Afghanistan
Afghan troops battle Taliban offensive in Helmand province
LASHKAR GAH: Afghan forces said they were holding off a Taliban offensive in Helmand province on Tuesday, as reinforcements and air support arrived.

Both sides reported heavy fighting as Taliban militants attacked government positions in Sangin district, an area where insurgents have made major gains in the past two years.

"There is heavy fighting still ongoing between the Taliban and our forces but those places that were captured by the Taliban yesterday have been taken back," said Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the governor of the southern province.

Among the reinforcements sent to the embattled district were new commando units, he said.

A regional Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said fighters had captured at least 25 government checkpoints and killed more than 100 soldiers and police.

The Taliban used tunnels dug from houses to attack the government's front-line checkpoints, General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, commander of the 215th Army Corps, said on Monday.

Army officials said they had killed at least 19 Taliban and wounded 25.

British, American and other international forces battled the Taliban in Helmand for years after the ouster of the militant group from power in late 2001. Sangin and other districts saw sustained heavy fighting.

The Taliban have made gains in several parts of the country since most foreign combat troops withdrew from Afghanistan at the end of 2014.

The US-led coalition has redeployed hundreds of troops to Helmand, however, to train and advise Afghan forces, as well as provide occasional air support.

Navy says people-smugglers fired on coastguard vessel
[Libya Herald] A Libyan coastguard vessel was reportedly shot at from the shore by people-smugglers as it intercepted 700 migrants colonists off Sabratha.

Naval front man colonel Ayoub Qassem told AFP that, as the coastguard vessel closed with the two wooden vessels onto which the migrants colonists had been crammed, it came under fire from people-smugglers on the beach.

The coastguard reportedly returned fire and the smugglers fled. There were apparently no casualties among either the coastguards or the migrants colonists, who were described as mostly being sub-Saharan Africans.

It seems possible that the people-smugglers may have actually launched the attack from one of their own vessels since Qassem was also quoted as saying that the incident had taken place three nautical miles from the coast.

The relationship between the coastguard and the smugglers has at times appeared ambiguous. Last October a vessel with coastguard markings was filmed from a rescue ship attacking a raft with migrants colonists and apparently trying to seize its outboard motor. Panicking migrants colonists capsized their craft and as many as 20 may have drowned. The navy denied that one of their vessels had been involved.

Equally the people smugglers have been prepared to work with the authorities. Last May one gang called the coastguard to warn them that a migrant vessel was sinking.

"A girl of around 10 came by the military barracks and was trying to cross the road into the IDP (internally displaced persons) camp," he told AFP. "She was asked to stop by soldiers. But she ignored them. They threatened to shoot her if she didn't stop. She obeyed and she was asked to lift up her hijab.

"She did and explosives were found to be strapped on her. Suddenly she pulled on the trigger and went kaboom!."

No-one else was injured, said Ahmad, who added it was the second attempt on the camp in recent weeks. On January 18, a young woman and a teenage boy were shot when they refused to stop for a search and went kaboom! just outside the camp, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least one person was killed when a jacket wallah went kaboom! at a mosque at Dalori, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, during morning prayers, residents and the authorities said. Shuaibu Abubakar said the blast happened at about 5:30 am (0430 GMT) as a suicide bomber tried to enter the place of worship.

"One of the worshippers, who was apparently on guard, grabbed him and the explosives went off, killing both of them. Worshippers were saved," he said.

Tens of thousands of people displaced by the conflict are currently living at two camps set up at Dalori.

Arabia
Houthis Target UN Building in Dhahran Al-Janoub
Houthi militias and those loyal to the ousted president Saleh yesterday targeted a United Nations building in Dhahran Al-Janoub which is located in Saudi Arabia’s Asir region. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the UN De-escalation and Coordination Committee building came under fire from Katyusha shells fired by Houthi militias and those loyal to Saleh.

