Afghanistan
Afghan Taliban threaten death to all talking peace
[Pak Daily Times] Scribbled notes from Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar have surfaced in mosques all over Afghanistan's ethnic Pashtun heartland, threatening death to anyone who takes up a government offer to negotiate for peace, according to a longtime Taliban member.

Trying to quash rumors of a break in their ranks, the Taliban also have vehemently denied reports, including one that representatives of the terrorist group were involved in negotiations with the Afghan government.

The leadership could be worried that commanders might strike separate deals that would threaten to undermine the insurgency and cripple the morale of their rank-and-file fighters. President Hamid Karzai has made reconciliation a top priority and recently formed a 70 member High Peace Council to find a political solution to the insurgency. At the same time, the US-led coalition has ramped up its military campaign in an effort to pound Taliban commanders to the negotiating table.

There are no signs that either strategy is having much effect on the senior Taliban leadership. A veteran Taliban member who recently visited the powerful shura - or council -- in Quetta
That's the one the Paks can't find, that they say doesn't exist...
and controlled by Mullah Omar said there was no talk of negotiation among those who control the insurgency.

"None of the big Taliban is talking," the Taliban member said on condition of anonymity.

#5  Get small, cheap and tamper proof nuke power units to market - and past US and Euro regulators - and bury one in concrete for every 20k people or so. Prototypes promise 10 yrs or so of electricity production without any fuel change. Not only will this reduce oil revenues but if they are sold into the Muslim world it will bring down governments and maybe bring about cultural change as a middle class finds they have an investment in education, work and savings.

Suicide bomber kills nine in Afghanistan
[Pak Daily Times] A teenage boomer blew himself up in a crowded bazaar in northwest Afghanistan on Friday, killing at least nine people and wounding 30 others, police said.

The attack targeted the head of the Faryab provincial council, Mullah Rahmatullah Turkistani, police chief Khalil Andarabi said. Turkistani, who was maimed in the blast, regularly visits the bazaar in Khwaja Sabz Post district on Fridays to hear citizens' concerns and dine at a local restaurant, Andarabi said.

"Witnesses told police that they saw a teenage boy walking in the bazaar," Andarabi said. "He had a book in his hands and sometimes he was reading. He was probably waiting for his target to come."

When Turkistani arrived, the teenager walked toward him and detonated his cache of explosives, killing an Afghan policeman and eight civilians and wounding 30 more, Andarabi said.

3 soldiers killed in Mogadishu clash
Three pro-government soldiers have been killed and four others injured in south Mogadishu in another day of heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual light or sporadic fighting...
in which anti-government forces engaged African Union (AU) and Somali government troops.

The three soldiers were killed in a hit-and-run attack by gunnies in the Dharkenley district of south Mogadishu on Friday, but it is not clear if the attackers were members of Hizbul Islam or al-Shabaab, the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu reported.

The anti-government forces also attacked AU bases in the Somali capital and the positions of Somali government troops on Friday, while the AU and Somali government troops used missiles to attack the fighters' bases in south Mogadishu.

In addition, al-Shaboobs have threatened to attack US bases in Africa.

Al-Shabaab have also warned that they plan to carry out attacks in Uganda because they believe the Ugandan troops in the AU peacekeeping force have killed innocent civilians through indiscriminate small arms fire and artillery attacks in Mogadishu.

On Friday evening, Somali Prime Minster Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo condemned the fighting between rival clans in the Mudug and Galgaduud regions and called for an immediate ceasefire.

The Somali government has dispatched a team of elders to the area to attempt to resolve the dispute and they are expected to arrive on Saturday, the Somali prime minster said.

The corpse count in the inter-clan fighting has hit 45 and about 70 people have been injured, with both sides using light and heavy arms, eyewitnesses told the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu by telephone.

On Friday, senior al-Shabaab member Fuad Mohamed Khalaf issued a statement condemning the inter-clan fighting and saying that al-Shabaab would capture the warlords who instigated the clan fighting and would deal with them according to the al-Shabaab interpretation of sharia (Islamic law).

