Kenya Claims Somali Rebels Receive Third Weapons Airdrop
[An Nahar] Kenya said Wednesday that Somali beturbanned fascisti had received a third planeload of armaments, as its forces prepare to push forward against the Al-Qaeda-linked bully boyz in the war-torn nation.

Kenyan soldiers and tanks pushed into Shebab-controlled southern Somalia some two weeks ago to fight the gunnies and curtail their ability to launch cross-border attacks.

"We've had a positive confirmation that there was another landing of another aircraft with weapons," army front man Emmanuel Chirchir said. The reports could not be independently verified.

Two aircraft landed Tuesday delivering ammunition and weapons to the jihad boy Shebab, Chirchir said, adding he would not comment on where the weapons were coming from.

"We are concentrating on how to disarm the enemy," he said.

Eritrea has been accused of supplying arms by air and sea to the Shebab rebels, but Asmara has repeatedly denied all claims.

"These claims are pure fabrications ... Eritrea has not sent any arms to Somalia," the Eritrean foreign ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
Since it wasn't your people, you won't mind if the Kenyans kill them all...
"Eritrea's sole interest in Somalia is to see peace and stability return."

Kenya has urged residents in 10 southern Somali towns to avoid Shebab camps as it prepared to attack the areas.

"Our troops will not be cowed at all by this armament, we are prepared and our mission will go ahead as planned," Chirchir said.

"We have all it takes and what is required in the battlefield, we will hit the targets as planned."

Chirchir said that Shebab fighters had attacked a Kenyan convoy inside southern Somalia late Tuesday but denied claims the rebels had caused heavy Kenyan casualties and destroyed military trucks.

"Our troops were headed to Tabto from Liboi and they confronted four armed al-Shebab bully boyz near the border area," Chirchir said.

"There was an exchange of fire and the gunnies ran towards a forest, it was dark and our commander on the ground advised against venturing there because it could be a trap."

#1  Saying "airdrop" I think of crates falling from the sky with parachutes. But the text of the article makes it sound more like a conventional landing & delivery. How unromantic.

Shelling Resumes in Taiz; Five Killed
[Yemen Post] In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the government troops resumed their shelling campaign in Taiz, one of the flashpoint of the revolution, while in the same time using its ground troops and armed thugs to assaults districts under the control of the independent army of the revolution.

Government forces killed at least five people and eight others injured.

The government attacks have been nonstop for hours. The corpse count is expected to rise as a number of the injured are at death's door.

Hundreds of dissident soldiers, officers, and former coppers decided several weeks ago to form an armed unit able to defend the revolution while retaining their independence from any political or military affiliations.

The men dubbed the People Protector by Taiz's residents are now defending the city with all their might.

Only this morning the PPs managed to force back a group of thugs which were occupying the Education Department Offices, forcing them to retreat to the basement as they slowly clear the building.

In Gamal Street where armored vehicles made their entrance, leaving residents to dread what was coming next, the PPs there too honored their oath, destroying one the regime's vehicle under the cheers of the delirious crowd.

In "Liberty Square" where most of the protesters have been camping out for the past 9 months, mortar shells started raining on unarmed citizens, creating wild panic.

Other residents reported that the government troops were using anti-aircraft guns directly at people and buildings.

As scores of injured citizens are streaming through the hospital doors, the medical staff already reported the death of 3 people this morning alone.

The PPs have abandoned all hope to make the regime see sense and they are now taking matters in their own hands by getting out the heavy artillery. Residents told the Yemen Post that they were now preparing their RPGs to shoot back at the regime forces.

"From now on we are fighting back", said a young soldier of the revolution.

Bomb, gun attacks kill six in southern Thailand
Suspected Muslim terrorists insurgents killed six people in a bomb and gun attack in southern Thailand on Wednesday. A roadside bomb struck a pick-up truck carrying a group of seven villagers in Narathiwat province and then unknown gunmen opened fire.

"A team of soldiers went to the area to rescue them but militants triggered a second explosion," wounding two troops, a police officer in Ra Ngae district said.

Roadside bomb severely injures two soldiers

Two soldiers on Thursday were severely injured in a roadside bombing in Narathiwat's Si Sakhon district.

Investigators said a squad was on a patrol pickup truck to escort teachers to schools. The team was heading to Si Sakhon Temple for a further meeting with a commander. En route to the temple, an unidentified number of attackers detonated a bomb hidden at the roadside. The explosion wounded the two soldiers. Police presumed that the bombing was carried out by a group of suspected terrorists insurgents.

In a related development, a joint team of police and military late Wednesday arrested a suspect in the bombing of a clothing shop on Sunday. Usmadee Jemao, 25, was apprehended a house in Sungai Padi district. The security team seized a motorcycle, two white T-shirts, two Malaysian banknotes and clothing which Mr Usamadee wore on Sunday when the incident occurred. According to the investigation, the suspect said that he went by motorcycle to buy two white T-shirts at the clothes shop on Oct 30.

The bombings at two locations in Paluru municipality took place on Sunday. The first blast occurred at the clothing shop when an assailant posed as a customer and placed a soda can packed with the explosive device in the shop before triggering the bomb. The blast damaged products in the shop but no casualties were reported.

The second incident took place at another clothing shop. However, the shop owner found the bomb and called authorities to defuse it in time.

Syria Accepts Arab Plan, Qatar PM Urges 'Serious' Implementation
[An Nahar] Syria accepted Wednesday an Arab League

plan to end nearly eight months of bloodshed in the revolt-hit country, as the Arab organization urged Damascus
...The City of Jasmin is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world. It has not always been inhabited by the same set of fascisti...
to "seriously" implement the approved roadmap.

