Afghanistan
Iranian soldiers attack Afghan workers on joint border in Farah
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Iranian soldiers have attacked Afghan workers along the border in Farha Province.

Dil Jan Khakrizi, acting police chief of Farah province confirming the incident said that one dead body was found while the rest of them have been moved by the Iranian soldiers.

He said further investigation is ongoing in this regard.

This is not the 1st time a violent act is taking place by Iran towards Afghans.

Iran has executed dozens of Afghans or put them in jail on different accusations during the recent years.

In 2013 about 80 Afghans were hanged by Iran on drug trafficking and other accusations.

Dozens of other Afghans have been killed unanimously in Iran.
I have no idea what they mean by "unanimously."
On one occasion, In December last year three dead bodies arrived from Iran to the Ghoryan District of western Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
who were unanimously killed in the Asfaha city of Iran.

They were a women and two minor girls unanimously killed in their home.

Also in 2014, reports indicated that Iran has sent Afghans to Syria to support Basharulasad's forces in their fight against Syrian rebels.

Al Shabaab kills local official in night raid
BARAWE, Somalia -- Somalia’s Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants killed local official in nigh raid on villages near Barawe coastal town of southern Somalia, Garowe Online reports. The planned attacks on army bases in Ambaresa and Marin-Gubay left the latter’s head dead late on Tuesday night.

The raid triggered gun-battle between Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers and Al Shabaab gunmen, residents confirmed. No casualty figures have been disclosed to the media and situation returned to normalcy.

Meanwhile, militants ambushed national army convoy on a road that leads to Barawe, former economic powerhouse of Al Qaeda’s largest franchise in the horn.

Militias retain control of Guri'el after deadly battle
MOGADISHU -- Militias loyal to the paramilitary group of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamea have again wrested control of Galgadud region town of Guri'el after deadly battle with government forces, Garowe Online reports.

National Army troops reportedly attacked the town from different directions in a bid to squeeze heavily armed militias out of the strategic town on Thursday Morning. At least six deaths form the opposing sides have been reported, with residents saying Guri'el remains under the control of Ahlu Sunnah militiamen.

On Tuesday, Ahlu Sunnah militias dislodged government troops from the town as debates over the formation of federal state in central Somalia heat up.

Galmudug, Ahlu Sunnah and Himan and Heeb agreed on push for regional autonomy during trilateral meeting in Mogadishu in July 2014.

Africa Subsaharan
Foreign Troops Kill Seven Ex-Rebels in C. Africa
[AnNahar] Foreign soldiers killed seven former rebels of the mainly Moslem Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
and placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
some 20 others in Bria in the Central African Republic, the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
said in a statement.

"The toll was seven dead, nine maimed and about 20 arrested from the ex-Seleka, while there were no victims among the international forces," the U.N. mission in CAR (MINUSCA) said in the communique obtained by AFP late Wednesday.

Fighters from the disbanded rebel coalition, which seized power in March 2013 for 10 months, were the first to open fire in Tuesday's battle as U.N. soldiers backed by French troops moved in to oust them from public buildings they had occupied for months.

MINUSCA front man Hamadoun Toure said he regretted "that such intransigence on their part cost the lives of ex-Seleka fighters" in Bria, a key mining hub in a diamond-rich central region of the deeply poor, landlocked nation.

The U.N. soldiers "met with immediate hostility from the gang, leading to determined retaliation by the international forces" during an operation aimed at "putting an end to the existence of a parallel administration", MINUSCA said earlier.

The peacekeeping troops also sought to clear the way for public consultations in Bria, where the former rebels prevented a visit in late January by a government team seeking local input ahead of a forum for dialogue and national reconciliation in the capital Bangui.

After the Seleka ousted president Francois Bozize almost two years ago in the latest coup to rock the unstable country, the CAR descended into conflict that took on an unprecedented religious dimension.

Militias were formed in largely Christian communities to avenge atrocities by renegade Seleka forces, and both sides are accused by human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
monitors of serious abuses, including killings, rape and pillage.

The presence of three international forces - La Belle France's Operation Sangaris, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's Eufor RCA and MINUSCA - has restored stability in the southern capital and some other zones, without pacifying the whole country.

