2 LNA soldiers die in fighting near Kufra
Tunis, 26 August 2017:

Two members a Libyan National Army unit were reported killed this morning in clashes with gunmen south of Kufra near the border with Chad. According to the Sibal Al-Salam battalion, the clashes were with a Chadian opposition group. It added that it had managed to kill seven members of the group and destroy three of its vehicles.

The battalion is from Kufra and is said to consist mainly of members of the Zwai tribe who are Salafists.

A number of Chadian opposition groups are known to be operating on the Libyan side of the border. Last weekend one of them launched an attack on Chadian forces on the other side, killing a number and triggering Chad’s decision to break diplomatic relations with Qatar. It accused it of using Libya as a base to destablise the country.

However, according to a source in Kufra, the Chadians were not opponents of the country’s president Idriss Déby but mercenaries some of whom had in fact previously been fighting alongside the LNA. According to the source, identity cards provided by the LNA were found on the bodies of two of the dead.

This has not been confirmed.

Children among 14 dead in new air strike on Yemen capital
[DAWN] Children were among at least 14 people killed in an air strike that toppled residential blocks in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Friday, witnesses and medics said.

The attack was the latest in a wave of deadly raids on residential areas of Yemen

blamed on a Saudi-led Arab military coalition, drawing strong international condemnation.

The United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
has accused the Arab coalition of killing 42 civilians in the week to Thursday, including many children.

Amnesia Amnesty International’s Middle East research director, Lynn Maalouf, said the coalition "rained down bombs on civilians while they slept".

She called in a statement for the UN to take action against Soddy Arabia

over the list of civilian facilities struck in deadly air raids over the past two years.

"We are calling on the UN to look at the evidence -- the schools and hospitals that lie in ruins, the hundreds of young lives lost to reckless air strikes," Maalouf said.

The International Committee of the Red Thingy condemned the latest deadly raid as "outrageous".

"Eight of the victims were members of the same family, including five children between three and 10 years old," said the deputy head of the ICRC’s delegation in Yemen, Carlos Morazzani, after visiting the site.

Spanish police arrested the gang members in several Spanish cities, but its leader was taken into custody in Helsinki. The women were smuggled to Spain where they were told to seek international protection and asylum "so that they could work for the criminal organisation without problems in the event of being identified by the police," Europol said.

Austria strengthens border checks with Italy despite lower migrant arrivals
25 August
[TheLocal.at] Austria has diverted three of four lanes on the A13 motorway (Die Brennerautobahn) – 25 kilometres away from the Italian border – and has placed soldiers at a frontier railway station. Hundreds of cars and trucks coming from Italy have been stopped and searched on the A13 motorway, according to a report in Italian daily Repubblica. At least 15 soldiers are also on duty at Matrei am Brenner train station, checking passenger and cargo trains arriving from Italy, claims the daily.

It added that two women and six men, from West African nations Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, were found alive hiding in the empty fuel tank of a train, normally reserved for liquified gas.

Austria recently announced it would send army back-up to help police its borders. The measures are in response to efforts by illegal migrants to enter Austria from Italy. Between 700 and 1,000 illegal immigrants are stopped in Tyrol every month, states a report in German newspaper zeit.de. Official Austrian government statistics show that the number of asylum applications more than halved from 88,000 in 2015 to 42,000 in 2016.

[TheLocal.es] The jihadist cell behind last week's twin attacks in Spain was built around a "guru", like a cult, went completely offline to avoid detection by anti-terrorist police, and recruited siblings, experts said. Among the dozen suspects are four sets of brothers.

Norwegian asylum centres capacity to be reduced by further 1,600
24 August
[TheLocal.no] Norway’s Directorate of Immigration (Utlendingsdirektorat, UDI) has said that it will close 17 asylum centres across the country. The closures encompass 1,610 places at asylum centres, of which 320 are earmarked for unaccompanied minors arriving in the country, according to the report.

“The basis for this is that UDI has far too much available capacity. This is a result of 31,000 asylum seekers coming [to Norway] in 2015, compared to just 3,460 last year. That is a reduction of over 27,000 asylum seekers,” UDI’s regional director Stig Arne Thune told NRK. “If arrivals in Norway remain low, I wouldn’t rule out further reductions."

