[National Review] Let’s stop calling them ’sanctuaries.’
The phrase "sanctuary cities" is warm and welcoming. Sanctuaries are safe, cozy, and sometimes therapeutic. This term is also a deceptive euphemism for something thoroughly unacceptable.
Conservatives redefined the debate on the "estate tax" when 60 Plus Association founder Jim Martin rechristened it the "Death Tax." Likewise, those who seek law, order, and sanity in immigration should refer to "sanctuary cities" as "fugitive cities."
Anyone who hides a wanted criminal from federal officials could be prosecuted for harboring a fugitive. According to 18 U.S. Code § 1071, it is "an offense to harbor or conceal any person for whose arrest a warrant or process has been issued, so as to prevent the fugitive’s discovery and arrest." Also, 8 U.S. Code § 1324 prohibits sheltering illegal aliens from authorities. Breaking these laws can cost up to five years behind bars.
[RT] A German man has been tossed in the slammer Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! in Switzerland ...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell... for trampling his mentally-challenged daughter to death while trying to exorcise a demon. The 50-year-old was also accused of sexually assaulting his daughter in an effort to revive her.
The unnamed man told the Frauenfeld District Court in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland, that he was simply giving his daughter a "massage" to drive out a demon during the night in question in January 2016, DW reports.
Videos reenacting the brutal exorcism were shown to the court using a life-size straw puppet. The demonstration showed how the man would have stood on his 25-year-old daughter as she lay on the floor, and repeatedly kicked her in the stomach.
The prosecution also alleged the man raped his daughter while she was dying, or already dead, in an effort to revive her; he was acquitted on that charge. Autopsy reports confirmed the woman died of internal injuries, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

[IsraelTimes] Three women devoted to helping traumatized soldiers rubbed out by Afghanistan war veteran; authorities say motive unclear
Three women who devoted their lives to helping traumatized veterans were killed by a patient who had been kicked out of their Northern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, treatment program, authorities and a relative of a victim said.
A daylong siege at The Pathway Home ended Friday evening with the discovery of four bodies, including the gunman. He was identified as Albert Wong, 36, a former Army rifleman who served a year in Afghanistan in 2011-2012.
Investigators were still trying to determine when and why Wong killed two executives and a psychologist at The Pathway Home, a nonprofit post-traumatic stress disorder program at the Veterans Home of California-Yountville in the Napa Valley wine country region.
It was "far too early to say if they were chosen at random" because Sherlocks had not yet determined a motive, California Highway Patrol Assistant Chief Chris Childs said.
Gov. Jerry Governor Moonbeam Brown ... those who ignore history are bound to repeat it... ordered flags flown at half-staff at the capitol in memory of the victims. They were identified as The Pathway Home Executive Director Christine Loeber, 48; Clinical Director Jennifer Golick, 42; and Jennifer Gonzales, 29, a clinical psychologist with the the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.
"These brave women were accomplished professionals who dedicated their careers to serving our nation’s veterans, working closely with those in the greatest need of attention after deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan," The Pathway Home said in a statement.
Golick’s father-in-law, Bob Golick, said in an interview she had recently expelled Wong from the program.
The Pathway Home is located on the sprawling campus of the veterans center, which cares for about 1,000 elderly and disabled vets. It is the largest veterans home in the nation, according to the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
Wong went to the campus about 53 miles (85 kilometers) north of San Francisco on Friday morning, slipping into a going-away party for some employees of The Pathway House.
Larry Kamer told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that his wife, Devereaux Smith, called him to say that the gunman had entered the room quietly, letting some people leave while taking others hostage.
Golick called her husband, Mark, to say that she had been taken hostage by the former soldier, her father-in-law said. Mark Golick didn’t hear from her again, Malick said.
A Napa Valley sheriff’s deputy exchanged gunshots with the hostage-taker at about 10:30 a.m. but after that nothing was heard from Wong or his hostages despite daylong efforts to contact him, authorities said.
Army veteran and resident Bob Sloan, 73, was working at the home’s TV station when a co-worker came in and said he had heard four gunshots coming from The Pathway Home. Sloan sent alerts for residents to stay put.
A group of about 80 students who were on the home’s grounds were safely evacuated after being locked down, Napa County Sheriff John Robertson said. The teens from Justin-Siena High School were at a theater rehearsing a play.
"They were a distance away from the shooting situation," Robertson said.
The bodies of Wong and the women were found at about 6 p.m. While authorities had the building under siege for about eight hours they didn’t enter it.
Wong’s rental car was later found nearby. A bomb-sniffing dog alerted authorities to something on the car but the only thing found was a cellphone, authorities said.
Yvette Bennett, a wound-care supply worker who supplies the veterans center, was turned back when she tried to deliver what she called urgently needed medical supplies for two patients inside.
Of all the medical institutions she has worked with, "this is the most placid, calm, serene place," she said.
[MIRROR.CO.UK] An unknown and deadly new illness dubbed Disease X has been added to the list of potential global epidemics that could kill millions.
Each year scientists with the World Health Organisation (WHO) create a list of the most likely diseases to break out into a worldwide pandemic.
This year, among the familiar Ebola, SARS, and Zika viruses is the new name of Disease X.
And unlike the other pathogens, it is not known what causes Disease X or how doctors could try to treat it.
Researchers said that they added Disease X to the threat list to recognise the fact that the next deadly pandemic could be started by an illness that has not caused any problems before.