A member of the armed forces in charge of guarding the building Fahad Ayed Al-Shamrani was injured in the attack and he was taken to Dhahran Al-Janoub public hospital. The building’s front walls and entrances and a number of cars belonging to members of the public and the diplomatic mission were damaged.

The UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed condemned the Houthi militias for targeting the United Nations’ building in Dhahran Al-Janoub, Asir region.

al-Qaeda Yemen Top Kop dies in Lahj
ADEN: Yemeni security forces killed an Al-Qaeda leader in the province of Lahj during a raid on Tuesday, police said.

Ammar Qaid, known as Al-Qaeda’s “emir” in Lahj, was killed in an exchange of fire with “counter-terrorism” forces after refusing to surrender, said provincial police chief Saleh Sayed.

The raid in the provincial capital Huta was carried out as part of a vast operation backed by an Arab military coalition against the jihadists in Aden, Abyan and Lahj, in southwestern Yemen.

They are three of five provinces under the control of government forces at war with Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels.

In southern Hadramawt, meanwhile, suspected Al-Qaeda militants shot dead policeman Ali Al-Bekri on Monday night in the town of Qotn before fleeing, a security source told AFP.

In the north of the country, heavy clashes on Monday killed 21 loyalist soldiers and seven rebels in Midi and Haradh, military sources said.

The pro-government forces had come under fire in a minefield as they advanced, said one source.

Yemen’s long-running conflict escalated in March 2015 when a Saudi-led coalition began bombing raids against the Houthis who had stormed the capital and taken swathes of central and northern territory.

Around 7,400 people have died in air strikes and clashes since then, the UN says, and aid agencies have warned of an impending humanitarian crisis in the Arab world’s poorest nation.

US: Female Al-Qaeda combatants killed in Yemen raid
More on this story from a few days ago.
[AFP] US special forces who led a rare ground assault against Al-Qaeda in Yemen over the weekend killed women fighting alongside male troops, the Defense Department said Monday.

"There were a lot of female combatants" in Sunday's battle, said Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis. "Female fighters ran to pre-established positions as though they had trained to be ready."

The US special forces mounted the raid in the Yakla region of Baida province against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which Washington views as the global terror network's most dangerous branch.

A US service member was killed during a firefight and three others were injured in a hard landing of a V-22 Osprey military aircraft nearby, Davis said. On the AQAP side, 14 fighters, including women, were killed, according to the Pentagon. The jihadist militant group said nearly 30 people were killed, including women and children.

The Pentagon declined to say whether children were among the fatalities and stated that the death toll was still being evaluated.

The operation, which President Donald Trump said "will assist the US in preventing terrorism against its citizens and people around the world," was the first major US military action in Yemen since he took office on January 20.

According to the Pentagon, it was aimed at gathering information, using a lightning raid by special forces to seize the maximum amount of documents, computers or other electronic devices before pulling back. The US military notably wants to be able to improve intelligence on AQAP operations after the militants redeployed to the interior of the country after being chased from the coastal areas between Mukalla in the southeast and Aden.

The raid authorized by Trump was in preparation for some time and former president Barack Obama was aware of it, the spokesman said.

"There were operational reasons to why it did not happen, say, two weeks ago," when Obama was still the commander-in-chief, Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said.
No doubt.

Arwa Baghdadi: Saudi woman who joined al-Qaeda killed in Yemen

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Saudi woman who fled to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
last year to join al-Qaeda has been killed in a US raid, sources to Al Arabiya confirmed.

Arwa Baghdadi was killed during the US military Arclight airstrikes on the Yemeni village Yacla, sources said, but did not reveal the fate of her two sons.

Baghdadi was killed a short distance away from where eight-year-old Nawar al-Awlaki was killed. Nawar was the daughter of a US-born Yemeni murderous Moslem preacher who was killed in a dronezap by the B.O. regime.

Issam Taher, Baghdadi’s father declined to comment on her death. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
Nizar Taher, one of the brothers of Baghdadi, told Al Arabiya English he was flabbergasted by the news, saying: "I didn’t know. We didn’t hear anything. It’s sad. Despite our differences, she was so precious and she had a good heart."

