Blast flattens police building eastern Libyan city
[Beirut Daily Star] A strong kaboom destroyed the main police building in Benghazi early Friday, nearly flattening it, days after Islamic militias overran army barracks and claimed control of the eastern Libyan city.

The police headquarters has been empty for several days after militias pounded it with shelling. The blast, which was heard across Benghazi and shook houses in surrounding area, appeared to be from explosives planted in the building, the witnesses at the site said. Police officials in Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, could not be reached.

A coalition of Islamic militias over the past week captured a number of army bases in Benghazi, Libya's second largest city, driving out troops and police and seizing large weapons stores. The fighting takes place at a time that rival militias in the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, have been battling for weeks over control of its airport.

The spiral of violence in the country's two main cities could be sparking a popular backlash, with calls for large rallies on Friday to protest against militias and demand the return of the police and military.

"It's time for a popular uprising to rescue Libya," said Abdel-Moneim al-Yassir, a politician in the outgoing parliament and head of its National Security Committee. He called for protests on his Facebook page, saying they were "the only solution ... to put an end to the situation by disarming and demobilizing militias under a national accord."

The Tripoli violence was sparked in early July when militias originally from the western city of Misrata, which are allied to Islamist politicians, carried out a surprise attack on militias from the western town of Zintan who control the airport. The move was in retaliation for a months-long campaign aiming to crush Islamic militias being waged by army troops led by a renegade general, Khalifa Hifter.

The battles have destroyed parts of the airport, and shelling earlier this week hit three oil depots, sparking a raging fire that firefighters have struggled to put out amid the continued fighting. The National Safety Agency, which oversees emergency services, said Friday that one depot is still on fire. The violence led to a mass evacuation of foreign nationals and Libyans alike and left the capital and Benghazi suffering from fuel shortages and power outages.

The fighting in Tripoli and Benghazi is seen as a push by Islamists and their allied militias to shift a longtime balance of power among Libya's many militias. The militias emerged after the 2011 civil war that led to the ouster and death of Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
. Since then, the central government, police and military have largely had no authority.

Shelling, clashes between militias resume in Tripoli
Let us hope the CIA's man conquers them all quickly.
[ARABNEWS] Heavy shelling resumed on Thursday in southern Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
where rival militia brigades were battling for control of the capital's main airport in some of the worst festivities since the 2011 revolt which ousted Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
Around 200 people have been killed since the festivities erupted two weeks ago in the capital and also in the eastern city of Benghazi, where a coalition of gunnies and former rebels have overrun a major army base in the city.

Thuds of artillery and anti-aircraft cannons echoed across Tripoli from early Thursday morning, a day after a temporary cease-fire agreed by factions to allow firefighters to put out a huge blaze at a fuel depot hit by a rocket.

Three years after the fall of Muammar Qadaffy, Libya's fragile government and nascent army has been unable to impose authority on heavily armed brigades of former rebels who have become the North African country's powerbrokers.

Most of the fighting is limited to southern Tripoli where warring factions have exchanged Grad rockets
...Soviet-developed 122-mm rockets, usually launched from trucks. Newer versions are reported to have a range of up to 30 km....
, artillery shells and cannon fire between the airport controlled by Zintan brigade fighters and enclaves of their Misrata brigade rivals.

In the eastern city of Benghazi, an alliance of gunnies and former rebels has also overrun a special forces base in the city, forcing the army into a retreat, local residents and army officials said.

Residents said there was little sign of the army or police on the ground in Benghazi on Thursday, two days after fighters from Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...

Fourth female suicide bomber hits Nigeria's Kano, kills six
[AF.REUTERS] A female jacket wallah blew herself up in a college in northern Nigeria's biggest city of Kano on Wednesday, killing six people and critically wounding another six in the fourth such attack by a woman in Kano in less than a week, a security source said.

The bomber targeted youths who were looking at a notice board for national youth service in Kano Polytechnic, the source said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, although turban group Boko Haram

, which is fighting for an Islamic state in religiously-mixed Nigeria, has repeatedly bombed Kano as it radiates attacks outwards from its northeast heartlands.

Using female suicide bombers in the city appears to be a new tactic of Boko Haram, although they have used them on occasion for years in the northeast.

