[BREITBART] The first of four reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown ... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,... suspects accused of beating and torturing a disabled teenager and broadcasting the attack on Facebook has pleaded guilty, but a judge let her off without prison time, a report says.
Brittany Covington, 19, pleaded guilty to a hate crime in court on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The suspect also "pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and intimidation charges. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including kidnapping," the Tribune said.
Despite the guilty plea, Cook County Circuit Judge William Hooks released Covington without jail time. Telling Covington, "Do not mess this up," Judge Hooks imposed 200 hours of community service and banned Covington from using social media and having contact with her co-defendants for four years.
The judge did not assign jail time because, he said, "I’m not sure if I did that you’d be coming out any better."
Hooks insisted that his sentence would give Covington the chance to put her life on a productive path.

[TAMPABAY] A 23-year-old man faces a charge of felony murder in connection with a drug deal that left his friend dead, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Daundrea Lamar Butler is not accused of taking part in the killing, however. He was tossed in the slammer Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up! under a statute that allows authorities to levy a murder charge if that person takes part in a crime that results in murder.
Deputies said Butler drove his friend, Ecru Richardson, 21, to the Oaks Apartments at 13237 Stone Fountain Drive around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. There, Richardson got out of the car to conduct a drug deal, during which he was shot by an unidentified individual.
Richardson ran back to the vehicle where Butler was waiting for him. Butler, realizing Richardson had been shot, drove his friend to the hospital, deputies said. Deputies received two calls about the shooting: one reported hearing the shots fired and the other came from Butler. At first, deputies said, Butler denied knowing about the drug deal. Later deputies said they determined Butler was aware of it.

Reminds me of a relative who wrenched her back from lifting a car battery after being angered that her husband left it out on the floor of their garage. No coincidence there.

That poor woman. Still, now she will have time to explore the internet a bit, and catch up with the outside world. Things like this Huffington Post piece:
Her tweet reads:
"Unfortunately I will not be able to race today. I am extremely disappointed but my biggest goal this season is the Olympics and I need to take care of myself now so I can be ready for next week, and more importantly, for February. As always, thank you for the well wishes"
Looks like it may have taken her out for the short term, but The Olympics seem to remain, at least for now, on her schedule.

2. Nukes are so 20th Century. A 21st Century designer plague will kill more. The tech already exists and doesn't require a Manhattan Project level of investment.
3. The capability will spread because no one has the will to kill the bad guys a priori. Virtue signalling comes with its own death sentence.
[Al Jazeera] Zim-bob-we's government, under newly inaugurated President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has announced "a new economic order" that signals a potentially significant change from the previous era of former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed her might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win.... In a bid to revive the southern African nation's battered economy, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa has proposed a series of measures to attract foreign investment, along with tax concessions to local businesses.
But Nelson Chamisa, a leader of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance, the country's largest opposition coalition of seven political parties, has warned that this strategy could be hampered by the joint police-army patrols that began after a military operation was launched on November 15, targeting "criminals" associated with Mugabe.
"The continued occupation of the streets by the army scares away investors. It does not inspire confidence," Chamisa said at a news conference in the capital Harare on Friday.
Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti expressed scepticism that the 4.5 percent growth prediction could be achieved in 2018 and called for more severe cuts to government expenditures in order for the administration to operate within the $5.7bn budget.
Police roadblocks
An internal split within the ruling ZANU-PF sparked a military takeover on November 15 that saw Mugabe step down after 37 years in power. Members of the army and police continue to monitor roadblocks and strategic government sites.
Despite criticism, Chinamasa appeared optimistic as he unveiled a raft of strategies to address corruption and the lack of fiscal discipline that typified the former regime.
Key among the changes to woo investors is a revision of the indigenisation law, a cornerstone of the Mugabe regime. The controversial policy requires 51/49 percent ownership in favour of black Zim-bob-weans as majority shareholders in companies worth more than $500,000; however, from April 2018, indigenisation will be restricted to the diamond and platinum extractive industries.
Simbarashe Mhuriro, the managing director of Oxygen Africa, a renewable energy company partnered with a Swiss enterprise, Meeco Invest AG, welcomed the policy shift.

[Al Jazeera] The future of Oman, situated along a vast stretch of coastline reaching the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is linked to the sea - and the country's ability to leverage this connection will be key to its economic development in the years ahead.
2018 marks the middle of a five-year diversification strategy that builds on Oman's long-term vision to shift from an oil-based economy towards other critical sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, tourism, fisheries and mining.
In an era of low oil prices, Oman - which has the lowest GDP per capita among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and an unemployment rate surpassing 17 percent - wants to refashion itself as a hub for shipping and industry. Facilities such as the special economic zone at Duqm, established in 2011 with a goal of becoming a commercial powerhouse, will play a significant role in this transition.
But how realistic is Oman's diversification plan, and what obstacles could the Gulf nation face in the years ahead?
"We are aware that we live in a very critical area of the Middle East ... [Oman] is like an island in a sea with a lot of challenges happening," Talal Sulaiman al-Rahbi, the deputy secretary-general of Oman's Supreme Council for Planning and the architect of the country's economic diversification plan, told Al Jazeera.
"We are looking first into reducing the dependence on oil for the national budget, and also to diversify the economy and start other clusters of industries ... in addition, increasing job opportunities in the private sector, away from government jobs. [These] are being looked at as key things to achieve."