"could be started by an illness that has not caused any problems before" So, they've basically just admitted that they don't know why any of this happens at all. Right?

Apparently, we don't do that whole Germ Theory of Disease thing anymore. But do give us money though.
Also, the sky is falling! Or could fall, at some point in the future from some cause we are not aware of. Did I mention send money?
[Reuters] The U.S. Department of Justice formally submitted a regulation on Saturday to ban "bump stocks," a modification to high-capacity rifles that lets them fire like an automatic weapon.
President Donald Trump signed a memorandum in February directing the department to make the regulatory change, which must now be approved by the Office of Management and Budget before it is published and subject to a commentary period.
The move does not require congressional approval, allowing the administration to side-step what could have been insurmountable pressure from pro-gun groups such as the National Rifle Association that have worked to erode changes in firearm laws in the wake of mass shootings in Florida and Nevada.

Hand grenades, RPG's, M14 Toe Poppers, Claymores, M19 Anti-tank mines, C4 Exposives, dynamite, and bumpstocks.....all stuff the average citizen has no business with.

My understanding is they classified them as a machine gun which is still legal with the appropriate paper work. I don't see the point of them myself but I don't see why they can't be bought over the counter.

Besoeker -- the Constitution specifically permits citizens to own fully equipped ships of war. That whole "letters of marque and reprisal" thing.
So your opinion is noted, and ignored.

Not to be argumentative, but there is no language in the US Constitution (just rechecked to make sure) that prohibits the private ownership of an atomic bomb. Somewhere along the line however, someone decided private ownership wasn't such a good idea.
[RT] Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom expects to sign foreign contracts worth $26 billion this year for the construction and maintenance of nuclear power plants, official data shows.
According to its results for 2017, Rosatom’s portfolio of foreign orders for the next decade totals $133.6 billion. The company traditionally calculates its portfolio of orders for a period of 10 years. Head of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev told news hounds that the firm hopes to exceed the $130-billion mark.
The Russian company has recently inked agreements on nuclear cooperation with India, Iran, Egypt, China, and a number of other countries. It is bidding to construct 16 nuclear power plants in Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... .

This doesn't seem like a good idea, though marginally better than having the Pakistanis build and maintain nuke plants.
#3
You have to wonder where the Saudi's plan to import their operators for the nuke plants from. 'Cause you know that they're not going to do all that themselves.
(Also, wonderful target environment for radicals with missiles: discuss.)

One of japan's companies was building small nuclear reactors for sale. I think I'd trust a Japanese built reactor before a Russian-built one.
[RT] US President Donald Trump has said that North Korea has promised not to conduct any missile tests up to and during the planned meetings between the two adversaries. Trump took to his favorite medium - Twitter - to make the announcement on Saturday. “North Korea has not conducted a Missile Test since November 28, 2017 and has promised not to do so through our meetings,” Trump wrote, adding that he believes “they will honor that commitment!” It's kinda fun, watching the Dems try to a.) ignore it, b.) caution that Trump's gonna get snookered and c.) try to double down on evaporating "scandals." My guess is that Trump used Stormy Daniels as the secret go-between. That's why Li'l Kim looks so happy.

...The pushback has already started, with the MSM hinting that DJT completely left SecState out of the loop on this, and how can you believe Trump will succeed when he shafts his SecState like that (the same SecState they have insisted is a unqualified incompetent who is only there as a political favor to Trump)?

the same SecState they have insisted is a unqualified incompetent
We have seen this same pattern play out before:
1) The Trump tax cuts are just payoffs to his fat-cat friends and will do nothing for the economy.
2) The Trump tariffs on steel and aluminum will trash the economy right when it is humming along again.