Two female suicide bombers blew themselves up at a trade show and a petrol station in Kano on Monday, killing one other person and injuring at least six others.

On Sunday, a female suicide bomber killed herself but no one else while trying to target coppers.

in northern Nigeria with explosives strapped to her chest, officials said, after a woman blew herself up on a university campus, killing at least six people.

Officials said the girl was arrested when police stopped a car of suspected myrmidons. She was travelling with two 18-year-olds who attempted to run away when they were challenged, according to a government front man.

It was the fourth time in as many days that the Islamist myrmidon group Boko Haram

is thought to have used women to carry out attacks. The officials said the girl was among the youngest to be linked to the five-year insurgency.

Boko Haram, which has links to al-Qa'ida, claims to be fighting for an Islamic state in northern Nigeria. Rights groups claim it has killed at least 10,000 people in attacks, including on schools and churches, which invariably target civilians.

The 10-year-old, who has not been named, was arrested three-and-half months after Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from the town of Chibok in the remote northeast of the country.

has faced widespread criticism for his failure to rescue the students, who are thought to be held in the vast and lawless Sambisa forest. He said he would not negotiate with terrorists.

The government front man said the 10-year-old girl was found to have been strapped with an boom belt in Kano. He did not say where she was from or when she was expected to carry out an attack.

The woman who detonated her vest in Kano targeted a college campus in the city where students had gathered to check details of their summer assignments for a mandatory youth program, police said.

Officials said she detonated her explosives near a noticeboard at the Kano polytechnic at around 2.30pm local time. Isyaku Adamu, a witness, said the kaboom came from within the crush of students and left blood splattered on the ground.

The attacks came after police in the nearby city of Maiduguri had banned cars over the Moslem festival of Eid, because of fears that they would be used to carry out an attack.

Rape is often used as a brainwash method in preparing females to "volunteer" for such service, g(r)omgoru. Also no mention whether she is mentally or physically handicapped, one of the kidnapped schoolgirls or otherwise kidnapped for the purpose, and so forth. Boko Haram kills 13, injures 35 in Yobe
[SUNNEWSONLINE] Emotion was high yesterday in Potiskum town, Yobe State as residents besieged the two mosques where suspected Boko Haram

Death Eaters detonated explosive devices on Tuesday night, which killed no fewer than 13 worshippers.

Residents said a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber had targeted Mohammedan faithful observing their sunset prayers (Magrib) at Alkali Kalli Mosque, adjacent the Emir of Fika Palace in the town at about 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday..

"We just heard the loud sound of the blast and there was confusion everywhere," Abu Lawan, a resident, told Daily Sun on phone

Few minutes later, another bomb went off at Sakafa Mosque near the Potiskum Central Market, leaving splashes of blood everywhere, another resident, who did not want his name in print, said. He said 12 worshippers and the suicide bomb died, adding that many people were maimed.

Hospital sources also confirmed 13 dead bodies and 35 injured persons were brought to the Potiskum General Hospital late Tuesday night. They also said some of the injured persons might be transferred to Federal Medical Centre at Nguru in the state or Azare in neighbouring Bauchi State.

Sources said some of the residents that besieged the scenes of the blast yesterday burst into tears as many expressed concern

over attacks on worshippers at religious centres, saying the development was an ungodly act.

A source at the area also confirmed that the Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Mohammadu Ibn Mohammadu Idris, had visited the scenes of the two blasts. He was said to have condemned the attacks, describing them as callous and inhuman.

A palace source said the first-class traditional ruler also appealed to the people to be vigilant at all times.

Saudi authorities are on the hunt for dozens of citizens who have joined the group and who are based in Yemen.

Yemeni authorities had handed over 29 wanted Saudis to the Kingdom in February.

Saudi authorities launched a crackdown on the group's local branch after a wave of deadly Al-Qaeda attacks in the Kingdom between 2003 and 2006.

2 suspects of police officer's murder killed in shootout
[Dhaka Tribune] Two suspects in the case of police officer Nurul Islam's murder were killed, while one other was injured, during a shootout with law enforcers on Sunday in Mirzapur upazila, Tangail.

