Cops: Teen understudy put Clorox in lead actress's soda
JUNE 2--A Texas teenager angling for the lead role in a school play is facing charges that she spiked a competing actress's drink with Clorox. Katherine Smith, 18, was arrested this week and hit with a felony rap for tampering with a consumer product (in this case a bottle of Mountain Dew she gave to a 15-year-old rival). According to a Tarrant County arrest warrant, a copy of which you'll find below, Smith was the understudy of the teen victim in a play called "Ha." By dosing the younger actress's Dew, Smith believed that she would take over the play's lead role.
Normally you only see this behavior in Texas cheerleaders, or figure skaters
The warrant notes that Smith "had a lot of family coming in from out of town to see the play and watch her perform." Additionally, Smith's mother believed that her daughter was the play's main character, not an understudy for the February performances at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst. Smith, who used an eye dropper to place bleach in the 20-ounce soda bottle, told a school administrator that she wanted to harm the lead actress "so she could not perform in the play." Smith's plot was thwarted when the girl smelled an unusual odor emanating from the Dew. Pictured above in a Tarrant County Sheriff's Office mug shot, Smith faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the spiking bid.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Planetary scientists have found evidence of a meteor impact much larger and earlier than the one that killed the dinosaurs -- an impact that they believe caused the biggest mass extinction in Earth's history.
The 300-mile-wide crater lies hidden more than a mile beneath the East Antarctic Ice Sheet. And the gravity measurements that reveal its existence suggest that it could date back about 250 million years -- the time of the Permian-Triassic extinction, when almost all animal life on Earth died out.
Its size and location -- in the Wilkes Land region of East Antarctica, south of Australia -- also suggest that it could have begun the breakup of the Gondwana supercontinent by creating the tectonic rift that pushed Australia northward.

ATHENS (Reuters) - Hopes of finding five missing crew of a Turkish-operated cargo ship that sank after colliding with a Greek tanker in the Aegean Sea, were fading on Friday after fruitless night-long rescue efforts, officials said.
The Morocco-bound, Panamanian registered "Han" cargo ship, which was operated by a Turkish ship owner and had a crew of 13, collided on Thursday with a Greek tanker off the island of Hydra, killing one Turkish sailor. Authorities said it appeared that the collision was an accident. The tanker safely plucked seven Turkish crew from the sea as well as the body of the Turkish sailor. These guys keep running into each other

Last week when a Greek and Turkish warplanes collided the response of the Greeks was to ban flights by the US Navy. Therefore, will this collision result in the banning of US Navy ships anywhere near Greece?
Radio listeners in Edinburgh will be able to hear George Galloway's views as the maverick Respect MP launches his new chat show. He will be at the South Gyle studios of Talk 107 from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday for phone-ins punctuated by his own distinct opinions.
Earlier this year Mr Galloway was hired by TalkSport, national sister station of Talk 107, to host a weekly chat show, and the Edinburgh station is now taking that programme. Colin Paterson, programme director for Talk 107, said it had been the Edinburgh station's idea to put the cigar-smoking politician on air to take listeners' calls. "We've no doubt George will prove extremely popular with Edinburgh listeners", Mr Paterson said.
Mr Galloway, a regular newspaper columnist, achieved television fame as a contestant on Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother.
Congressional candidate and Holocaust denigrator Pete McCloskey, running against Rep. Richard Pombo of Tracy in Tuesday's GOP primary, is returning a $2,100 campaign donation he received from a man tied to al-Qaeda.
The money was from M. Yaqub Mirza, a Pakistan native living in Virginia, who has been investigated by the Justice Department for allegedly helping to finance al-Qaeda and Islamic Jihad. Mirza's offices were raided by federal authorities in March 2002.
McCloskey, a moderate former House member who has raised questions about Pombo's ethics, said he's never met Mirza but would return the money. "This is America, so you are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but I just don't want the appearance of impropriety," McCloskey told the Stockton Record in a story published Thursday. "I'll send it back."
"'Because otherwise my campaign is dead."
Mirza did not return calls from the Record and could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday by The Associated Press.
McCloskey has courted support from the Muslim community, and also has criticized Israeli foreign policy and praised former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Some of his past comments have been criticized by Pombo's campaign as hostile to Jews, criticism that McCloskey has disputed.
He's also a Holocaust denigrator and denier.

