids have been shipped to West Texas so far as the mass reshuffling is underway.
"It is common to use influx shelters as done on military bases in the past, and the intent is to use these temporary facilities only as long as needed," Evelyn Stauffer, a spokeswoman for the Health and Human Services Department, was quoted as saying in a New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... report.
Stauffer further called for an amelioration in the United States’ "broken immigration system."
"The number of families and unaccompanied alien children apprehended are a symptom of the larger problem, namely a broken immigration system," she said. "Their ages and the hazardous journey they take make unaccompanied alien children vulnerable to human trafficking, exploitation and abuse. That is why H.H.S. joins the president in calling on Congress to reform this broken system."
The migrant minors detained are currently kept in roughly 100 shelters in the US.
"Obviously we have concerns about kids falling through the cracks, not getting sufficient attention if they need attention, not getting the emotional or mental health care that they need," said Leah Chavla, a lawyer with advocacy group Women’s Refugee Commission. "This cannot be the right solution... We need to focus on making sure that kids can get placed with sponsors and get out of custody."

[Daily Leader] Marquis Aaron Flowers, the suspect in the fatal shooting of two Brookhaven police officers early Saturday, has had run-ins with the law before.
In March 2017, Flowers ‐ while wearing an electronic ankle monitor ‐ was charged with fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and stealing a vehicle by Natchez police, in connection with a high-speed chase the previous month.
He was 24 at the time, and living at 426 East Independence St. ‐ the same address given by investigators following his arrest Saturday in connection with the murders of Brookhaven policemen Zach Moak, 31; and Kevin James White, 35, at a home at 600 North Sixth St.
On Feb. 22, 2017, Flowers was accused of fleeing when an Adams County deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for a seat belt violation. Due to the high-speed chase entering an area of high traffic around Walmart, the deputy called the chase off.
Natchez police officers then spotted the vehicle traveling approximately 70 miles per hour and gave chase until Flowers allegedly abandoned the car in the Melrose-Montebello area and fled on foot.
[Daily Mail] The two Koreas on Monday started to remove landmines along a section of their heavily fortified border as part of a summit deal to ease military tensions, Seoul said.
The agreement between the nations -- which are technically still at war -- was reached at a meeting in Pyongyang last month between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un.
The summit was the third this year between the leaders, following a rapid thaw in relations.
Both sides undertook to carry out landmine removal work at the Joint Security Area (JSA) over a 20-day period, according to the South Korean defence ministry.
A spokesman said the operation had begun on both sides, though this was not confirmed by the North.
The JSA, also known as the truce village of Panmunjom, is the only spot along the tense, 250-kilometre (155 miles) frontier where troops from the two countries stand face to face.
[Daily Caller] The United States and Canada have reached a tenatative agreement on a renegotiated NAFTA. According to CBC News, a senior government source is saying there is agreement in principle after resolving a number of contentious issues.
Sources also confirmed to Global News that a deal has been finalized.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a late Sunday night cabinet meeting to discuss the progress. Canada will reportedly be allowing greater access to its dairy market ‐ something President Donald Trump has long demanded.
Trump earlier this week virtually proclaimed NAFTA to be a dead deal because Trudeau did "not seem to want to move" on its supply management dairy policy that maintains a 300 percent tariff on milk products. Trump also expressed his dislike for Canada’s chief trade negotiator, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland.
"The fact talks are still going on shows there are issues to be settled," an anonymous source told Global on Sunday, suggesting there had been a change for the better in the rapport between the respective U.S. and Canadian negotiators was positive.
I had naively assumed that the "FT" in NAFTA meant real free trade. I was shocked when Trump revealed that Canada was charging tariffs up to 275% on our dairy products. Time to level the playing field!

