Afghanistan
Two kidnapped S. Koreans rescued in Afghanistan
(KUNA) -- Two South Korean construction workers were rescued after being briefly kidnapped by person or persons unknown in Afghanistan earlier this week, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The two Koreans, both supervisors at a road construction site in the northern Afghan province of Samangan, were kidnapped by four gunnies on Dec. 13 while traveling to their workplace in a vehicle along with one local driver and two bodyguards, the report said.

According to South Korea's public broadcaster KBS, the driver managed to escape and report to police. The police and the military rescued all the hostages after an exchange of gunfire, said KBS. The local media cited the Afghan police as identifying the assailants as the Taliban and saying that a Taliban capo was killed in the shootout.

Civilians killed in Afghan blast
[Al Jazeera] A roadside kaboom has killed 14 civilians and injured four others in western Afghanistan.

A spokesperson for the governor of Herat province said the civilians died when their minibus was hit by the bomb in Kesh-e Kohna district of Herat province near the border with Turkmenistan on Thursday.

"The military forces have reached the site and they say that 14 people have been killed and 4 maimed," the front man said by telephone from Herat.

The victims may have been part of an extended family heading for a pre-engagement party, he said.

The casualties on Thursday are part of a wider pattern of escalating violence in a formerly peaceful part of the country.

The latest blast came days after a similar homemade bomb in the south of the country killed 15 people, and six Afghan soldiers died in separate NATO air strikes that were meant to target Taliban fighters.

On Wednesday, the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) warned of worsening violence in Afghanistan in 2011 and said reaching Afghans who needed help was harder now than it had been at any time in the past 30 years.

Family: Gaza man killed by US bombing in Afghanistan
[Ma'an] A Paleostinian family in Gazoo has received news that their son, Mahmoud Abu Rideh, died a few days ago in a US bombing in Afghanistan.

The man's family, from Bani Sheila - a town east of Khan Younis - heard from friend's of their son that Mahmoud was with a group of 'mujahideen' before the Arclight airstrike.

Abu Rideh had moved to the UK in 1995 and received a residence permit in November 1998.
One of those multiculturals who add such excitement to modern British life... and apparently Afghan life as well.
Some of his family members are British nationals.

After the 9/11 attacks, Abu Rideh was nabbed along with 17 others and he was banned from meeting his family.
It sounds like they thought they had grounds to suspect him of something. Ah, for the days after 9/11 when it wasn't yet necessary to set political correctness before national security.
Ma'an reported at the time that Abu Rideh was nabbed.
Presumably he has been since set free.
His conditions were so severe that he apparently attempted to kill himself three times.
And now he has succeeded.

Good catch, Goober Thash1487. Nice to know we're getting more than cannon fodder. I s'pose his family can take comfort that he achieved moderate success as some measure it, although he did not die while attacking the infidel. No children are mentioned, so one assumes he died wifeless, son-less, and pointless.

Clashes kill 11 in Somali capital
[Iran Press TV] At least 11 people have died in fresh festivities between al-Shaboobs and government-backed troops in Somalia's war-torn capital, Mogadishu, witnesses say. Fierce shootout and shelling rocked Mogadishu's northern districts of Hodan and Bondhere, where fighters from al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam attacked positions of pro-government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers, a Press TV correspondent said.

Witnesses said incessant shelling destroyed residential areas,
*sigh* There's always something to be knocked down, it seems.
causing civilian casualties.

"On Wednesday evening, I have seen the dead bodies of at least 11 civilians lying on the street of Boondhere," an eyewitness told our correspondent.

The village was turned into a battle field with the fighting raging on for more than seven hours, witnesses said.

The seaside city has been the scene of heavy festivities between rival forces, which killed more than 30 people last week.

Somalia has been marred by years of civil unrest since 1991 when warlords toppled former warlord Mohammad Siad Barre.

#2  I'm surprised there's still anything to be knocked down.

It's probably not news to you and many others here, Pappy, but after six months of trips to Egypt, Mr. Wife finally told me of the people living on the median strips of the main streets in Cairo. The huts were of unmortered cinder blocks, no doubt stolen from some building site or other. Periodically as his cab driver took him between the factory and his hotel, Mr. Wife would notice on of the huts had fallen in... and eventually he realized that by the time he saw that, a new hut was rising... with a new family waiting to move in. Like ants, humans build shelters, no matter how poor the building material.