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is wounded and vulnerable, and yet the two Democrats vying to unseat him are tearing each other apart in the very nightmare scenario party leaders had feared. State Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly are spending millions on attack ads heading into Tuesday's primary, trading accusations of being corrupt, indulging in dirty politics and wanting to raise taxes. "The script couldn't have been written any better by the Schwarzenegger campaign," said GOP consultant Kevin Spillane. "Whichever Democrat wins is going to be a dirty campaigner and a tax increaser."
I used to read Spillane's novels all the time.
Westly, a former eBay executive who has poured nearly $35 million of his own money into his campaign, went negative first, despite a promise to run a positive campaign. He delved into Angelides' past as a developer, accusing him of paving over wetlands, building on flood plains and contributing to urban sprawl. Angelides, also a millionaire but on a lesser scale, attacked the controller for contributions he took from a Chicago businessman who was later indicted, and accused Westly of steering state business to the man's company.
They sound like typical Democrats to me...
"Whoever emerges on top June 6 is going to be as wounded as a candidate could be," said Mervin Field, a veteran California pollster. Schwarzenegger has come off statesmanlike in comparison, a reversal from last year, when the movie star's pugnacious, borrowed-from-Hollywood language frequently got him in trouble.
Mostly with Democrat hacktivists, I think. And he did add "girly men" to the language. That's a contribution.
The infighting is exactly what California's Democrats feared might happen.

DOVER, Del. - Joseph R. "Beau" Biden III, son of Delaware's senior U.S. senator, kicked off his campaign for state attorney general Thursday. Biden pledged not only to prosecute criminals, but also to prevent crimes such as identity theft and Internet stalking of children by sexual predators. "I truly believe that this office has the potential to greatly improve the lives and well-being of the people of the state of Delaware," said Biden, 37, who served as a federal prosecutor in Philadelphia for five years.
Biden, a Democrat, will face Republican Ferris Wharton, 53, in the November election. Republicans are banking on Wharton's experience of more than 25 years as a prosecutor to offset Biden's name recognition. Coinciding with the launch of Biden's campaign, the Delaware GOP unveiled a new Web site, http://www.Beausnotready.com.

...thus assuring an unbroken chain of disservice and misrepresentation to the people of Delaware for the next 30 years.....
NEW YORK -- State Comptroller Alan Hevesi publicly apologized Thursday for a "beyond dumb" remark about a fellow Democrat putting "a bullet between the president's eyes."
"I dunno whut I wuz thinkin'..."
Hevesi called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement. "I apologize to the president of the United States" and to the fellow state politician, Sen. Charles Schumer, Hevesi said. "I am not a person of violence. I am apologizing as abjectly as I can. There is no excuse for it. It was beyond dumb."
At the news conference, a contrite Hevesi repeated what he recalled saying in the speech. The comptroller said he was merely trying to convey that Schumer has strength and courage to stand up to the president on major policy issues. According to a videotape of the speech, Hevesi said: "The man who, how do I phrase this diplomatically, who will put a bullet between the president's eyes if he could get away with it. The toughest senator, the best representative. A great, great member of the Congress of the United States."
Hevesi said he hadn't been in touch with the White House but he hoped his apology reached President Bush. Hevesi, a longtime professor of government and politics at Queens College before becoming comptroller, also referred to his comments as "remarkably stupid" and "incredibly moronic."
And possibly 'career ending', but only time will tell.
I doubt it. It's an attention span thing. You see... Hey! Anna Nicole Smith is pregnant!

This just make me sick. And these folks held respect for the office of the President of the United States when Clinton was in office?
I'm thinkin'... this guy and I have extremely different values. And yes, he got the attention he wants.
Other than votes, how can we stop people like him? He prolly is getting more attention, 'cause of his apology. (He needs to stand face to face with our President and make that apology.)
Not enough for me. He knew exactly what he was saying when he said it......