Belgian police raid home of Somali-Belgian knife-attack colonist
[AnNahar] During the attack near the Grand Place in central Brussels at 8:00 pm (1800 GMT), the man rushed at several soldiers from behind and struck them with a knife, prompting one of them to open fire.

"The man was hit and died shortly afterwards in hospital from his wounds," the prosecutors' statement said. As well as the knife, police found a replica gun and two copies of the Koran on him.

One of the soldiers was "slightly" maimed in the attack which Mayor Philippe Close said was perpetrated by a "lone individual."

Overnight, police raided the suspect's home in Bruges, northwest Belgium, with federal prosecutors opening an investigation into "attempted terrorist murder," a statement said.

The assailant was a Belgian national of Somali origin who was born in 1987, authorities confirmed. He arrived in the country in 2004 and was granted Belgian nationality in 2015.

Although not known for any terror-related activities, he had an assault and battery charge on his record from February, the statement said.

Arab-Israeli charged in knife attack on Polish policeman
[IsraelTimes] Polish prosecutors pressed charges Friday against an Israeli citizen alleged to have slightly hurt a police officer in Warsaw with a knife.

Prosecutors identified the suspect as Ibrahim H., withholding his last name as required under Polish law.
Tourist? Colonist? The entire situation is very odd, indeed.
They said he has been charged with assaulting a police officer and exposing an officer to the threat of loss of life or serious harm.

Warsaw police front man Robert Szumiata said the man attacked the agent with a knife Thursday, wounding him in the face.

Police had been called by residents anxious over the man’s strange behavior hours before a nearby concert by US band Allah-Las. A performance by the group the previous day in the Netherlands was cancelled due to a terror threat.

Radical July 7 preacher arrested in undercover sting trying to recruit jihadis
[Telegraph] A radical Moslem holy man who influenced one of the July 7 London bombers has been incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
after officers in the US caught him allegedly trying to recruit jihadis in an undercover sting operation.

Abdullah el-Faisal, who was deported to Jamaica from Britannia in 2007 after serving a sentence for soliciting murder and causing racial hatred, is now facing extradition to New York.

According to the Manhattan district attorney, el-Faisal offered to help an undercover officer travel to the Middle East and join Isil.

El-Faisal, who was arrested on Friday in Jamaica, was a mentor of Jermaine Lindsay, who detonated a bomb on a Tube train near King's Cross, killing 25 passengers.

He was arrested after a month long sting carried out by an undercover New York Police Department officer who communicated with him by email, text and video chat.

According to the Manhattan district attorney, el-Faisal offered to help an undercover officer travel to the Middle East and join Isil.
El-Faisal, 53, was sentenced to seven years after becoming the first person for a century to be prosecuted under the 1860 Public Order Act.

Lindsay, also from Jamaica and also a convert to Islam, attended at least one lecture by El-Faisal and listened to tapes of his sermons. During the preacher's trial, he was heard telling audiences to kill Hindus, Jews and other non-Moslems like "cockroaches".

El-Faisal arrived in the UK in 1992 and married a British biology graduate, establishing himself as a lay preacher at Brixton Mosque, often preaching to crowds of up to 500 people.

His preaching came to the attentions of police when tapes of his sermons were found in the car of a suspected rapist in Dorset in late 2001.

During subsequent searches of specialist Islamic bookshops and El-Faisal's rented house in Stratford, East London, police found other recordings in which he exhorted young Moslems to accept the deaths of women and kiddies as "collateral damage" and to "learn to fly planes, drive tanks... load your guns and to use missiles".

He told young British Moslems it was their duty to kill non-believers, Jews, Hindus and Westerners, urging them to adopt a "jihad mentality".

He also promised schoolboys that they would be rewarded with "72 virgins in paradise" if they died in a holy war.

The jury watched a video of El-Faisal after the Sept 11 attacks telling up to 150 young Moslems that the Koran justified attacking "kaffirs", or unbelievers.

Kashmiri militants kill three Indian officers
[DAWN] Militants in India-held Kashmire killed one officer and maimed three paramilitary troops in an attack on a police facility early on Saturday, police said. Indian forces returned the attack.

The gunnies detonated grenades and fired automatic assault rifles to gain entry to the district police headquarters in southern Pulwama district, which also houses families of some officers, director general of police S.P Vaid said.