#3  I'm sorry, that came out wrong. I meant you probably know about the people living on the street medians, not about Mr. Wife's travels. I never joined him there because that would have led to a transfer to Saudi Arabia. He never took me to India because he didn't think I'd be able to handle real poverty.

Mauritania: Militants Against Slavery Arrested
Hat tip Gateway Pundit and The Religion of Peace. Slavery. Chattel slavery. In 2010. I guess the British Navy has another job to do. As does ours.
(ANSAmed) - PARIS, DECEMBER 15 - Nine militants from an organisation that fights slavery in Mauritania were beaten and arrested on Monday after demonstrating to denounce the fact that two young girls aged 9 and 13 were being held in slavery in Nouakchott.

The Foundation for Human and Humanitarian Rights (FONADH) has demanded the immediate release of the nine militants, including the director of the organisation President of the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement (IRA), Biram Ould Dah Ould Abeid.

For its part, the police have stated that the militants attacked the security forces, injuring six officers, and that they then sacked the police station, shouting racist and abusive phrases. Photos of the policemen injured "by the throwing of stones and dangerous objects used by the demonstrators" were released to the media.

FONADH has launched an appeal to the authorities for the case of the two girls held as slaves to be treated with the necessary speed. Ould Dah is used to accusing the Muslim scholars of being responsible for the continuing slavery in the country, a practice that was abolished in 1981 that persists in several parts of Mauritania.

Last month the UN special envoy on forms of modern slavery stated that ''there are still very serious cases'' in Mauritania. (ANSAmed).

"Senegalese talibe (children studying the Koran) invade Mauretania"
It took me 40 minutes to read this using a dictionary. The gist of this article is that the children sent to "talibe" schools, spend almost all of their time begging for food. They are frequently beaten if they don't bring enough food or money. Evenings they recite the Koran in Arabic. As word on their living conditions gets out in Senegal, public opinion has turned against the practices and against the marabouts that run these talibe schools. Therefore, the marabouts are moving operations into Mauretania.

Americans Attacked; Not Al-Qaeda Linked
[Yemen Post] Four Americans were targeted in an attack last night. Senior Interior Ministry source denied that the bomb that blew up in Hadda area of the capital was linked to Al-Qaeda.
True. Yemenis seem fully capable of anti-kufr nonsense without the help of outsiders.
Media outlets reported last night that a Jordanian citizen planted an bomb in the back of a pickup vehicle of American embassy employees.
So are outsiders, it appears.
The vehicle had light damages while no one was injured.
Geez. He's a regular Faisal the Fizzle Bomber, he is.
According to pro-governemnt news source, the Jordanian planted the explosive in the American citizen's vehicle; however, eyewitnesses deny that happening.

Yemen Post confirms that a Jordanian was jugged with possession of a gun according to the same source.

"There are no witnesses that the Jordanian planted the explosives in the U.S. citizen's vehicle. Until now, we have no proof that he has links with any terrorist group, Interior Ministry source said."
"He didn't do it. And even if he did, it wasn't him."
"If the suspect wanted to kill Americans he would have put the explosives inside the vehicle directly, and not in the back of the pickup."
Unless he's dumb as a post. Not all jihadis are two standard deviations north of the mean.
Yemen Post contacted the office of the head of the Counter Terror Unit in Yemen, Yahya Mohammed Saleh, and they had no information of the attack.

The office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Defense and Security Affairs, Dr. Rashad Alemi, also claim that they had not heard of the attack.
"Not only was it not him, but it didn't even happen."

Bangladesh
Bangladesh arrests opposition MP accused of war crimes
Bangladesh police jugged an opposition politician Thursday on murder charges, a day after he was named a suspect in an unrelated war crimes investigation into the country's 1971 liberation struggle.

Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a key figure in the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is accused of war crimes during the nine-month fight for independence which left three million dead according to official estimates.

He was jugged at his residence in the capital, Dhaka, in connection with a murder case in June this year, deputy commissioner of police Monirul Islam said, without giving further details.