FREEREPUBLIC.com and other websites also report a MEMRI article where it is indicated that the Radics are getting support from "NON-MUSLIM STATES/NATIONS" against the US.

Forgot to say that iff true, Hevesi's alleged comments once again shows that RINO DemoLefties are not afraid to induce or directly resort to assassination or other violence agianst Prez Bush.
THEY WANT AMERICA UNDER "JUSTIFIED" OWG, ANTI-AMER AMERICAN SOCIALSIM, AND SOCIALIST-COMMIE WORLD ORDER AT ANY PRICE, where "justified" means NOT having to explain, ask, or prove to the American people the merits. THEY WANT AMERIKKKA TO ATTACK AS WELL AS FOR AMERICA TO BE ATTACKED - you know, "DAMN THE TORPEDOS" = "CANNOT CONFIRM OR DENY" PATRIOTISM.

Did this apology come before or after he was lead away in handcuffs by the Secret Service folks?
A person shouldn't be able to utter such heinous porposals then apologize and that would be the end of it. NOPE! Ain't buying it.
#7
It'd be tough to make a case that this violated laws against threatening the President, especially since he was projecting referring to Schumer. But it would still be fun to try.
#9
What a douche bag. I never really cared for Clinton but I didn't want to shoot the man or wish violence on him. OTOH, if he had caught an excruciatingly painful vinereal disease........

Here all along I thought the left was big on "Speaking Truth to Power"[tm]. Isn't it all about how you really feel not about facts? So why the apology? Oh, I forgot, they, like their Western Hating Islamists Brothers[tm], believe that it is also OK to lie to the infidel (i.e. unbelievers in the one true faith). Never mind.
#13
Yeah. Real sorry I said it. But I'm not sorry at all that I thought it. Or that I still do.

Here's his apology in the Post..
"I made a remarkably stupid, incredibly moronic, totally offensive statement in attempting to compliment Chuck Schumer and I am abjectly apologetic for the level of stupidity which that comment reflected and the offense it may have given." "What I intended to say is that Chuck Schumer is incredibly smart, courageous, willing even to stand up to the president of the United States on issues of public policy," Hevesi went on.
"What came out of my mouth is that Chuck Schumer is smart and brave and capable of putting a bullet between the president's eyes."
Sounds to me that he's apologizing to Schumer, not Bush.
And from Chucky...
"The bottom line is this, Comptroller Hevesi was trying to make a point," Schumer said.
"He went way too far. What he said was wrong and inappropriate. He has apologized to me and to President Bush and I believe that should end this matter."

OTOH, if he had caught an excruciatingly painful vinereal disease........
Like phylloxera?
What's worse is that this toad made his remark at a college commencement. Come on, knotheads, just give 'em a short "look to the future" speech and let everyone go to dinner.
NEW DELHI - A woman who said she had fallen in love with a snake got married to the reptile in a ceremony in Indias eastern Orissa state, it was reported on Friday. The wedding took place on Wednesday near the state capital, Bhubaneshwar, with nearly 2,000 people celebrating the event, believing that the union would bring good fortune to the village. Thirty-year-old Bimbala Das was married to the creature by Hindu priests in an hour-long ceremony, the PTI news agency reported.
Since the snake, which lives in an ant-hill, was not present, a brass replica of the serpent was kept by the brides side. Though snakes cannot speak nor understand, we communicate in a peculiar way. Whenever I put milk near the ant hill where the cobra lives, it (the snake) always comes out to drink, Das was quoted by the news agency as saying. She said the cobra never harmed her.
Villagers were thrilled when Das confessed her love for the snake. Some even offered to arrange a grand feast. Dass mother and relatives were happy with her choice as well and have constructed a hut near the ant-hill where the woman now plans to live.
"Thank God she's out of here"
Marriages between humans and other living beings are not uncommon in India. A tribal girl was married to a dog near Bhubaneshwar recently.
I can't wait for our lovely female readers to comment

Well, gee whiz, Steve - we'd hate to disappoint you. :-D
Me, I like men (once they're house-trained, they make great pets ;-p), but I have a friend who was married to a venomous snake.
Of course, hers had 2 legs. Same deadly bite, though his consisted of constant put-downs - death by a thousand bites instead of just one.
Notice the "was married"? Thank goodness.
I wish the Indian nutcase lass all the luck in the world. From what I've heard over the years, it won't be the strangest, or worst, marriage on earth.

