Afghanistan
Seven Suicide Bombers Attack Afghan Police Base
[An Nahar] A group of seven jacket wallahs attacked a police base in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad on Tuesday, killing five officers, police said.

One bomber set off a large kaboom at the entrance of the quick reaction police headquarters before two bombers blew themselves up inside the facility and four others died in a gun fight with police.

"The first one detonated a boom-mobile; two others entered the base and detonated themselves and the remaining four were rubbed out," Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, the Nangarhar

province police front man, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The Talibs immediately grabbed credit for the attack, claiming that it had targeted "foreigners and Israeli teachers" training Afghan police at the base in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar.

"There are heavy police casualties," the group said.

Jalalabad is situated on the key route from the Pakistain border regions, where many snuffies are based, to the capital Kabul, and the city has been targeted by repeated suicide kabooms in recent years.

The last attack was on February 24 when a bomber rammed a boom-mobile into the gates of the walled compound of the National Directorate of Security spy agency and detonated his bombs, killing two intelligence workers.

Nine Taliban suicide attackers also targeted the NATO

All the attackers in that assault were also killed, some blowing themselves up in two vehicles at the perimeter gate and others shot as they attempted to storm the base. It was the third attack on Jalalabad airport in 2012.

Afghan soldiers and police are taking over responsibility for the fight against the Taliban as international troops leave, but local forces are poorly-trained and fears are growing that Afghanistan could tip into further instability.

Kerry said that the U.S. would support the country after NATO combat operations wind down, telling Karzai that Washington was "committed to Afghanistan's illusory sovereignty and we will not let al-Qaeda or the Taliban shake this commitment".

Australian Troops to Quit Afghanistan as Base Closes
[An Nahar] Australia's main base in Afghanistan will close and most of its troops will be home by the end of the year, Defense Minister Stephen Smith said on Tuesday, admitting the mission had run too long.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
-led force in Afghanistan, has decided to shut the base in Tarin Kot in Uruzgan province, and this means an end to Australia's main mission.

With ISAF's closure of Tarin Kot, "the majority of Australia's troops will come home from Afghanistan", Smith said in a statement, calling it a significant milestone.

The move is in line with Canberra's aim of withdrawing the bulk of its 1,550 troops in 2013, earlier than planned due to security gains, and Smith told news hounds the time was right to pull out.

Egypt Opposition Activist Turns Himself In
[An Nahar] A pro-democracy activist and opponent of Egypt's ruling Moslem Brüderbund turned himself in to the prosecutor's office for questioning on Tuesday, a day after an order for his arrest.

Alaa Abdel Fattah was "temporarily released" a few hours later, a judicial source said.

In a tweet sent during his questioning, the young man said he refused "to answer questions because the prosecutor general is not impartial" and mocked the case against him.

The investigation against him had been prompted by a tweet he had received rather than sent himself, Abdel Fattah said.

The activist arrived at the prosecutor's office with his wife and son, as dozens of sympathizers chanted: "Down with the power of the guide," the supreme leader of the Moslem Brüderbund movement of President Mohamed Morsi.

Prosecutor general Talaat Abdallah on Monday also ordered the arrest of four other young opposition activists on charges of inciting violence, following festivities last week in Cairo, state news agency MENA reported.

Gunman wounds Russian Red Cross worker in Yemen
[Al Ahram] A Russian aid worker working for the International Committee of the Red Thingy was shot and maimed by unidentified gunnies in the Yemeni capital on Tuesday, a security official said.

"The foreign worker was in the car of an international organization when she was shot in one of Sanaa's streets," the official said, adding that the woman was at death's door.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
an ICRC spokeswoman in Geneva said the aid worker had not been seriously hurt. She confirmed the shooting incident but said it was not clear whether its staff member had been maimed by a bullet or by shattered car window glass.

"The incident is under investigation. She is slightly injured and received medical attention. It is not life-threatening," ICRC spokeswoman Dibeh Fakhr told Rooters.

"We don't know if the wound was caused by a bullet or by glass from the broken window. They were in a car," she added.

Asked if the vehicle had been targeted, Fakhr said the independent aid agency was trying to clarify the circumstances of the incident and would not comment further until then.

Officials at the Russian embassy in Sanaa and the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said they had no information about the shooting of a Russian aid worker and were checking.