"He has not been jugged in connection with any war crimes related cases," Islam told AFP.

In Bangladesh, it is routine for police to arrest suspects on one charge and then add multiple cases against them while they are in jug.

In July, the leaders of the country's main Islamic party, Jamaat-i-Islami, were jugged for "offending public religious sentiment" and then subsequently charged with war crimes.

The war crimes tribunal on Wednesday said they had found concrete evidence of Chowdhury committing war crimes such as genocide, rape, arson and looting during the war, and charges on these cases are likely to follow.

The tribunal was set up in March to try people suspected of atrocities during the campaign for independence from Pakistain led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh's founding father.

The BNP and Jamaat have dismissed the tribunal as a political show trial.

Janajuddha man killed in Kushtia 'shootout'
[Bangla Daily Star] An operative of Janajuddha faction of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML)
There are Purbo's left in B-desh? The RAB hasn't gotten them all?
It's like those mushroom mites, the ones whose females are born pregnant. Steven Jay Gould wrote about them.
was killed in a 'shootout' with law enforcers in Doulatpur upazila of Kushtia early Thursday.
We have no idea where that is ...
But we have faith it's on the map.
The dead, Mosharraf Hossain alias Bomaru Musa, 35, son of Hobis Uddin of Angdia village in the upazila, was accused in twelve systems eight cases including two for killing, police said.
The story seems out of order. Doesn't that part come at the end?
The Rab have expanded so rapidly on the back of early successes that the newcomers aren't being properly trained in report writing. They need to put a call out for two or three dozen English majors to aid in the work.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Doulatpur Police Station, said a joint team of Rapid Action Battalion-12 and police, on secret information,
That would be Mahmoud the Weasel's grand-nephew, Belal. Mahmoud retired to his newly-purchased country estate on the proceeds last year.
raided Chatarpara field at about 1:30am
A little early for the RAB, unless they were doing a double ...
where Musa along with his accomplices were holding a clandestine meeting.
Thank goodness each new Rab unit is issued its own dictionary. Clandestine feels so much more secret than secret.
Sensing their presence,
My spider sense! It's tingling again! To arms! Aux barricades!
the gang opened aimless fire on our heroes the team compelling them to retaliate
Of course the RAB retaliated, they weren't out there for their health ...
that triggered a 'shootout'.
Yep, meets all the criteria for a 'shootout', especially the deader ...
At one stage, the outlaws
Not miscreants?
Definitely not the country band
managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...

Later, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Musa lying on the ground,
right where they left him ...
reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Two light guns, four bombs, five rounds of bullets and two sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
Does a pair of garden shears count as one sharp weapon or two ...
That question qualifies as philosophy, it does. Like one hand clapping trees in the forest.

Britain
UK court grants Assange bail
[Al Jazeera] An English court has upheld the decision to grant WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange bail after authorities challenged a previous decision.

Duncan Ouseley, High Court justice, rejected the argument by prosecutors on Thursday that the 39-year-old Australian should stay in prison because there was a risk he would flee the country.

"The court does not approach this case on the basis that this is a runaway from justice who seeks to avoid interrogation and prosecution," he said.

Mark Stephens, Assange's lawyer, said he expected his client to be released later on Thursday or "on a worst case analysis tomorrow".

"But we really do expect him to be released today. Everybody is working very hard for that," he said outside court.

Bail conditions
Stephens said they had raised the $316,000 bail money, put forward by a host of well-known figures including Jemima Khan, Bianca Jagger, film-maker Ken Loach and journalist John Pilger.

But the judge ruled that another two sureties worth about $31,500 each were required, saying that some of the people pledging money did not know Assange very well.

"The problem has been the extra money that the judge has asked for from five separate people,"Nazanine Moshiri, Al Jizz's correspondent at the court, said.

"Some of these people are not in London right now, so they are trying to get them to the court to sign the release," she said.

Once freed he will be required to stay at the large country estate of Vaughan Smith, founder of a London media club, in what Assange's lawyer termed "mansion arrest".

Under the bail conditions set on Thursday, the website founder will be subject to an electronic tag and a curfew, move within certain boundaries and report to the police everyday.