One police officer was killed in the initial assault and three paramilitary troops were maimed who were evacuated to a nearby hospital, he said.

"Two more CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) soldiers died" in pursuit of the attackers, Vaid told AFP.

"We are evacuating the families from there," he said.

It was not clear how many attackers were inside the compound.

6 Kurds die in roadside bomb attack
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Six Kurdish Peshmerga were killed and wounded Saturday when an explosive device went off on the side of a road west of Kirkuk, according to a security source.

Mawazin News quoted the source saying that the device was planted on the side of a road between Ismail Awa and Kharba Rot regions when a vehicle owned by the Peshmerga Ministry passed.

One passenger was killed and five others were injured in the blast, according to the source.

Islamic State militants continue to step up attacks against security forces even after they lost their biggest stronghold in Iraq, Mosul, which Iraqi forces recaptured last month, marking a symbolic collapse of the group’s “caliphate” proclaimed in 2014.

The Iraqi government plans to aim at the few remaining IS havens in the country, including Kirkuk. Troops are currently nearing victory over IS in its stronghold town of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh.

Peshmerga fighters have been part of the U.S.-backed military campaign to retake IS-held areas which launched in October.

Iraqi soldier wounded in bombing attack in Rutba

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) A senior officer was killed and four soldiers were wounded in two separate blasts in Anbar on Friday, security sources were quoted saying.

An official security source told Shafa News that a senior border guard officer was killed when a bomb blast ripped through his convoy at the city of Rutba, near Iraq’s borders with Jordan. The officer was heading to his service unit, according to the source.

Meanwhile, a local source told Alsumaria News that an explosive device exploded in Shaqoufa, Hit, 70 kilometers west of Ramadi, wounding four police members.

Islamic State militants are still holding areas in western Anbar since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives by government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces have managed to take over several surrounding villages.

Anbar’s borders with Syria had seen occasional encounters between security forces and Islamic State militants.

Iraq forces recapture city of Tal Afar from ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi forces have captured 90 percent of the city of Tal Afar and are clearing it from ISIS militiants.
That was quick.
Iraqi military units, who have been battling in the last 7 days to drive ISIS from its bastion, said Saturday they had recaptured a large portion of the the city.

Earlier on Saturday military units reached the city centre and raised the country's flag atop its Ottoman-era citadel.

"Units of the Counter-Terrorism Service liberated the Citadel and Basatin districts and raised the Iraqi flag on top of the citadel," operation commander General Abdulamir Yarallah said in a statement.

The CTS and federal police units had converged on the city centre from the south and west, said General Yarallah.

Clashes were ongoing on the northern outskirts and Iraqi forces were dealing with the final pockets of resistance inside the city, he added.

Saturday's advance puts Iraqi forces on the verge of recapturing Tal Afar only six days after they launched an offensive to take back one of the last ISIS strongholds in the country.

It follows weeks of Iraqi and US-led coalition air strikes.

Tal Afar is located 70 kilometres (40 miles) west of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, where the krazed killer group declared its "caliphate" in 2014 before being ousted from the city in July.

Iraqi forces on Saturday also seized three northern districts of Tal Afar and the al-Rabia neighbourhood west of the citadel, a day after taking the al-Talia district to the south.

Tal Afar, which had 200,000 residents until ISIS captured it in a 2014 offensive, is on a strategic road that linked ISIS-held territories in Syria with Mosul.

Once Tal Afar is retaken, Baghdad is expected to launch a new offensive on Hawija, 300 kilometres north of Baghdad.

ISIS also present in the vast western province of Anbar, where it controls several zones along the Syrian border with war-ravaged Syria, including the al-Qaim area.

The krazed killer group has lost much of the territory it controlled and thousands of its fighters have been killed.

Duterte fires sniper rifle at Marawi militants
[Sky News] Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has fired a sniper rifle towards rebels as his troops battled the insurgents in Marawi City.

The fight has been raging since May when Islamic State-inspired Maute militants captured parts of the conflict-hit city. Around 700 people, including many rebels, have so far died in the three-month battle.

Duterte reportedly fired the weapon as he met soldiers during his third Marawi visit. It is not known if his shots hit any Maute gunmen.