Bangla: 12 vehicles torched, Train compartment set ablaze, police station bombed
[Bangla Daily Star] A 36-hour countrywide hartal
... a peculiarly Bangla combination of a general strike and a riot, used by both major political groups in lieu of actual governance ...
starts at 6:00am today amid public anxiety about violence, as the BNP-led 18-party alliance hinted at enforcing a tougher shutdown.

Despite strict security measures, pro-hartal activists set alight 11 vehicles in different parts of the capital, including near Dhaka College and New Market, and at Segunbagicha, Mirpur, Motijheel, Nayapaltan and Karwan Bazar since yesterday noon.

Police locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
20 people for resorting to violence and torching vehicles. Of them, 10 were incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
by mobile courts for different terms between 15 days and one year, sources in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said.

In Gazipur, myrmidons set a bus ablaze in Chandana of Sadar upazila last night while in Mymensingh, myrmidons torched a train coach in the evening.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shattered spaceship, Fffflirgoll the Arcturan slithered stealthily toward the control room, where the humans had barricaded themselves...
criminals blasted a homemade bomb at Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi last night, leaving three coppers injured.

Tornado-hit Brahmanbaria will be out of the purview of the strike. Besides, media vehicles, ambulance and other transport of emergency services have been exempted from the purview of hartal.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
last night directed her party high-ups, politicians and city leaders to ensure their presence on roads during the hartal to make it a success, party insiders said.

"Aggrieved at the inactiveness of the central and top leaders during recent hartals, the BNP chief told the top leaders that the ongoing anti-government movement won't be successful if they remain inactive," a BNP leader told The Daily Star on Monday.

Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
, the key ally of BNP in the 18-party alliance, has also instructed its leaders and activists to ensure their strong presence on the streets since the morning today, said several Jamaat leaders.

The 18-party alliance on March 25 announced the hartal as part of its fresh agitation to put pressure on the Awami League-led grand alliance government to meet its demands, including the release of opposition leaders, stopping government-sponsored "genocide," restoration of caretaker government system and resignation of the government.

The government has taken tough security measures, including deployment of mobile courts and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, who will patrol the roads during hartal hours to help police maintain law and order.

"BGB members will also be deployed outside Dhaka, if required by the district administrations," Muhasin Reza, public relations officer of BGB, told The Daily Star.

A large number of police and Rapid Action Battalion members have already been deployed in and outside the capital to beef up security.

#1  Jamaat are the same people who brought you nearly three million dead civilians..who just happened to all be Hindus ( for some reason)...and Jamaat IS ( ready for the drumroll )...Moslem.

As in goose stepping Moslem. As in March 25th at one in the morning driving Tanks and armed soldiers onto the Dacca University Campus and opening fire with 90mm tank cannon on the sleeping dorms while they loaded 300 young girls students on trucks to be taken back to the Barracks and ...well....those kind of things happen when Moslems run a country .

Do you have any Moslem neighbors?

If they can they will. Moslems are like that.

Butt in the air Moslems. Not exactly your friends but then maybe they are different in the United States. Maybe they will assimilate here.

Link to the story about the co-eds, please, Mr. Threater Flusoper9823. That's not the kind of thing Fred, who is a retired military analyst, normally misses. Come to think of it, that's not the kind of story CNN or the Drudge Report would miss. Not three hundred young women, at least three of whom must have influential relatives by statistics alone.

Bloody Zacatecas: Fighting continues between Los Zetas and Gulf Cartel

Zacatecas top cop denies news reports of massacres

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

A total of two individuals were shot to death in separate instances in Zacatecas state Saturday and Monday, according to Mexican news and anonymous correspondents.

However, La Jornada news daily has claimed that at least 14 individuals died in the midnight gunfight which took place in Guadalupe municipality.

An anonymous correspondent in Guadalupe claimed that a small gunfight took place, also adding, "it is not uncommon to hear gunfire isolated colonies away from the center, but there is no official information or notes press the matter."

According to a news account published in El Sol de Zacatecas news daily, a gunfight erupted between local Los Zetas and Gulf cartel gangs on midnight Saturday in Guadalupe municipality in Rincon Colonial colony near the intersection of Calzada Solidaridad and Vialidad San Simon.

Units with the Zacatecas state Policia Estatal Preventiva (PEP) while returning to base were diverted to the scene, but were fired on by an unknown number of armed suspects. The unit was forced to withdraw from the scene, but was ordered back in once the shooting stopped.