3 Russian pilots kidnapped in Darfur
[Pak Daily Times] Three Russian helicopter pilots were kidnapped in the South Darfur capital Nyala, the South Darfur governor Abdel Hamid Kasha said on Friday. The UN World Food Programme confirmed three pilots contracted to them had been kidnapped in Nyala on Thursday but could not give further details.

"Yesterday there were three Russian helicopter pilots kidnapped by unknown men and the security people are chasing them," Kasha told Rooters from Nyala, the centre of a spate of recent kidnaps for ransom. Kasha said he believed the kidnappers were the same as those who kidnapped Russian airmen in Nyala in August.

The pilots were taken from a minibus in the centre of the town on Thursday about two hours before sundown, he said.

Russia directed rare criticism at ally Sudan for being unable to stop the kidnapping of foreigners for money in the war-torn Darfur region. The United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society estimates some 300,000 people have died since mostly non-Arab Darfur rebels took up arms in early 2003 demanding more of a share of wealth and power from central government.

Pirates 'free ship for $9.5mn ransom'
[Iran Press TV] Somali pirates claim they have abandoned a South Korean oil supertanker after receiving a 9.5-million-dollar ransom for the vessel.

The release comes nearly seven months after the pirates hijacked the Marshall Islands-flagged Samho Dream as it was passing through the Indian Ocean on its way to the United States from Iraq.

A pirate who identified himself as Abdi Wasuge told Press TV that the bandidos had received about USD 10 million in exchange for the vessel and its crew.

The supertanker was carrying USD 170 million worth of crude oil with a crew of five South Koreans and 19 Filipinos onboard.

While Saturday's alleged ransom payoff is one of the largest so far, many shipping and insurance companies are believed to have paid up to USD 12 million in ransom for hijacked ships. This is hard to verify as the companies or governments involved seldom acknowledge the ransom deals.

Earlier, the Chinese transport ministry said a rescue operation successfully helped free a Singapore-flagged fat merchantman with 19 Chinese crew hijacked off the coast of Somalia.

"The 19 Chinese crew and the ship Golden Blessing were rescued safely at 1:03 a.m. Beijing time (1703 GMT Friday)," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

The ministry statement did not elaborate on how the petroleum and chemical tanker had been rescued. MV Golden Blessing was pirated in late June while travelling to India from Soddy Arabia.

Sea bandidos from the lawless Horn of Africa nation have turned piracy into a lucrative business, with ransom demands seldom less than two million dollars.

Despite the presence of international anti-piracy forces, the number of attacks has continued to surge since 2007. Some analysts say the lack of a judicial system to try "suspected pirates" jugged in failed hijacking attempts has contributed to the surge in piracy.

On Friday, a court in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa released 17 suspected Somali pirates jugged in joint operation between the US and South Korean navies in May 2009, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The court said the prosecution failed to offer solid evidence. The move comes a month after Nairobi decided not to renew a piracy deal with Western countries to try Somali pirates.

Kenya acquits 17 suspected pirates
[Iran Press TV] A court in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa has released 17 suspected Somali pirates captured by the naval forces in the dangerous waters.

The men were jugged on May 31, 2009 in the Gulf of Aden following a failed attack on an Egyptian tanker, MV Amira. The vessel was attacked in the waters off Yemen.

The court says the US and South Korean navies that jugged the alleged pirates could not provide solid evidence for a conviction, a Press TV correspondent reported.

"The prosecution has not proved its case against the accused persons beyond reasonable doubt as required by law," Magistrate Michael Kizito said on Friday.

"Consequently, I find that the accused persons are not guilty of the offence which they were charged with and acquit them," he added.

The landmark decision to free the suspects is the first such ruling in similar cases since the East African country signed a piracy deal with Western powers to try suspected pirates from neighboring Somalia.
Yeah, looks like that's gonna work out real well...
Nairobi did not renew the agreement after its expiration in September, making Seychelles the sole costal African country ready to try suspects handed over by foreign navies.

This is while more than a hundred suspected Somali pirates are currently awaiting trial in Kenyan jails.

Pirates from lawless Somalia have terrorized the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, preying on trade ships passing through the waters.

The European Union says the sea bandidos are currently holding some 19 vessel and at least 400 crewmembers hostage.