Thousands Flee Niger Town After Boko Haram Attacks
[VOA News] Thousands of civilians fled their homes in the southeastern Niger town of Diffa this week, officials said Thursday, following waves of cross-border raids and suicide kabooms by the Nigerian myrmidon group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Attacks in Niger are deepening a humanitarian crisis in the remote border zone. The area, struggling to feed 150,000 people who have fled from violence in northern Nigeria, has seen about 7,000 arrive this week in Zinder, Niger's second-biggest town, about 450 kilometers (280 miles) west of Diffa.

Niger's military said its forces had killed 260 Boko Haram forces of Evil and had jugged

others in fighting since Feb. 6. A suspected local leader of the group was arrested, and rocket launchers and other weapons were seized from his home.

The International Rescue Committee, which supplied the population estimates, has teams working around Diffa and Zinder.

Matias Meier, country director, said some families in Zinder, one of the poorest regions in Niger, were having to host 20 people, while other displaced people were sleeping in a stadium.

It's a tactic. Who proclaims and defines the 'fugees or asylum seekers? I think you will find it is a huge block of sandpits and arid zones, and when the numbers overwhelm, they can declare victory.

Happening every day, an invasion.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia suspends embassy operations in Yemen
The Saudi Foreign Ministry announced Friday the suspension of all operations in its embassy in Yemen due to security fears, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

The embassy staff were asked to leave the country and return to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the ministry said, adding that the decision was made as the security and political situations in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa have been deteriorating.

Security situation has tanked in Yemen since January when the Shiite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
group seized the presidential palace in Sanaa after deadly festivities with presidential guards.

On Feb. 6, the Houthi group announced a unilateral move to dissolve the parliament and form a presidential council to take over power after Yemeni president and prime minister resigned, which was rejected by Yemen's political parties and denounced by the Gulf Arab states.

The political impasse in Yemen also promoted the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, Italia and Germany to withdraw their diplomatic staff in Sanaa, citing the security situation.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
the Houthi group said recently that Western powers had no reason to shut their embassies, insisting the security was solid in Sanaa.

Yemen rebels seize US vehicles
Sanaa - The United States, Britain and France moved to close their embassies in Yemen on Wednesday, increasing the isolation of Houthi rebels who have seized power. In a show of bravado against the Americans, the rebels seized the cars of US diplomats left at the airport on the way out.
The question, and death is not an option: is Yemen the new Libya or is Libya the new Yemen? Discuss...
At the same time, the rebels attacked demonstrators holding protests against their power grab in various parts of the capital, Sanaa, witnesses said. The fighters beat protesters and stabbed them with knives, arrested more than a dozen.

The increasing turmoil comes almost four years to the day since the start of Yemen’s 2011 Arab Spring uprising that ousted the longtime autocratic ruler but then opened a political transition that crumbled between the country’s grinding forces of tribal politics, sectarian divisions, Al Qaeda militancy and succession movements.
Nice going, Champ...
The crisis reached a new peak when the Houthis overran the capital Sanaa late last year. They have since taken over larger parts of the country. In January, the rebels put US-backed President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and all his Cabinet ministers under house arrest, leading to their resignations. Subsequently, the Houthis dissolved parliament and declared they were taking over the government.

The embassy closures were a signal that world powers see little chance the rebels’ advances will roll back soon.

More than 25 vehicles abandoned by departing American embassy staffers at Sanaa airport were seized by the rebels, according to airport officials. The rebels also took weapons that were left in the vehicles, the officials said.

The embassy’s Marine detachment, which escorted the cars, left their personal sidearms behind since they would be unable to take them on the commercial flights they were leaving on, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters in Washington. They destroyed their heavier weapons — automatic weapons and machine guns — before leaving the embassy, he said.
When was the last time Marines were ordered to leave their weapons behind?
Yemeni officials said on Wednesday that embassy staffers also destroyed files before leaving and handed over Sanaa’s Sheraton Hotel, where they resided, to the United Nations.

US officials said the embassy’s closure would not affect counterterrorism operations against Al Qaeda’s Yemen branch. Yemeni officials, however, say the move was likely to curtail US military operations in the country. Washington has long considered the Yemeni branch to be the world’s most dangerous offshoot of the global terror group.

Al-Qaeda militants seize Yemeni military base in south

Britain
Because we're not racist
[Daily Mail] Harry Connolly, 19 months, was admitted to hospital in April 2011 with sickness, diarrhoea and lethargy.

But, despite his mother Lucy's concerns about her son's condition, paediatrician Dr Tasnim Arif told Mrs Connolly, 32, she should take her son home.