[PRESSTV] Thousands of people gathered in a central square in Rome to protest against the budget plan announced by the populist government last week.
The rally was organised by the main opposition party, the Democratic party, which criticized the government's announcement of a sharp public spending increase that will push the budget deficit to 2.4 percent of gross domestic product next year.
Italia's government partners, the 5-Star movement and the League, pressed for money to fulfill campaign pledges, namely a basic citizen's income for job seekers and a flat tax.
Finance Minister Giovanni Tria, who is politically unaligned, had wanted to keep the budget deficit capped at no more than 2 percent. The leader of the 5-Star Movement, Luigi Di Maio, called the document approved early Friday by the Cabinet "a maneuver of the people."
The announcement caused Italia's stock market to fall and was severely criticized by the opposition.

Serbian ambassador to the Russian federation said Saturday in a radio interview that Kosovo special forces have taken over the approaches to hydroelectric station Gazivod and Lake Gazivod in Kosovo and Metohija provinces in Kosovo.
According to data supplied by regnum.ru, Slavenko Terzic, said actions by units of the Kosovo Interior Ministry are regarded by Serbia as a provocation.
In a separate report in regnum.ru, Serbian president Alexander Vučić has ordered Serbian military forces to full alert status because of the actions by Kosovo.
The report said that 60 Kosovar fighters took part in the takeover, which included approaches and other buildings in the area.
[Breitbart] A new poll released by The Missouri Scout on Saturday shows that Republican challenger Josh Hawley has taken a two point lead over Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) in the Missouri Senate race just days after she announced she will be voting against the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Hawley leads McCaskill by a margin of 48 percent to 46 percent in the poll conducted by Missouri Scout over two days, from Wednesday, September 26 to Thursday, September 27.
McCaskill announced her opposition to Kavanaugh on September 19. The second day of the poll was conducted on the same day Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of attempting to sexually assault her 36 years ago at a time and place she cannot recall and with no corroborating witnesses or evidence, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The poll of 1,555 likely voters in Missouri has a 2.5 percent margin of error.
Significantly, the poll found that 49 percent of likely voters said the Supreme Court confirmation process for Brett Kavanaugh has made them less likely to vote for McCaskill, while only 42 percent said it made them more likely to vote for her.

IMO there a lot of people who oppose the Sen. Dem. assault on Kavanaugh. If it could happen to Kavanaugh, it could happen to anyone the left deems an enemy.
#2
I think the Rasmussan daily tracking poll shows more people favor Kavanaugh than oppose. Poll is typically a three day tracking so it'd still have pre-Thursday data in the last one I saw.
Dr. Christina Ford testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee that she began having memories related to being abused years ago when she and her husband put a second front door on her house.
As The Gateway Pundit reported on Saturday ‐ with photos ‐ the second front door was installed years before she claimed in her testimony.
Now it looks more likely that the second door was not related to any abuse at all. This may have been totally made up.
In her testimony on Thursday, Dr. Ford stated that she put a second door on her house in 2012:
Over the years, I told very, very few friends that I had this traumatic experience. I told my husband before we were married that I had experienced a sexual assault. I had never told the details to anyone ‐ the specific details ‐ until May 2012, during a couples counseling session.
The reason this came up in counseling is that my husband and I had completed a very extensive, very long remodel of our home and I insisted on a second front door, an idea that he and others disagreed with and could not understand.
In explaining why I wanted a second front door, I began to describe the assault in detail. I recall saying that the boy who assaulted me could someday be on the U.S. Supreme Court, and spoke a bit about his background at an elitist all-boys school in Bethesda, Maryland. My husband recalls that I named my attacker as Brett Kavanaugh.
We now have proof that this was a lie ‐ a major lie. This was the basis for the entire story she told the US Senate Judiciary Committee under oath ‐ And this was NOT TRUE.
As noted previously Dr. Ford and her husband put the second front door on their house sometime after 2008.
Ford’s house in 2007 ‐ there was only one door pictured.
Now it turns out that the second door may not have been put in because of Dr. Ford’s alleged groping by Supreme Court nominee Judge Kavanaugh.
It may be more likely that the second door on the Ford house was installed to house renters or as a means for customers to visit a business set up in the house.
There may have been a business running out of the household with the second front door.
According to information found on the Internet, a business was located at the exact same address as the Ford house (please note that the address of this house was released on the Internet weeks ago). The Couples Research Center was located at the exact same location as the Ford’s home.
It seems more plausible that the second door was put in place so a business could operate at the Ford house or so renters had separate quarters than due to some decades old memories of abuse. What is the real reason?
Pix @ link. And, yes, it is not uncommon for micro-businesses to hang a shingle and operate out of their home. The city I live in issued a permit a few months ago for this very purpose. Hello, Senate? Could you please do an appropriate FOIA request?
So, she stated that, as a result of her counseling sessions of 2012, she got hubby to agree to the installation of a second egress door. Yet the install permit is from 2008?