First US Piracy Trial in over a Century
NORFOLK - Five Somali men accused of firing assault rifles at a Navy ship off the coast of Africa are set to appear in federal court here this week. The charge might be difficult to prove because the suspected pirates did not board the vessel, which had a crew of 100 highly trained sailors. In a similar but separate case involving a group of alleged pirates who are suspected of firing at the USS Ashland on April 10, a federal judge has thrown out the piracy charge, ruling there was not enough evidence to prove the charge.

Sahel: 1st joint patrols Mali/ Mauritania in northern Mali
[Ennahar] Malian and Mauritanian military have, for the first time, set up joint patrols in the desert of northern Mali to strengthen the fight against Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) very active in this region.

A few hundred Malian military vehicles have joined the Mauritanian troops who arrived last week, about 80 kilometers north of Timbuktu (northern Mali).

"You see, we are brothers, our goal is the same: to ensure the security of our people, not leave the ground to terrorists, preventing the organization from any attack," told AFP a Mauritanian military, taking the arm of a Malian military in a friendly gesture.

"Today we are in the Malian desert. Tomorrow, together we can go, we will go, in the Mauritanian desert. Together we can fight against insecurity. The problems of Mali are problems of Mauritania, and those of Mauritania are those of Mali," said an officer of the Malian side.

These joint patrols, the first ever held between the two armies will continue "the time it takes," said a source close to the two armies.

Some hundreds of military vehicles, including armored cars, were traveling in this area, found Saturday an AFP journalist.

The Mauritanian army has conducted several operations in northern Mali, in July and September, to prevent attacks by AQIM in its territory.

Terrorist flees Mali camp, surrenders in Mauritania
[Magharebia] A young Mauritanian terrorist surrendered to authorities in Timbedra, close to the Mali border, AFP reported on Thursday (November 4th). Izid Bih Ould Mohamed Mahmoud, 30, joined al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in 2008, and received training in weapons and explosives at a Northern Mali camp. According to security sources, he said he had chosen to "reject a culture of violence in which he saw no future or noble goal".

The recent Nouakchott anti-terror policy forum endorsed clemency measures for bully boyz who lay down arms and denounce violence.

Africa Subsaharan
UN: Mass rapes on Angola-DRC border
[Al Jazeera] More than 650 women and girls have been raped during mass expulsions from Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the past two months, according to a body of the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society.

Many of the victims said they were locked up and tortured for several weeks while they were raped repeatedly by security forces.

The report by the UN Children's Fund (Unicef) said 6,621 people arrived in Congo's western Kasai province, in two waves during October. It is not clear on which side of the border the rapes took place.

"The conditions of expulsion are still terrible. In many cases, sexual violence is reported and even cases of torture," the report said, citing 657 instances of sexual violence based on evidence collated by welcome committees on both sides of the border.

Separately, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), citing humanitarian workers, said the true figure was close to 100.

"We are not in a position to confirm in which country they (the rapes) happened, but we do call on the authorities of the two countries to investigate these accusations to find out whether the rapes took place and where," Maurizio Giuliano, a front man of OCHA, said.

'No complaints'
Lambert Mende, the DRC information minister, said authorities had not received any reports of rape.

"We're not informed. We don't know, these figures are not confirmed," he said. "There are expulsions, perhaps there are rapes but we have received no complaints and we don't want to launch a dossier."

The report comes in the wake of an international outcry triggered by the rape of at least 303 civilians in eastern Congo between July 30 and August 3 by rebels in the town of Luvungi.

Angola and Congo often indulge in tit-for-tat expulsions and the figure touched 211,000 in 2009.

Angola helped the Congolese government fight off Rwandan- and Ugandan-backed rebels during fighting between 1998 and 2003, which drew in several neighbouring countries.

However,
The infamous However...
deteriorating relations between the two countries followed disputes over border demarcation, offshore oil ownership and closer Congolese relations with Rwanda and Uganda, its neighbours to the east.

Arabia
U.S. deploying Predators in Yemen
For the first time in years, the US has deployed Predator drones to search for al-Qaeda in Yemen, but has yet to fire any missles from the aircraft due to a lack of good intelligence.