Nizar stressed that he had no communication with his sister since she moved to Yemen, noting that his parents also lost contact with her due to the internet and network blackouts.

On the issue of his sister’s murderous Moslem beliefs, he asserted: "My sister was among those who were affected by the speeches calling for the toppling of the regime of infidels. She got carried away, like many others, especially after the events of September 11, 2001."

Baghdadi, 35 years old, had a bachelor’s degree in Islamic culture. Before leaving Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Baghdadi was out on bail, awaiting trial on terrorism charges.

I am wrong about something, nearly on a daily basis these days, but it is quite difficult for me to believe these brave lions of islam all fought to the last man.

I would rather think that at least a few were taken captive and flown back to the magic kingdom (or elsewhere) for extensive consultations. Once again, there can be much truth and discovery in the unspoken, or events overtaken by....other events.

Note also the vagaries in EKIA reporting.

Iraq
Mosul Offensive News
ISIS attack stopped in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces fought off an attack by Islamic State in northeastern Mosul, while an IED explosion killed three children in the western region, military and security sources said Tuesday.

Major Ali Mohsen, form the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Forces, was quoted by Bas News as saying that Islamic State militants carried out a wide-scale attack on the villages of Geliokhana and Rashidiya, northeast of the city, which were among the last few regions security forces recaptured from the extremist group in the east.

“The group launched the attack using suicide bombers and booby-trapped vehicles,” said Mohsen, who added that army forces, backed by aircraft from the U.S.-led international military coalition, managed to hold them off.

Security forces intensified their deployment in the area after the attack, said Mohsen, who added that forces are also besieging villages in the west preparing to invade them.

In western Mosul, a local source said three children were killed when an explosive device planted by Islamic State militants in their home exploded.

The source, who asked not to be named, told Alsumaria News that the house belonged to a security agent who had previously been executed by IS militants two years earlier. “It was booby-trapped a while ago by the group as part of its strategy to booby-trap houses as security forces near launching operations to retake western Mosul,” said the source. “The reason the children entered the home is still a mystery,” he added.

The Iraqi government said on January 24th its forces became in full control over eastern Mosul after three months of battles with IS. Preparations are running to invade the group-held west.

Iraqi airstrikes targets ISIS boats, 17 ISIS fighters die

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi fighter jets killed 17 Islamic State militants and destroyed six of their boats in western Mosul, the defense ministry media said Tuesday.

The defense ministry’s War Media Cell said the strike, which targeted the district of Badush, was carried out based on intelligence information. Six vehicles belonging to the group were also burned in the strike, according to the media service.

The Iraqi government said on January 24th its forces, backed by U.S.-led international coalition jets and advisers, recaptured the whole of eastern Mosul from Islamic State militants after three months of battles that left 3300 extremists killed. The forces are preparing to invade the west where the extremist group still maintains a majority of territory near its strongholds in Syria. Iraqi and U.S. generals are predicting a more difficult battle there due to the density of residential areas and concerns for the safety of civilians.

Several group fighters have reportedly fled the eastern section to the west via the Tigris River, which bisects the city, and many either drowned or were shot dead by security troops.

The conflict in Mosul has left 191.000 civilians displaced at refugee camps. The United Nations had voiced concerns for the fate of 750.000 civilians still stranded in IS-held districts in western Mosul.

ISIS Big Turban dies in US airstrike

[ARA News] Erbil – A US-led coalition airstrike killed a number of Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants, including a jihadist leader, in the Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday.

At least five ISIS members were killed, including the ISIS security official Sarhan al-Souri, when a US airstrike hit western Mosul.

Informed local sources told ARA News that the air raid targeted an ISIS security office in the Islah Ziraai neighbourhood in the western part of Mosul city, in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate.

Sarhan al-Souri, a Syrian jihadist, was the chief of the ISIS-led Security Commission of Western Mosul.

