Adenuga, Governor Bello, late Ooni of Ife, Andy Uba named in latest Panama Paper leak
[DAILYPOST.NG] More prominent Nigerians and companies with hidden assets in Panama, a tax haven were on Thursday made public.

According to a leaked internal data of the Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonsecca, no fewer than 110 Nigerians and companies have been accused to have stashed fortunes in Panama in a bid to avoid taxes, Premium Times reports.

The newspaper had listed some prominent personalities contained in the current list to include, the owner of telecommunication giant, Globacom, Mike Adenuga; Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sadiq Sani Bello and the late Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuwade, Chairman of Arik Airlines, Joseph Arumemi-Johnson and his wife, Mary, as well as two serving senators, Andy Uba from Anambra, Ibrahim Gobir, Sokoto among others.

Since Mossack Fonsecca made the revelation of people with fortunes in the British Virgin Island of Panama and Seychelles on April 3, 2016, names of prominent Nigerians have continued to be linked to the list.

A rundown of Nigerians so far linked to the data base according to the newspaper include, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote; President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki; convicted former governor of Delta State, James Ibori; the boss of Oando, Nigeria’s biggest indigenous oil firm, Wale Tinubu, and popular televangelist, Prophet T.B. Joshua who debunked the claim.

Some of the Nigerians linked to the list are public office holders which is in violation of the Nigerian law, having failed to declare their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

The unprecedented year-long investigation involving 11.5 million secret documents which stretched from 1977 to December 2015 exposed the hidden underground of the world economy, a network of banks, law firms and other middlemen that use shell companies, sometimes to hide illegal wealth.

The latest on the CIA's weaponized cancer virus that infected Hugo Chavez
[Venezuelanalysis] There was another, lesser-known plot against Chavez discovered in New York City during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2006. According to information provided by his security services, during standard security reconnaissance of an event where Chavez would address the US public at a local, renowned university, high levels of radiation were detected in the chair where he would have sat. The radiation was discovered by a Geiger detector, which is a handheld radiation detection device the presidential security used to ensure the President wasn't in danger of exposure to harmful rays. In this case, the chair was removed and subsequent tests showed it was emanating unusual amounts of radiation that could have resulted in significant harm to Chavez had it gone undiscovered. According to accounts by the presidential security at the event, an individual from the US who had been involved in the logistical support for the event and had provided the chair was shown to be acting with US intelligent agents.

#1  People usually SIT in chairs. And the locus of the focus of the radiation was aimed at where Chavez was going to place his fundament, I assume.

How Fu Manchu.

#2  And the clowns that lap this up really believe Hugo was the top target of the CIA?

I mean the feared, hypothetical American CIA, not the real CIA.

16-year-old girl set on fire as 'punishment' by Abbottabad jirga
[DAWN] ABBOTTABAD: The chilling murder of a 16-year-old girl strangled and set on fire in Galyat's Makol village has been linked to the orders given by a local jirga last week, police said Thursday.

Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
police said a 15-member jirga called by the Makol village councillor Pervez ordered for the dear departed, Amber, to be killed and set on fire as punishment for helping her friend escape the village to marry of her free will. Thirteen members have been tossed in the calaboose

and due to appear before an anti-terrorism court, including the victim's mother, said police.

When the jirga ended after a six-hour meeting on April 28, the girl was taken from her home to an abandoned house where she was drugged, killed, and placed in the backseat of a parked van. The van was then doused with petrol and set on fire.

The charred body of the teenage girl was found in a torched Suzuki van in Donga Gali on Friday. Police recovered the drugs from the abandoned house near the site, as well as the can of petrol used to start the fire.

The body was tied to the seat of the vehicle, which was parked at a bus stop in the village. Another vehicle parked near the gutted van was also damaged. Police moved the body to Ayub Medical Complex for his appointment with Doctor Quincy.

The girl was later identified as the daughter of Riasat, a labourer who works in Balochistan

’s Gadani area.

A police official told Dawn that the fire on the bus had occurred at 3am.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Khurram Rasheed, a couple eloped and left Makol April 23 for Abbottabad with the girl’s help and a driver named Naseer. A jirga was called at Naseer’s home when the couple could not be found.

DPO Rasheed said the case will be tried by an Anti-Terrorism Court and "exemplary punishment" will be recommended by the police.

Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) MPA Shaukat Yousafzai told DawnNews "strict action" will taken against the jirga which ordered the brutal ruling. "This is not a part of KP's culture," he said.

"This is the first time an incident of this type has taken place."

He hailed the role of the local police for solving a case "that shook the entire Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
" and lauded them for taking the investigation forward in a professional manner.

A jirga is a local community council composed of local elders and notables and a traditional dispute resolution forum.

Khamenei speech leads to Iranian ban on American cars
[RFE/RL] Iran has stopped importing American-made cars after a speech by Supreme Leader Khamenei criticizing them. Although American car manufacturers have been barred from selling cars directly to Iran for decades, Tehran previously had allowed 24 models manufactured by Chevrolet, to be imported through other countries.

The new ban on such imports was imposed on May 1 after a speech by Khamenei on April 27 questioning why Iranians should drive American cars at all. He said, "Americans themselves don't use U.S.-made cars. We have seen this reflected in American media. They argue that fuel consumption is high and the cars are heavy."

GM said that it had no plans to enter the Iranian market anyway. While most Western countries lifted economic sanctions prohibiting the sale of cars to Iran in January, the U.S. continues to bar most commercial ties with Tehran, a GM spokesman said, and the company will continue to honor those sanctions.

Tehran has been in talks to set up joint manufacturing plants inside Iran with major European automakers, including Fiat, Mercedes Benz, Peugeot, Renault, and Volkswagen.

High School on the Hudson: Your 'raised fist' tax dollars at work
[Wash Times] The United States Military Academy at West Point said Wednesday that an investigation is underway regarding a photograph that shows 16 black cadets in uniform posing with their fists in the air.

"We can confirm that the cadets in this photo are members of the U.S. Military Academy’s Class of 2016," West Point’s director of public affairs, Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker, told Army Times on Wednesday. "Academy officials are conducting an inquiry into the matter.

John Burk, an Army veteran who served in the Iraq War before launching a popular fitness website, accused the 16 female cadets photographed in the picture of aligning themselves with the Black Lives Matter movement by posing with their fists raised -- a gesture that indeed has been adopted by the protest movement, as well as other, unrelated groups for centuries.

#1  No worries LTC Kasker. While they should all be immediately expelled and barred from further military service, we know nothing will come of this. It is a very sad day for a proud institution.

#3  "....dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

The famous author did not use the word 'fact, he used the word 'proposition' which is a statement or assertion that expresses a notion, a judgment or opinion.

The notion is flawed, and I can easily use my own humble human experience as evidence. The lie however, will be sustained and round pegs will continue to be placed in square holes, standards will be shunned, and playing fields lowered, all in the name of the egalitarian myth of fairness and equality.

The obvious upside, to overcome the system, a few within those not selected for preferential treatment will strive and achieve even greater accomplishment. Superior accomplishment however, will only serve as a salvation until the test sample is flooded with preferentials or the 'accomplished' begin to be viewed as the illegally privileged and are forced to go elsewhere.

These are indeed interesting times.

#4  "....dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Equal in the eyes of the law regardless of birth or status, not equal in innate ability, drive, or opportunity. Those who demand equality of outcome require inequality in the eyes of the law, ignoring individual ability and effort.