You would think the back bedroom door would be more relevant to relieving her alleged mental issues, but she chose to speak about the front door. Why? Did she think the front door is more obvious and that people wouldn't dig? This is bad for her. She's manipulative.
“The reason this came up in counseling is that my husband and I had completed a very extensive, very long remodel of our home and I insisted on a second front door, an idea that he and others disagreed with and could not understand. In explaining why I wanted a second front door, I began to describe the assault in detail”

The FBI will sort out what are her lies and what are her lawyers lies. I suspect the lawyer will get disbarred over this but get a book deal. Ford will be abandoned entirely but will avoid jail for perjury as it would look terrible and the GOP doesn't have the stones.

[Al Jazeera] Former Maldives president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been released on bail a week after his estranged half-brother Abdulla Yameen was defeated in a presidential election.
Gayoom, the Indian Ocean island nation's longest-serving leader, and his politician son Faris Maumoon were released on Sunday by the High Court in capital Male after they filed fresh appeals against their controversial convictions.
Gayoom, 80, was tossed in the slammer Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! in February along with the country's chief justice and another Supreme Court judge for attempting to topple Yameen, who declared a 45-day state of emergency to block his impeachment.
The High Court released Gayoom on a bail of 60,000 rufiyaa ($3,900) and he was also ordered not to travel abroad without its permission.
Gayoom was serving a 19-month jail term for obstruction of justice and was also under trial on a "terrorism" charge.
"Finally, they are all home," Gayoom's daughter Yumna Maumoon said on Twitter.
"Hope and pray that all political prisoners will be released soon. The nightmare is finally over Insha Allah. Thank you all who struggled hard for this day."

[DAWN] HYDERABAD: Police finally found out on Saturday evening that the murderer of seven-year-old Armeesh was none other than her own mother who confessed before police to killing her daughter in her house in Latifabad Unit-10 on Thursday.
CIA police interrogated the victim’s mother Shagufta after examining another video footage from the same closed-circuit television camera installed in the street, showing a woman without a burqa visiting the street.
The earlier footage had a woman in burqa walking down the street with a plastic bag containing the girl’s body and placing it beside a wall.
Police showed the new footage to the victim’s father Aftab Arain and asked him to identify the woman. "After seeing it he broke down and told us she is none other than his wife," said DSP CIA centre Aslam Langah.
He said that when police confronted Shagufta with the footage "she confessed it right away".
She told police that she had left the body in the street while wearing burqa and took back the bag for fear her husband could easily identify it. She came back again without a burqa to see if the body was still there, said the DSP.
"Shagufta said that Aftab wanted more babies but she feared if she had more children she might develop ovarian cancer. The issue led to frequent bickering and finally her husband threatened to divorce her and keep Armeesh with him," said the official.
According to Mr Langah, Shagufta killed Armeesh at her house on Thursday by putting pillow on her face. "Shagufta said she took the step in extreme desperation as it was useless to live after being divorced. She decided to kill her daughter and commit suicide too," he said quoting the woman.
He said that she claimed attempting suicide after killing her daughter and inflicting injuries on her wrist with a knife or a razor blade. She had marks of fresh injuries when she was nabbed Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! , he said.
Police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else on Thursday on the complaint lodged by Aftab Arain, father of the victim, at B-section cop shoppe Latifabad under Section 302 against unknown persons.