Assange's mother, Christine, welcomed the judge's decision, saying she believed that the court would do the right thing.

"I had faith that the British justice system would do the right thing and that the judge would uphold the magistrate's decision. And that faith has been confirmed today," she said outside court.

The High Court hearing took place two days after a magistrate's court granted him release on the conditions he would wear an electronic tag, and obey a strict curfew.

Assange has been held in Wandsworth prison in south London since December 7, when he was jugged on a European arrest warrant for questioning over alleged sex crimes in Sweden.

Car Bomb Explodes at a Coppe Shoppe in Monterrey
Google Translate. For a map, click here.
A car bomb exploded in a municipality northeast of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Friday afternoon wounding two civilians and causing damage, according to Mexican news reports.

The bomb detonated at police headquarters of Zuazua, Nuevo Leon at about 1300 hrs. Zuazua is about 15 kilometers northeast of Monterry and is a farming community.

No one was reported killed in the explosion. Two unidentified civilians were injured. The explosion also damaged two police patrol vehicles and a motorcycle.

The explosion also knocked out electrical power in the area briefly.

Officials did not call the attack narcoterrorism, but reports make it clear the attack was intended to intimidate security forces.

The scene is currently under guard by Grupo de Reaccion Inmediata and Policía Rural forces.

Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas experienced two car bombs late last August one against a police headquarters and one against a Televisa television studio building. No one was reported hurt in those blasts.

US airport attack plotter sentenced
[Iran Press TV] A Guyanese national has been sentenced to life in prison for allegedly criminal masterminding an attempt to blow up the fuel system at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

Former Guyanamese politician Abdul Kadir, 58, was handed a life term on Wednesday for involvement in a 2007 plot to explode fuel tanks and the fuel pipeline under the airport, according to a statement from the US Eastern District Court of New York, CNN reported.

US District Judge Dora Irizarry said Kadir has been captured in surveillance video recordings while discussing plans with Russell Defreitas -- a US citizen born in Guyana.

She said the footage proved Abdul Kadir played a key role in the plot.

Defreitas, also convicted and jugged for co-plotting the attack, still awaits his sentencing.

During a four-week trial back in August, a federal jury had found Kadir guilty of conspiring to explode the fuel tanks and pipelines at the international New York airport.

Prosecutors alleged that Kadir and Defreitas planned to cause a massive kaboom by igniting the fuel tanks.

Defreitas allegedly provided information on the facilities and layout matters while Kadir, an engineer, contributed in technical aspects.

The two were jugged on charges of multiple counts of conspiracy back in 2007. Kadir has denied the charges.
Breitbart's article on the same story has a few additional details, including that Mr. Kadir was captured en route to Iran via Venezuela. But I s'pose it isn't fair to expect the Iran PressTV journalist to mention such things.

Top US spy in Pakistan flees after cover blown in lawsuit
(NY Times) — The top American spy in Pakistan left the country on Thursday amid threats to his life after his name was revealed in a lawsuit over alleged American drone attacks, United States intelligence officials said Friday.

The C.I.A. station chief in Islamabad is perhaps the agency’s most important undercover assignment overseas because that person oversees its secret war in Pakistan using armed drones that target Al Qaeda and the Taliban. The suit that named the C.I.A. station chief, who was working undercover and whose name is classified, was filed over attacks that killed at least two Pakistanis.

US drone strikes kill 28 alleged militants in Pakistan
The intelligence official took off his shoes, and still needed the reporters fingers in order to count that high.
At least 28 suspected militants were killed Friday and several more injured in three separate strikes by US pilotless aircraft in Pakistan's Tirah and Lakai valleys of Khyber district.

'In the first strike, a US drone fired two missiles into a compound in Sipah village of Tirah and killed seven people,' said an intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity. 'Seven more people were wounded,' he added.

'Around one hour later another drone attack took place in Nargosa area of Lakai valley. Fifteen more militants were killed and several injured,' the security official said.

