American Islamic militant eats dirt in Somalia
A US Islamic extremist fighting in Somalia was killed Thursday in a shootout with Al-Qaeda linked Shebab militants, former comrades he had fallen out with, witnesses said.
48 hour rule applies unless we are delivered a severed head...
Alabama-born Omar Hamami -- better known as Al-Amriki or "the American" -- was one of the most prominent foreigners fighting in Somalia, and the US State Department had offered a $5 million bounty for his capture.

"There was a gun battle between Amriki and his men and other fighters, the reports are that Amriki is among those killed," said Moalim Ali, a resident in Bardhere district.

Prosecutor refers 29 Morsi supporters to trial for police station raid
[Al Ahram] Egypt's prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat referred 29 people to criminal court on Wednesday for an attempt to raid and attack a cop shoppe in Assiut upon the state's dispersal of two-sits held by supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in August.

Investigations have revealed that the defendants, who allegedly belong to the Moslem Brüderbund, had rallied by the cop shoppe and attacked it and its security forces with Molotov cocktails and rocks.

The prosecutor's report also said that the defendants were armed and their attack led to the injury of three security personnel.

Freedom and Justice Party spokesperson in Ismailiya arrested
[Al Ahram] A spokesperson for the Moslem Brüderbund's Freedom and Justice Party in Ismailiya has been enjugged
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reports.

Khaled Lotfy was arrested on Wednesday at his workplace in the city of Fayed in Ismailiya governorate. He will be questioned about the burning of a court building in Ismailiya city by supporters of former president Mohamed Morsi on 14 August.

Lotfy will be held for 15 days while investigations take place.

The arrest is part of a government crackdown on the Moslem Brüderbund and its allies. Hundreds of big shots and members have been arrested since former president Mohammed Morsi -- a leading member of the Islamist group -- was ousted by the army on 3 July amid nationwide protests against his rule.

9 killed in car bombings in Egypt's Sinai
[Xinhua] At least nine people were killed and 17 others, including seven civilians, were maimed in two car kabooms on security personnel in Rafah city in Egypt's North Sinai, a security source told Xinhua on Wednesday.

One of the bombs targeted a military checkpoint, while the other went kaboom! outside an intelligence facility, the source said, adding that a number of buildings in the area were damaged.

Among the nine dead, seven are soldiers and two scattered bodies belong to the suspects who launched the suicide kabooms, the source said.

Armed Forces front man Ahmed Aly confirmed the attacks, saying "Islamist terrorist elements carried out a treacherous attack using two cars loaded with a large quantity of explosives."

The attacks came a day after Sinai-based Islamist bad boy group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (supporters of Jerusalem) grabbed credit for an attempt last week to assassinate Egypt's interior minister in Cairo and promised more attacks in Dire Revenge™ for the Islamists killed during the security forces' festivities with supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi after their sit-ins were dispersed a month ago.

The group called on all Moslems in Egypt to stay away from military and Interior Ministry installations to prevent from being hurt.

The security situation in Sinai has tanked since Morsi's ouster in early July. Militants have been recently launching almost daily attacks against the security forces. The army, in turn, intensified operations to uproot gunnies and hardline Jihadist movements in the peninsula.

Pakistani jailed for spying in UAE
[Dawn] A top Emirati court on Wednesday placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
a Pak man for three years for spying for a foreign country, the official WAM news agency said.

The Federal Supreme Court ruled that the Pak, who worked as a "driver at a sensitive government department," had been recruited by an intelligence officer at a foreign embassy in the United Arab Emirates.

The man had supplied photographs of meetings in the Gulf country between UAE officials and foreign delegates, WAM reported.

The Pak had confessed to having received 30,000 dirhams (more than $8,000) from the officer whom he met several times at the embassy headquarters and at the Iranian hospital in Dubai, said WAM.

WAM did not specify the country for which the defendant was convicted of spying.

The Abu Dhabi court also acquitted a second suspect, an Iranian, on trial for the same offence for lack of evidence, WAM said.

An Emirati national married to an Iranian woman was sentenced in January to seven years in jail for spying.

Iran and the UAE are in dispute over ownership of the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, which lie in the strategic Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the oil-rich Gulf.

Pressure Cooker Bomb Scare At Everett Gas Station
[CBS] EVERETT, Wash. - Police believe whoever left a pressure cooker at an Everett gas station Wednesday intended to instill fear on 9-11 with a replica of a Boston Marathon bomb.