Sources said police acted on a tip-off and raided the residence of Azizur Rahman Babu in South Tatkia Kadma Ghonapara village toarrest Ulka, the prime suspect in the case.

Spider senses tingling at the proximity of police, Ulka and his associates shot up them, triggering the shootout.

At one stage of the shootout, Ulka was shot and died instantly around 4am, said Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Tangail Model cop shoppe.

Two of Ulka's associates — Shahed and Sagar alias Dollar — sustained bullet injuries as well, he said.

Shahed, shot in his eye, and Sagor, shot in his leg, were rushed to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to Tangail Medical College and Hospital. Of them, Shahed died on Wednesday, confirmed Saleh Mohammed Tanvir, superintendent of police.

Earlier on July 25, criminals shot and injured Nurul Islam, 30, an assistant sub-inspector at Tangail Model cop shoppe, when he was conducting a drive to arrest Ulka. He died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital the following day.

A case was filed with the cop shoppe accusing Ulka and his cohorts of Nurul's murder.

3 JMB men held; DB claims militants reorganising
[Dhaka Tribune] Detective Branch of Police personnel yesterday claimed to have nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
three members of banned Islamist organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s which remains obscure even today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB) in the capital's Sayedabad with huge explosives and bomb making materials on Wednesday night.

The DB personnel also claimed that the JMB had been trying to be reorganised in the form of International Lion of Islam organization al-Qaeda and trying to establish the philosophy of the al-Qaeda.

Besides, the activists of the banned outfit also had a plan of carrying out kabooms at Eid congregations, the DB officials claimed.

The detained JMB members were identified as Md Shameem Mahfuz alias Sumon aliasd Manring Morong, 38, of Gaibandha, Md Zahidur Rahman, 33, of Pirojpur, and Ismail Hossain, 39, of Chandpur.

At a press briefing, the DB officials claimed that during the primary interrogation the detainees told about their recent activities. They also confessed of being involved in the activities of another Lion of Islam organization named Jama'atul Muslemin earlier.

DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said: "As part of their activities, they had been active in the recruitment of faceless myrmidons in deep forest in Thanchi of Bandarban where they had also been providing training to the new recruited members as part of their preparation of carrying out attacks."

He also said the detainees had been coordinating among the faceless myrmidons in and around the capital.

"Shameem Mahfuz had been keeping close communications with faceless myrmidons who are now runaways in Pakistain and different other places," said Monirul Islam.

In a reply, he also said detained Shameem had been working as the chief coordinator and under his directives other detainees had been supplying explosives and leaflets in different places.

DB sources said all the detainees were earlier arrested different times for their Lion of Islam activities and they resumed their activities after their releases on bails.

The DB officials said the arrest was made following a long period of observation.

Imam of China's biggest mosque killed in Xinjiang
[ARABNEWS] The head of a China's largest mosque was murdered after conducting morning prayers, the local government in the far western region of Xinjiang said Thursday, amid intensifying violence in the turbulent region.

Jume Tahir, the government-appointed imam of the 600-year-old Id Kah mosque in the city of Kashgar, was killed Wednesday by "three thugs influenced by holy warrior ideology," the Xinjiang government web portal Tianshan said.

Police launched an all-out investigation and rubbed out two of the alleged assailants while capturing the other at about noon on Wednesday as they violently resisted with "knives and hatchets," Tianshan said.

Tianshan said Tahir's killing was "premeditated" and that the suspects intended to commit a "ruthless murder." It also said they wanted to "increase their influence through 'doing something big'."

Tianshan identified the suspects by their names in phonetic Chinese. The official Xinhua news agency in an English-language report gave their names as Turghun Tursun, Memetjan Remutillan and Nurmemet Abidilimit.

Neither Tianshan nor Xinhua initially identified who among them was rubbed out and who was apprehended.

Tahir was found dead in a pool of blood outside the mosque's prayer house, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported earlier on its website.

Xinjiang, home to China's mostly Moslem Uighur ethnic minority, has seen escalating violence which in the past year has spilled over into other parts of China.

RFA cited what it described as "witnesses and other officials," including the director of a neighborhood stability committee in Kashgar, who described the killing as an liquidation.