Officials said the Predators have been in Yemeni airspace for months in search of al-Qaeda operatives. After a number of attacks involving cruise missiles earlier this year, local al-Qaeda leaders "went to ground," according to a senior administration official.

Asked whether the drones would be free to fire, another administration official said, "The only thing that does fall into the 'no' category right now is boots on the ground."

UAE to review bomb blast claim in UPS jet crash
[Al Arabiya] The United Arab Emirates aviation authority is investigating a claim by al-Qaeda that it was behind the September crash of a UPS plane in Dubai, but has found no link so far, an official said on Saturday.

"The investigations which were carried out and the details collected from the site of the UPS cargo plane crash have not shown an kaboom taking place on board the aircraft," the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said.

"This does not mean that the claim of an kaboom taking place will not be taken seriously; the authority will investigate this claim," said a statement carried by state news agency WAM.

On Friday, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed it had planted a bomb on a jumbo jet belonging to US delivery giant UPS near Dubai airport on September 3, and that the authorities had kept the cause of the crash quiet.

"We downed the plane belonging to the American UPS company, but because the media of the enemy did not attribute responsibility for this work to us we kept quiet about the operation until the time came that we hit again," it said.

On October 28, the group said, it placed bombs on flights operated by UPS and FedEx. The bombs which were traced to Yemen, were intercepted in Dubai and in England before they could explode.

Al-Qaeda denies Responsibility for Wahdah Stadium Attack
[Yemen Post] Al Qaeda denied claims that it was responsible for the bombing of a Wahda Sports Club in the province of Aden two weeks ago, which resulted in the death of three people and several civilians injured.

A statement issued by al-Qaeda said: "We in Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula deny responsibility for this process, and declare that we have no relation to it from close or far."

The statement emphasized that they only target "criminals from the Americans and the crusaders and their followers from the security forces and intelligence officers," and accused the media for promoting the crusader alliance propaganda to distort the reputation of the Mujahideen."

Prosecution: Anwar Incited Hesham to kill French Engineer after two months of email corresponding
[Yemen Post] The prosecution said that Hesham Mohammed Asim kept in touch with Anwar and was convinced to kill foreigners after months of corresponding with Anwar via e-mail. According to the judge, Anwar incited him to kill foreigners, which in the end resulted in the killing of a French engineer on the 6th of October at OMV Oil Company where he was working as a guard.

The court charged Hesham Mohamed Asim, Anwar Al-Awlaki and his cousin Osman Al-Awlaki, with "forming an armed gang to commit criminal acts targeting foreign and security officers.

In addition, the prosecution indirectly accused Anwar Awlaqi of being an Al-Qaeda member; therefore, opening doors for trialing him as an Al-Qaeda suspect in later hearings.

This is the first time that the Yemeni government hints that Anwar is an Al Qaeda operative.

Osman Awlaki, Anwar's cousin, was also charged of incitement to kill foreigners.

When questioned by Judge Mohsen Alwan, the first defendant Hesham Mohammed Asim denied all charges against him and claimed he was tortured during interrogation. The judge adjourned the trial for one week.

After the incident, the French Foreign Ministry called French families living in Yemen to leave the country due to the deteriorating security situation.

Bangladesh
Nizami the man behind Pabna mass murders
[Bangla Daily Star] Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, now nabbed, criminal masterminded the massacres in Santhia upazila and elsewhere in the district in 1971, a war crimes probe finds.

"In our primary investigation, we found that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami
... a Pakistani catspaw remaining active in Bangla politix, loosely affiliated with the Pak religious party of the same name and closely affiliated with most of the terror organizations in Bangla. A member of the BNP's four party governing coalition....
chief Motiur Rahman Nizami was the criminal mastermind behind the massacres," said Md Abdur Razzak of the International Crimes Tribunal probe team.

The 11-member team led by Sayed Rejaur Rahman, prosecutor of the tribunal, wrapped up their three-day probe in Pabna yesterday.

The investigators visited killing spots in Baushgari of Demra union, Dhulauri, Karomja of Santhia yesterday and interviewed a number of war crimes witnesses.