The Philippine government released an image of him holding a sniper rifle, along with the caption, "President Rodrigo Duterte fires a shot towards enemy lines during his third visit to the troops of the joint special operations task force trident in war-torn Marawi City."

During his trip, he told soldiers, "I will be happy to die for my country. I need to be with you to show my solidarity. We will not stop until the last terrorist is neutralized."

His visit to the city comes after troops managed to retake the city's mosque, which was believed to be a militant hideout.

Rohingya militants accused of attacking Myanmar troops; 89 killed from both sides
[DAWN] At least 89 people, including a dozen security personnel, were killed as Rohingya murderous Moslems allegedly besieged border posts in northern Rakhine State, triggering a fresh exodus of refugees towards Bangladesh.

The state is bisected by religious hatred focused on the stateless Rohingya Moslem minority, who are reviled and perceived as illegal immigrants colonists in Buddhist-majority Myanmar.

The office of de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi claimed that 12 security officials had been killed alongside 77 murderous Moslems -- the highest declared single day toll since fighting broke out last year.

Friday’s fighting went kaboom! around Rathedaung township which has seen a heavy build-up of Myanmar troops in recent weeks, with reports filtering out of killings by shadowy groups, army-blockaded villages and abuses.

Some 20 police posts came under attack in the early hours of Friday by an estimated 150 murderous Moslems, some carrying guns and using homemade explosives, Myanmar’s military claimed.

"The military and police members are fighting back together against murderous Moslem Bengali terrorists," Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing said in a statement on Facebook, using the state’s description for Rohingya murderous Moslems.

One resident in Maungdaw, the main town in northern Rakhine, said gunfire could be heard throughout the night. "We are still hearing gunshots now, we dare not to go out from our house," the resident said by phone, asking not to be named.

Syrian forces declare truce over with artillery attacks in Homs
Homs (Syria News) The Syrian army troops attacked, on Saturday, several cities in different provinces in Syria, in a new violation for the recent de-escalation agreement.

Qasioun News reported that the Syrian regime aircraft have carried out four air strikes on the cities of Tal Zahab and Kafr Laha, north of Homs, while artillery troops shelled the cities, causing only material damage.

Meanwhile in Damascus, Jober neighborhood was shelled using four ground-to-ground missiles, despite Eastern Ghouta agreement to halt all battles and operations in the area.

The Syrian army artillery also shelled the residential neighborhoods in Ayn Tarma City, in the countryside of Damascus; however, no damage was reported.

It is noteworthy that Syrian government forces and allied militia are continue violating the de-escalation agreement in Homs and Eastern Ghouta, despite the Russian guarantee to stop all military operations in both areas.

Syrian army, allies advance against ISIS in central Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Syrian army and allied forces have captured one of the last major ISIS enclaves in the central Syrian desert, a monitor and a Hezbollah military media unit said on Saturday.

The pocket of territory totals around 2,000 square km (770 square miles), said the media unit run by Hezbollah, which fights alongside Syrian government forces in the war.

Earlier this week, the army and its allies encircled the ISIS bully boyz after advancing southward to join up with their forces near al-Sukhna town in Homs province. The enclave extends from the west of al-Sukhna into nearby Hama province.

The Syrian army -- supported by Russian air power and Iran-backed militias -- secured al-Sukhna this month. It was the last major town in Homs province that ISIS held.

The Syrian Observatory for Human rights, a Britannia-based war monitor, said the army has seized dozens of hills and positions in that region in central Syria.

Now, the only significant ISIS presence remaining in Homs was another nearby enclave on the provincial border with Hama, also under siege by the army and its allies, the monitoring group said.

Over the past year, ISIS has lost ground to various separate enemies including Syrian government forces with their allies, and US-backed militias.

ISIS bully boyz still control most of Deir al-Zor province, which borders Iraq.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

3 Kids die in bombing attack in Fallujah

Fallujah (IraqiNews.com) Five children were killed and wounded when a leftover landmine exploded east of Fallujah, a paramilitary commander said on Friday.

Gomaa al-Jumaili, a senior commander at the Popular Mobilization Forces in al-Karma region told Baghdad Today that an explosive device from Islamic State remnant landmines exploded, killing three children and wounding two others.