[DAWN] SARGODHA: A transporter allegedly kidnapped a girl who filed a case against him for sexually assaulting her after luring her to his house on the pretext of offering her a job as a bus hostess.
The suspect was allegedly pressing the girl’s family to withdraw the case in exchange for Rs500,000. The girl’s mother appealed to the chief minister to help recover her daughter who has been missing for two days.
The mother alleged that a local transporter called her daughter to his residence on the pretext of a job interview where he raped her. When a case was registered against him at Sajid Shaheed cop shoppe, the suspect kidnapped the girl and offered Rs500,000 for withdrawing the case.
The mother alleged that police were favouring the suspect and pressing her to withdraw the case, saying otherwise she would not get her daughter back.
A moharrar at the cop shoppe concerned said a case was registered against the transporter and an accomplice under Section 376 of the PPC and police were conducting raids for their arrest. He denied any favour to the suspects.

[DAWN] Zarrar Haider Khan, joint secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production and a BS-20 officer of the state bureaucracy's elite Pakistain Administrative Service cadre, has been suspended from service on disciplinary grounds after he was caught stealing.
The disgraced officer had caused embarrassment to the country after being caught on closed-circuit TV (CCTV) camera stealing a foreign dignitary's wallet and pocketing it.
The dignitary was a member of the Kuwaiti delegation which was visiting the country to discuss investment plans in Pakistain.
Sources said the theft was caught on CCTV after members of the Kuwaiti delegation lodged a strong protest.
In the six-second leaked video clip, which also went viral on social media, the bureaucrat could be seen lifting the wallet from the table and putting it into his pocket at a time when the Kuwaiti delegates and officials of the ministry had left the hall of the Economic Affairs Division after their meeting.
The issue came to light when a member of the Kuwaiti delegation lodged a complaint with Pak officials regarding his missing wallet, which reportedly contained a significant sum of Kuwaiti dinars.
A search was conducted in the ministry and all rooms and offices were combed. Even lower grade employees of the ministry were quizzed and physically searched but nothing was initially found.
The footage captured by a CCTV camera installed in the hall was examined later, which revealed that the theft was committed by the senior officer.
When the officer was approached, he first denied his involvement. However, a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... when the CCTV footage was shown to him, he produced the wallet, the sources stated.
When the Kuwaiti officials were informed of the recovery of his wallet, the delegation asked the authorities to provide them with the identification of the culprit.
The Pak officials initially showed reluctance and assured the guests that legal action would be taken against the person.
However, a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... the sources said, it was on the insistence of the delegates ‐ who were extremely angry over the incident ‐ that Pak officials divulged the individual's identity and shared the CCTV footage.
So far, no complaint has been registered with police.
Sources in the ministry said that an internal inquiry was in progress against the bureaucrat and further action will be taken keeping in view its recommendations.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, when asked about the incident during a press briefing, said simply that most of the present babus bureaucrats had received their "moral training" by previous governments.

One in five college students reported thoughts of suicide in the previous year, according to a study from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, which is associated with Harvard Medical School.
The report, published in the journal Depression and Anxiety (The Prevalence and Predictors of Mental Health Diagnoses and Suicide Among U.S. College Students: Implications for Addressing Disparities in Service Use), includes responses from 67,000 college students from more than 100 American institutions. Racial, sexual and gender minorities are particularly vulnerable to suicidal thoughts, the study found. It relied on data from the annual survey conducted by the American College Health Association.
About one in four students reported being diagnosed or treated for a mental health condition, according to the findings, with one-fifth thinking about suicide and 9 percent of the students surveyed attempting it. But being millennials, failed?

At a workshop organised by Cern, Prof Alessandro Strumia of Pisa University said that "physics was invented and built by men, it's not by invitation".
He said male scientists were being discriminated against because of ideology rather than merit.
He was speaking at a workshop in Geneva on gender and high energy physics.
Prof Strumia has since defended his comments, saying he was only presenting the facts.
Cern, the European nuclear research centre, described Prof Strumia's presentation as "highly offensive".
...He produced a series of graphs which, he claimed, showed that women were hired over men whose research was cited more by other scientists in their publications, which is an indication of higher quality.
He also presented data that he claimed showed that male and female researchers were equally cited at the start of their careers but men scored progressively better as their careers progressed. Affirmative Action - what else do you need to destroy civilization?