“Al-Souri was responsible for torturing and executing dozens of innocent people in Mosul,” the head of Nineveh media centre, Raafat al-Zarari, told ARA News.

According to Zarari, al-Souri was a direct target for Tuesday’s airstrike.

“The elimination of senior ISIS officials is a top priority for the US-led coalition in the Mosul air campaign at the moment,” he said.

Kirkuki said in a press statement, “The Peshmerga Intelligence received information, at after noon today, indicating that the Islamic State group is moving near Sartak Village in Dibs District to attack the Kurdish forces.”

“The international coalition air force conducted an air strike, based on the received information, eliminating the targets completely,” Kirkuki added.

Kurd security forces bust up ISIS cell

[ARA News] The Kurdish security forces on Tuesday arrested a group of Islamic Stat’s (ISIS) jihadists northwest of Kirkuk city, in northern Iraq, officials said.

The ISIS-affliated cell was reportedly preparing to carry out terror attacks in Kirkuk.

“By arresting them, our forces prevented several attacks in Kirkuk,” the Kurdish security said.

The Kurdistan Region’s Security Council (KRSC) issued a statement saying: “Our Counter Terrorism Dept (CTD) and Kirkuk’s Asayish arrested six ISIS members in Bajwan in NW Kirkuk and foiled their planned attacks.”

“Their plans included attacks in Kirkuk city and Dubiz district. The group is responsible for acts of terrorism in villages West of Kirkuk,” the KRSC said.

The six ISIS suspects were identified as Barzan Mohammed [nicknamed Qahtan], who was leading the group, beside Rokan Mohammed, Nazhan Mohammed, Ahmad Mohammed, Mohammed Ali Ibrahim and Fars Mokhlaf.

This is the second time this week that the Kurdish security forces announced the arrest of ISIS suspects.

Last Monday, the KRSC and CTD announced the arrest of Ali Sleman Osman, who was involved in an attack on the US consulate in Erbil on April 17, 2015. Osman had earlier avoided arrest by fleeing the Kurdistan Region.

Anbar Antics

4 ISIS Bad Guys eat Iraqi steel

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by U.S.-led coalition fighter jets killed on Tuesday four Islamic State militants at a drones mini-factory run by the group in western Anbar, a security source has said.

The source told Aljournal news that intelligence information revealed that the strike destroyed the factory located near the Grand Mosque at the center of the IS-held town of Annah. The four militants killed in the strike included a Tajik drone expert, according to the source.

Militants barred civilians from going out of their homes so as not to expose the extent of the damage the factory had sustained in the offensive, the source stated.

“IS have manufactured tens of reconnaissance and bomb-supplied drones to target security forces,” according to the source.

Islamic State has been holding a number of towns in western Anbar, close to the borders with Syria, since it emerged in 2014 to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate” on Iraqi territory. Army and U.S.-led fighter aircraft have occasionally pounded the group’s locations at those regions.

No official security campaign has been declared by the government yet to recapture western Anbar towns as its forces have been busy since mid October struggling to retake Mosul, Islamic State’s biggest stronghold in the country. Anbar’s military command launched a brief offensive early January, which succeeded in recapturing a few villages before halting again.

15 die in Iraqi airstrikes in al-Qaim

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by unidentified fighter jets left 15 civilian casualties at western Anbar on Tuesday, a local source has said.

A woman and a child were killed and 13 other civilians were wounded in an airstrike by unknown military aircraft at a residential area at the city of al-Qaem, Islamic State’s biggest pocket in the province, Sputnik News agency quoted a local source as saying.

This is not the first time botched airstrikes leave civilian casualties since Iraqi government troops and allied U.S.-led air forces launched a campaign to drive IS militants out of Iraq.

A similar airstrike at Qaem’s al-Karabla region on January 6th left five civilians dead and 16 others injured.

In December, fighter jets, believed to be Iraqi, killed at least 130 civilians by mistake, also in Qaem. The incident sparked wide-scale condemnation in Iraq, and generals at the Iraqi military and the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Iraq denied responsibility for the airstrike.

