MOGADISHU -- Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency has announced that units from police and intelligence service dismantled three terror cells amid deadly Al Shabaab rampage, Garowe Online reports.
A Spokesman for Ministry of National Security unveiled the destruction of terror networks shortly after Intelligence Boss Abdirahman Mohamed Tuuryare presided over a security meeting on the progress being made over the course of intense operations in Mogadishu in the presence of African Union Special Representative for Somalia Ambassador Maman S. Sidikou.
"The meeting was aimed at presenting the dismantlement of three terror cells during the first phase of joint security sweeps," said Mohamed Yusuf Osman, National Security Ministry spokesman. "Among the three cells were assassination plots by Al Shabaab’s Amniyat, planned drive-by shootings and anchorages meant for preparation of suicide attacks".
The security commanders-level meeting follows weeks of anti-terror sweeps in volatile Mogadishu where beleaguered Al Shabaab militants target government officials and foreigners.
Weapons cache and scores of people suspected of being terrorists were netted in a series of operations.

[AnNahar] More than 150 people, including 38 police, were killed in a dawn raid by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. one of the shifts in the Boko Haram uprising is that non govt militia are doing most of the actual fighting against Boko Haram
among the results of this shift is that Boko Haram is probably losing fighters faster than new ones can be recruited
another result is that somewhat fewer of the casualties are non combatants (although it is still at least 25% or more)

[ABCNEWS.GO] An American woman stabbed to death in an Abu Dhabi shopping mall by an assailant wearing a body-covering abayah was a kindergarten teacher who had been mentoring other teachers.
The victim was identified as Ibolya Ryan, who was from Colorado and was the mother of 11-year-old twins, according to the Footprints Recruiting firm that had placed her in the position.
Ryan, who was originally from Hungary, was a licensed special ed teacher from Colorado. She was hired her as a kindergarten teacher in Abu Dhabi in 2013, Footprints Recruiting CEO Ben Glickman told ABC News.
Glickman said that Ryan loved living the United Arab Emirates and was mentoring other teachers.
Abu Dhabi police released surveillance video showing the suspected attacker wearing the Arabian Gulf?s traditional black abayah or robe, fully covered by a face veil.
The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi issued a warning on Oct. 29 to U.S. citizens about an anonymous web posting that urged attacks against American teachers, but noted no specific threats.
The surveillance cameras' eerie images show the culprit entering the mall on Dec. 1 as well as the scene of the crime. In the video, the weapon shown appears to be a large kitchen knife. The surveillance video ends with onlookers pointing at the suspect and trying to stop the person, who fled to an elevator and left the mall.
"The injured woman was immediately rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where she succumbed to the wounds she sustained in the attack," Abu Dhabi?s police department said in a statement.
According to Col. Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, Ryan was stabbed with "a sharp tool." There was no word on what led to the attack in the women?s restroom.
"The police are investigating to uncover the crime?s causes and motives and to arrest the culprit," the colonel said. Police are taking care of the victim?s 11-year-old twins. "The Community Police will be providing the children with shelter and other needs pending the arrival of their father (the victim?s ex-husband) from abroad. The father will be received by the Community Police, who will also cater to the needs of the victim?s family.?
The colonel expressed his profound regret over the crime. ?The Abu Dhabi Police will spare no effort in order to unveil this heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice,? he added in the statement.
A U.S. Embassy spokesperson said: "We have seen the reports that a U.S. citizen woman was murdered. We offer our condolences to those affected by this terrible tragedy. Out of respect for the privacy of those affected, we have no further comment."
According to the U.S. State Department, in the UAE "violent criminal acts are very rare, and most often occur in the third country national (TCN) communities."

