[KANSAS] The suspect in an armed robbery who was shot in the head by a customer at a south Wichita gas station died at the hospital, police said.
Wichita police did not identify the person who was killed, but said in a Saturday news release that he was a 16-year-old male. The customer who shot him has not been tossed in the clink ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... Police have not said whether the 16-year-old was armed when he was shot. The man who shot him was robbed before he opened fire, Lt. Chris Halloran said. It’s unclear how many shots he fired.
Those details are expected to emerge from a full investigation, police said. Twenty-four hours after the shooting, the store remained closed as detectives worked to piece together evidence at the scene of the crime ‐ of both the robbery and the shooting.

CNN and NBC, failed, but showed their true colors, one drunk talking about his mommy's sex life, probably wishing he was getting laid as much as her. And the other station talking about her steaming parts... I wonder how many parents had to turn to FOX and watch it from there to keep their kids safe from the lib TV..

What sort of woman wakes up one day and decides to get her HooHaw steamed?
[Freebeacon] The National Institutes of Health is spending over $1.7 million on a virtual reality game for young men who have sex with men.
"Tough Talks" is a virtual simulation that allows young gay men to practice how to tell their partner they have HIV, using virtual reality technology. A technology training company‐Georgia-based Virtually Better, Inc.‐as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies are creating the game.
Sixty-seven percent of young gay men do not disclose their HIV status to first-time sex partners, according to the grant behind the study. Researchers see virtual reality as a solution.
"Given the potential benefits and challenges associated with disclosure, there is a need for sophisticated interventions that can assist [men who have sex with men] MSM, with the disclosure process," the grant states. "Virtual reality provides a unique environment for users to practice HIV disclosure."
"Primary outcomes of HIV viral load and condomless anal intercourse (CAI) will be assessed at intervention completion (1 month) and at 6-month follow-up," according to the grant.
The project began during the Obama administration in 2014 and has cost taxpayers $1,788,748 so far. The project will continue through May 2020.
[Daily Caller] Former Brazilian Army captain Jair Bolsonaro was sworn in Tuesday as the president of Brazil and received a prompt congratulations from U.S. President Donald Trump, with whom Bolosonaro is often compared.
"I will work tirelessly so that Brazil reaches its destiny," the new president said at his swearing-in ceremony in front of Brazil’s Congress. "My vow is to strengthen Brazil’s democracy."
Bolsonaro, 63, is often referred to by the media as the "Trump of the Tropics," not only for his provocative statements on issues ranging from gun laws to abortion and immigration, but also for his ability to reach a similar base of Brazilians as Trump did Americans.
"Congratulations to President [Bolsonaro] who just made a great inauguration speech," Trump wrote on Twitter. "[...] the U.S.A. is with you!"
[Guardian] Taiwan independence would lead to "disaster", Chinese president Xi Jinping has said, pledging efforts for peaceful "reunification" with the self-ruled island but warning China would not renounce the use of force.
Speaking at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on the 40th anniversary of a key Taiwan policy statement, Xi said reunification must come under a one-China principle that accepts Taiwan as part of China, anathema to supporters of Taiwan independence.
All people in Taiwan must "clearly recognise that Taiwan independence would only bring profound disaster to Taiwan", Xi said.
"We are willing to create broad space for peaceful reunification, but will leave no room for any form of separatist activities," he said.
"We make no promise to renounce the use of force and reserve the option of taking all necessary means," he said, adding that the issue is China’s internal affair and that it would permit "no external interference".
Taiwan is China’s most sensitive issue and is claimed by Beijing as its sacred territory. Xi has stepped up pressure on the democratically governed island since Tsai Ing-wen from the pro-independence Democratic Progressive party became president in 2016.

The K street and Wall Street cabal may obstruct official American reaction, but the American public will hammer the trade market with a major boycott. See business try to quickly find new suppliers while also trying to relabel their stock. Xi hasn't been around for a major economic collapse. Taiwan will be among the least of his worries.

Seems China would see this coming and either prepare for it somehow, withhold strategic and lifesaving goods and medications, or just wait until they had their own economy which could quickly marginalize the contributions of others that didn't kowtow to them.
[THECONSERVATIVETREEHOUSE] Yesterday we noted how subtle (and not so subtle) messages have been coming out from Beijing China admitting how the party of Chairman Xi underestimated the cunning fortitude of U.S. President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... . Today, a stunning visual is broadcast from inside North Korea which follows the same general outlook.
Remember, nuance and subtle optics are very significant in Eastern projections of political brand messaging. When they present a nationally broadcast message every grain of sand on the optical beach has been thought out, considered, staged and carefully placed by hand with great forethought toward the intended audience. The optics are everything. [That’s also the reason why POTUS Trump used a video presentation (specifically for Kim) at the end of the Singapore summit.]
In an unprecedented international broadcast, North Korea’s Kim Pudge Jong-un ...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished... delivers a message not just to his people, but more specifically to the international community. The backdrop, the venue for the message as broadcast, reflects a stunning shift for the country of North Korea. Notice the background message is ’economic’: Business attire; business office etc. The guiding hand of Chairman Xi is visible, and the transmission is full of messages highlighting the influence of the Trump Doctrine.
It is critical to remember that Chairman Xi (Beijing China), is still the leading influence agent over Chairman Kim (DPRK). That nuanced/subtle (hostage/captive) influence message is also inherent in the background of this broadcast. As the U.S. -vs- China confrontation continues, this video message provides additional support that Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping is no longer underestimating the cunning of POTUS Trump.
Discussions of these geopolitical messages need to be entirely separated from the propaganda explanations provided by U.S. media. U.S. corporate media, advocates for extreme globalism, spin everything into a criticism of President Trump; however, the message here from Kim Jong-un is far more consequential.
Chairman Kim is talking about security issues, denuclearization, weapons, military exercises etc. However, women are made to be loved, not understood... the bigger background message is centered specifically on the economics. Broadly speaking President Trump’s doctrine is: the strategically applied use of economic influence to achieve national security objectives.
That Trump Doctrine, a radical shift in the deployment of U.S. geopolitical influence, is the entire reason why Chairman Kim Jong-un is engaging this speech; in this venue; in this business manner; for this domestic and international broadcast.
Remember also, the clock is ticking.... the deadline for U.S. and China trade negotiations is March 1st, OR ELSE, a massive round of devastating (for China) tariffs kicks in and almost everyone agrees the Chinese economy cannot sustain itself under that pressure. So Chairman Xi needs to use his hostage, Chairman Kim, in this negotiation period.
[*Important point*: South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the primary point of contact for Chairman Kim, is ideologically the Asian political equivalent of Barack Obama They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them... . So that interpersonal dynamic also overlays the issues with a unified Korean peninsula.]