Police found one individual shot to death inside a pickup truck and two others nearby who surrendered to police. A subsequent search turned up two other suspects who were also detained.

The gunshot victim was identified as Eduardo Ivan Hernandez Martinez, 23. The three detainees were identified as Martin Gerardo Perez Campos, 19, Benjamin Muñoz Garcia, 27 and Mario Jonathan "N", 17.

Police secured two AK-47 rifles from the dead victim and one more from one of the detainees. Police also seized four weapons magazines, 79 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and the vehicle.

The Zacatecas state Secretaria de Seguridad Publica (SSP), General Jesus Pinto Ortiz issued a press statement denying the La Jornada Monday report of a large massacre.

Mexican cartel shooters on both sides sometimes make lavish use of the tactic of evacuating their dead and wounded as a security measure. Zacatecas state two months ago was the focus of a commitment by at least one publisher, Luis Enrique Mercado Sanchez -- former Partido Accion Nacional (PAN) deputy and publisher of Imagen and El Centinela -- to move news of shootings from the front page to other sections. The reason given was not to give the idea to visitors that Zacatecas state was engulfed in drug and gang related violence.

An incident which took place in Mexico state last summer illustrates the extent to which drug gangs and government officials -- separately and for their own reasons -- attempt to color events. In one municipality reportedly some 30 individuals were killed over a two day period, which Mexico state authorities deny, even in the face of contradicting accounts by local residents that a large number of killed and wounded were witnessed.

The Mexican federal government has made it very clear to the press that it will control how and when information will be presented, sometimes going as far as slow walking information to the press. The federal government has legal requirements that it must publish information relating to security matters, but apparently how that requirement is fulfilled is left open to question.

In a separate incident which took place Monday the owner of a gas station in Sombrerete municipality Monday. According to a news report which appeared on the website of Zacatecas En Linea, Ramiro Murillo was shot three times, once in the head and left by his pickup truck. The victim is the father of Cecilio Murillo, candidate for mayor by the Partido del Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).

Senor Murillo was reportedly kidnapped Sunday, but had failed to contact anyone before he was found dead.

In other news, gunfights have taken place in Zacatecas Sunday during a cultural festival, according to an anonymous correspondent. Gunshots were heard near Lomas de Bernardez. No reports have been published on whether anyone was hurt in those incidents.

Over the weekend Zacatecas city has been the site of a festival activities of which included use of fireworks.

According to the correspondent: "...there were fireworks [which] burned down a house in the center [from a] spark apparently from rockets, [during the] the shooting, so who knows if he had used the chaos between the fire, people, drums, concert and others. The shooting was not at the center. This time was concentrated [near the] security forces."

A man identified as the shooter of a high ranking police commander in Nuevo Leon state was shot to death by police agents in a Monterrey suburb Saturday, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to a news account posted on the website of Milenio news daily, Humberto Victor Galindo AKA El Guacho and another unidentified man said to be an accomplice, were shot to death by Nuevo Leon state ministerial police agents at a farm in Santa Catarina municipality Saturday afternoon.

Nuevo Leon state commander of the Agencia Estatal de Investigaciones (AEI), Gustavo Gerardo Garza Saucedo AKA El Jerry, was shot to death early on the morning of February 19th by a sniper using a .50 caliber Barrett brand rifle, presumably a semi automatic rifle
...they presume correctly for once...
at a range of about 60 yards, which is a tiny fraction of the range of the weapon.
That does seem like 'overkill' but this is Mexico...
The police commander was just arriving at his home in the Hacienda del Carmen colony of Apodaca, which is a suburb of Monterrey, the state capital of Nuevo Leon.

According to a separate press report posted on the website of El Diario de Coahuila news daily, Victor Galindo was a Mexican Army deserter from Veracruz state who left the army eight years ago, and was the Los Zetas turf commander for Santa Catarina municipality.

Santa Catarina is located due west of Monterrey city.

The assassination took place after Victor Galindo and another accomplice, identified as Juan Jesús Silva Saenz, threatened security guards at the gated community where Garza Saucedo resided. News accounts say Silva Saenz allegedly acted as a lookout at a nearby convenience store while Victor Galindo shot his victim.