Looking at the video, I have doubts it was a woman.
How do you identify an assailant who is covered from head to foot in black cloth?
[AnNahar] A boom-mobile Wednesday targeted the residence of the Iranian envoy to Yemen, where Tehran is accused of backing Shiite militias, in an attack that left one dead and was claimed by al-Qaeda.
Ambassador Hassan Sayed Nam was away from home when the attack took place in the diplomatic district of Hada in the capital Sanaa, a security official said, adding 17 people were also maimed.
Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... , the main arm of al-Qaeda in Yemen, said its members detonated a car loaded with explosives after parking it next to the ambassador's residence.
The holy warriors said on Twitter they had been able to breach "strict security measures" imposed by police and the Shiite holy warriors known as Huthis before setting off the bomb shortly after 9:00 am (0600 GMT).
The son of a guard at the residence was killed, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by the official Saba news agency.
Two of the 17 maimed were guards and the rest passers-by, officials said.
The blast left a hole in the outer wall of the house, and nearby homes and cars were also damaged.
Yemen's interior ministry launched an investigation into the attack, which government front man Rajih Badi said threatened the country's "top interests."
Shiite Huthi Lions of Islam who have overrun the capital quickly cordoned off the area, which is near the intelligence headquarters in Sanaa, according to residents.
It was not the first attack targeting Iran in Yemen.
On January 18, Iranian diplomat Ali Asghar Assadi was fatally maimed in a drive-by shooting outside the ambassador's residence in what Tehran said was a kidnap attempt.
Al-Qaeda Sunni forces of Evil are still holding embassy staffer Nour-Ahmad Nikbakht who was kidnapped in July last year.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told the Arabic-language Al-Alam television channel that "no Iranian diplomat was maimed" in Wednesday's attack.
Violence has increased in Yemen since Huthi militia, also known as Ansarullah, swept into Sanaa in September.
The Huthis are accused of receiving backing from Shiite-dominated Iran.
Their attempt to advance in regions south of Sanaa has been met by deadly resistance from al-Qaeda turbans who are active in the country, as well as tribes in central Yemen.
President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi has decried "foreign plots" that he says are aimed at blocking progress in the impoverished country.
In September Hadi, a Sunni originally from the south, urged Iran to be "reasonable" in dealing with Yemen.
He said "internal and foreign forces" had allied to disrupt the political transition following a 2011 uprising that ousted veteran president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh ... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it... In September Yemen reportedly freed two Iranians said to be members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards who were accused of having trained the Shiite militia fighters.
Al-Qaeda's leader in Yemen last month accused the Huthis of collaborating with the United States and Iran to try to "destroy" Sunni Moslems.
Last month, al-Qaeda's media branch claimed on Twitter that its fighters set off bombs at an entrance to the U.S. embassy in Sanaa, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.
There has been no confirmation by U.S. authorities of such an attack.
Washington regards the Yemen-based al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula ...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000... , or AQAP, as the most dangerous part of the jihadist network and has been waging a drone war against it for years, with the backing of first Saleh and more recently Hadi.

[AnNahar] A Saudi court on Wednesday sentenced one man to death and imprisoned several others for involvement in an al-Qaeda cell that targeted foreigners, official media said.
The Saudi Press Agency said nine accused were tossed in the clink I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece! for between five and 33 years for activities including "photographing locations and collecting information, in the al-Qaeda terrorist operation that targeted three different locations in Khobar," a community on the Gulf coast.
In May 2004 a series of attacks and a hostage taking in Khobar killed 22 people and maimed 25, many of them foreigners.
The man sentenced to death was found guilty of numerous offenses including transporting suspects and their weapons "so that they could execute the operation to storm the three locations and carry out the terrorist operation," SPA said.
Authorities in 2011 established specialized tribunals to try Saudis and foreigners accused of belonging to al-Qaeda or of involvement in deadly attacks in the kingdom from 2003 to 2006.

Voldya's problems just became a little more acute. Now, he's on the receiving end of a rebellion.

Multiple sources on Twitter are reporting that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s motorcade has been seen pulling into the Kremlin in the middle of the night, around the time the unrest unfolded in Grozny.
Unconfirmed sources are pointing to the presence of Islamist militants in the city.
Grozny has been the epicenter of two bloody wars in the past two decades between Russian forces and Chechen rebels seeking independence from Moscow.
Some Russian media outlets are reporting via Twitter that three policemen have been shot dead in fire fights with militants. According to some tweets, the militants number in the hundreds.

