[AlAhram] Fresh festivities between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out in late September, persisting despite efforts by La Belle France, Russia and the United States to broker ceasefires
Azerbaijan said Thursday that nearly 2,800 of its soldiers were killed in recent fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh, the first details it has released of military losses in weeks of festivities with Armenian forces.
The defence ministry in Baku said in a statement that "2,783 servicemen of the Azerbaijani armed forces were killed in the patriotic war," adding that 100 more soldiers were missing.
Yerevan had earlier announced that 2,317 Armenian troops died during the conflict, which also claimed the lives of at least 93 Azerbaijani and 50 Armenian civilians.
The ethnic Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan in a war in the early 1990s that left some 30,000 people dead and displaced many Azerbaijanis that used to live there.
Fresh festivities between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out in late September, persisting despite efforts by La Belle France, Russia and the United States to broker ceasefires.
Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Moscow-brokered peace deal on November 9 after Baku's army overwhelmed separatist forces and threatened to advance on Karabakh's main city Stepanakert.
Under the agreement, Armenia lost control of seven districts that it seized around Karabakh during the 1990s war.
Nearly 2,000 Russian peacekeepers have deployed between the two sides and along the Lachin corridor, a 60-kilometre (35-mile) route through the district that connects Stepanakert to Armenia.
Up to 90,000 people -- some 60 percent of the population -- fled the disputed Karabakh region during the fighting.

[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Two suspected bully boy far-left activists in Washington state have been federally charged for a terrorist attack following an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force investigation into dozens of attempts to derail trains.
Ellen Brennan Reiche, 27, and Samantha La Belle Frances Brooks, 23, were arrested over the weekend by federal authorities in Bellingham, Wash. and charged with committing a terrorist attack on a railroad facility.
According to the criminal complaint, Reiche and Brooks were placing wired devices known as "shunts" over BNSF Railway tracks in the middle of the night on Nov. 28. The wires are capable of disrupting a train’s electrical signal and cause it to erroneously brake.
"Depending on the location, the shunt may also interfere with the proper operation of crossing gates at railroad/traffic intersections, causing the gates to allow vehicular traffic across the tracks even when a train is oncoming," wrote the officer assigned in the Seattle Division of the FBI in the affidavit.
The two suspects were caught by a Whatcom County deputy. Reiche was carrying a bag that contained gloves, supplies and tools needed to make the wired devices. The insulated copper wire Reiche was carrying was similar to what was used in 41 other attacks on the railway this year, including an incident on Oct. 11 where a train carrying combustible material was decoupled from the engine after riding over a shunt.
Reiche was parked nearby at the time of the duo’s arrest and their vehicle has a sticker on the back with the text "INDIGENOUS LAND" over a map of the entire United States.

[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Two accused Portland rioters are facing a slew of new felony charges stemming from a Black Lives Matter-Antifa ...the armed wing of the Democratic Party... riot where an officer was nearly set on fire by a thrown incendiary device.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office announced on Wednesday a grand jury has indicted Cyan Waters Bass, 21, and Hannah Karin Lilly, also 21, for their alleged roles in a violent mostly peaceful riot outside the Justice Center on Sept. 23 where Molotov cocktails were thrown. The riot was organized in response to a Kentucky grand jury’s decision to pursue a lesser charge in the police-involved death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville.
Bass, of Portland, is accused of throwing a "destructive device" toward a law enforcement officer. It failed to explode. He was re-arrested on Tuesday and is charged with two counts of felony arson, felony attempted arson, two counts of felony criminal mischief, felony attempted assault, felony unlawful possession of a destructive device, felony riot, felony unlawful use of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of attempted assault of a public safety officer.

[JP] Israelis visiting countries neighboring Iran could be targets for terrorist attacks, the National Security Council warned in a rare public statement on Thursday.
"In light of the threats heard recently from Iranian factors, and in light of past involvement in Iranians in terrorist attacks on various countries, there is a concern Iran will try to act in this way against Israeli destinations," the NSC cautioned.
The notice came almost a week after the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the scientist at the head of Iran's nuclear program and an officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iranian officials have blamed Israel for the killing and have threatened to retaliate.
Among the countries close to Iran that the NSC said could be Iranian targets are Georgia, Azerbaijan, the Kurdistan region of Iraq, as well as the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, with which Israel recently established diplomatic relations. The NSC also listed the Middle East and Africa more broadly as possible zones in which Iran could attack Israelis.
Iran and its proxies have been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks on Israelis and Jews abroad, such as the bombing of the AMIA Jewish Center in Buenos Aires in 1994, which killed 85 people, and the 2012 attacks on Israeli diplomats in Thailand, Georgia and India.

And if there's a trustworthy source of information that would never lie, it's the US intelligence community. Gosh, Iran is such a threat that we have to pre-emptively invade and take them out first? Huh, where have I heard this before? Iraq? Afghanistan? Syria? Every war we've been in since Vietnam?
