[Iran Press TV] The deputy governor of Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar has been killed by an unknown gunman on his way to a university class, local sources say.
Abdul Qadim Patyal was quickly taken to hospital after he was shot on Sunday, according to Tawab Ghorzang, a local official.
Officials at Kandahar's Mirwaiz hospital confirmed that Patyal died of serious wounds he sustained in the attack.
"It is hard to believe that Patyal ... is no longer among us. Rest in peace," Ghorzang said in a post on his twitter page.

Libya Dawn, whose antigovernment has taken over Tripoli and is in control of Mitiga Airport, is at odds with Cairo because of the group's Moslem Brüderbund and Islamist links. For its part, the antigovernment has accused Egypt of having intervened in Libya's internal affairs by flying repeated Arclight airstrikes over military targets in Tripoli and in Benghazi.
Egypt has denied having carried out the Arclight airstrikes, but has openly supported the Libyan National Army, under the authority of the House of Representatives, in its fight against the hard boys, particularly in eastern Libya.
Egypt, along with the rest of the international community has repeatedly said that the House of Representatives is Libya's legitimate government and has refused to recognise Libya Dawn's National Salvation Government, although Turkey Special Envoy met with Hassi last month.
Concerned about the spread of terrorism across the border, Egypt has tightened visa rules for Libyan men and banned Libyan airline companies from flying in and out of Cairo airport. Egypt Air stopped all flights to Libya indefinitely in July when the battle for the Tripoli International Airport began.

[ARABNEWS] Two Saudi women are to stand trial this week for attempting to join Al-Qaeda after illegally infiltrating into neighboring Yemen, an online paper reported.
The women were reportedly accompanied by six children and three Yemeni smugglers, the paper said. The two women, both government employees, were known for their extreme and anti-government opinions and had reportedly tried to incite youth into joining the terror group, burnews.com reported, quoting local media.
The duo had even encouraged young Saudis on social networking sites to fight abroad and had tried to incite dissidence among women and minors, the paper said.
The two women were formally charged with inciting sedition after their Twitter accounts were found to contain calls for staging demonstrations in contravention of a previous pledge they had undertaken when placed in durance vile Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! for taking part in a protest in Buraidah, Qassim.
In the pledge, the women accepted having legal action taken against them in the event they engaged in demonstrations again, the paper reported.

[VOA News] A special tribunal in Bangladesh has handed down the death sentence to a big shot of the country's largest Islamist party for war crimes more than 40 years ago.
The war crimes court in Dhaka found Mir Quasem Ali guilty Sunday for crimes committed during the nation's independence war against Pakistain in 1971, when he was commander of the Al Badr militia forces.
The 62-year-old media tycoon is thought to be one of the top financiers of the Jamaat-e-Islami ...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... party.
He was found guilty on eight charges, including the abduction of a young man and his killing in a torture cell.
Ali's defense lawyer, Tanvir Ahmed Al-Amin, described the charges as "baseless and false" and vowed to appeal the verdict in the Supreme Court.
Bangladesh says local collaborators and Pak soldiers killed 3 million people, raped 200,000 women and displaced about 10 million to refugee camps in neighboring India during the country's independence struggle. Jamaat-e-Islami opposed independence.

[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The capital police requested Islamabad Chief Commisioner to detain three Ulema for next the four days under Section 3 of the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order-Power to arrest and detain suspected persons) here on Saturday, officials of capital administration and police told Dawn.
The officials said that two of the Ulema are from the Sunni sect while one is Shia. The three Ulema are considered to be a threat to peace during Muharram as it is feared that they may incite disturbance of law and order.
"Reply from the chief commissioner office is awaited," the officials said, adding that in the past the administration has replied positively to such requests.
Shortly after issuance of the notification from commissioner office the Ulema will be detained in their homes, they said, adding that preparations in this regard are already complete.
When asked about the identities of the Ulema, the officials chose not to respond explaining that they may get news and escape prior to their detention.