'Our informants are saying that both compounds belonged to the militant group of Lashkar-e-Islam,' he said. 'Two important commanders, Ali Marjan and one who was known only by his alias Fauji, are said to be among those killed.'
Anybody know if these two really were important?
Likely enough they were local number three's ...
A third attack hit a compound in Sipah village, apparently targetting Lashkar-e-Islam head Mangal Bagh. 'Mangal Bagh was not there at the time of the attack,' said a second intelligence official who also sought anonymity, but 'his six fighters were killed,' the official said.

It was the fourth drone attack in 24 hours. On Thursday a US drone fired a missile into a vehicle in the same district and killed all seven people in it.
Hope we have enough Hellfires, and that replacements will not be held hostage in the 2000 page rejected spending bill.

Grenade attack wounds 25 in Peshawar
[Dawn] A grenade attack maimed 25 people, including women and kiddies, at a Shiite parade Thursday on the eve of the holiest day of Ashura in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar, officials said.

The attack took place in one of the main squares in the northwestern city, which runs into Pakistain's lawless tribal belt, branded by Washington the global headquarters of Al-Qaeda and a stronghold of Taliban networks.

"Twenty-five injured were brought to our hospital. There are women and kiddies among them. One child is in a serious condition," said Abdul Hamid Afridi, head of the city's Lady Reading Hospital.

"It was a grenade attack," Peshawar administration chief Mohammad Siraj told AFP, adding that police had failed to arrest the culprit.

Police initially said 11 people were maimed as the procession ended.

A jacket wallah went kaboom!" at a Shiite religious procession in Chabahar in neighbouring Iran on Wednesday, killing 33 people and wounding 83 in an attack claimed by Sunni rebel group Jundallah.

Iran said the attack originated from a Jundallah (Army of God) base in Pakistain, where more than 4,000 people have died in outbreaks of sectarian violence between the groups since the late 1980s.

Ashura is one of the high points of the Shiite calendar, when large crowds of worshippers gather in Shiite areas of Pakistain.

Last year Pakistain's main Taliban faction grabbed credit for a suicide kaboom that killed 43 people at a Shiite parade in Bloody Karachi on Ashura, in one of the deadliest single sectarian-linked attacks in the country.

US missiles kill 7 in Pakistan
Pak intelligence officials say a US missile strike has killed seven faceless myrmidons in a tribal region that has rarely seen such attacks.

The officials say the missiles hit a vehicle in the Spin Drand area of Khyber on Thursday. The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media.

More than 100 missile strikes have hit Pakistain's border region this year. Nearly all hit targets in North Wazoo, a tribal area under the control of Taliban and Al Qaeda.

The US rarely acknowledges the covert CIA-run program. Pakistain officially protests the drone-fired missile strikes, but is believed to secretly aid them.

Explosions jolt Iraqi capital
[Iran Press TV] Five loud blasts have rocked the Iraqi capital of Storied Baghdad, but the number of likely casualties is yet to be known, a Press TV has reported.

The incidents took place in the Iraqi capital on Thursday.

Thursday coincides with Ashura, which marks the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PTUI!).

The country maintains a tight security around the religious ceremonies, commemorating the martyrdom.

The holy city of Karbala in central Iraq -- which houses the Shia Imam's shrine -- is currently swarmed with two million pilgrims, 238,000 of them from abroad, Karbala provincial council chief Mohammed al-Mussawi was quoted by AFP as saying.

Around 28,000 soldiers and law enforcement agents are on duty in the city. Some 7,000 reserves could join the force if deemed necessary.

Also on Thursday, several bombing attacks reportedly claimed the lives of two Iraqi pilgrims, injuring six others in the town of Dujail to the north of the capital Storied Baghdad, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.

Iraq arrests 80 suspected militants
[Iran Press TV] Iraqi security forces have rounded up as many as 80 suspected jihad boys, who intended to cause "chaos" in the holy city of Karbala in central Iraq.

Senior Iraqi military official, General Othman al-Ghanimi, said the detainees had terrorist links, AFP reported on Thursday.

Karbala hosts the shrine of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PTUI!), whose martyrdom is commemorated in the first ten days of the holy month of Muharram.

The city is currently swarmed with two million pilgrims, 238,000 of them from abroad, said Karbala provincial council chief Mohammed al-Mussawi.