What we have here, little sister, is a magnificent specimen of pure Alabama Blacksnake.
A massive ocean vortex discovered off the West Australian coast is acting as a "death trap" by sucking in huge amounts of fish larvae, and it could affect the surrounding climate.
A team of scientists from The University of Western Australia Murdoch University, CSIRO and three American, French and Spanish research institutions announced the discovery of the vortex after a month-long research voyage in the ocean just west of Rottnest Island.
Led by Dr Anya Waite, a biological oceanographer from UWA, the 10-member team found the vortex - 200km in diameter and 1,000m deep - spinning at speeds of up to 5kph just off the Rottnest Canyon.
Dr Waite said the vortex, shaped like a giant child's spinning top, was created by current movement down the coast and is one of the largest ever found off WA.
Visible from space, the vortex is acting as a "death trap" by sucking in fish larvae from closer to the shore, she said.
"It's actually acting as a predator, it's actually taking the fish larvae which need to stick around their natural habitat on the coast, and dragging them off to sea," Dr Waite said.
She said the climate above the vortex was noticeably different.
"It feels like you're in the tropics," she said.
"It's warm, soft, moist air, with flying fish, it's a very different environment."
It could also potentially affect climate further afield, she said.
"The vortex is moving a large volume of a very warm current out back into cooler waters, so essentially it's taking that heat and moving it away from the coast.
"So essentially that really changes the heat budget of our regional ocean and it's the ocean that determines climate."
Dr Waite said the vortex was unlikely to pose a danger to people sailing or diving in the area but the change was definitely noticeable.
"We were in a 70-metre boat and you could immediately feel the shift in the ship's tract, so you can certainly tell that there's something unusual going on out there," she said.

I'm sure this started in 2000 because Bush wouldn't sign the Kyoto treaty or force the Senators to sign it or something. Whatever can we do?? When Clinton was President, the oceans behaved. We didn't have a Katrina and stuff

How convenient that this should show up when Republicans are getting low polling numbers. Conspiracy???? I think so.. Be afraid, very afraid of the Rove Machine.....
Somebody awhile back (Charles Berlitz - is that the Bermuda Triangle guy?) did a book that located about a dozen "deadly vortices" scattered around in the worlds' oceans. One was, of course, located in the Bermuda Triangle, another was in the Dragon's Sea off of Japan, another, yup, you guessed it, near Australia, etc., etc. The author speculated that they were all located equidistant from one another and all somehow related, possibly via blackholes or underwater superpyramids or some other such tall tale...
I tend towards the R'Lyeh theory myself. I welcome our tentacled amoeboid master...
CHICAGO Dozens of undocumented immigrants demanded their jobs back Thursday after being fired during an immigration raid here in Chicago. Twenty-four workers were let go from IFCO Systems of North America after customs agents raided the plant during a sweep last April. IFCO is a container company located off Damen and the Stevenson Expressway. It's accused of harboring and transporting illegal workers.
The workers rallied outside the federal immigration court on East Monroe Street. Inside, they begged a judge not to deport them. "Last night was a very scary time for these families. They didn't know. The kids didn't go to school because they wanted to be here because they didn't know if their parents were gonna come home," said Ema Lozano with Center Without Borders.
The workers will have to wait several months to find out if they'll get their jobs back. The judge granted a continuance until Oct. 12.

while in line at the DMV yesterday, very little english was spoken. I heard one ask another if they were getting legal ID, and the other jokingly answered why start now being legal and laughed.
What will these guys be doing here in America until October if they aren't working? It's hard for me to hear about illegals getting caught, but nothing is done. Instead they are filling up our legal system, and probably getting benefits.

I think I might be able to see where the problem is in the system. But I'm sure the legislation currently up for debate will just fix this all right up...