The agreement announced at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo came amid huge pressure on Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
's regime, even from traditional allies such as China, to end weeks of prevarication and sign up to the deal drawn up by the pan-Arab bloc.

Briefing news hounds after the meeting, Qatari Premier Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani, the head of an Arab task force on the Syrian crisis, said: "The agreement is clear and we are pleased to have reached it and we'll be more pleased when it is implemented."

"What's important is the Syrian side's commitment to implementing this agreement, we hope and wish the implementation will be serious, whether concerning the cessation of violence and killing or concerning (the release of) prisoners" and the withdrawal of forces from towns and districts, Sheikh Hamad stressed.

He noted that "if Syria does not respect its commitments, the ministerial committee will meet again and take the necessary decisions."

Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi said the main aim was "to provide an Arab solution which sends a clear message to the Syrian people of qualitative progress towards halting all forms of violence."

Earlier on Wednesday, a League official said "the Syrian delegation accepted the vaporous Arab League plan without reservations and in its entirety."

The peace plan agreed to by Syria, a copy of which was obtained by Agence La Belle France Presse, provides for a "complete halt to the violence to protect civilians."

More than 3,000 people have died in the government's bloody crackdown on the unprecedented protests against President Bashir al-Assad's rule which broke out in mid-March, according to U.N. figures.

The blueprint also calls for the "release of people jugged as a result of the recent events, the withdrawal of forces from towns and districts where there have been armed festivities, and the granting of access to the Arab League, and Arab and international media."

It stipulates that "the Arab ministerial committee (headed by the prime minister of Qatar) will conduct consultations with the government and the various Syrian opposition parties aimed at launching a national dialogue."

The text does not specify a venue for the dialogue, a bone of contention between the government, which insists on Damascus, and the opposition which says it should be outside Syria.

U.N. chief the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
said it was vital that Assad's regime now swiftly implement the agreement in full.

"He must implement the agreement as soon as possible as agreed," Ban told a news conference in Tripoli on his first visit to Libya since the eruption in February of the conflict which toppled veteran ruler Moammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can screw up an entire nation, usually for the worse...
"People have suffered too much for too long and it's an unacceptable situation," the U.N. chief said.

"Killing civilians must stop immediately in Syria."

Damascus had come under mounting pressure to agree to the Arab League peace plan, with Western governments calling for a renewed attempt to push through a sanctions resolution at the U.N. Security Council after a first bid was vetoed by China and Russia early last month.

On Sunday, China warned Syria that its crackdown on dissent "cannot continue" and that it must agree to open talks with the opposition.

"Syria has to show some flexibility in that regard in order to help the Arab League implement its proposal," China's Middle East envoy Wu Sike told news hounds in Cairo.

Ahead of the Arab ministers' meeting, the opposition Syrian National Council had urged the League to "freeze Syria's membership, ensure the protection of civilians and recognize the SNC as the representative of the Syrian revolution."

The statement followed a similar call on Sunday by Facebook activists, after almost 100 people died on Friday and Saturday in the bloodiest two days of the uprising against Assad's regime.

More than 30 people were killed in violence on Wednesday, most of them security force personnel killed in festivities with troops who had mutinied rather than follow orders to shoot on civilians, a human rights

group said.

Deserters killed 15 members of the security forces in two operations in the flashpoint central province of Hama, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"A group of deserters blew up a device as a military van and a vehicle passed by in al-Madiq area, killing seven soldiers," the Britannia-based watchdog said.

Eight other security personnel were killed in a similar attack on a convoy carrying security agents and pro-regime gun-hung tough guys on the road between Qaalet al-Madiq and Sqailbiyeh, it added in a statement received in Nicosia.

The Observatory said the attacks were carried out "in response to the massacre of 11 workers" earlier in the day by a pro-regime group in Homs, another province in central Syria which has been a center of dissent.

The gunnies stormed a factory in the restive province, killing the 11, while security forces rubbed out eight civilians in several Homs neighborhoods, the rights watchdog said.

The Syrian regime has repeatedly said it is fighting "armed terrorists" and Assad pledged to carry out reforms but stressed he will not make changes amid chaos.

Suspected Ringleader in Estonians' Abduction Arrested
[An Nahar] Wael Abbas, the suspected ringleader in the abduction of the seven Estonian cyclists, has been incarcerated, reported the National News Agency on Wednesday.

He was incarcerated by Syrian security forces as he was attempting to escape to the country through a false ID, it added.

He was incarcerated and handed over to Leb's General Security Department.

The Estonians were freed on July 14, almost four months since gunnies kidnapped them as they entered Leb on a bicycle tour from Syria.

Sources had said that they were released in the Bekaa town of al-Taybi in an operation arranged by French intelligence services.

The abduction has not been officially claimed.

In September, the Internal Security Forces killed two accomplices of the alleged criminal mastermind behind the kidnapping during festivities in the area of al-Bireh in Rashaya.

Later that month, two Intelligence Branch officers were maimed when they were ambushed by gunnies in the hunt for the kidnappers in the village of Jlala near Shtaura.

One of the officers later died in October from injuries he sustained in the ambush.

Al-Liwaa newspaper reported in September that more than 17 people are members of the "secret organization" that carried out the kidnapping.

The gang is allegedly linked to another network specialized in kidnapping foreigners in Iraq.