Police say someone drove up to a gas pump at a Fred Meyer store on the Bothell-Everett Highway about 5:45 a.m. and placed the pressure cooker on the ground before driving away. An employee called 911.
That there weren't more reports of this kind of thing is interesting, since creating a fake bomb of this sort would be so easy.

I mean a marathon covered internationally, or massive buildings, maybe. But a gas station - in Everett?

More likely someone forgot to pickup their pressure cooker.

#3  These gas stations are self-serve so there is very probably a camera positions to catch the license plate of people who try to steal gas, or forget to pay (or drop of pressure cookers).

OTOH - most gas pumps now require you to pre-pay.

Once I entirely forgot to pay and, by the time I got home (about a half hour later) I was notified (by the state patrol) that I hadn't paid. Had to quickly go and pay it off. Whew!

India-Pakistan
Army, Pakistani Taliban exchange prisoners ahead of likely talks
[Dawn] The armed forces of Pakistain and Talibs exchanged prisoners Wednesday as a confidence building measure ahead of possible peace talks, intelligence officials and krazed killer commanders said.

The exchange included six forces of Evil of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and two paramilitary Frontier Corps soldiers, officials and the commanders said.

It occurred in the Shawal area of the South Wazoo tribal region. The forces of Evil were subsequently taken to neighboring North Waziristan, the country's main Taliban sanctuary.

Militants had gun sex with joy when their colleagues were freed, the intelligence officials said. The officials and two Taliban capo spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to talk to journalists.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the Pakistain army has rebutted reports of such a swap.

"Pakistain military rejected the news of any prisoner swap with Taliban, as being reported by a foreign news agency," the army spokesperson, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said in a text message to the media representatives.

Despite the denial by Pakistain's military public affairs office, the intelligence officials and Taliban capos provided the names of the forces of Evil who were freed and said the two paramilitary soldiers released were kidnapped by the Taliban in southwest Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province in March 2012.

The release occurred only days after Pakistain's main political parties endorsed peace negotiations with the Taliban and their allies Monday as the best way to end a decade-long insurgency that has killed thousands of people.

The exchange was meant to build confidence between the government and the forces of Evil before formal peace talks, the Pak Taliban capo said.

Senior Taliban leaders are currently discussing whether to take the government up on its offer to hold negotiations, said the commander and one of his colleagues.

The Taliban said they were open to talks at the end of last year but withdrew that offer in May after the group's deputy leader, Waliur Rehman was killed in a US drone strike.

Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
campaigned on a platform of holding peace talks and has maintained that line since he took office in June. He scored a victory when his stance was endorsed by other parties on Monday -- a decision that was generally welcomed by the Taliban.

But there are plenty of skeptics who doubt negotiations actually will bring lasting peace. The government has struck various peace deals with the Taliban in the past, but all have fallen apart. Critics say the agreements simply gave the forces of Evil time to regroup and continue their fight against the state.

"Not only is the path well worn, it is also a path that has on every previous occasion been attempted and led to failure, mutual recrimination and renewed bloodshed," an editorial published Wednesday in a Pak newspaper said.

The editorial also pointed out that it's unclear with whom exactly the government would negotiate. Analysts say there are more than 100 krazed killer groups operating in Pakistain's tribal region along the Afghan border with varying levels of allegiance.

"Then there is the question of just what is on the table, what is up for negotiation," the editorial said. "No iteration of the Taliban either historically or in recent years has wanted anything other than the dismantling of the democratic process, the dissolution of legislatures at the federal and provincial levels, and the imposition of their own narrow interpretation of religion."

Iraq: suicide boomer at Shiite mosque kill 35
[USATODAY] Iraqi officials say a double bomb attack on a Shiite mosque in northern Baghdad that struck as worshipers were leaving after prayers has killed at least 35.
That's a little higher than normal. Must be a Shiite holiday.
Police say more than 50 people were wounded in the Wednesday evening attack. They say it happened in a part of the Iraqi capital known as Kasra, a predominantly Shiite enclave in a part of the city that is otherwise largely Sunni.

They say a suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of the mosque, and then a car he apparently arrived in exploded nearby.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualty numbers. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information.

