"Introducing the Counterterrorism Blog, the first multi-expert blog dedicated solely to counterterrorism issues. To my knowledge, there has been no such blog on the internet. We envision the blog's audience to be the policymakers in Congress and the Executive Branch, as well as serious students elsewhere, who want to visit a single site to access (1) overnight and breaking news, with realtime intel and commentary by operational experts; (2) discussions of long-term trends in counterterrorism; (3) summaries of and discussions about US and international law; and (4) a calendar of upcoming events, hearings, and seminars. I want to highlight those experts who have extensive knowledge of counterterrorism cases, and thus enable them to expand their opportunities to bring their expertise to the attention of policymakers. Please note: I have nothing to do with this blog; just figured some of you here would really go for it. I know I do!

Beware. I haven't checked out this site yet, but Larry Johnson (of the July 10, 2001 NYT op-ed "The Declining Terrorist Threat") is listed as a contributor.

Gave it a quick look this morning, looks to have some impressive creds.
Perhaps Stephen den Beste would be interested in being a contributor... he could write on his own schedule, choosing topics that tweaked his interest and would benefit from his considerable analytical skills. I presume he doesn't have specific spook skills on his resume, but the man can absorb anything, find the pivot points, and present a coherent analysis where there was information chaos with a hign noise to signal ratio before.
Just thinking aloud, Stephen, don't whack me, heh.
Specifically addressing this article, I must admit the first thought came from the cynic in me: Ah, they want to be power brokers. Upon reflection and looking at the site a little more, that was, indeed, too cynical. This just may be an excellent resource for fact-checking some of the looneytoons that we encounter.
A person wrote a letter to the White House complaining about the treatment of a captive taken during the War on Terror. Attached is a copy of a letter they received back:
Dear Concerned Citizen:
Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Our administration takes these matters seriously, and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington. You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like you, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short. In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.
Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday. Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of admonishment. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers. We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter.
Although Ahmed is sociopathic and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his "attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws. Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. He will bite you, given the chance. We understand that you plan to offer counseling and home schooling. Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as pencils or nail clippers. We do not suggest that you ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.
Ahmed will not wish to interact with your wife or daughters (except sexually), since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him, and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that Ahmed will recommend as more appropriate attire. I'm sure they will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the bhurka - over time. Just remind them that it is all part of "respecting his culture and his religious beliefs" - wasn't that how you put it?
Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you, who know so much, keep us informed of the proper way to do our job. You take good care of Ahmed - and remember... we'll be watching.
Good luck!

Since Karl Rove no longer has to use the super-secret vote hacking computer to hack votes in Ohio, he can use the computer to find the appropriate home for wayward Taleban residents of Cuba.
Ahmed is sociopathic and extremely violent
In the good old days of the 1992 LA Riots, the phrase was, "Ya gotta understand the rage..."
Ahmed will not wish to interact with your wife or daughters (except sexually), since he views females as a subhuman form of property.
That's OK most of us view Ahmed as some sort of DNA-regressive precursor of modern man. Remember, he lives in Afghani caves just like the Neanderthals did in Pha-rance 30000 years ago.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