The left is being hypocritical about this, but looking at the realistic best case (treaty, Norks cash in Danegeld, Norks cheat) I'm skeptical.
However the fact that the Trump administration has set other preconditions for the meeting after both sides had publicly agreed to meet, which is a typical North Korean style maneuver suggests that this might actually be an effort to increase psychological pressure on the Nork leadership.
Trump, after all defeated Hillary by campaigning like a leftist.
[Hot Air] Dear Democrats: Is this really the hill you want to die on? If so, please be our guests.
As I’ve discussed here in the past, it’s often easier in political terms to fight from the cheap seats as the minority party than it is to actually take control and run the government. When the GOP was in that position we often saw some rather wacky ideas cropping up when candidates would take a viable debate point and turn up the volume to eleven until they reached an illogical extreme. If one candidate proposes building a wall on the Mexican border, you can bet that it won’t be long until someone else comes along and demands that it include a moat filled with sharks with lasers mounted on them.
Now we’re seeing a similar phenomenon on the left where the Democrats are huddled in the minority position. Complaining about deportations, defending criminal illegal immigrants and pushing for sanctuary policies are all the rage right now. So, of course, someone had to similarly crank the thermostat of hot takes up to the maximum setting and call for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) entirely. The Daily Caller noted yesterday that this is already affecting potential POTUS contenders for the Democratic primary.

I pay the Democrats no attention. They are a foolish bunch. So many mistakes. So many problems they bring on themselves. It is truly sad to see how poorly the party has become. I stopped going to Drudge because of the Cruz slam. Texas becoming a blue state. Well Cruz won dramatically. Wasn't even close. All the Democrats combined tallied less than Cruz. It seems the only news media we have these days is fake news. That's what burned me about the news media on Vietnam. I went shortwave to get news not parroted here. An old timer told me years ago that if you want to be happy in this world don't watch TV or read the newspaper. That is so true these days.
[DAWN] A police team conducted a raid in Sindh's Tharparkar district on Saturday, recovering a 14-year-old Hindu girl who had been married off to a 55-year-old man earlier this week.
The police placed in durance vile Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! the accused groom and the girl's father, who had allegedly accepted money in exchange for consenting to the marriage, during the raid that was conducted on the orders of Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Thar Ameer Saud Magsi in Dhaklo village, near the town of Chelhar.
Police officials told Dawn that the minor girl was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Abdul Qadir Khoso, who ordered the police to verify the girl's age by sending her to Hyderabad for required medical tests.
The mother of the girl and other relatives had earlier blamed the girl's father for having sold off his daughter to the accused groom for Rs70,000.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against four persons on behalf of the state under section 3 (punishment for male contracting party), section 4 (punishment for solemnising a child marriage) and section 5 (punishment for parent or guardian concerned in a child marriage) of Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013.
When contacted, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Younis Rahimoon of Chelhar cop shoppe said that it was discovered during preliminary investigation that two other men had also been involved in the matter and their names had been included in the FIR. One of these two accused suspects managed to flee while police arrested the others, he said.
Rahimoon said that the recovered girl would be handed over to the elders of the area for protection after being produced before the medical board as per court orders.
Zahida Detho, the chairperson of Sindh Rural Partners Organisation (SRPO) which has worked extensively in Thar to combat child marriages, deplored that despite the enactment of Hindu Marriage Act and Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, incidents of child marriages were still on the rise.
Child marriage is a punishable offence in Sindh. According to the Child Marriages Restraint Act, a child marriage includes any marriage where one of the contracting parties is less than 18 years of age.
Those found guilty of entering into, or facilitating, a child marriage can be sentenced to rigorous punishment for up to three years.

[DAWN] LAHORE: The police say the death of a housemaid which was dubbed as suicide by her parents in the Sundar area some days back, was in fact a murdere after rape.
The parents of Shama Bibi (22) had said that she ended her life by shooting herself in the temple.
She was working as housemaid at the residence of Zasheer in a private housing society , the police said.
The parents had refused to initiate legal action, asking the police to hand over the body without autopsy.
However, there's more than one way to skin a cat... the police on the basis of some circumstantial evidences got conducted post-mortem and its report stated that she was raped and fired at from a considerable distance. Police have launched investigation with the perspective of a murder case.

[DAWN] GENEVA: The UN human rights chief said on Friday that Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has launched profanity-laced diatribes against United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... rapporteurs, needs "psychiatric evaluation".
Listing some of Manila’s actions against UN envoys, including filing terrorism charges against one, rights chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said "it makes one believe that the president of the Philippines needs to submit himself to some sort of psychiatric evaluation".
Zeid and other UN rights officials have focused significant attention on Duterte’s controversial drug war.
Police have killed more than 4,100 drug suspects since Duterte took office in 2016, but rights groups allege more than 8,000 others have been murdered in what they describe as crimes against humanity.

The statement that someone 'needs psychiatric help' is simply the the statist's way of saying "He's thinking bad thoughts."
It's not that they want to help; It's that they want to suppress.

"Half the population is by definition below average intelligence..."
Though clever, George Carlin was no statistician. Because of the bell curve distribution, half the population are of average intelligence (IQ 90-110), a quarter are below, and the remaining quarter are above. And wisdom is unconnected to processing power.