[IsraelTimes] A commander with the Lebanese Death Eater group Hezbollah who took part in the raid in which Israeli reservists Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were killed and captured was recently killed while on a "jihadi mission" in Iraq, officials in Leb said Thursday.

The officials, who are close to the Shi'ite Hezbollah, said that Ibrahim Mohammed al-Haj was killed sometime in the past week.

They did not provide any details on his mission or circumstances of his death and spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to media.

It was the first known Hezbollah death in Iraq since Sunni forces of Evil with the Islamic State captured large parts of the country north and west of Baghdad in June.

In July 2006, al-Haj was among a group of Hezbollah fighters who crossed into Israel and captured Israeli soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev before bringing them into Leb, Lebanese security officials told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. They spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

The capture triggered the 34-day Second Leb War between Israel and Hezbollah.

Iraqi officials have said that a handful of advisers from Hezbollah are offering front-line guidance to Iraqi Shiite militias fighting the Sunni forces of Evil north of Baghdad. But it is not known if — beyond the advisers — any Hezbollah fighters are fighting along Iraqi Shiite militiamen.

Last year, Hezbollah fighters openly joined Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's forces in a decision that has fueled sectarian tensions in Leb.

On Thursday, Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV aired footage of al-Haj's funeral that was held in the Lebanese eastern town of Mashghara on Wednesday. The funeral was attended by top Hezbollah officials, including the head of the group's parliamentary bloc Mohammed Raad and Minister of Industry Hussein Haj Hassan.

Al-Manar referred to al-Haj as "commander," saying he died while "performing his jihadi duties" — a term used by the group when its members are killed in action. Al-Haj's coffin, draped in the group's yellow flag, was carried by Hezbollah fighters in uniform who walked on a red carpet as a band played music.

Al-Manar said al-Haj's achievements on the battlefield had "pained the enemy," referring to Israel.

He was the second Hezbollah commander to be killed in recent months.

In May, Fawzi Ayoub, a Hezbollah military commander wanted by the FBI was killed in Syria while fighting alongside Assad's forces.

Report: Hamas Claims Responsibility For Kidnapping
[Ynet] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, confirmed that their forces captured the IDF soldier feared kidnapped Friday, but strongly contested the version of events put forward by Israel, Paleostinian news agency Ma'an reported.

The Hamas-affiliated Al-Qassam Brigades said that "there has not been any Israeli soldier in eastern Rafah for the past 20 days. But as soon as the ceasefire was announced, Israeli movement in the area began at around 2:00 a.m. (They moved) 2.5 kilometers into eastern Rafah."

"In response to that, our fighters clashed with Israeli soldiers in Rafah at 7 am, killing and injuring many."

The ceasefire came into effect at 8 pm, while Israel claims the attack took place at 9:30 am, the Paleostinians claim the incident took place at 7 am, an hour before the lull was to come into effect.

Israel Suspects Soldier Captured As Cease-Fire Collapses
[TIME] A three-day ceasefire is in tatters after an exchange of fire between Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and Isreali Defense Forces

The Israeli military believes one of its soldiers was captured as a planned 72-hour cease-fire fell apart just hours into the deal, a front man said Friday. The lull in fighting collapsed in an early morning exchange of fire that left at least five Israeli soldiers and 40 Gazoo residents dead.

"The [Israeli Defense Forces] is currently conducting intelligence efforts and extensive searches in order to locate the missing soldier," the IDF said in a statement, after Israel accused Hamas of breaking the cease-fire agreement by firing rockets on Israeli forces in southern Gazoo.

Lt. Col Peter Lerner, IDF front man, identified the missing soldier as Second Lt. Hadar Goldin, 23. Lerner said the soldier, from Kfar Saba, was captured early on Friday as the Israeli military was "implementing" the cease-fire and that two IDF soldiers were killed during the suspected capture.

Israel and Hamas both blamed one another for Friday's unraveling. The deal was brokered by U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
and U.N. Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
, and it marks at least the fourth humanitarian cease-fire to have collapsed within hours since Israel's latest ground operation in Gazoo began earlier this month.