One Country I do not have to worry about much. Pretty squared away.
[RADIOSHABELLE] A court in UK has handed a Somali refugee nine years in prison after he tried to rape a 22-year-old student.
During a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court, Recorder Sallie Bennett-Jenkins referred to Abdourahman Amadeo’s behaviour as "animalistic" and said: "You tried to rape a woman you barely knew. The fact you sought to have sex with her beggars’ belief and can only be described as animalistic."
"Your thoughts are obvious through your words. You took your own selfish and animalistic sexual satisfaction from her," she added.
The court documents revealed that Amadeo had attempted the rape at his Hounslow home in London in December 2015 when he used to work at Heathrow Airport’s Caffè Nero. During the hearing, the jury heard that the victim and one of her female friends had partied at a club before they took a lift from one of the 24-year-old’s pals thinking he was taking them to their home.
Instead, the man took them to Amadeo’s address at around 4.30am in the morning, where he attempted to rape her. He also shouted "Get this h** out of my bed" after trying to sexually assault her, the Daily Mail reported.
Bennett-Jenkins QC told the court: "It was an attempted rape committed in the most callous of circumstances. She was enjoying an evening out with friends. She did consume alcohol and there is no criticism of her in this respect.
"We have CCTV footage and we can see she was extremely vulnerable, she was falling over, and she could barely stand and fell, cutting her legs, on the way to your home. There was a specific targeting here of a vulnerable victim."
The recorder added that due to high consumption of alcohol, the young woman was not able to control herself and she either fell asleep or passed into unconsciousness in the accused’s room.
"She is spared the recollection of what you did to her, without her consent, yet this is the thing that haunts her. You took that chance to prey upon this young woman who was obviously unable to give consent to any sexual conduct," Bennett-Jenkins said.
Local media reports stated that the victim had reported the attack to police and had also taken anti-HIV drugs after the incident. The prosecution of Amadeo was largely based on the victim’s friend’s evidence, although she had been removed from the bedroom that night on the accused’s orders.
Born in Somalia, Amadeo and his parents fled to Italia as refugees. However, if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well... after getting citizenship, he moved to the UK.
The jury convicted him unanimously for the attempted rape of the young woman and also ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Perhaps those two young ladies have also pondered the idea of not getting falling down drunk when out on the town. Under current conditions in Britain, being in anything less than full capacity is to court exactly what happened here, if not worse..

Rebel and Ukrainian forces both claim four dead each as losses mount and ongoing shelling and probes continue, according to Russian language news reports.
According to a news release by the rebel Donetsk ministry of defense, four rebel soldiers were killed in the past week. The news release failed to note where the soldiers were killed, but it is known that most of the fighting in Donetsk is taking place as Dokuchaevsk, Avdievka, near Gorlovka and near the Svetodarsk arc in Lugansk.
Last week rebel media claimed that losses from the Ukrainian occupation of Gladosovo and Travenoye were so heavy that Ukrainian forces were forced to withdraw. At first, informal accounts by militiamen for the rebels, posted at retired reserve FSB Colonel Igor Girkin's VKontackte page, indicated that rebel forces had ringed the outskirts of Gladodovo and Travenoye with snipers, causing as many as ten dead in a 24 hour period.
Parts of the Ukrainian 54th Motorized Rifle brigade and the volunteer 24th "Aydar" battalion, along with a small artillery unit now occupied Gladosovo.
Official rebel media later claimed the Ukrainian forces had not withdrawn, but instead had suffered losses due to friendly fire.
A week later, Ukrainian forces have withdrawn some forces it is reported, with one tactical commander refusing to move due to intense rebel fire.
According to a post on the website of the Russian sponsored Russkaya Vesna, in the previous 24 hours, Ukrainian losses have increased to 17 dead and nine wounded. It is unclear in the reports if the counts are cumulative.
The Ukrainian Russian language news outlet said that rebel forces continue to pound Ukrainian positions at Travnevoy, Vodanoye, which is in southern Donetsk, and at Avdievka near Donetsk city, using a variety of heavy weapons including 120mm mortars.
Rebel media now claim that the takeover of Gladosovo is part of the Ukrainian general staff's plan to reinforce their positions to prepare for another mini offensive.

[ARABNEWS] A senior UN envoy warned Saturday there was a grave risk of a miscalculation that could trigger conflict with North Korea as he urged Pyongyang to keep channels open after a rare visit to the reclusive state.
Jeffrey Feltman’s four-day trip to the North ‐ the first by such a high-ranking UN diplomat since 2010 ‐ kicked off less than a week after North Korea said it test-fired a new ballistic missile capable of reaching the US.
The United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... said Feltman met North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-Ho and Vice Foreign Minister Pak Myong-Kuk and they "agreed that the current situation was the most tense and dangerous peace and security issue in the world today."
The statement added: "Noting the urgent need to prevent miscalculations and open channels to reduce the risks of conflict, Mr.Feltman underlined that the international community, alarmed by escalating tensions, is committed to the achievement of a peaceful solution to the situation on the Korean Peninsula."
Feltman, the UN’s under secretary general for political affairs, added "there can only be a diplomatic solution to the situation, achieved through a process of sincere dialogue."
"Time is of the essence."
Earlier, North Korea’s state news agency KCNA said "the US policy of hostility toward the DPRK (North Korea) and its nuclear blackmail are to blame for the current tense situation on the Korean peninsula."
But it added the North had agreed with the UN "to regularize communications through visits at various levels."
The KCNA report did not mention any meetings with leader Kim Jong-Un, who has ramped up his impoverished nation’s missile and nuclear program in recent years in order to achieve Pyongyang’s stated goal of developing a warhead capable of hitting the US mainland.

Watching the combined glee clubs sing the National Anthem properly and reverently was pure delight. Images of young Americans of every race crisply saluting the symbol of our nation was pure joy for me after all the images of the NFL, Antifa ,Berkeley and Democrap blathering for the past year. It was delightful to see genuine Americana again.