Three days later, his devastated father Ray, 47, found the youngster lifeless in his cot.

Yesterday, a tribunal brought by the General Medical Council found Dr Arif guilty of a series of failings, including failing to carry out vital checks before discharging Harry.

But, despite objections from the GMC, the tribunal ruled that Dr Arif was still fit to practise, after clearing her of other charges. They also refused a plea from the GMC to put a warning on Dr Arif's file.

A senior police official told Dawn the suspect, Nadeem Yousaf, was arrested from Bhoosa Godown in Ratta Amral area and taken to Adiala Jail for 30 days. His detention orders were issued by Rawalpindi district coordination officer. The police claimed that Yousaf has links to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

Earlier, he had been arrested in 2007 following the gun attack on the airplane carrying former president Pervez Musharraf. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
in the same year, he was released by the court on the basis of lack of evidence, the officer said.

Yousaf's arrest is part of the fresh crackdown against Lions of Islam launched on Tuesday. According to security sources, four suspects from Rawalpindi district and two from Jhelum have been detained since the crackdown was launched.

On Tuesday, across the province, the police began action against banned outfits. The activists of these outfits have been placed on the terror watch list under the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA).

In Rawalpindi division, the police had been asked to arrest 43 individuals listed as hardcore activists of the banned outfits. These include 22 from Rawalpindi and seven each from Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal. According to security sources, most activists on the watch list have gone into hiding since the crackdown was launched.

to blast their way into the Ain al Assad airbase, 35 kilometers northwest of the Anbar Province capital of Ramadi.

More than 300 U.S. military personnel are stationed at the base to train Iraqi Sunni tribal fighters.

The stategic Iraqi military base had been surrounded by IS Lions of Islam for weeks.

Iraqi media reported that the Lions of Islam fired a wave of Katyusha rockets and mortar rounds before the jacket wallahs attacked the base. An Iraqi Army official said eight suicide bombers were killed without penetrating the base perimeter.

Islamic State Lions of Islam and other Death Eater groups are increasingly using multiple suicide kabooms to breach base defenses in both Iraq and Syria. IS previously attempted to blow through the outer walls of a Syrian government airbase in Deir ez Zor, but without success.

holy warriors took control on Thursday of most of the western Iraqi town of al-Baghdadi, threatening an air base where US Marines are training Iraqi troops, officials said.

Al-Baghdadi, about 85 km (50 miles) northwest of Ramadi in Anbar province, had been besieged for months by the radical Sunni Islamist Lions of Islam who captured vast swathes of Iraq's north and west last year.

"Ninety percent of al-Baghdadi district has fallen under the control of the Lion of Islams," district manager Naji Arak told Rooters by phone. Militants attacked al-Baghdadi from two directions earlier in the day and then advanced on the town, intelligence sources and officials in the Jazeera and Badiya operations commands said.

The officials said another group of holy warriors then attacked the heavily-guarded Ain al-Asad air base five km southwest of the town, but were unable to break into it.

Syrians forcibly donate blood for injured ISIS militants in Raqqa
[ARA] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group (IS/ISIS) forced civilians in Raqqa to donate blood to the group's bully boys, Syrian activists reported on Wednesday.

The Islamic State called on the residents of Raqqa in northeastern Syria to donate 0.5 kg of blood in private hospitals in the city, amid increased numbers of injured bully boy fighters from the group under Arclight airstrikes by the international coalition.

A local media activist told ARA News in Raqqa (under the condition of anonymity) that donating blood was done previously on a voluntary basis, pointing out that at the beginning of 2014, the number of donors reached dozens, especially during the pro-regime Arclight airstrikes that targeted civilians, where people spontaneously responded to calls for blood donation.

The IS hardline group is treating its patients and injured turbans in private hospitals, so as not to reveal corpse counts in battles or the number of those who fell during raids by the U.S.-led international coalition, the source added.

The exact number of casualties in the IS ranks remain unknown as the group avoids announcing any statistics in an attempt to hide any aspects of weakness from their enemies.

Local activists reported that the radical group, through such a tactic, is trying to maintain its image as a strong organization with high military capacities.

Commenting on the event, a Syrian Kurdish journalist news hound of al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper, Jiwan Soz, told ARA News: "Forcing civilians to donate blood is prohibited and inhuman, especially since the IS group does so randomly, regardless of the type of blood."