[Huffpoo] French police say they have caught 14 migrants trying to steal a fishing trawler in the port of Boulogne in the latest foiled attempt to cross to the UK.
The suspects include a mother and her two children who say they came from Iraq, according to local prosecutor Pascal Marconville.
Police continue to look for two individuals who they believe were the people smugglers involved in the incident, Marconville told the AFP news agency.
"Those seeking to help them on their way were busy breaking into the trawler" to let them aboard when harbour authorities called police, he said.
It comes after two Border Force vessels were redeployed from overseas to patrol the English Channel in response to the wave of migrants entering the UK by boat. Home Secretary Sajid Javid has called the crossings a "major incident".
[DW] A man has driven a car at groups of pedestrians in the Ruhr cities of Bottrop and Essen, injuring four people. Police say there are indications that the driver is mentally ill and could also hold xenophobic views.
A man drove a car into pedestrians in two neighboring German cities overnight to New Year's Day, injuring four people in what police say could be attacks motivated by the xenophobic attitude of the driver.
Shortly after midnight, the 50-year-old man is reported to have driven a silver Mercedes deliberately at one male pedestrian in Bottrop, who managed to avoid being hit. The driver then continued on toward the inner city, where he rammed into a group of people standing next to the street, injuring at least four, some seriously.
Police say that the victims included Syrian and Afghan nationals.
The man also tried to drive into a group of people waiting at a bus stop in the neighboring Ruhr city of Essen, before he was stopped and arrested by police.
ANTI-FOREIGNER REMARKS
Police said the man, said to live in Essen, made racist comments after he was arrested. They also said they had received information suggesting that the man was suffering from a mental illness.
Herbert Reul, the interior minister of the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in which both cities are situated, said the driver had "the clear intention of killing foreigners" and that the incident "had to be taken very seriously."
He said that intensive investigations were underway.
The case recalls an incident in the city of Münster last Aprilin which a man drove a van into people in a city square, killing four and injuring more than 20. The 48-year-old man then fatally shot himself. Police said the man was mentally ill and had wanted to commit suicide.
[USAToday] Passengers on an Air India Express flight Saturday reportedly got more than they bargained for when a man stripped naked and started walking up and down the aisle of the plane.
News outlet ANI reports the crew on flight IX-194 from Dubai to Lucknow, India, quickly covered the man ‐ who the Times of India identified as simply Surendra ‐ in a blanket, and two crew members kept him seated for the rest of the flight.
When the plane landed, ANI says an Air India spokesperson stated, "per the direction of the captain of the flight, the passenger was handed over to airlines security at Lucknow airport where (an) investigation is underway." The flight was carrying more than 150 passengers. But I guess it's "a thing":
What prompted the man to remove his clothes isn't immediately clear. Air India officials, however, told the Times of India that he was experiencing "mental trauma" after alleged workplace harassment in Dubai by his boss, who he indicated is Pakistani. Tribalism (the ironically unexpected and unannounced last "Multi-Culturalism" port of call) has a bit of a downside?

[Al Jazeera] An unmanned NASA spacecraft has sent a signal back to Earth that it has successfully made it through a risky flyby past the most distant planetary object ever studied, the US space agency said on Tuesday.
NASA rang in the New Year with a historic flyby of the farthest, and quite possibly the oldest, cosmic body ever explored by humankind - a tiny, distant world called Ultima Thule - in the hopes of learning more about how planets took shape.
A series of anxiously awaited "phone home" signals arrived after 10:30am (15:30 GMT), indicating that the spacecraft had made it, intact, through the risky, high-speed encounter.
"We have a healthy spacecraft," said Alice Bowman, missions operations manager for the New Horizons spacecraft, as cheers erupted in the control rooms at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland.
About 10 hours earlier, NASA celebrated the New Year's flyby, at 12:33am (05:33 GMT) when the New Horizons spacecraft aimed its cameras at the space rock 6.4 billion km away in a dark and frigid region of space known as the Kuiper Belt.