Iraqi government forces had recaptured Karma from IS militants in May 2016

Several incidents of remnant explosives killing civilians at areas retaken from IS have been reported over the past months. Millions of landmines from Iraq’s past wars, including the three-year-war against the Islamic State militants, still await removal.

Islamic State militants are still holding areas in western Anbar near the borders with Syria, and Iraqi government and paramilitary forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition warplanes, have regularly bombarded or cleared surrounding areas, leaving hundreds of militants dead. Anbar is one of the next targets marked by Iraqi government forces which are currently battling IS out of Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last haven in Nineveh province.

Iraqi warplanes reportedly dropped thousands of messages on IS havens west of Anbar in July telling citizens that military invasions of those areas were imminent, and advising them to stay away from militants’ gatherings.

ISIS Press Gangs busy in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State carried out random arrests in western Anbar seeking compulsory recruitment, a security source from the province said.

“IS launched campaigns of random arrests in Qaim at checkpoints or even against whoever doesn’t hold an ID card,” the source told Alghad Press on Saturday.

“These campaigns seek compulsory recruitment ordered by the militant group on people at the western regions,” the source added.

Earlier this month, three brothers under the age of 15 years old were reportedly killed by the group in Qaim over refusing to join the group as well as the compulsory recruitment.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

In late July, a military source was quoted saying that Lt.Gen Abdul-Amir Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh Operations, ordered to besiege IS havens in western Anbar preparing to invade them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

ISIS classifies female sex slaves

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Subjecting women from the Iraqi Yazidi minority to sexual slavery, Islamic State militants would separate attractive women from less attractive ones, a survivor has said in an interview.

Dubai-based Al Arabiya network interviewed Bivrin (an approximate spelling of the name mentioned in the Arabic report) whose family was taken by IS militants to Mosul from their home village of Kojo. She gave just another firsthand account of forced marriages and sexual slavery the religious minority had endured since the emergence of the extremist group in 2014.

When she and her elder fell into IS captivity, Bivrin was sent to a house in Mosul used as a females’ detention facility for being “not beautiful” as she heard her captors saying, while her more attractive sister was sent to Raqqa, the group’s base in Syria.

At one day, a fellow hostage was beaten, humiliated by the militants to force her to take a bath and put on skimpy clothes, which she resisted and committed suicide by cutting her own veins.

“We never saw her body, the militants had tane her away and never knew where she ended up to,” Bivrin said in the video of the interview.

“I once saw a (IS) member take four sisters (to be his pleasure subjects),” Bivrin told the interviewer.

The United Nations has recently urged Iraq to ensure protection for victims of Islamic State sexual slavery.

“Women and girls under the control of ISIL, in particular women from the Yezidi and other minority communities, have been especially vulnerable to abuses of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law,” the report by the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI) and the UN Human Rights Office said last week. It said victims had been subjected to rape and sexual assault, forced displacement, abduction, deprivation of liberty, slavery, forced religious conversion, and cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

A statistic released by the Kurdistan Region Government’s Endowments and Religious Affairs Ministry said Islamic State’s massacres of Yazidis forced nearly 360.000 of the religious minority to flee their areas, with 90.000 of those heading abroad.

IS kidnapped 6417 Yazidis since 2014, the report added. Those include 1102 women and 1655 children, the statistics showed.

The calamity rendered 2645 kids parentless, including 220 whose parents are still under IS captivity, the ministry revealed.

Authorities ran into 43 mass graves of Yazidi victims slaughtered by IS, according to the statistic.

ISIS enforces use of its own scrip in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants issued directives on Friday in Anbar to punish whoever uses a currency other than the ones issued by the group.

During Friday sermons, Islamic State preachers at the group’s havens on Annah, Rawa and Qaim, west of Anbar, obliged civilians to use coins issued by the group’s “finance bureau”, threatening public whipping for violators.

Past reports had told of the group imposing the currency at other havens in Syria and also in Mosul, its former capital which Iraqi forces recaptured in July.

Islamic State militants have held the three towns since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives by government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces have managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, in July, and said it was going to proceed towards other group holdouts, including Anbar. Government troops are currently battling Is out of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh.

Late July, Iraqi army warplanes reportedly dropped millions of messages on western Anbar telling locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing, and advising them to stay away from militants’ deployments.