"The group is drawing blood in a primitive way without using the medical tools necessary for this process," Soz added.

"Civilians in Raqqa should donate blood through doctors, who do not deal with the IS radicals, in order to safeguard themselves from any danger they may be subjected-to in the future."

Notably, the IS restrictions against civilians increased in the last few weeks, especially after their expulsion by the Kurds from Kobane (Ain al-Arab) in the province of Aleppo, and the intensified strikes by the U.S.-led coalition forces on the group's major locations in Syria and Iraq.

group (IS/ISIS), the Syrian regime military forces took over several villages and continued advancement in the countryside of Hasakah province, in northeastern Syria, local sources reported on Thursday.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, civil rights activist Dilovan Mohammed said that fierce festivities broke out Wednesday evening between pro-Assad forces ‐backed by gunnies of the National Defense Army‐ and the IS group in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

"The pro-regime forces continued their advancement in the southern countryside amid remarkable IS decline under the weight of heavy shelling by regime's army, along with aerial bombardment launched by the U.S.-led international coalition on IS locations in western Abdulaziz Mount in Hasakah," Mohammed added.

At least one IS member was killed during festivities with regime forces near Bab al-Khair village south of Hasakah, amid news of several injuries in the ranks of the regime forces.

This coincided with battles between the People's Protection Units (YPG) and the IS radical group in the southern countryside of Qamishli (Qamishlo) city, in Hasakah province.

The YPG Media Center announced Wednesday that their fighters carried out a strategic operating near the villages of Masush and Gnamira (25 km south of Qamishli) and they were able to destroy an IS armored vehicle, killing its entire crew.

Noteworthy, the Syrian regime forces had seized 16 villages in the countryside of Qamishli and Hasakah cities, following fierce festivities with bully boyz of the Islamic State last Friday.

Jordanian air force jets resume bombing raids against ISIS
[Jpost] Jordanian air force jets bombed Islamic State militants' hideouts on Thursday, state television said, resuming the intensified raids that ended at the weekend after three days.

"The airforce has bombed and destroyed select targets of the Daesh criminal gang this afternoon," it said. "Daesh" is a derogative term for the militants.

The raids are the first the Jordanian military have announced since three straight days of aerial bombing that ended on Saturday in retaliation for the killing of a pilot.

UAE air force jets that arrived in Amman this week started raids against Islamic State militants in Syria on Tuesday.

#2  Methinks it is only a matter of time and logistics before Jordan jumps in with both feet.

King Abdullah clearly recognizes that his head will be on a gate post if ISIS is not destroyed. The sooner the rest of the ME recognize that ISIS is off the leash of whoever funded them, the sooner you will see some serious action.

As for us? We will continue to reluctantly semi-involve ourselves in the conflict preferring to be nuisance and complex in our thinking.

ISIS militants execute four civilians in Syria's Manbij

group sentenced four civilians to death in the city of Manbij in Aleppo province, in northern Syria, hanging them in a public square downtown.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, one of the victims' family members said (under the condition of anonymity) that four civilians from Manbij were captured by the IS group and executed in the city's square after receiving information about their links with rebels of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA).

"Actually, they have nothing to do with any organization or party, but they have some friends belong to the FSA rebels," the source argued.

The Islamic State gunnies refuse to hand over the bodies of the executed people for their families.

Haitham Ali, one of the residents, told ARA News that the IS gunnies began using means of incapacitating and intimidation against locals, and the started executing civilians for no reason.

"Those practices merely reflect the barbarism of this group and its bad boy members," he said.

Ali pointed out that the group imposed permanent curfew in the city of Manbij where the gunnies banned people from getting out of their houses after 6:00 P.M.

In Iraq, the Islamic State turbans carried out on Wednesday, in front of a large crowd of people, the hand cut sentence against three people from the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, local sources told ARA News, pointing out that the IS members carried out the punishment in Bab al-Tob area, justifying their action under different arguments and excuses.

An informed source in Mosul, who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity, said that the IS group cut off the hands to three people for allegedly having stolen money and a gold jewelry belonging to the wife of a disabled man, and they have been discovered later in the Syrian city of Raqqa.

"They were intending to flee to Turkey, but they soon have been incarcerated

and handed over to the Islamic court in the state of Nineveh in northern Iraq," the source said, adding that the group has transferred the victims (whom their hands were cut off) to the hospital to receive treatment.