According to the news account, Silva Saenz allegedly arranged an armed robbery of the store as a diversion and then he watched at the location, then signalled the shooter.

Silva Saenz himself was detained aboard a Ford Aerostar van as he and two other individuals travelling March 14th at a security checkpoint on the Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo highway, where security elements found 34 rifles allegedly in his possession. Among the rifles seized were AR-15 and AK-47 rifles. According to another account which appeared on the Nota Roja Konecho blog, the stop led to a second vehicle with two more AK-47 rifles and 67 weapons magazines inside.

Nuevo Leon ministerial police agents began conducting a search of an area in Santa Catarina Saturday in the area where are five abandoned farms.

Victor Galindo and other accomplices were found at a farm called Eucalyptus, in the wooded area of Parque La Huasteca colony. According to the translation, Víctor Galindo cycled his weapon's action to fire but was shot to death by police agents.

At then location police agents seized one AR-15 rifle and one AK-47 rifle. An unknown number of other suspects were also in the area with Victor Galindo, but had apparently escaped the police cordon.

According to the El Diario de Coahuila account, state police agents did not inform Santa Catarina police about the search operation until it was over.

Los Zetas, like their Sinaloa and Gulf cartel rivals like to maintain turf bosses in many municipalities in northern Mexico. Above the municipality level, Los Zetas maintain a regional boss as well.

#1  Just FYI. Barrett makes two semiautomatic .50 caliber rifles, two or three bolt action .50 caliber rifles, and a few other rifles in .338 Lapua, .416 Barrett and maybe one in 5.56 but I'd have to check. So Barrett doesn't automatically equate to semiautomatic.

#2  I never said it does. My point was that a single spent cartridge casing was left at the scene by the shooter. I think it was left there not because the shooter cycled the action on a bolt action before he left the scene, but because he was firing a semi automatic.

Actual distance to the target was probably irrelevant. Individual Body Armor or vehicular armor penetration was the goal. Badanov can correct me, but I believe picking up expended brass is a Los Zetas or bad guy counter-forensics TTP, not a police TTP.

#4  Expended brass, one spent shell casing, was left at the scene, and counter forensics is one theory as to why Mexican shooters clear their brass. Why Victor Galindo did not will ever be a mystery. Maybe an oversight, maybe it was deliberate. I s'pect it was an oversight because it makes little sense to clear a bolt action after a round has been fired, but a semiautomatic would pop out the brass.

My favorite pet theory is that Mexican drug gangs retrieve their brass because they are having as difficult a time finding ammo as the rest of us, and that they are reloading their own.

#7  Oops hit the go button too soon.

But to continue, the Barrett in its various forms is a highly lethal weapon with no known redeaming social value, you won't go hunting Elk with that sucker, the meat would spoil before you got to the carcass...anyway, the Barrett should be a highly monitored and observed item and for the Narcoterrorists in Mexico to have one means it was purchased in the US for this guy....Fast and Furious?

I'd love to see a stink over this one. It's one thing to let a popgun M-16 walk but to let a weapon capable of dismembering a victim at over a MILE is another...

Belgian police kill man suspected of terror links
BRUSSELS: Belgian police shot dead a man of Algerian origin suspected of terrorist links after a motorway pursuit Tuesday, moving in after an investigation that was triggered by a tip-off from French officials.

In a statement issued early Wednesday, French Interior Minister Manuel Valls praised Belgium for its anti-terrorism cooperation.

The shoot-out took place in the early afternoon on the motorway linking the capital Brussels and the southern city of Tournai as police chased the man down, the Belga news agency reported.

The suspect was a known figure in the Brussels criminal underworld, said Tournai prosecutor Marie-Claude Maertens, the agency reported.

When police decided to move in to arrest him, he refused repeated calls to stop and then drove at police officers, opening fire at them. The police fired back, fatally wounding him, she added.

Later Tuesday, the federal prosecutors office told reporters that Belgian investigators had opened their investigation into the the 30-year-old man in response to two French requests for information about him late last year.

French investigators had said they suspected he belonged to a criminal gang with terrorist ties.

The Belgian investigation established that the man was buying military equipment including weapons, bullet-proof clothing and telescopic sights.

After police linked him to an armed robbery at a restaurant in Brussels last Thursday, they decided to move in and arrest him.

Following the motorway shoot-out, police searched the suspect's home in Anderlecht, a suburb of Brussels. There, they found weapons, ammunition and explosives.

