Afghanistan
UPDATE: Militants Killed and Four ANSF Wounded
[Tolo News] Afghan security officials have confirmed that the clash has ended leaving the three miliants dead and four Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) maimed.

Three snuffies launched a pre-dawn attack on the Indian consulate in the western Afghan city of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
Friday morning. The staffs at the consulate are safe, according to the Indian Foreign Ministry.

Syed Akbaruddin, the official spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted confirming that the staff at the consulate are safe as exchanging of fire continues.

The turbans, armed with boom jackets and automatic rifles, started opening fire on the consulate from a nearby multi-story residential building at about 5 a.m. local time, officials said.

Two of the attackers have been killed and the third one is still fighting with the Afghan cops, the Afghan Deputy Interior Minister, Gen Mohammad Ayub Salangi told TOLOnews.

There are no casualties inflicted to the Indian personnel at the consulate and the Afghan forces who fight the myrmidons, said Mr. Salangi.

Indian consulate attacked in western Afghanistan
[DAWN] Gunmen armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades attacked an Indian Consulate in western Afghanistan on Friday, though its diplomatic staff escaped unharmed, police said.

At least three gunnies opened fire on the consulate from a nearby building in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, provincial police chief Abdul Sami Qatra said. Qatra said police and soldiers killed three assailants in a gunbattle that saw the building catch fire as authorities evacuated neighbors.

Syed Akbaruddin, a front man for India's Ministry of External Affairs, said a deployment of the paramilitary Indo-Tibetan Border Police at the consulate held off the assault until Afghan forces arrived. He said all the Indians at the consulate were safe.

''Our consulate and our diplomatic presence in Afghanistan have been under threat,'' Akbaruddin told TimesNow TV, without elaborating.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
a group called Ansar al-Tawhid that appears to be based in Afghanistan posted a video online May 17 that threatened India, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors myrmidon websites.

Herat lies near Afghanistan's border with Iran and is considered one of the safer cities in the country. In September 2013, Taliban gunnies launched a similar assault on the US Consulate in the city, killing at least four Afghans but failing to enter the compound or hurt any Americans.

Rocket attack injures 20 in Libya's Benghazi
[Iran Press TV] Twenty members of a family have been injured by a rocket that hit their home in Libya's northeastern city of Benghazi, security sources say.

The rocket slammed into the house, which was located near the headquarters of the army's special forces, on Friday.

According to a front man for Al-Huari hospital, where the injured were taken, members of the family have all suffered shrapnel wounds.

The special forces have expressed their support for retired General Khalifa Haftar, who launched an operation in Benghazi on May 16 to force powerful militias out.

At least 79 people have so far been killed in the operation.

Clashes across Egypt leave at least four people dead
[Iran Press TV] At least four people have been killed and dozens more injured after Egyptian security forces attacked anti-government protesters in yet another day of violence across the country.

Security forces fired tear gas and birdshot to disperse thousands of anti-government protesters in the Egyptian cities of Cairo and Giza, as well as across the Sinai Peninsula.

Two protesters were killed in the district of Matariya, which is located at the northern region of Greater Cairo.

Two other anti-government protesters were killed in the town of Fayoum.

Protesters held massive demonstrations across Egypt after Friday prayers, denouncing the upcoming presidential election.

They argued that the vote is farce and conducted by what they call a bloody coup leader.

Egypt's Moslem Brüderbund movement and several other political parties have boycotted the vote.

Tensions in the country have been running high since former defense minister, General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, quit his post to run for president.

Assistant commander of military intelligence murdered in Benghazi
[Libya Herald] Security agents in Benghazi yesterday found the body of Assistant Commander of Military Intelligence Hamza Al-Mahmoudi in the Gwarsha area.

A member of Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
investigations, Fadl El-Hassi, said the victim had been seized during the festivities which occurred between Ansar Al-Sharia and members of the Security Directorate on 2 May.

Hassi said that Al-Mahmoudi had been shot in the head and body by his captors.

A senior member of military intelligence in Benghazi, Colonel Kamal Bazaza, was killed in December. Eight weeks ago, another member of military intelligence was maimed when a gang attacked him outside Hawari cemetery.

A member of the military forces also survived an liquidation attempt by unidentified gunnies in Benghazi on Wednesday evening. A military spokesperson confirmed to Libya Herald that Ahmed Suleiman Al-Kori had been shot in his shoulder and his hand.

Fadia Al-Bargathi, spokesperson at Jalaa Hospital, said that Al-Kori was in a stable condition.

America sends PREDATOR drone to find Nigerian schoolgirls
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] The corpse count of the Nigeria's Islamist insurgency has risen to more than 200 in a single week after 48 people were killed in Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
raids in the country's north-east.