An airstrike targeting a medical unit supposedly occupied by Islamic State militants in the Mosul district of Hammam al-Alil last October killed eight civilians, according to Human Rights Watch, which urged air forces engaged in battles against the group to ensure civilians’ safety.

Salahuddin Combat Courier

39 ISIS Turbans have a Very Bad Day

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Thirty-nine fighters from Islamic State were killed on Tuesday after army forces pushed back an attack on troops at Tal Kusaiba, east of Salahuddin, according to a security source.

“By escalating its attacks against security troops in Salahuddin, the group is seeking to hinder any advancement towards Hawija, Kirkuk,” the source told Alsumaria News.

Since they drove out Islamic State militants from the region mid January 2016, security forces have been in control over Tal Kusaiba, fighting off occasional attacks by IS militants there.

Islamic State has escalated attacks across Iraqi provinces, including Salahuddin, since Iraqi government forces managed to retake a half of its largest bastion in the country, the city of Mosul, since October 2016. Observers believe the extremist group is trying to make up for daily losses in Mosul and to relieve security pressure on that front by attacking security and civilians at other cities.

The group has lost at least 3300 of its personnel in the operations at Mosul, and reports have been recurring about internal divisions and fighters’ escapes since government forces launched the offensives to retake Mosul.

Kops foil ISIS attack, leaves 2 Bad Guys dead

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Two Islamic State militants were killed and a militiaman was wounded on Tuesday as security troops and mobilization forces foiled an attack by the group east of Salahuddin province, a security source has said.

Security and al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) deployed in the Mutaibija region pushed back Islamic State attackers, killing two militants from the assaulting group, the source told Alsumaria News. One PMU member was wounded in the incident, the source added.

Mutaibija has recently seen occasional Islamic State militant activities against security forces.

The recent attack comes hours after another assault by the extremist group on an army deployment in Tal Kusaiba, also in the eastern region of the province, leaving 39 militants killed, according to security sources.

ISIS Bomb Guy now pining for the Fjords

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State bomb expert died Tuesday along with a companion while planting an explosive device in Salahuddin province.

The militant, nicknamed Abu Abdullah, died with a comrade when a bomb they were trying to plant at a road in the town of Shirqat went off, a security source told Alsumaria News.

He was a second-tier leader and a bomb expert at of the most outstanding booby-trapping cells in the extremist group who was involved in recent bombings over the past months, according to the source, who asked not to be named.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led military coalition and popular troops, have been battling Islamic State out of Iraqi cities it took over in 2014, most notably Mosul, its biggest stronghold, the half of which was recaptured by security forces on January 24th.

In december 2016, joint government forces said they recaptured several villages in the eastern side of Shirqat. IS still maintains a few pockets in the province, and has carried out a number of bloody attacks against security forces in the recent weeks.

Earlier on Tuesday, security and popular mobilization forces reportedly killed 42 Islamic State extremists after they foiled attacks by the group at Tal Kusaiba and Mutaibija regions.

[al-Manar] Russian long-range bombers have destroyed two ISIL command centers, along with weapons and ammunition depots in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province – the latest in a series of strikes against the ‘jihadists’ in the area, the Russian Defense Ministry has announced.

According to local reports from activists in east Homs, the Syrian Arab Army has made some gains so far, despite having limited air support from the Russian and Syrian air forces this afternoon.

The Syrian Arab Army recently made some gains east of the T-4 Military Airport; however, as long as the Islamic State still holds Jabal Jazal, Jabal Shaer, Mahr Gas Fields, and Jabal Hayyan, then they will be in good position to reverse the government gains.

commander was reportedly killed in the al-Raqqa Governorate this past weekend, pro-opposition "Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently" claimed on Tuesday.

The ISIS commander, Salih Yahya Ghazali Yilmiz, was a Dutch citizen of Syrian descent before joining the Islamic State in 2013.