Police will display the arsenal they found at the suspect's flat on Wednesday. Officers also arrested a woman and were questioning her Tuesday night, Belga reported.

I apologize in advance to my Catholic brothers but the Church did that for several centuries to control the masses. When actually, the eventual changing of the litergy from Latin to the local language resulting from the Gutenberg Bible actually increased the faith.

If these ignorant rubes in Pakistan could read and comprehend what they are reading, maybe there would not be as much terrorism. Most of these jihadis are taking what their radical Imams are saying on blind faith.

And we know that blind faith is radicalism.

Iraq
Bomb kills 2 Politicians in Disputed Iraqi Town
[An Nahar] A roadside kaboom on Tuesday destroyed an armored car killing two local politicians and badly wounding a third in a disputed town north of Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
, officials said.

The kaboom struck just north of the town of Tuz Khurmatu, 175 kilometers (110 miles) from the capital, and also killed one of the group's bodyguards and maimed another, according to a police colonel and a medic at the local hospital.

Town mayor Shallal Abdul, city council chief Abdulqader Naimi and Salaheddin provincial councilor Rashid Khorshid had been traveling together to inspect a road paving project north of Tuz when the bomb went off.

Naimi and Khorshid, both candidates in provincial elections due to be held on April 20, were killed, and Abdul was badly maimed and transported to a hospital in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniyah.

Tuz Khurmatu lies at the center of a tract of disputed territory that is claimed by both the mostly-Arab central government in Storied Baghdad and the autonomous Kurdish region.

3 Dead, Several Hurt in Damascus Suicide Attack
[An Nahar] A suicide kaboom in northern Damascus
...The place where Pencilneck hangs his brass hat...
on Tuesday killed three people and maimed several others, state news agency SANA reported, hours after a girl was killed in a mortar attack in the city.

"A terrorist jacket wallah blew up a van in the east of Rukn al-Din neighborhood in Damascus," SANA said, citing an official as saying at least three people were killed.

There were no details on how many people had been injured.

A resident of the neighborhood, reached by telephone, told Agence La Belle France Presse he had heard an enormous kaboom, which shattered the windows of shops and houses near the scene.

Clouds of smoke rose above the site of the blast, which was heard in neighborhoods several kilometers (a few miles) away.

Pro-regime al-Ikhbariya television showed images of a huge crater in the ground and a building with shattered windows.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the bombing, saying it had struck near a military supply center and that preliminary information suggested military personnel were among the casualties.

Earlier on Tuesday, in the central Baramkeh district, "a young girl was killed and several other students were maimed when mortars fired by gunnies hit a school compound," SANA said, without giving the victim's age.

"Shells also landed on two (other) schools... injuring four civilians, including a teacher, and damaging the buildings," SANA added.

The Britannia-based Observatory confirmed the report, adding that an unknown number of people were maimed.

Earlier, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported a mortar attack on the same district, near SANA'S headquarters, describing it as "a new attack on Syrian media by terrorists".

The attack left three civilians dead, it added, without specifying whether there were journalists among them.

Elsewhere in Syria, regime troops seized Baba Amr in the central city of Homs, the Observatory said, two weeks after fighting erupted in the flashpoint district.

Rebel fighters had re-entered Baba Amr after the army launched an all-out assault aimed at crushing the insurgency in besieged bad turban enclaves of central Homs.

In recent days, "the army used warplanes, rockets and tank shells to bombard" Baba Amr, the Observatory said, adding that residents who had fled their homes in the district returned to find them "uninhabitable."

In the sensitive Quneitra district, located on Syria's ceasefire line with Israel, rebels seized an air defense base, said the Observatory, which relies on a broad network of activists, doctors and lawyers for its reporting.

The U.N. says more than 70,000 people have been killed in Syria since anti-regime protests broke out in March 2011, transforming into an insurgency when the regime unleashed a brutal crackdown.

At least 45 people were killed throughout Syria on Tuesday, according to a preliminary toll from the Observatory that was issued before the number of fatalities from the Damascus boom-mobile was known.

On Monday, at least 122 people were killed, the group said.

Child Dead, Many Hurt as Mortars Hit Damascus School Compound
[An Nahar] At least one child was killed and several others were maimed on Tuesday in a mortar attack on a compound housing several schools in central Damascus
...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world...
, a monitoring group and state news agency SANA said.