"We were able to destroy 14 terrorist cells and arrest 73 people, including 37 wanted persons," he said.

"We seized lots of weapons, IEDs [improvised-bombs], explosives belts and equipment.

"If they had been able to mount their attacks during the pilgrimage, it would have created chaos. Karbala is the main target for bully boyz during Ashura," he said.

In March 2004, Iraq witnessed the deadliest attacks to take place yet on Ashura in the country with near-simultaneous bombings in Karbala and at a Shia mosque in Storied Baghdad in which more than 170 people were killed.

Kadhim Hussein, a 40-year-old pilgrim from the southern port city of Basra, said, "Everything right now inside Karbala is good."

"We will continue our commemorations of [Imam] Hussein's martyrdom despite all the threats from enemies of Shia Mohammedans."

The forces' control over the security situation reflects well on their readiness to take fully over from the United States forces. The American military is set to leave the country next year, ending more than seven years of US-led occupation.

Over one million Iraqis have been killed during the same period, according to the Caliphornia-based investigative organization Project Censored.

US Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
... an example of the kind of top-notch Washington intellect to be found in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body ...
, however, said last month that the American forces had to stay in Iraq beyond the deadline mentioned in the deal, claiming that the Iraqi security forces were not yet ready to fully operate on their own.

"That is why, even at this difficult economic time, we are asking Congress to fulfill our budget requests to support America's continued engagement," he wrote in an article in The New York Times.

U.S. Delta base rocketed in Wassit
WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Five Katyusha rockets hit the U.S. Delta base in western Kut on Thursday, according to a security source.

“Unknown gunmen fired five Katyusha rockets toward the U.S. Delta base in western Kut,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The U.S. army asserted that no rocket landed inside the base, pointing out that the rockets may landed outside the base.

The base is the only location for the U.S. forces after all bases had been handed over to the Iraqi authorities as a step to implement the U.S. forces withdrawal agreement from the Iraqi cities. The Delta base will be handed over to Iraq in 2011.

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

Driving foreign journalists away
Over the next month, it seems likely the Treasury will take away foreign journalists’ tax exemptions.

...There is already a steady drip of foreign networks and newspapers moving their operations away from here, mostly for cost reasons. Israel should be doing what it can to reverse that. Instead, it may end up driving foreign journalists to Ramallah, Amman or further away.

Israel downs suspicious object flying near Dead Sea
[Ma'an] Israeli aircraft shot down an unidentified object Thursday evening near the Dead Sea, security sources said.

A military spokeswoman told Ma'an that the army was investigating its origin. It might have been a balloon, she added.

An Israeli security official said the apparently unmanned balloon flew over the Dimona nuclear reactor. "It definitely flew over Dimona, although we are still trying to determine what that entailed and the military is now handling the matter," the official told Rooters.

The airspace surrounding the secret nuclear site is considered a restricted zone.

#2  Hamas and friends could be trying the same trick that the Japanese did with balloons over the N Pacific in WW2, carrying incendiaries and trying to set forest fires.

In this case it could be explosives, or it could be anything in an attempt to tie up IDF resources. Swarms of balloons have to be investigated.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanon army dismantles Israeli spy devices
[Ma'an] The Lebanese army said it dismantled two "espionage devices" on Wednesday that Israel had placed on top of two of the country's mountains, acting on an alert from Hezbullies.

"Earlier today, military intelligence discovered the two devices and dismantled them," an army front man told AFP, without specifying the nature of the equipment.

The spying devices were found on Mount Sannine, northeast of Beirut, and the Barouk Mountain, east of the capital, he added.

An army statement said the device on Mount Sannine consisted of visual emission and reception parts. The second device was "more complicated," it added, without elaborating.

Voice of Leb radio, however, reported that an kaboom heard in Leb late Wednesday was an Israel Air Force operation aimed at destroying an espionage device it had installed off the coast of the city of Sidon, Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported.

The report comes a day after the Lebanese Army said it had uncovered two Israeli spy installations in mountainous areas near Beirut. The installations included photographic equipment as well as laser and broadcast equipment.

It said the military had been alerted to their existence by Leb's powerful Hezbullies, which has been cooperating closely with army intelligence since the launch of a national crackdown on alleged Israeli spy rings in 2009.

