Car bomb explosion at market in Mogadishu kills 1
MOGADISHU -- A Car bomb went off inside Mogadishu's Hamarweyne market killing one person and wounding seven civilians nearby on Wednesday according to witnesses, Garowe Online reports.

Local reports added that the exploded car is owned by Somali Federal Member of Parliament and the chairman of Somalia's parliamentary committee on finance Sheikh Aden Mader who reportedly went out from his car shortly before the explosion.

The commissioner of Mogadishu's Hamarweyne district Abdullahi Ibrahim Sahal Gardhub who spoke to the media shortly after the explosion told that the explosion could have been a bomb attached beneath the MP's seat or a plastic wrap laden with bomb. He also said they are still carrying out investigation to know exact cause of the blast.
It was a bomb...
On the other hand the chief of Afar-Irdod police station Mohamed Dahir denied reports of the death and confirmed that the MP was absent from the car.
"You can't visit him, that's all."
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion-as has been the case for much of the deadly bombings and assassinations targeting the Somali federal government officials are frequently the work of Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group.

Egypt Blast Kills One, Wounds 28
[AnNahar] A blast Wednesday at a cop shoppe in a Nile Delta city killed one person and maimed 28, a medic said, in the latest incidence of violence sweeping Egypt since president Mohammed Morsi's ouster.

Mohamed Sultan, deputy head of the emergency services, told Agence La Belle France Presse an bomb went off very early in the morning outside a cop shoppe in the city of Mansura, in Dahqaliya province.

He put the toll at "28 maimed and one dead", while state media reported that the dead man was a police conscript.

A previous toll from security sources said that the kaboom had maimed eight members of the security forces.

The blast came after festivities between supporters and opponents of Morsi, deposed by the military on July 3, killed at least 13 people across Egypt since Monday.

Mansura has seen previous unrest, with three women protesters dying in festivities at a rally in support of Morsi in the city on Friday.

Tensions have been high across Egypt as supporters of Morsi press protests calling for his reinstatement, even as the country's military-backed cabinet tries to get down to work.

Nearly 170 people have died in political unrest in Egypt since the end of June, according to an AFP tally.

Violence in Sinai, where the government faces a low-level insurgency, has in the same period killed around another 40, including security services personnel, civilians and Death Eaters.

Two Egyptian Soldiers Killed In Sinai
[AnNahar] Gunmen killed two Egyptian soldiers in the restive Sinai on Wednesday, security officials said, as the military chief called for mass rallies to back a crackdown on "terrorism and violence".

One soldier died of a bullet wound to the chest after gunnies fired at a checkpoint near the north Sinai town of EL-Arish, the officials said.

Another soldier was rubbed out several hours later in an attack on a water truck belonging to the army in El-Arish.

Militants have conducted daily attacks on security forces in Sinai since the military overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi on July 3.

Army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday called for demonstrations in support of a crackdown on "terrorism and violence", in comments quickly branded by a senior Islamist as a "threat".

Jebel Chaambi operations continue in Tunisia
Tunisian Interim Prime Minister Ali Larayedh acknowledged on Monday (July 22nd) that the terror threat in Jebel Chaambi was not yet over.

"Army and security units are still pursuing through various methods terrorist groups entrenched in Jebel Chaambi in order to monitor their movements," the prime minister revealed during an interview with four local radio stations.

Larayedh said that no arrests had been made in Jebel Chaambi, though people with suspected ties to the al-Qaeda linked group and others carrying weapons were arrested in various parts of the country.

The prime minister also refused to elaborate on the warnings made by Algeria about the possibility that the Signed in Blood Brigade led by Algerian Mokhtar Belmokhtar might conduct operations in Tunisia. However he stressed, "Security co-operation between the two countries is continuing, especially in the area of intelligence sharing."

U.N.: Egypt crackdown closes 80% of Gaza tunnels
About 80 percent of tunnels used to smuggle goods and arms into the Gaza Strip from Egypt are "no longer functioning" due to a crackdown by the Egyptian military after it ousted President Mohamed Mursi this month, a U.N. official said on Tuesday.
More, please...
U.N. Middle East peace envoy Robert Serry told the U.N. Security Council that the Gaza Strip was experiencing "some serious shortages of fuel and basic building materials for which the tunnels had become the primary entry point due to severe restrictions on imports via the official crossings and the higher cost of fuel available from the West Bank and Israel."

Cairo moved to close the tunnels after militants in the Egyptian Sinai desert killed 16 of its soldiers a year ago. Egypt said some of the gunmen had slipped into Sinai from nearby Gaza, an accusation denied by the Islamist Hamas authorities.