They were arrested in northern Tajikistan and "were planning to leave to participate in the Syrian war on the side of the armed opposition," it said, adding that they were suspected also of preparing to fight with Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. [AnNahar] The bullet-riddled bodies of eight suspected turbans have been found in Pakistain's restive northwest where the military is battling krazed killer groups, officials said on Wednesday.
Troops recovered the eight corpses late Tuesday after they were spotted by local residents in the Khyber tribal district, where Taliban and Lashkar-e-Islam ...a group of Islamic bandidos infesting Khyber Agency. It's headed by a former bus driver.... fighters are based.
Five bodies were recovered from one place and three from another, a senior government official in Khyber told AFP on condition of anonymity.
A second official in Khyber confirmed the recovery.
The army launched a fresh offensive in Khyber district this year against Death Eater group Lashkar-e-Islam, led by warlord Mangal Bagh ...a former bus driver, now head of the Deobandi bandido group Lashkar-e-Islam and the Terror of Khyber Agency... who has joined hands with the homegrown Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).
Neither the military nor rival turbans claimed the killings. But troops have in the past been accused of the extra-judicial killing of captured turbans in the region.
Retired brigadier Mahmood Shah, a former security chief for the tribal areas, told AFP the deaths could also be a result of infighting among Death Eater groups.
Separately, 15 turbans were killed on Wednesday as jets hit their hideouts in North Wazoo tribal district, where the army began a major offensive earlier this year, the military said in a statement.
An intelligence official told AFP the planes bombed a meeting place for forces of Evil in Datta Khel village, and said the dead included six Arabs and seven Uzbeks.
It was not possible to independently verify the casualties.
Pakistain's semi-autonomous areas have long been a hideout for Islamist turbans of all stripes -- including Al-Qaeda and the TTP as well as imported muscle.
Pak jets and artillery began targeting rebel strongholds in North Waziristan in mid-June and ground forces moved in on June 30.
The army says it has killed more than 1,100 turbans and lost more than 100 soldiers since then.
An AFP tally based on regular updates from the military puts the Death Eatercorpse count at more than 1,500, with 125 soldiers killed.
Meanwhile in the southwestern city of Quetta, capital of Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... province, two coppers from an elite unit were killed while patrolling on a cycle of violence by unknown gunnies.
Officials said that three men riding another motorbike chased the coppers on the city's Saryab road and sprayed bullets at them. One policeman was killed at the spot while the other died in a hospital.
Balochistan, Pakistain's largest but least developed and most sparsely populated province, is racked by Islamist Death Eaters, banditry, a separatist revolt and sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shiites.
[AnNahar] The army killed six rebels during a two-day gunbattle in Indian Kashmire which was believed to be an attempt by faceless myrmidons to disrupt elections in the region, a front man said Wednesday.
An Indian soldier was also killed in the fighting which started on Tuesday when faceless myrmidons crossed the heavily fortified border with Pakistain.
Of course they did. That's why it was put there, after all.
"A junior commissioned officer and six infiltrators were killed in the operation, three of them yesterday," army front man S.D. Goswami told AFP.
Four other soldiers received minor injuries during the battle that has now ended in the snowy and mountainous Naugam sector, 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Indian Kashmire's main city of Srinagar, he said.
The army said the battle was fought at an altitude of more than 14,000 feet (4,200 meters) "with (the) likely aim of bandidosholy warriors to disrupt elections" which are ongoing in the region.
"A major infiltration bid foiled by Army," the army also tweeted. "Terrorists equipped with latest winter clothing and accessories."
All of it not actually marked "A gift from your loving ISI".
Another attack on Wednesday injured five coppers and a civilian.
Militants threw a grenade at a paramilitary police patrol in the village of Puhu in Pulwama district, 50 kilometers south of Srinagar, a local police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.
Four paramilitaries, another policeman and a civilian were hurt.
Voting took place on Tuesday in the tense Moslem-majority region for the staggered state election. The Hindu nationalist party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is for the first time campaigning hard to win the poll.
Turnout has so far been high as voters defy calls by hardline separatists to boycott the election over India's rule of the region.
Good for them.
Kashmire has been divided between India and Pakistain since the two countries won independence from Britannia in 1947, but both claim the picturesque territory in full.
About a dozen rebel groups have been fighting Indian forces since 1989 for independence or for a merger of the disputed territory with Pakistain.
The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians dead.