The Shiite Islamic myrmidon Hezbullies has accused its arch-enemy Israel of having infiltrated the country's telecom sector.

On December 3, the Israeli army detonated two of its spy devices in southern Leb, slightly injuring two passers-by, after Hezbullies uncovered their location near the coastal city of Tyre.

The movement hailed the discovery as "another achievement" of its counter-espionage teams.

Wednesday's incident came amid high tension in Leb over impending indictments by a UN-backed probe into the 2005 liquidation of ex-premier Rafiq Hariri.

The Special Tribunal for Leb is allegedly set to implicate high-ranking members of Hezbullies in the killing, a move the party has repeatedly warned against.

Hezbullies, which fought a devastating one-month war with Israel in 2006, has accused the STL, which has based its indictments on extensive telecommunications evidence, of being part of a US-Israeli plot.

'Some Pak officials aiding terrorists'
[Iran Press TV] Iran's deputy interior minister says some local Pak officials have issued travel documents for hard boyz involved in Wednesday's deadly bombing attack.

"Terrorists get their travel documents from some local Pak officials," Ali Abdollahi told IRNA, stressing that Tehran believed these officials were "connected" to the terrorists.

At least 33 people, including women and kiddies, were killed and 83 others were maimed in an attack, which occurred at the Imam Hussein mosque in Chabahar on Wednesday.

People were commemorating the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam.

The terrorist group Jundallah has grabbed credit for the attack.

Jundallah, a Pakistain-based terrorist group, has carried out numerous bombings, liquidation attempts, and terrorist attacks in Iran.

Its leader Abdolmalek Rigi was jugged by Iranian intelligence forces in February 2010 and executed in June for 79 counts of crimes, including armed robbery, bombing operations and armed attacks on police and civilians.

"The confessions of Abdolmalek Rigi confirm that the base of these hard boyz is in Pakistain," the Iranian official said.

Abdollahi said hard boyz are believed to receive training in Pakistain, criticizing Islamabad for ignoring Iran's repeated calls to adopt proper security measure.

Chabahar Governor Ali Bateni announced on Wednesday that Iran's security and civil forces had jugged one of the perpetrators of the attack.

The United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society, the United States, Britain, La Belle France, Jordan and Leb's Hezbullies movement have condemned the terrorist attacks.

'Terrorist seized on Iran-Pakistan border'
[Iran Press TV] An Iranian official confirms reports that security forces have nabbed a third person behind Wednesday's deadly terrorist attack in the Iranian southeastern city of Chabahar.

Security forces "ensnared the third perpetuator of the terrorist attack in Chabahar city on the border with Pakistain," Deputy Governor of Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province Jalal Sayah said on Thursday.

The detainee was planning another attack on Iranian mourners on the ninth day of Muharram, also known as Tasua, he added.

On Wednesday, an official with the Iranian Intelligence Ministry said three terrorists, who entered Iran from one of the neighboring countries, planned to carry out blind attacks in the southern and eastern parts of the country.

The unnamed source told IRIBNews that one of bully boyz was killed in a clash with Intelligence Ministry forces and another was jugged when attempting to flee the country. The third terrorist was able to carry out his attack.

On Wednesday, a terrorist attack took place at the Imam Hussein mosque in Chabahar in Sistan-Baluchestan Province where people were commemorating the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam.

The attack killed and injured scores of people including women and kiddies.

"The number of martyrs in the Chabahar terrorist attack has reached 34, and six of the injured are at death's door," ISNA quoted Sayah as saying.

He added that more suspects have been jugged, stressing that investigations were underway.

Chabahar Governor Ali Bateni announced on Wednesday that Iran's security and civil forces jugged one of the perpetrators of the attack.

The terrorist group Jundallah has grabbed credit for the attack.

Its leader Abdolmalek Rigi was jugged by Iranian intelligence forces in February 2010 and executed in June for 79 counts of crimes, including armed robbery, bombing operations and armed attacks on police and civilians.

In his confessions, Rigi confirmed that the terror group received training in Pakistain and that "certain Pak officials issued travel documents for the terrorists," Iran's deputy interior minister said earlier on Thursday.