The tunnel crackdown has gathered pace since the Egyptian military removed Mursi from power earlier this month. Mursi's short-lived rule had already disappointed Hamas, since despite their shared ideology he appeared to be in no rush to open the Gaza border.

"As a result of these actions against illegal activity, according to some estimates, 80 percent of the tunnels are no longer functioning," Serry said.

Hamas, which taxes much of the traffic through the underground passages, has been hit hard by the losses. Ordinary Palestinians, many of them dependent on U.N. aid handouts, have seen prices for staple goods skyrocket.

"While the only Israeli crossing for goods ... has remained open and is handling increased quantities of consumers' goods, we are concerned that already difficult economic and humanitarian conditions in Gaza will further deteriorate, if access into Gaza through legal crossings of basic commodities like ammunition building materials is not liberalized," Serry said.

Israel still maintains strict control of all imports into Gaza to prevent arms reaching Hamas, which refuses to recognize the Jewish state and has often clashed with it. Under international accords, merchandise cannot be imported via Egypt.

Ala Al-Rafati, the Hamas economy minister, said on Sunday that tunnel closures since June had cost Gaza around $230 million -- around one-tenth of the gross domestic product of the territory, where the unemployment rate among its 1.7 million residents is more than 30 percent.
The other 70 percent are either directly employed as Hamas hard boyz, or as UNHCR employees, or both...

Egypt orders fresh arrest of Brüderbünd leaders
CAIRO - Egypt's public prosecutor ordered the arrest of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie and eight senior members of the Islamist movement on Wednesday in a probe over accusations of inciting violence, MENA state news agency reported.

Badie has been detained for questioning and later released at least once since the army deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, a leader of the Brotherhood, on July 3.

Darfur Rebels Launch New Attack on Central Sudan
Rebels from Sudan's strife-torn Darfur region launched a new assault on the country's once placid heartland on Wednesday, sending civilians running for cover, rebels and witnesses said.

Residents in al-Rachad, in the central North Kordofan state, an agricultural area that produces much of Sudan's gum arabic, exported for use in soft drinks, said they could hear explosions and intense gunfire outside the nearby town of Jebel al-Dayer.

“People have arrived here today fleeing fighting in the area of Jebel al-Dayer,” said a resident of Rachad, asking not to be named.

Gibril Adam, spokesman for the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), one of the biggest rebel groups in Darfur, said its fighters had attacked an army position. “We handed the army a defeat,” he said.

DRC Troops Target Rebel Site Near Goma
The Congolese army says it has attacked an M23 base near Goma, a city that was briefly captured by the rebel group last year.

Army spokesman Colonel Olivier Hamuli says Wednesday's military strikes targeted the rebel group's storage sites for weapons and ammunition.

But the rebel group says military helicopters bombed a nearby neighborhood, striking the village of Kavodo, close to Rumangabo, killing several people.

“They did not attack any military position, they attacked only houses and people who were around Rumangabo,” said M23 leader Bertrand Bisimwa.

An M23 spokesman emailed photos showing destruction and dead bodies the group claims is a result of the attack, and a doctor at a hospital treating victims said three children were killed as well as an adult, and that seven others were wounded.

Ethnic Clashes Death Toll Hits 98
Three days of ethnic violence in Guinea last week left 98 people dead, nearly double the previous death toll, the government said on Wednesday.

The violence erupted on July 14 after a man accused of being a thief was lynched. It took place during tense preparations for long-delayed elections meant to restore civilian rule after a 2008 military coup.

"We are today at around 100 dead — 76 victims in [Guinea's second largest city] Nzerekore and 22 others in Koule," government spokesman Damantang Albert Camara said.

The government said on July 18 that 58 people had died in the clashes in the southeast of the country between the mainly Christian or animist Guerze community, which is dominant in the region, and the northern Konianke, who are mainly Muslim and have settled there.

France Detains Man Suspected Of Wanting To Join Syria Radicals
[AnNahar] A man suspected of wanting to fight alongside radical Salafist tough guys in Syria was locked away
Please don't kill me!
in La Belle France as part of an anti-terrorist operation, a source close to the case said Wednesday.

The unidentified 47-year-old was visiting his family near the eastern city of Belfort when he was taken in for questioning Tuesday by intelligence officers, the source told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The detention comes just days after a woman in the Netherlands was placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on suspicion of recruiting people to fight alongside Death Eaters in Syria, amid growing concern about young Dutch Moslems being enlisted for the conflict.

As many as 600 Europeans -- including 92 from La Belle France -- may have joined rebel forces in Syria since early 2011, according to research by the International Center for the Study of Radicalization at King's College London.

The man lives in the southwestern city of Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
, the source said, without giving further details.