Yilmiz was reportedly killed on Saturday, January 28th when a U.S. Coalition warplane struck his quarters in near the al-Raqqa Governorate town of Tabaqa.

Prior to joining the Islamic State, Yilmiz was a soldier in the Royal Netherlands Army, serving for a short period before joining the terrorist group.

Yilmiz played an integral role in training Uyghur and British fighters in Syria before leading several Islamic State units in battle around al-Raqqa.

Coalition supplied armored vehicles to SDF for first time
The US-led international coalition against ISIS provided its allies in Syria with armored vehicles, a spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said and a US colonel confirmed.

“The armored vehicles and troop carriers had arrived four or five days ago,” Talal Silo told Reuters on Tuesday. “Previously we didn't get support in this form, we would get light weapons and ammunition.”

Silo said the vehicles would be used to support the SDF’s ongoing offensive on ISIS-held Raqqa, which the extremist group claimed as its capital. The SDF is a coalition of forces including the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the Syrian Arab Coalition, and Turkmen and Assyrian elements. During its campaign for Raqqa, the SDF has also added many local fighters to its ranks.

The US-led coalition has been backing the SDF as a key ally on the ground fighting ISIS in northern Syria, providing advice, air support, and some arms. American officials, however, have been very clear that the arms they supply are to the Syrian Arab Coalition and not Kurdish forces, who are dominant members of the SDF.

The US is balancing its support of the YPG and SDF with its alliance with fellow NATO member Turkey who considers the YPG to be a terrorist group with ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Coalition spokesperson, Col. John Dorrian, confirmed that they have provided vehicles to the Syrian Arab Coalition.

"We have provided armored Sport Utility Vehicles to the Syrian Arab Coalition using existing authorities, in the interest of helping protect our partnered force from the [ISIS] improvised-explosive device threat," Dorrian told AFP news agency on Tuesday. "The decision was made by military commanders, and has been in the works for some time.”

The process of delivering the supplies began under the administration of former US President Barack Obama.

A US general commented to USA Today in mid-January that the US air force had been increasing airdrops of weapons, ammunition and other equipment to opposition forces who are closing in on Raqqa.

The SDF is leading Operation Euphrates Wrath to retake the city of Raqqa from ISIS. They have liberated large amounts of territory north and west of the city and have imposed a crescent-shaped siege on Raqqa that they are looking to extend eastward.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

Bodies of kidnapped workers found near Baqubah

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Two Iraqi government workers who were kidnapped from their workplace last week in Diyala were found dead on Tuesday, a local official said.

Two workers at Hamorabi, a government constructions and housing company, were found dead at a valley near Zolo region (98 km northeast of Baqubah) with gunshot marks on their corpses, Alsumaria News quoted Sadeq al-Husseini, a member of the security committee at Diyala council, as saying.

Until present, the destiny of a third victim kidnapped with the dead pair remains unknown, Husseini added.

Last Wednesday, a security source revealed that a “terrorist group” attacked the company’s location at Naft Khana region and kidnapped five workers. But the province’s security committee said later there were only three missing. A local source had told Alsumaria News at the time that the kidnappers belonged to the Islamic State extremist group, but the latter has not yet declared whether it had links to the incident.

Bloody attacks and kidnappings targeting civilians and security personnel have escalated since Islamic State militants emerged in 2014 to proclaim a so-called ‘Islamic Caliphate” in the country. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said violence in the country left 19000 casualties in nine months of 2016.

ISIS imposes curfew in old Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A local source in Nineveh Province revealed that the Islamic State group imposed a curfew on the movement of citizens in the neighborhoods of old Mosul after 5 pm for unknown reasons, Alsumaria News reported on Tuesday.

The source said, “The Islamic State group imposed a curfew on the civilians’ movement in the neighborhoods of old Mosul from 5 pm to 5 am for unknown reasons.”

“There are doubts that the curfew was imposed to facilitate the transfer of weapons,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

In January 24, 2017, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that security forces fully liberated the eastern side of Mosul from the Islamic State’s control.