Troops surround militants holding 200 hostages in Mindanao
Philippine government troops reportedly have "contained" hundreds of Muslim militants who have held nearly 200 hostages and key areas of the southern port city of Zamboanga for three days, according to the state-run Philippines News Agency. However, the accounts of independent media conveyed a more dire picture of the standoff with fighters from the breakaway Moro National Liberation Front, who descended on the port Monday and opened fire on security forces.

The militants, whose operation has killed at least nine, demand the creation of an Islamic-ruled enclave on the island of Mindanao.

Government forces have established a "demarcation line" to prevent the militants from invading other areas of the city. But the rebels were reported to have taken more hostages Wednesday and had lashed about 200 into a human shield behind which they were negotiating, the Philippine Star reported from Zamboanga.

Local government Secretary Manuel Roxas II said police and army reinforcements were being brought in to drive the militants from the port, a vital transport and shipping hub that has been locked down for three days and was due to stay idle at least through Thursday. More than 13,000 residents were evacuated to prevent further hostage-taking, Roxas said. He also described the military approach to the confrontation as a "nonaggressive stance," to minimize casualties.

Zamboanga Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar said the insurgents were demanding international mediation. She said that a former governor of Sulu province, the rebels' stronghold, had attempted to talk to the gunmen but that "they refuse to listen to anybody locally."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia hands Syria chemical plan to US
[MAIN.OMANOBSERVER.OM] Russia yesterday said it had given the US a plan to put Syria's chemical weapons under international control, raising hopes of a diplomatic solution to the crisis. The move came a day after threatened US-led strikes against President Bashar al Assad's government were put on ice in response to Russia's offer to oversee Syria giving up its arsenal after Washington accused Damascus of using deadly sarin gas against its own people last month. US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
is to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva tomorrow for talks on the disarmament process that are expected to run until Friday at least. "We handed over to the Americans a plan to place chemical weapons in Syria under international control. We expect to discuss it in Geneva," Russian news agencies quoted a source in the Russian delegation to the talks as saying.

Russian officials provided no details of the plan which has effectively pushed military action off the table for the time being, although both the US and La Belle France stressed it remains an option if Syria is seen to be stalling. With the risk of an attack having receded considerably for now, Assad -- who turned 48 on Wednesday -- was free to pursue his battle with opposition coalition that has been left dismayed by the West's retreat from intervention. US President Barack Obama

has expressed optimism that the Russian initiative can lead to the removal of Syria's chemical weapons without the use of force. The switch to diplomacy was welcomed yesterday by China, which also praised Syria's offer to sign an international treaty banning chemical weapons. "We hope all relevant sides can grasp this opportunity to solve the Syria problem through diplomatic and political means," a foreign ministry front man said.

THE ON-GOING SYRIA CRISIS THUS FAR MAY BE BAD FOR US FOREIGN POLICY + CREDIBILIY, BUT IT TAINT THE WORSE THATS OUT THERE FOR AMERICA = AMERIKA.

#4  Two can play at that game.

Just agree, and then pay Jordan to deliver all the weapons.

Getting this big ball of toxic waste under control, before all the crazies take over the country, which they eventually will, is incredibly valuable.

11 dead in regime air strike on Syria field hospital
[Al Ahram] A Syrian regime air strike on a field hospital in the northern province of Aleppo killed at least 11 people on Wednesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"At least 11 people, including a doctor... were killed in an air strike on a field hospital in Al-Bab," the Britannia-based monitoring group said.

On Monday, regime air strikes hit a school in the town, in northeast Aleppo province, which was being used as a base by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant -- an Al-Qaeda affiliate.

Elsewhere, jihadists killed at least 20 civilians in the central province of Homs on Tuesday, with members of the Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front among the assailants, said the Observatory.

Fighters from Al-Nusra and another rebel group attacked three Alawite villages near the city of Homs, said the group which gets its information from a network of activists, lawyers and medics.

"Fierce festivities broke out between rebels and army troops," Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The rebels entered the village of Maksar al-Hissan and killed 16 members of the Alawite sect, the religious community to which Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
One of the last of the old-fashioned hereditary iron-fisted fascist dictators...
belongs.

They also killed four Bedouin residents of the village, the Observatory said.

Troops retook the village on Tuesday night, after festivities in which they lost two men and killed several members of Al-Nusra.

The region, which is mostly home to Alawites and Bedouin communities, has been largely free of fighting during the past year.