[Ynet] A group of Paleostinians threw stones at IDF troops near Nablus on Wednesday. The soldiers dispersed the rioters using crowd control measures, which included firing rubber bullets towards the lower body of one of the protestors. He was lightly maimed in the legs.
[AnNahar] Israel's navy opened fire on fishing boats off the coast of the Gazoo Strip on Wednesday, seriously wounding a Paleostinian, fishermen and medics in the blockaded territory said.
The military said it had no knowledge of any injuries, saying the navy had had gun sex as a warning not to exceed a permitted fishing limit.
One young man was taken to hospital with "serious" injuries, medics said.
Under the terms of Israel's eight-year blockade of the Paleostinian territory, Gazoo's fishermen have the right to trawl the waters up to six nautical miles off the coast.
But fishermen have said the Israeli navy fires on vessels even before they reach that limit.
Last month, two fishermen were maimed and four went missing after the navy fired on two boats off Gazoo, with the Israeli military saying it had foiled a "smuggling attempt" between Gazoo and Egypt.
Around 4,000 fishermen work in Gazoo, but more than half live below the poverty line.
The waters off Rafah town straddling the Gazoo-Egypt border have become an increasingly important smuggling route since Egyptian security forces destroyed a network of tunnels under the border.
[AnNahar] A Jordanian man was tossed in the calaboose Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! for a year on Wednesday for threatening on Facebook to blow up the Australian embassy in Amman and to kill tourists from the country.
Ali al-Hasanat, 37, had denied any wrongdoing in a November 3 hearing at the state security court that could have been imprisoned him for up to 15 years.
Sources close to the case said he is married to an Australian and had made the threats after an argument with her.
Darwin wins again.
He was accused of using the Internet "to carry out activity that could expose Jordan to acts of aggression".
The charge sheet said that in January Hasanat sent a message on his Facebook page to the embassy in Amman "threatening to blow it up".
A "picture of a bullet" was said to have been attached to the message.

[IsraelTimes] A Jordanian man was given a six-month prison sentence Wednesday in a Jordanian court for plotting to attack Israel.
The man was caught in the summer as he tried to cross into Israel to carry out a suicide kaboom, Israel Radio reported.
The sentence came as Arab media reported this week that Jordanian security forces locked away Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! 20 men on suspicion of forming a military wing and planning to smuggle arms into the West Bank to be used in terror attacks against Israelis.
The men, all members of the Moslem Brüderbund or Jordan?s engineers? guild, were arrested after two of the 20 returned from a solidarity visit to the Gazoo Strip where they received military training, according to Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. The satellite channel reported Sunday that the men attempted to train others in military operations to be carried out against Israelis in the West Bank. They also collected money for the purchase of weapons to be smuggled into the West Bank, or bought in the Paleostinian territory.
It was not clear from the report when the 20 were arrested.
The arrests came after tensions between the Jordanian regime and the Islamist organization peaked last month. The Moslem Brüderbund?s deputy secretary-general Zaki Bani Rsheid was arrested on November 21 over derogatory comments he posted on Facebook against the United Arab Emirates.

6 months? It takes longer to plan a terrorist attack. That's not even enough time to make new terrorist friends and learn new terrorist skills. A symbolic sentence.

An informed source reported that Thailand's government was planning to hold peace talks with 14 insurgent groups starting with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) whose liaison office chief Hassan Taib attended the 2013 talks. This time, the dialogue will be facilitated by Ahmad Zamzamin bin Hashim, the former chief of Malaysia's national intelligence agency.
During Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's visit to Malaysia on Monday, he and Prime Minister Najib Razak discussed issues related to the insurgency in southern Thailand, including the dual-nationality status that is taken advantage of by insurgents. However, the two leaders did not deal with the BRN's five-point demand.
Meanwhile, Sama-ae "Hayisama-ae Thanam" Sa-ah, former chief of the Pattani United Liberation Organisation who has been serving a life sentence since 2011, called on the government to learn from the previous administration's mistake of talking to just one group of rebels. He said success would come if the separatist groups were united - possibly like the Palestine Liberation Organization, to represent and follow the talks.
