The Grand Turk
Sending Fethullah Gulen To Turkey Would Be A National Disgrace
[Hot Air] I know Allahpundit wrote a comprehensive piece about this yesterday, but I’ve been covering the Gulen/Erdogan/Trump story for a couple of years now and couldn’t let thisreport slide by. As was mentioned in the linked article, some reliable reporting indicates that the Trump administration has been quietly looking into the possibility of shipping Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen out of the United States to Turkey in what obviously seems like an effort to placate their tyrant, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. (NBC News)

The White House is looking for ways to remove an enemy of Turkish President Recep Erdogan from the U.S. in order to placate Turkey over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to two senior U.S. officials and two other people briefed on the requests.

Trump administration officials last month asked federal law enforcement agencies to examine legal ways of removing exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen in an attempt to persuade Erdogan to ease pressure on the Saudi government, the four sources said.

The effort includes directives to the Justice Department and FBI that officials reopen Turkey’s case for his extradition, as well as a request to the Homeland Security Department for information about his legal status, the four people said.

Is Gulen one of the good guys or the bad guys? I have no idea, but that’s seriously not the point here. The cleric has been granted permanent resident alien status and now resides in Pennsylvania. As such, he’s "our problem" now and is entitled to a fair shake. And if we either extradite him or (even worse) just pull some sort of black bag operation, kidnap him and ship him to Turkey, he’s going to be murdered. Oh, Erdogan might make a point of putting on a show trial and holding him in prison so they can torture him for a while first, but they’ll kill him in the end.

#1  The govt of Turkey has been sticking it to the US for5 years, esp under Erdogan. Quit indulging them. Turkey is still the sick man in Europe.

California Dem Swalwell Warns Gun Owners Gov't Could NUKE them if they don't comply with gun ban
[Daily Caller] Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell suggested on Friday that the U.S. government could use nuclear weapons on its own citizens if they fight back against firearm confiscation.

Right-wing internet personality Joe Biggs tweeted at Swalwell in response to a May report that Swalwell wants to ban "military-style semiautomatic assault weapons" and prosecute gun owners who did not turn in their newly-banned weapons.

Biggs promised any such legislation would provoke a "war" between gun owners and the government, writing, "You’re outta your f*****g mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov [sic] all the power."

Democrat Stacey Abrams ends bid to be Georgia governor
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Stacey Abrams told supporters in Atlanta that she could not win the Georgia governor race and that the GOP's Brian Kemp would be certified as winner

  • She said her announcement was not a concession because that would acknowledge 'an action as right' and called election 'appalling'

  • Abrams said she would pursue issue in federal court but Kemp issued statement saying Georgia needed to move on

  • Trump congratulated Kemp, but said Abrams has a bright political future

  • Bitter race has been hit by allegations of racial suppression of voters with Kemp now facing start of his term tied up in federal litigation

  • His final margin of victory is expected to be 50.2 per cent, just fractionally above the 50 per cent margin needed to win

#1  ...The important thing - from Abrams' point of view - is that they have sown doubt and uneasiness about the outcome. She now gets to play a second-string Hilary and question everything Kemp does as potentially illegitimate.

The Bishops In Their Labyrinth
[The Federalist] BALTIMORE, Maryland ‐ The one thing the bishops of the American Catholic Church had to do this week at their biennial gathering was to make it clear to a watching world that they take the sexual abuse crisis seriously. They needed to convey that they understand the anger and outrage caused by the alleged sexual misdeeds of Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, and by the abysmal response of many other bishops to similar allegations. They needed to take action‐any action‐to ensure that something like the McCarrick case never happens again.

Somehow, they failed to do this.

Not only did they fail, but they managed to convey nothing so much as confusion and impotence in the face of an unimaginably ham-fisted intervention by none other than Pope Francis himself. No sooner had the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops convened Monday morning in the swanky ballroom of the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront hotel, than conference president Cardinal Daniel DiNardo announced that he’d received a letter from the Holy See the day before. It instructed them to delay consideration of two proposals that would have formed the basis for a substantive response to the sexual abuse crisis: a new code of conduct for bishops and the creation of a lay commission to investigate bishops accused of misconduct.

The letter, which came from a powerful office in the Roman Curia called the Congregation for Bishops, explained that the Vatican wants the American bishops to wait until February, when Pope Francis will convene a synod about the sexual abuse crisis in Rome with the heads of bishops conferences from around the world. (It is a testament to Rome’s disconnection from the reality of events in the United States that the Holy See didn’t think this delay, announced in this way, would cause outrage and scandal among the laity in America.)

#1  What is the likelihood that Pope Gramsci I will actually accomplish anything of real value in ending this?

For a good read on why Ratzinger was likely deposed, and for the machinations subsequent to that, this is a good read:

https://akacatholic.com/money-sex-and-modernism/

At best Gramsci I will do nothing. The worst will be fast-tracking gay marriage for the Catholic Church.

#2  Pope Francis is a Jesuit. The Spanish Jesuits brought Liberation Theology to the Southern Cone of South America. The Argentine Jesuits took the bait. There is a saying in that part of the world that if you could buy an Argentine for what he is worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, you'd be a millionaire. Francis offers the epitome of that truth.

#3  There is an unavoidable wedge here. The gay mafia has spent ages shrieking that homosexuality and pederasty have nothing to do with each other. The Catholic church's journey puts the lie to that.

#6  WRT Ratzinger, one problem you have when trying to clean up an entrenched mess is finding a clean place to start working. If the people you think you can trust lie to you, you can easily wind up purging the good guys and further entrenching the wicked. I've heard suggestions that Benedict got burned that way. If he figured he couldn't accurately figure out who to trust anymore, maybe he thought new blood would help.