#2  Kerry forgets that people like the kidnapped solider have brothers, sisters mothers and fathers. It is doubtful that he would have been kidnapped without the ceasefire Kerry insisted upon. #3  It is doubtful that he would have been kidnapped without the ceasefire Kerry insisted upon.

I disagree, 3dc. Hamas built those tunnels specifically for the purpose of attacking Israelis, and more particularly for kidnapping a bargaining chip. There have already been a number of thwarted attempts to kidnap Israeli soldiers alive or dead, both on Israeli soil and in Gaza; for a week they've been claiming possession of the body of a soldier taken in Gaza. This would just be the first successful kidnapping of a living soldier since Gilad Schalit.

Nonetheless, our brilliant secretary of state's words have encouraged Hamas to continue, as President Obama intended.

#11  There there is Secretary of State John F. Kerry's statement on the subject after speaking with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning. He is, perhaps, anticipating the president on this:

"Secretary of State John Kerry called on Hamas to “immediately and unconditionally” release an Israel Defense Forces soldier kidnapped in a Palestinian attack that rapidly broke what was supposed to be a 72-hour cease-fire.

“The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms today’s attack, which led to the killing of two Israeli soldiers and the apparent abduction of another. It was an outrageous violation of the cease-fire negotiated over the past several days, and of the assurances given to the United States and the United Nations,” Kerry said in a statement.

“Hamas, which has security control over the Gaza Strip, must immediately and unconditionally release the missing Israeli soldier, and I call on those with influence over Hamas to reinforce this message,” he continued.

“After the horrific loss of life in this attack and its aftermath, it would be a tragedy if this outrageous attack leads to more suffering and loss of life on both sides of this conflict. I have been in close touch with Prime Minister Netanyahu, with UN Special Coordinator Robert Serry and with other regional partners. The international community must now redouble its efforts to end the tunnel and rocket attacks by Hamas terrorists on Israel and the suffering and loss of civilian life.” "

Palestinian report: Israel breaks cease-fire, kills 3 in artillery attack
Three Palestinians were killed and 20 others were injured in an Israeli artillery attack near Rafiah that occurred just two hours after a 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire came into effect, according to Palestinian media reports.

Palestinian sources also reported that three other people were shot by IDF sniper fire in the southern Gaza Strip.

An IDF spokesperson said she was looking into the incidents.

Around the same time, a Code Red siren was heard in Eshkol Regional Council. One rocket reportedly landed in an open area.

It was not immediately clear whether the rocket fire or the alleged shelling came first.

For haven't I said so? A country can survive external onslaught - to a certain degree - but they can't survive the enemy from within (working with the enemy from outside), apology tours, amnesty etc.

Set Israel up as a pariah apartheid state internationally; agitate from outside the borders to put pressure on the government by getting the stupid liberals around the world to protest and hate Israel; begin a campaign of protests, strikes and deadly attacks on the people from within the country; stoke up the liberal Jewish and Arab university students to protest constantly from inside the country to convince the government they are hated; set up a few false-flag murders and blame the Israeli Jews, and viola!

Israel and Hamas agree to 72-hour cease-fire
[USATODAY] The United States and United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
announced Thursday that Israel and Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, agreed to a humanitarian cease-fire that is to start Friday morning for 72 hours.

In a joint statement, the U.S. and U.N. said they had gotten assurances that all parties to the conflict had agreed to an unconditional cease-fire during which there would be negotiations on a more durable truce.

The statement was released in New Delhi, where Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
was meeting with Indian officials.

Earlier Thursday, Israel had vowed to press ahead with its offensive in Gazoo, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country's military would demolish Hamas' network of tunnels "with or without a cease-fire."

Netanyahu said he won't accept any truce that will not allow Israel to achieve its goal of destroying the tunnel network it says is used to carry out attacks inside Israel. Hamas said it will only lay down arms once Israel and Egypt give guarantees that a seven-year Gazoo border blockade will be lifted.

The firm tone from Israel comes as its military called up 16,000 more reservists Thursday, in a move that may signal a widening of its military operation in Gazoo. It is not clear how many fighters bad boy groups in Gazoo have at their disposal.

Israel has activated 86,000 reserves since the conflict began on July 8 in a bid to end rockets fired by Hamas into Israel. The operation expanded July 17 to include dismantling the network of tunnels. Israel said it is no more than a few days away from destroying the remainder of the 32 cross-border tunnels it has uncovered.