"A young girl was killed and several other students were maimed when mortars fired by faceless myrmidons hit a school compound in the Baramkeh district of Damascus," SANA said, without giving the victim's age.

"Shells also landed on two (other) schools... injuring four civilians, including a teacher, and damaging the buildings," SANA added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog confirmed the report, adding that an unknown number of people were maimed.

Earlier, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported a mortar attack on the same district, near the headquarters of state news agency SANA, describing it as "a new attack on Syrian media by terrorists".

#2  that military base in Kansas could be either Fort Leavenworth, or the home of the Big Red One, Fort Riley. There are other assorted air force bases such as Forbes field in Wichita. A good soft target would be Fort Dodge which houses WW2, Korean and Vietnam vets, and has a VA clinic.

Syrian Observatory: Army Recaptures Homs' Baba Amr
[An Nahar] Forces loyal to Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
have seized Baba Amr in the central city of Homs, a watchdog said on Tuesday, two weeks after fighting for the flashpoint district erupted.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights issued the report a day after it said opposition activists had found the scorched corpses of 13 people, including five women and four children, in the village of Abel in the countryside near Homs.

"Syrian regime forces have recaptured total control of the district of Baba Amr, after more than two weeks, after rebel fighters had infiltrated the area and seized several neighborhoods," said the Britannia-based group.

An activist from the district confirmed the report, saying: "The rebels have withdrawn from Baba Amr."

The rebel fighters had re-entered Baba Amr after the army launched an all-out assault aimed at crushing the insurgency in besieged beturbanned goon enclaves of central Homs.

This time last year, regime forces overran Baba Amr after a relentless month-long siege that left the neighborhood in ruins and claimed hundreds of lives.

In recent days, "the army used warplanes, rockets and tank shells to bombard" Baba Amr, said the Observatory, adding residents who had fled their homes in the district returned to find them "uninhabitable."

On Monday night, the Observatory said at least 13 scorched bodies were found in the village of Abel, in the countryside near Homs.

The victims had been "slaughtered and burned," said the Observatory, adding that "activists blamed pro-regime militia for committing this massacre".

The Syrian Revolution General Commission, a network of activists on the ground, distributed on Tuesday amateur video showing a row of buildings reduced to piles of grey rubble in a neighborhood of Homs city.

"This is total destruction... residential buildings have been destroyed... shops have been destroyed... everything inside the buildings has been destroyed," an unidentified activist can be heard saying in the video.

"Homs is burning and no one cares."

#2  Homs has changed hands more times than the Mississippi LaSalle BBall game last Sunday.

Yep, pass the popcorn. As long as Syria is comedy central for all the jihadi nutjobs in the ME I would think our threat level is a bit lower...or maybe the Al Qaeda involvement is a rope a dope to fool us into thinking the threat level is lower and they are up to something?

Tit-for-Tat Abductions Continue between Jaafar Clan, Arsal Residents
[An Nahar] Tit-for-tat kidnappings continued on Tuesday in the Bekaa region between the Jaafar clan and the residents of the town of Arsal.

A minibus driver identified as Issam Mohammed Jaafar was kidnapped in al-Zaytoun area in northern Bekaa, while a pickup truck belonging to Khaled Ezzedine was found empty in the outskirts of the town of Iaat and he is believed to have been kidnapped, state-run National News Agency reported.

Army troops towed the pickup truck to an army base in the area, NNA said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
an army airborne unit encircled the Baalbek neighborhood of Sharawneh and cordoned off all its exits, especially al-Basatin area, NNA added.

Later on Tuesday, the agency said the minibus driver Issam Jaafar was found after being nabbed in al-Zaytoun area, without elaborating.

Two other people were kidnapped on the Qobaiyat-Bekaa road.

"The Jaafar clan has released an abductee from the Yassine family who hails from the Bekaa town of Zboud, as it kept Arsal resident Walid Zaarour in its custody," NNA reported later.

Several men, who hail from Arsal, were kidnapped over the weekend in retaliation for the kidnapping of Hussein Jaafar, who hails from the town of al-Bustan in Hermel, by unidentified gunnies.

Media reports said that Jaafar was taken to Syria.

The Jaafar clan had urged the security forces to assume their duties in the case and condemned the abduction.