[DAWN] KARACHI: Twenty people, including women and kiddies, were maimed after two ball bombs were hurled at a haleem stall in Orangi town, DawnNews reported.
The haleem stall was targeted by unknown men on a cycle of violence who threw the bombs at the stand. Fear spread in the neighborhood soon after the attack.
Police and Rangers reached the site of the incident and cordoned off the area.
The injured have been taken to Abbasi Hospital where they are being treated for their wounds.
The cooking of haleem is a tradition during the month of Muharram and is given to mourners observing the holy month.
It may be mentioned that security has been beefed up across the country including Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. "If the blast had occurred close to the border gate, the devastation would have been far greater," Khan added.
Nonetheless, the attacker crossed four security checkpoints and was waiting for the public to gather as the flag hoisting ceremony was about to end, said Shuja Khanzada, Punjab's interior minister.
"His target was to get close to soldiers at the border but he was unable to cross the last checkpoint," he said.
Sukhera said the bomber was stopped at the gate of the parade ground. "He detonated his explosives when people gathered near the gate. Up to five kilograms of explosives and ball bearings were used in the blast," Sukhera said. "There were security threats and the border force had prior information," he said.
Ahmed Marwat, front man of al-Qaeda-affiliated Jundullah told Pakistain media including Dawn on telephone that the attack was in retaliation against Pakistain Army's Operation Zarb-e-Azb ..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)... against Lions of Islam in Wazoo.
"We received scores of bodies including of around 17 women and kiddies. Close to 100 people were maimed," said an official at Ghurki Hospital near Wagah border. Those killed were mostly civilians, with officials saying three Pakistain Rangers personnel were killed and five maimed.
Beating retreat cancelled for 3 days
Pakistain Rangers requested BSF to cancel beating retreat ceremony at Wagah border for the next three days, which was agreed to by BSF chief DK Pathak.
Journalists were told to clear out of the area which was cordoned off by coppers. An official told news agencies that the Indian side of Wagah border was "safe" after blast on Pak side.
Television footage showed shops and buildings razed around the blast crater. Rescue personnel rushed to the site with emergency declared in all Lahore hospitals.

[Iraq News] The Royal Canadian Air Force announced today that it had carried out an airstrike against ISIS targets on Thursday, October 30. A formation of CAF-18 Hornets have joined the US-led operation against ISIS by carrying out an air strike against one of the militantsâ locations.

Hulagu Khan with his Mongol and Chinese army sacked Baghdad in 1258. Tamerlane sacked Baghdad in 1401 but it was still a shadow of its former glory after the Mongol sacking.
I was always fascinated by the Moslem reverence for Tamerlane when he butchered so many of them and destroyed so many of their cities.
I forgot completely about the Moguls venture into the middle east. I will do a little research and illuminate myself. Obviously I didn't know all there was to know about this bit of history.

The bomb in Sadr City exploded near a tent used by pilgrims preparing for Ashura, when millions of Shi'ites will commemorate the slaying of Prophet Mohammad's grandson Hussein at the Battle of Kerbala in 680 AD.

Abu Sayyaf rebels killed six infantry soldiers, including an officer, in fierce clashes Sunday in Basilan province in the Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines.
Officials said the fighting erupted in Sumisip town, a known Abu Sayyaf stronghold. The soldiers were patroling Libug village when they engaged with about 20 militants triggering the gun battle that killed the soldiers.
Marine Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela said the slain soldiers were part of a team guarding a road project in the town. She said the fighting lasted some 45 minutes and described the battle as fierce. Television reports said two officers were killed in the fighting.

Yesterday I mentioned I had found several street battle videos but did not post them. This is a month old but at the 5:57 mark of this video you can hear YPJ female fighters ululating as they work with YPG fighters with RPGS who are destroying an ISIS tank. It is said that when ISIS fighters hear confident Kurdish YPJ female warriors ululate in the battle zones, ISIS fighters begin to tremble.

To the right of the tank that is a destroyed ISIS pickup with a Dushka mounted on it. The tank came up to try to take on those who destroyed the ISIS Dushka.

Nice vid Ebb. Looks like the tank got suckered into a complex attack. I was hoping the guy with the RPG would flank the T-72 and get good shot in. The cameraman [or person] had some real nads.
These rifles with the extremely long barrels in the picture below are homemade sniper rifles made by the Kurdish YPG known as "Zagros Rifles".
This is the damage Kurdish snipers are doing to ISIS via captured ISIS videos being taken out possibly by the Kurdish snipers, some believed to be using Zagros Rifles.

Get those people some artillery. And a few TOW would be nice.
How about this? We had a ton of old Dragon ATGM in depot controlled storage, if we still have them, why not package all of them up and give them to the Kurds? I'm sure the Kurds will find a use for them, and we dont have to pay for storage and eventual HAZMAT disposal. Or get the Jordanians or Thai Army to ship theirs (If they still have them in current inventory) over in exchange for Javelins (US gets weapon sales, Jordanian army get new gear, Kurds get better weapons thanm what they have... Win-Win).
The Dragon's notoriously insufficient range (for tank fighting in open country) is not an issue in these urban fights, And they could double as a bunker buster.

The development came a day after Jabhat al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ... dealt a final blow to the SRF, storming and capturing Deir Sinbal, home town of the group's leader Jamal Marouf.