According to La Belle France Bleu local radio, he could be close to "two brothers from Toulouse, whose videos were posted last week on YouTube", with one of them calling on French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
"to convert to Islam".

The radio posted a statement on its website from a witness who said the man was detained while he was in a car.

"Twenty balaclava-clad men came from everywhere, armed to the teeth," he said.

"In the passenger seat was a relatively elderly woman, a woman, who had a scarf on her head, but not like a burqa or a niqab. In the driver's seat was a man with a beard and longish hair."

Splodydopes, hard boyz attack ISI office; 7 dead
KARACHI: Suicide car bombers and gunmen attacked a government complex housing offices of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Wednesday, sparking a shootout that killed seven people, officials said.

The dead included four attackers, one intelligence agent and a government employee, in what was an unprecedented attack in the otherwise sleepy southern town of Sukkur. Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility, it is likely to revive fears that the reach of militancy is spreading in the country.
Tehreek-e-Taleban does seem to be getting frisky...
State TV said at least 38 people were wounded in what has been one of the bloodiest attacks blamed on militants in the country so far during the holy month of Ramazan.

Police said the attackers stormed the complex of offices and homes for senior officials, including those belonging to the ISI, as people broke their fast after sundown. They detonated two bombs -- one outside a police building and a car bomb outside the ISI office in the town. A police official said apparently a suicide bomber first blew himself up in front of a police building and then a second suicide bomber detonated the explosive-filled car outside the ISI office.

"Armed people have attacked. Apparently it is an organised terrorist attack, we have sent a heavy contingent of police to the site," Javed Odho, a Sukkur police officer, told AFP by telephone. A hospital official told AFP that the bodies of an ISI agent and another government employee had been brought into the morgue, and that 15 other people had been admitted with injuries.

"A total of seven people were killed and several injured," said Major General Rizwan Akhtar, head of the paramilitary Sindh Rangers. President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the terrorist attack and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace of those who were killed. While condemning the attack, minister of defence production said the government is committed to fighting terror. "The government will provide best medical facilities to the injured."

9 killed in Iraq police station attack
Militants attacked a police station in north Iraq on Wednesday with mortar rounds and automatic weapons, killing nine police, doctors and officials said. Wednesday’s assault on a police station about 60 kilometres (37 miles) south of the northern city of Mosul, also left two policemen wounded, the sources said.

It was followed by a roadside bomb explosion as emergency personnel travelled to the scene, wounding another two people.

In a separate incident, gunmen killed a man in Baquba, a city north of Baghdad.

Syria gov't rocket attack kills 15 Palestinian refugees

Horror of Homs...
killed at least 15 Paleostinians, mostly women and kiddies, in a rocket attack on a rebel-held refugee camp on the southern edge of Damascus on Wednesday, opposition activists said.

Paleostinian militia from the pro-Assad Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine
-General Command (PFLP-GC), as well as Syrian army and intelligence troops, have been surrounding the camp for months.

On Saturday they launched a ground infantry assault backed by tanks and multiple rocket launchers to capture the camp but were being met by stiff resistance, opposition sources said.

"The rockets hit a residential and shopping area way behind the front line. The victims were civilians," activist Rami al-Sayyed from the Syrian Media Centre opposition monitoring group, said from the area, adding that 45 people were maimed.

The report could not be independently confirmed. The Syrian government restricts access to journalists.

The Yarmouk Camp Coordination Committee said two Grad missiles fired by PFLP-GC militia hit the Hamdan Bakery area. Five women and five children were killed. One family living in the area, Fadlon, had five members killed, the organization said.

Video footage taken by activists, which could not be immediately verified, showed one destroyed building and extensive damage to surrounding structures.

Located at the southern entrance of Damascus, the sprawling camp was home to hundreds of thousands of Syrians and Paleostinians before the uprising against the 13 year rule of Assad.

Yarmouk links the large rebel held Sunni Mohammedan neighbourhoods of Hajar al-Aswad and Asali with the capital and its capture is a key objective for loyalist forces seeking to regain control over southern Damascus, opposition sources said.

Syrian rebels aided by Paleostinian fighters who had joined the revolt captured Yarmouk at the start of this year and took the PFLP-GC headquarters in the camp. The PFLP-GC, headed by long time Assad ally Ahmed Jibreel, is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States.

#1  killed in Homs

Operation Northern Storm which was supposed to be Assad's push to retake Aleppo, is being postponed again and again while Hezbollah troops are being used to mop up around the Damascus region and along other parts of the west. Meanwhile the anti Assad forces are consolidating their hold on the east and north

#2  Assad was trained as an eye doctor, not a military strategist. I suppose, considering everything, he's doing fair to middlin' as a bloody-handed dictator in the throes of civil war.
