'Fuck you, Instructor Buchanan -- fuck you. The only way you’re getting me out of here is in a body bag.'
It was the middle of "Hell Week," a full week of physical and mental torture that all trainees must endure in order to become a member of the Navy SEALs -- the most elite special forces unit on the planet.
Webb had come in with far worse physical conditioning than everyone else. And he had a bit of an ego. Not a good sign. The instructors wanted him gone.
Despite the odds (only 1 in 7 of trainees make it through) and the "special" treatment from instructors, Webb went on to become an accomplished Navy SEAL sniper.
Why did Webb succeed where so many others fail? ...continued @ link...
[Guardian] When Dina Gold began searching for the Berlin property seized from her family by the Nazis in the 1930s, she had little idea she would unearth a dark secret ‐ how the SS paid millions in premiums to insure a key part of Auschwitz and other death camps to what is still one of Germany’s top insurance companies.
Gold, a former BBC reporter now living in Washington, wrote earlier this year about her quest to find the massive Berlin building that had housed the headquarters of fur traders H Wolff, owned by her grandparents, which was taken over by the Nazis in 1937, four years after Adolf Hitler came to power.
Stolen Legacy related how her search was prompted by the stories her grandmother, Nellie Wolff, told of her family’s life in pre-Nazi Germany and how they had owned a huge building in the centre of Berlin, which served as the headquarters of their successful business. Nellie died in 1977, leaving nothing to help locate the property or prove its ownership. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, Gold set out to find the truth.

Come to think of it, none of this makes sense. Why would the all-powerful SS pay premiums -- unless of course there was a kick-back to Himmler and his leadership.

...It's a matter of record that after Kristallnacht - which would have bankrupted several German insurance companies - Reichmarschall Hermann Goering sat down with the heads of all the German insurance companies and explained to them how it would work: They would only have to pay about half of what they owed, and an appreciable portion of that would go to him. There was some argument, but only to the extent that the insurance companies thought they were still paying too much.
With that in mind, I have no doubt that - especially once the war started - the companies happily cooperated.

How does the SS, repeat the SS, paying premiums have anything to do with CONTROL? This seems to have been a kickback scheme pure and simple.

Imagine you are one of the anti-Trump folks who believe we just elected a racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-semitic, science-denying dictator. Let’s say that’s the movie playing in your mind. That’s some scary stuff.
...As Trump continues to demonstrate that he was never the incompetent monster his critics believed him to be, the critics will face an identity crisis. They either have to accept that they understand almost nothing about how the world works ‐ because they got everything wrong about Trump ‐ or they need to double-down on their current hallucination. Most of his critics will double-down. That’s how normal brains work.
And that brings us to our current situation. As Trump continues to defy all predictions from his critics, the critics need to maintain their self-images as the smart ones who saw this new Hitler coming. And that means you will see hallucinations like you have never seen. It will be epic.

(I hope) its kinda like when a head is moving in one direction, stops suddenly so that the brain inside sloshes forward, then the head rebounds in the reverse direction from the impact and strikes another surface causing the brain to slosh in the other direction.

I read this on Insty earlier. The underlying assumption, mistaken IMHO, is that these people will ever recognize that Trump is defying their predictions.
Their predictions are gospel and nothing he could possibly do, other than surrender totally to the socialist ideal, would ever be recognized as being anything other than proof of his r,s,h,a-s,s-d dictatorial evil.
You can, IIUC, be subject to congnitive dissonance if you are capable of recognizing reality outside of your hallucinations. They can't.
There "reality" is impervious to anything external to their mental constructs.

Have you ever had someone tell you that Socialism is fluffy bunnies, rainbows, and dancing unicorns? Any Real Life counter example is waved off as being something other than True Socialism(c).
[Washington Examiner] Former presidential hopeful Rev. Jesse Jackson called on Americans to celebrate the life of Fidel Castro, calling the deceased Cuban dictator a "freedom fighter" and "poor people's hero."
In a Saturday evening statement, the civil rights leader urged the nation to join "oppressed people" across the globe in celebration of "the life of a liberator who fought and won against the rich and oligarch rule of [former Cuban President Fulgencio] Batista."
Cuban television announced the death of the 90-year old dictator late Friday evening. Response to the news was dramatic and diverse, triggering tears in Ottawa, Canada as well as dancing in the streets of Miami, Florida.
The response from Washington was mixed. A hesitant President Obama offered his condolences to Castro's family while President-elect Trump celebrated the news, describing the deceased as a "brutal dictator."
Jackson was unwavering in his support for the controversial Cuban leader, who is accused of murdering tens of thousands of political dissidents. After trips to Havana and Harlem, the two could even be described as friends.

That's the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who claims to be an man of God, celebrating the life of an atheist, communist, dictator who stole from his people and imprisoned them and oppressed them.

Worthless fucking hypocrite. I'll be popping champagne when you kick the bucket too, asshole.

Notice that the people who actually LIVED under Castro, but managed to escape, are celebrating. Only people who saw only the parts of Cuba that Castro allowed them to see are mourning.
