Blue Bell ice cream licker could face 20 years in prison
[NYPOST] The woman filmed licking the top of a Blue Bell ice cream tub and putting it back on the shelf has been identified ‐ and could cool her heels in jail for up to 20 years.

Police in Lufkin, Texas, said Wednesday they believed they had identified the frozen-treat fiend after "detectives had obtained surveillance video placing a woman matching the suspect description in the Lufkin [Walmart] on June 28 around 11 p.m," NBC News reported.

They are waiting to verify her identity before issuing an arrest warrant on second-degree tampering with a consumer product ‐ a felony that carries a prison sentence of 2-20 years and up to $10,000 in fines, according to the Texas state penal code.

The now-viral video shows the woman tonguing some Tin Roof-flavored ice cream ‐ then putting the lid back on and placing it back on the shelf as she cackles.

Dairy detectives are also trying to find the man who apparently filmed the incident and can be heard encouraging the woman to "lick it, lick it."

Local authorities have said they recovered the tainted tub after tracking it to a Walmart in Lufkin.

Posted by: PBMcL || 07/05/2019 16:32 Comments || Top||

#11  Wait.. now that's just excessive.

Permit me to retort.
First, 2 to 20 is the range for the felony of tampering with a consumer product. She has not yet been convicted or sentenced.

Second, what is the cost of her actions? Leaving aside the sacred nature of Blue Bell ice cream in Texas, is it simply a 5 dollar tub of ice cream? Plus the cost of the similar tubs that were destroyed, just in case? The damage to the brand? Tylenol(tm) took a huge hit after a product tampering scare way back when. Is it the loss of social cohesion when we can no longer trust our fellow citizens? On her social media account, she mentioned she had been sick and made a Flu Bell ice cream joke.

Third, punishment serves not just to chastise the perp, but to remind any would-be copycats that an unpleasant fate awaits them. This is worse than minor vandalism. Last thing we need is for it to turn into one of those viral social media challenges.

tl;dr: this sort of behavior chaps my caboose and I hope she gets spanked hard. Pity her parents didn't do it.

Texas fireworks stand robbery goes badly
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 19-year-old who attempted to rob a fireworks stand in north Harris County ended up getting shot in the face with his own gun by one of the stand's employees, according to deputies.

It happened off of the North Freeway and Airtex Drive around 4 p.m. Thursday. According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the suspect approached the stand and began demanding money.

They say an employee went to grab cash and placed it on the counter. The suspect placed the gun down and tried to pick up the cash.

That's when deputies say the employee picked up the gun and shot him in the face.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital. It's unclear if he's expected to survive.

This is a developing story. Stay with Eyewitness News for updates.

Blue Bell, cops close in on solving viral ice cream licking prank
[NYPOST] Ice cream maker Blue Bell says it’s found the exact tub of ice cream that was licked ‐ and then put back on the shelf ‐ by a frozen-treat fiend in a now-viral video.

The dairy detectives pored over the social media post and narrowed their search to a Walmart in Lufkin, Texas, where they believe the crime against chew-manity went down.

"Based on security footage, the location and the inspection of the carton, we believe we may have recovered the half gallon that was tampered with," Blue Bell said, according to local station KTV-TV.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we have also removed all Tin Roof half gallons from that location."

Local authorities, conducting their own investigation, confirmed a woman was caught on store surveillance video tonguing a half-gallon tub last Friday at about 11 p.m.

"Once her identity is verified, detectives will proceed with getting a warrant for her arrest on a charge of second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product," the Lufkin Police Department said in a Wednesday night Facebook post.

Pro-Palestinian activist filmed in racist drunk rant found dead
[IsraelTimes] A disgraced anti-Israel activist from Britannia who was tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for staging a rowdy and racist scene aboard an airplane has been found dead in what police are treating as a suicide.

The lifeless body of Simone Burns, 50, also known as Simone O’Broin, was found last month on a beach, the Daily Telegraph reports. Sussex Police confirmed her death "is not being treated as suspicious" and next of kin have been informed, the report says.

Last year, she was filmed threatening to boycott Air India unless she was served more wine on the business class flight from Mumbai to London.

She was filmed spitting in the face of one steward and shouting that she was "an international criminal lawyer for the f***ing Paleostinian people" in an inebriated rant.

During her four-minute rant, which was filmed and uploaded to social networks where it went viral, she called a female crew member "Indian f***ing money grabbing bastard," shouting that she will "turn you inside f***ing out, you f***ing stupid c***s."
The video can be seen at the link.
A friend of Burns told the Telegraph that her "world fell apart" following the conviction.
Some worlds ought not to remain whole. But she chose suicide instead of learning from the experience.