Southeast Asia
New terror campaign plot for southern Thailand
Thai security agencies are on full alert after a report that nine members of a southern separatist group met in Malaysia recently to plan a series of attacks in the far South. According to an anonymous source, Masae Useng, leader of the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), held talks with eight core members at a mosque in Pasemas of Kelantan state recently to plot simultaneous terror attacks.

The source said the group planned to use militants from the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) to carry out the plot. About 150 militants, 50 in each of three provinces, would be deployed to carry out gun and bomb attacks.

The militant threat follows last week's bombing in Yala's Betong district that killed two people and injured 52 others. Col Noppadon Watcharajitbaworn, commander of 33rd Ranger Task Force, said his unit would boost border area patrols in Betong district to prevent insurgents, who are thought to have fled into Malaysia after the Betong attack, to return.

Meanwhile, authorities detained three people on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the insurgency. In Pattani's Sai Buri district, security forces sealed off two locations in search for suspects. Ahama Madeng and Brohan Majae were captured in the operations. Both of them were wanted on arrest warrants for alleged involvement in violent unrest.

In another operation in Nong Chik district, authorities nabbed suspect Hasan Satae for questioning after an initial examination showed traces of explosives on his body. Mr Hasan is a known associate of Seri Mamu, who plotted an attack on a base in Songkhla's Thepa district several years ago. Mr Seri is still at large.

A manhunt is still on for a group of militants who killed a policeman and clashed with soldiers on Monday. The brief clash left three militants dead.

Syria Jihadists Fight Kurds, Sunni Tribe
[An Nahar] The jihadist Islamic State (IS), which has taken over large swathes of war-torn Syria in just a few months, was on Thursday engaged in fighting Kurds and members of a Sunni tribe.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the well-equipped Kurds, who started fighting IS soon after it emerged in Syria in spring last year, had on Wednesday taken back several hills surrounding the city of Ain al-Arab (Kobane in Kurdish) in the north.

The IS has been trying to take over Ain al-Arab -- Syria's third Kurdish city -- and incorporate it into the Islamic "caliphate" it proclaimed last month.

The fighting killed 14 members of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (PYG) and 35 IS members. Dozens of other fighters were maimed, said the Observatory.

The fighting comes two weeks after some 800 Kurdish fighters entered Ain al-Arab from neighboring Turkey to fight IS.

There are some 3.5 million Kurds in Syria, comprising some 15 percent of the population. With the country swamped in a war that broke out three years ago, the Kurds are seeking autonomy in the areas where they are a majority.

Eastwards, the IS pounded regime positions in Hassakeh, as they tried to surround the city of 200,000 Kurds, Arabs, Armenians and other Christians.

In the eastern, oil-rich province of Deir Ezzor, most of which is under IS control, members of the Shaitat Sunni tribe fought the jihadists, tweeting about an "uprising" against the radical group.

The fighting erupted after the IS detained three members of the tribe, "violating an agreement" between the two sides, it said.

According to the Observatory, the Shaitat tribe had promised IS it would not oppose it, in exchange for the jihadists not harassing or attacking its members.

The Sunni Shaitat tribe extends across three villages -- Abu Hamam, Kashkiyeh and Ghranij.

On Thursday, a day after fighting broke out, IS members raided the three villages, searching houses and kidnapping or "detaining" an unknown number of people, said the Observatory, adding that fighting was raging in the Shaitat villages.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, the fiddler suddenly struck a sour note. The dancing stopped abruptly. Everyone looked at Bob...
IS set up new checkpoints in the Deir Ezzor countryside, but gunnies shot up one of the checkpoints.

At least five jihadists were killed in the fighting, including a Belgian.

Syria's war began as a peaceful movement for democratic change, but erupted into conflict after Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
's regime unleashed a brutal crackdown against dissent.

Many months into the fighting, foreign jihadists began entering Syria.

Also on Thursday, the Observatory reported that IS had imposed a strict dress code for women in Deir Ezzor, forbidding them showing any part of their bodies.