Santhia is the birthplace and election constituency of Nizami.

Earlier on Thursday and Friday, the probe team visited places in Pabna sadar and Ishwardi upazila where Pakistain army and their collaborators had set up camps and torture centres during the Liberation War.

"In the investigation we learnt that in 1971 some eight to nine hundred innocent people were killed in Demra in a day and another 21 in Dhulauri," Razzak said.

Talking to the probe team, Md Shajahan, a Liberation War veteran, recalled the Dhulauri carnage.

"Following Nizami's directives, local collaborator Sattar razakar led the Mighty Pak Army to Dhulauri on November 27, 1971. They killed 21 people including nine freedom fighters. The collaborators had attacked me but I was saved by the grace of the Almighty. Still I am carrying the wound in my body," said the freedom fighter.

Another war hero, Jahurul Haque of Santhia claimed, "Nizami was the organiser of the collaborators. He used to make plans and direct his associates. Most of the war criminals are relatives and followers of Nizami."

The collaborators, widely called razakars, led by Nizami committed mass killings in Baushgari, locals said. Asad, one of the razakars, led the occupation troops to the remote village where the Hindus had taken shelter.

In Baushgari some 350 people were killed on that night. The entire Demra was turned into a graveyard as eight to nine hundred people were martyred, locals told the team.

However,
The infamous However...
some people were chanting slogans in favour of Nizami while the witnesses were talking to the probe team. But nothing untoward had happened, investigators said.

Earlier in a press briefing on Friday, the probe team said Nizami, top-tyre Jamaat leader Abdus Subhan, also the former politician from Pabna; and Moulana Ishaque, former minister of Pakistain government, were the leaders of collaborators.

Subhan and Ishaque are still on the lam. Asked about their arrest, prosecutor Abdur Rob Howladar said the tribunal investigators would decide when to arrest the duo.

Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, known as "Tony Tormenta" or Tony the Storm, was rubbed out in Matamoros, Tamaulipas state, during a security operation in the northeastern border city. Cardenas Guillen is believed to be a major narco for the Gulf Cartel.

Three other gunnies, two marines and a local newspaper news hound also died in the operation, which took place on Friday.

US authorities had indicted Cardenas Guillen on drug trafficking charges and offered a $5m reward for information leading to his arrest. Mexican authorities had also offered a $2m reward.

Cardenas Guillen's brother, Osiel, led the Gulf Cartel until 2003 when he was jugged by Mexican authorities. Osiel was extradited to the US in 2007 and sentenced to 25 years in prison by a Texas court in February this year.

Franc Contreras, Al Jizz's correspondent in the capital Mexico City, said that the death of Guillen was a major blow to the Gulf Cartel, but would probably not end violence in the region as the group was still fighting other cartels there.

Elsewhere in the country, police in Mexico City said that Harold "The Rabbit" Poveda, suspected of being the main cocaine supplier for Beltran Leyva drug cartel, had been jugged.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
family members have identified five bodies found in a mass grave near the Pacific coast town of Acapulco. According to the families, the five belonged to a group of tourists who were kidnapped in late September while travelling to town.

Police discovered the mass grave containing a total of 18 bodies on Tuesday after an anonymous tip.

Contreras said that the state prosecutor said that the bodies had been buried for a month.

"Family members were able to positively identify these men and point out that at least five of them were in fact tourists. There was concern that maybe the men belonged to drug trafficking groups, but the families are saying no."

More than 28,000 people have been killed in escalating drugs related violence since Felipe Calderon, the president, began a crackdown on drugs trafficking in December 2006.

Landmine blast injures Syrian shepherd
(KUNA) -- A Syrian woman living in the Golan placid provincial capital Al-Qunaitra suffered serious injuries in a blast of a landmine left behind by the Israelis forces, the Syrian Television said on Saturday.

The blast occurred while she was returning home, along with her mother, after herding the family cows at a spot north of the town.

Only a small number of Syrian citizens has remained in the town, extensively damaged before Israel pulled out of it in 1974.

Up to 607 Syrians have been killed, injured or maimed in such incidents in the region.