Militants stormed three villages near the town of Chibok, Borno State, where Boko Haram snatched nearly 300 girls from their boarding school dorm last month.

Hours after a double boom-mobileing killed at least 130 in a central Nigerian city, villagers were forced to bolt into the bush as their homes and possessions were burned and looted.

The attacks came as 80 U.S. Air Force personnel arrived in Chad, which shares a part of its border with Borno state, on a mission to help track down the girls being held captive by Boko Haram.

They are helping with intelligence by operating a Predator drone in missions over and around northern Nigeria, the U.S. said.

About 40 of the personnel make up the launch and recovering teams for the drone and the other 40 are troops acting as the security force for the team, said Lieutenant Colonel Myles Caggins.

Predators are the main type of unmanned aircraft used for drone strikes in Afghanistan and the Pak tribal areas, where they are armed with 100lb Hellfire missiles.

Although the the U.S. has said that it is being used for reconnaissance, the deployment of such a fearsome weapon seems to mark an escalation in the campaign against Boko Haram.

The deployment will be in addition to unarmed Global Hawks already being used in the search, said a senior U.S. official who preferred to remain anonymous.

Arabia
Bahrainis hold anti-government demo
[Iran Press TV] The streets of Bahrain have become the scene of more protest rallies against the ruling Al Khalifa regime as the crackdown on dissent continues.

On Friday, the village of Diraz, west of Manama, was the scene of an anti-regime demonstration to condemn Manama's iron fist approach towards dissent.

The demonstrators, angered by the regime's escalation of its deadly crackdown on protesters, honored the memory of slain protesters Abdul Aziz al-Abbar and Seyed Mahmood Seyed Mohsen.

Seyed Mohsen was fatally shot during an anti-regime demonstration on Wednesday.

Abbar died in February due to injuries he received when he was shot during festivities between the police and protesters.

Sikhs protest attacks on religious sites, desecration of holy book
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Dozens of baton-holding protestors from the Sikh community pushed past the front gate and entered the grounds of parliament on Friday, protesting recent attacks on their houses of worship.

Sikhs from Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
province had gathered outside parliament to protest against what they claimed was the alleged desecration in Shikarpur of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikh community.

Sikhs are a tiny minority in predominantly Moslem Pakistain, with most of them living in the southern Sindh province.

Senior police officer Aftab Cheema said the Sikh leaders were also protesting against several attacks on their worship places in Sindh.

The protestors demanded that the minority community be given protection to practice their religion. They demanded that the government register all their religious sites and places of worship, similar to mosques, and install CCTV cameras for surveillance and security.

The Sikhs briefly staged a sit-in on parliament's lawns, police said, before government representatives -- which included PML-N politicians Syed Zafar Ali Shah and Ramesh Kumar -- held negotiations with them.

Two brothers killed in 'sectarian attack'
[DAWN] KARACHI: Two young brothers were rubbed out in a suspected sectarian attack in Nazimabad on Thursday, police said.

The officials added that Shakir Ali and his young brother, Zulfiqar Ali, were travelling in a rickshaw when four gunnies riding two cycle of violences fired at them in Nazimabad 1 at around 11am. "Shakir sustained multiple bullet wounds and fell down while Zulfiqar abandoned the rickshaw in an attempt to escape, but the suspects chased and attacked him in a street," said Nazimabad SHO Ejaz Lodhi.

He added that the brothers were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Shakir sustained six bullet wounds while Zulfiqar suffered a gunshot wound in the chest, the SHO said.

"It appears to be an act of sectarian violence," said the SHO.

Shakir was an employee of K-Electric and Zulfiqar, a private university student.

They hailed from Jhang, Punjab, and were living in a rented house in Mujahid Colony, Nazimabad. They were on their way to Malir to get another home on rent when they were attacked, the police officer said.

The victims' bodies were being sent to Jhang for burial, said a spokesperson for the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Mohammedaneen. Condemning the murder, MWM leader Allama Baqar Zaidi said over 120 people belonging to the Shia community, including scholars, doctors, traders, bankers, lawyers and engineers, had been murdered since the beginning of the ongoing 'targeted operation' in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...

He was speaking at a presser in the Pak Muharram Hall.

Only a couple of days back, the MWM had announced that Friday would be observed as a day of protest against the "ongoing Shia genocide" in the country.

Allama Zaidi said the PML-N government had surrendered to "Saudi monarchy for $1.5 billion" and they were protecting turban groups in the name of talks instead of launching a military operation against them.

"Provincial governments are emulating the federal government and they too take no action to eliminate terrorists," he added.