"Women... are completely forbidden from showing their eyes," said an IS statement that the Observatory said was distributed in areas under jihadist control in Deir Ezzor province.

Women are also forbidden from wearing "open abayas (traditional black gowns) that reveal colorful clothes worn underneath", it said, adding that women "must not wear high heels".

It threatened an unspecified punishment for women who violated the dress code, while also banning the sale of cigarettes and narguileh (water pipe) products, as well as smoking in public.

On another front in Syria's complex war, the number of people killed in army shelling on an opposition-held town northeast of Damascus on Wednesday rose to 17, according to the Observatory.

Among the fatalities were three children. Dozens of other people were maimed.

An Agence La Belle France Presse photographer in Douma, which has been under suffocating army siege for more than a year, said the shelling had hit several parts of the town, including a busy market area.

"The shelling came suddenly. One minute, children were playing in the market, the next, there were body parts and maimed people everywhere," Abd Doumany said.

The photographer also described graphic scenes at one of the town's ill-equipped field hospitals.

"The maimed were being treated on the floor," he said.

#2  The despicable Obama/Kerry diumvirate has blocked Kurdistan's oil deliveries in its failed effort to save the Republic of Iraq. The administration has publicly rejected Irbil's requests for arms. No credit (nor financing) has been given Irbil for its protection of Christians who have fled Mosul The only positive is a curiosity -- the CIA seems to be very active at its base outside of Irbil. (Shhh. don't tell anyone.)

Military Police Impersonators Abduct Citizen in Bekaa's Talya
[An Nahar] Unidentified assailants on Thursday claimed being members of the military police and kidnapped a man in the Bekaa town of Talya, only to release him shortly afterwards.

"Two men kidnapped Nicolas al-Murr after stealing jewelry he was wearing and taking some of his money," MTV reported, adding that the robbery and the abduction took place inside al-Murr's shop in Talya.

MTV said the kidnappers claimed belonging to a security body, while al-Jadeed television noted that they told their victim that they were members of the military police.

Al-Jadeed later said al-Murr was released shortly after his abduction.

Thursday's kidnapping comes as army troops and security forces have been implementing a security plan in the Bekaa, the North and Beirut.

The plan has been successful in arresting several leaders of kidnapping rings.

Hizbullah Mourns Top Official al-Hajj, Sources Say Died in Iraq

top official Ibrahim al-Hajj was laid to rest on Thursday in the Bekaa town of Qalya, as party sources revealed that the leader was killed Iraq and not in Syria's battles, which was suggested in earlier reports.

Al-Jadeed television announced on Thursday the death of al-Hajj in Iraq during his participation in operations aimed at "protecting holy shrines" there.

"Al-Hajj was tasked with training Shiite forces of several krazed killer groups, on top of them the Sayyed al-Shuhada Brigades," South Leb website noted, quoting party sources.

The sources did not reveal more information on the circumstances that lead to the Hizbullah official's death, but said that he had taken "regular trips to Iraq on security missions since the U.S. invasion of the country and the rise of a resistance against it."

"He shared military tips and his experience with the resistance in Iraq," they said, without elaborating on the number of Hizbullah deaths in the country.

"The party has lost several deaders during the American occupation of Iraq, and they were in the country on training missions," the sources said.

Websites close to Syria's opposition and others to Hizbullah had said on Tuesday that al-Hajj was killed in Syria's al-Qalamoun region.

Many Hizbullah fighters have recently died in the renewed festivities against Syrian rebels on several fighting fronts in al-Qalamoun villages, as the Syrian regime claims that it is bombing the Arsal plains "to prevent terrorists' infiltration."

Al-Jadeed, meanwhile, provided details on al-Hajj's involvement in Hizbullah operations.

"Hajj Abou Mohammed Salman — al-Hajj's nickname — took part in capturing the two Israeli soldiers in 2006 and was involved in several operations," al-Jadeed said.

He also tried to kidnap Israeli soldiers in the western Bekaa town of Kawkaba in 1999, and in 1992, he drove an Islamic Jihad

Al-Hajj stayed in the southern town of Aita al-Shaab during the July 2006 war and led several military and war activities there. He also participated in an attack on an Israeli force that was resting in a garage there, al-Jadeed said.
