[Aljazeera] Saudi police say the attacker in Jeddah was a Saudi citizen, but it did not give the nationality of the guard, who they say sustained minor injuries.
A Saudi citizen wounded a guard in a knife attack at the French consulate in Jeddah on Thursday.
The assault came the same day as knifings at a church in the French city of Nice left three people dead and several others wounded, in what authorities are treating as the latest attack to rock France.
“The assailant was apprehended by Saudi security forces immediately after the attack. The guard was taken to hospital and his life is not in danger,” the embassy said in a statement.
Police in Mecca province, where Jeddah is situated, said the attacker was a Saudi, but it did not give the nationality of the guard, who they said had sustained minor injuries.
“The French Embassy strongly condemns this attack against a diplomatic outpost, which nothing could justify,” it said in a statement, urging its nationals in Saudi Arabia to exercise “extreme vigilance”.
Security around the Jeddah consulate later appeared to be tightened with Saudi police cars seen patrolling around the complex at regular intervals.
In Riyadh, two police cars were stationed outside the embassy located in the city’s high-security Diplomatic Quarter, as Saudi policemen prevented passers-by from taking photographs.

[NYPOST] French officials have identified the terror suspect in Thursday’s horrific fatal knife attack in Nice as Brahim Aouissaoui, a Tunisian migrant who entered La Belle France illegally.
The 21-year-old had been in the country for less than a month before he allegedly killed two women worshippers and a male sacristan at the city’s Notre Dame Basilica, The Guardian reported.
An image of Aouissaoui in jug after being shot by police at the scene was provided to the photo agency Backgrid by a police source.
He was shot by police while shouting "holy shit! Allahu akbar!" moments after the gruesome attack left three dead, and remains in jug.
Officials told the Guardian that Aouissaoui had no identity papers on him when he was apprehended.
He was carrying a document from the Italian Red Thingy that indicated his name.
Aouissaoui is believed to have arrived without papers on the Italian island of Lampedusa from his native Tunisia on Sept. 20.

[NYPOST] French police foiled another attack Thursday by stopping a man near a church in a suburb of Gay Paree after he told his father he wanted to "do as in Nice," referring to the killing of three people earlier in the day, according to a report.The suspect was arrested near the Saint-Martin’s Church in Sartrouville, were he was believed to be in possession of a knife, Le Gay Pareeien reported.
Alerted by the man’s father about the alleged plot, police rushed to the scene and arrested the man in his vehicle, according to the news outlet.
The suspect allegedly intended to carry out an attack similar to the one that took place in the Mediterranean city, where an assailant armed with a knife killed three people.
The attack in Nice was the third in two months in La Belle France that officials have attributed to Moslem bully boys, including the beheading of a teacher.

[NYPOST] A protester who allegedly assaulted an NYPD cop amid violent mostly peaceful demonstrations earlier this week was arraigned on felony charges and released Thursday without bail.
Claire Haviland, 22, was among 29 protesters who were arrested Tuesday night as rowdy demonstrations erupted in Brooklyn and Manhattan over Monday’s fatal shooting of 27-year-old Walter Wallace Jr by cops in Philadelphia.
At her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, she was hit with a felony charge of assault in the second-degree and a count of obstructing governmental administration in the second-degree.
Haviland, who did not enter a plea during the brief court appearance, was ordered released on her own recognizance after prosecutors asked the judge for supervised release.
When pressed about the charges outside of the courthouse, Haviland denied that she attacked a cop.
"I didn’t assault any police officer. No I did not," Haviland claimed, adding, "I was arrested for protesting. I did not hit a cop...I do have footage. I can’t get it because they have my phone."
The NYPD said Haviland was busted for elbowing and grabbing a cop as he tried to arrest someone for making graffiti on the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building in Lower Manhattan.
According to a criminal complaint, Haviland had bear-hugged a separately charged defendant — Maria Valenzuela Silva — as a cop was attempting to place her under arrest for making graffiti.
Once the inspector from the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group removed Haviland away from Valenzuela Silva, she struck him in the stomach, causing bruising and pain, the complaint says.
Haviland then grabbed the cop’s inner thigh and "forcefully" squeezed him, causing redness and pain, according to the complaint.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 27.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney slammed those who were looting and rioting, saying that the destruction of property will not be allowed.
"The looting that has taken place is distressing, and it is clear that many of these folks are taking advantage of the situation, harming our businesses and communities, and doing a great disservice to those who want to protest the death of Walter Wallace, Jr.," Kenney said. "We cannot allow others to destroy property. I have requested the assistance of the PA National Guard. Their role will be to safeguard property, prevent looting, and provide operational and logistical assistance to @PhillyPolice and other departments."
Kenney authorized a citywide curfew for tonight that went into effect at 9 p.m. and lasts until 6 a.m.
The city said that during the curfew "people may leave their homes only to go to work, seek medical or emergency assistance, or drop off a mail-in ballot."

One of the protest group, hiding behind a full-face mask, violent mostly peacefully pushes one of the Jewish men, and several appear to follow them as the abuse continues as they leave.

“The Iranian regime benefits from a global network of entities facilitating the Iranian petrochemical sector,” US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a press release on Thursday. “The United States remains committed to targeting any revenue source the Iranian regime uses to fund terrorist groups and oppress the Iranian people.”
The entities sanctioned by the US Treasury Department include Iranian firms Morvarid Petrochemical Company and Arya Sasol Polymer Company, Singapore-based Jiaxiang Energy Holding Pte Ltd and Chinese companies Binrin Limited, Elfo Energy Holding Limited, Glory Advanced Limited, Jane Shang Co Limited and Sibshur Limited.
These companies are the latest firms to be sanctioned over their dealings with Triliance, which the US first announced sanctions against in January.
The Justice Department’s forfeiture civil cases involve alleged schemes by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to secretly ship weapons to Yemen and fuel to Venezuela.
Assistant Attorney-General for the National Security Division John Demers said on Thursday that the US government had sold and delivered 1.1 million barrels of Iranian fuel that had been destined for Venezuela, which it had seized earlier this year.
According to the complaint, the fuel originated with firms tied to the IRGC, and shippers took steps to mask ownership. The two vessels carrying the fuel, the Liberia-flagged Euroforce and Singapore-flagged Maersk Progress, had struggled to discharge and shifted course multiple times over the past several weeks.
Michael Sherwin, the acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia, said on Thursday that the unsealing of the complaints was “divorced from politics”.