French Jihadist Dies in Iraq Suicide Attack
[An Nahar] At least one French jihadist died recently in a suicide kaboom on a police post in the northern Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul

A French intelligence source confirmed the death saying the fact that the young man had crossed over to Iraq from Syria "was something new and not a general trend."

Sources said a second French national could have died in Iraq in similar circumstances and were trying to verify the information.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve recently said that 285 French citizens were fighting in Syria presently.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Two Israelis, British National Arrested In Jordan
[Ynet] Father of incarcerated
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
Israeli claims Paleostinian police officer originally from Jenin tried to take Dire Revenge™ for administrative arrests in Israel by falsely accusing three of posing as a security threat.

Two Israelis and a Brit were arrested in Jordan on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday. According to some reports, the three were released on house arrest at a hotel in Amman, while other reports say they are still in jug.

The three arrived to the Hashemite Kingdom on Monday to travel the country, relatives of one of them, a man in his 40s from the Sharon plain, told Ynet.

Itzik, the father of the second Israeli, a 25-year-old student, said his son and another friend joined a 50-year-old English friend of his to a trip to Jordan.

"Before he left for Jordan, I suggested my son and another friend go with him, because they know the Middle Eastern mentality and could get by okay there," he said.

The English friend is a collector of Iraqi currency and sought to buy some Iraqi dinars while in Amman.

"They bought 25 Iraqi dinars in bills, paid, received a receipt and went back to the hotel. At the hotel's entrance, security asked them to open their bags but they refused. The hotel management called the police, and this is how they got into trouble," Itzik continued.

After a long interrogation, the three were brought in front of a judge.

"The judge told the cops they have nothing on them, and ordered their immediate release. So one of the coppers changed his version of events and said they were posing a security risk, and got the Jordanian intelligence involved," Itzik said.

"One of the officers there, according to what I was told, has a family that originally comes from Jenin and he decided to take Dire Revenge™. They heard about the administrative arrests in Israel and decided to take Dire Revenge™," he added.

The worried father, who left for Jordan, has informed the IDF Military Advocate General, General Danny Efroni, of what had happened. Efroni then briefed the Foreign Ministry, which has been trying to act on behalf of the two Israelis, to no avail so far.

"I think if the Jordanian king knew what the coppers did he'd be shocked. If we thought Jordan was a state of law, it turns out a police officer is above the law and above judges and can do whatever he wants," Itzik said. "We're waiting for this investigation to end and for this saga to conclude."

The Foreign Ministry said the three were represented by local attorneys, and that the Israeli Embassy in Amman was monitoring the situation closely.

a third seven-year term.

His opponents have dismissed the vote as a farce.

Images shared by anti-Assad activists online purportedly of the attack showed a burst of flame on a city street at night as people ran or stood nearby. The photographs could not be independently verified.

The corpse count is expected to rise because about 30 people were seriously maimed in the attack, the Observatory said.

Chlorine gas attack in Hama province
[The Peninsula] Opposition activists have posted a video of what they say is chlorine gas floating through the streets of a Syrian village and they accuse President Bashar Al Assad of mounting a chemical weapons campaign.

Activists and medical sources said the village of Kfar Zeita, in the central province of Hama 200km north of Damascus, has been the focus of a two-month-old assault in which chlorine gas canisters have been dropped out of helicopters.

The government denies its forces have used chlorine or deadlier poisonous gases and blames all chemical attacks on rebels waging a three-year-old uprising against Assad.

The Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has opened an investigation into the alleged chlorine attacks, more than a dozen of which have been reported since April 11 in several areas.

"Inspectors for the fact-finding mission arrived in Syria last week and are trying to get to some of the sites," the OPCW said. Text accompanying the opposition video, posted by a user called Mustapha Jamaa, said it was filmed on Thursday in Kfar Zeita by the Revolution General Commission opposition group.

It showed green-yellow gas in a street. A man runs away from the gas cloud with a woman who is holding a cloth to her mouth. Another man in camouflage trousers and wearing a gas mask calls out for a car to assist the woman. A voice off screen says: "Chlorine gas bombing. Yellow smoke."

Rooters could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage. The video did not show an impact site or indicate where it was filmed.

A freelance photographer said he arrived at the scene of the attack an hour after a helicopter dropped the bomb.

"The smell of chlorine was very obvious. It smelt like vinegar, or bleach. I started to cough and hyperventilate. My eyes were burning," he said.

One of his photos showed the woman who was running away from the gas in the video. She was being treated with oxygen at a field hospital.

"There were 70 maimed people," he said. "Those who were at the impact site fainted."

Activists said Kfar Zeita was attacked twice on Thursday, as well as the village of Al Tamana'a in northwest Idlib province.