Entitlement 'flash mob' steals $30,000 in merchandise from outdoor wear store (video)
PLEASANT PRAIRIE ‐ Police are looking for what has been characterized as a "flash mob" of males who entered the North Face store at Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets Monday, taking more than $30,000 in merchandise from the business.

The incident happened at 7:45 p.m. Monday at the store at 11601 108th St., Suite 577, when "10 black males entered the store and each grabbed as much merchandise as they could carry before running to the cars and leaving the property," said Sgt. Aaron Schaffer of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department. Items included jackets and other articles of clothing. There was no physical confrontation.

Schaffer said the suspects, who remain at large, were in the store for approximately 20 to 30 seconds before fleeing the scene.

The theft occurred about an hour before the store’s regular closing time.

#6  I think it's Columbia that has the old mom CEO and son sidekick who are commies. North Face I think is just a front end for sweatshop manufacturing in China and Vietnam. Either way, white people wearing it are signalling they are (in their own minds) "better than you." The mob kids will look very out of place wearing that stuff back in da hood. But it's probably not the coppers' biggest problem there, so don't expect much remediation.

One would think this is a great opening for someone to write an AI routine that watches a store / brand's occurrences in anti-social media and automatically locks the doors.

Tiger Chases After Motorcycle in Terrifying Viral Video
[MSN] Two people have escaped with their lives after being chased down by a tiger in India in a harrowing incident captured on video.
"Faster, Hurree Babu! Faster! He's gaining on us!"
As seen in a clip shared by the Forests and Wildlife Protection Society on Saturday, the pair are riding on one cycle of violence when the animal emerges from the trees surrounding the road and gives chase.

The tiger gets very close to the back of the bike on the road before peeling off into the trees, as the two humans can be heard exclaiming in worried tones.

"A Tiger is seen chasing a bike in Muthanga Wildlife Safari in Wayanad in Kerala," the FAWPS captioned the 9-second video. "Is this how the Tiger Parks are managed in India?"

A moderator from FAWPS told the Hindustan Times that the two individuals on the cycle of violence were officials from the Forest Department who had gone to patrol the area after reports of a tiger sighting.

Comments on the video ‐ which has gone viral since its posting, sitting at over 2,700 reactions, 1,200 comments and 10,000 shares as of Thursday morning ‐ranged from horrified to humorous.

Britain
Britain seizes Iran oil tanker attempting to violate Syrian sanctions
[The Hill] British marines reportedly seized an Iranian oil tanker Thursday for attempting to transport oil to Syria in violation of European Union sanctions.

The tanker was impounded in Gibraltar on the southern tip of Spain after sailing around Africa, according to Reuters.

Though the ship flies a Panama flag and is listed as managed by a Singaporean company, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador to declare "its very strong objection to the illegal and unacceptable seizure."

The Gibraltar government said it had good reason to believe the tanker was carrying crude oil to the Baniyas refinery in Syria.

"That refinery is the property of an entity that is subject to European Union sanctions against Syria," Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo told Reuters. "With my consent, our port and law enforcement agencies sought the assistance of the Royal Marines in carrying out this operation."

Europe has banned oil shipments to Syria since the start of its civil war in 2011 but has never before seized a tanker.

"This is the first time that the EU has done something so public and so aggressive. I imagine it was also coordinated in some manner with the U.S. given that NATO member forces have been involved," Matthew Oresman, a partner with law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman who advises firms on sanctions, told Reuters.

Venezuela's army death squads kill thousands - UN
[DW] A UN report has detailed the extrajudicial executions of thousands of young men by special forces. The report says that the death squads are carrying out President Maduro's strategy for neutralizing political opponents.

Venezuelan security forces have been sending death squads to commit extrajudicial killings of young men, according to a United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
report released on Thursday. The scene of the crimes are then staged to make it look like the victims were resisting arrest.
Los RAB
Caracas has said that about 5,287 people died last year when they refused to be detained by officers, and that this has been the case for a further 1,569 through the middle of May this year. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
the UN report suggests that many of these deaths were actually extrajudicial executions.

The report relays the accounts of 20 families, who say that masked men dressed in black from the Special Actions Forces (FAES) arrived at their homes in black vehicles without license plates. They then broke into their houses, assaulted the women and girls and stole belongings.

"They would separate young men from other family members before shooting them," the report said.

"In every case, witnesses reported how FAES manipulated the scene of the crime and evidence. They would plant arms and drugs and fire their weapons against the walls or in the air to suggest a confrontation and to show the victim had 'resisted authority.'"

Russia says submarine hit by fire was nuclear-powered
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Thursday that a top-secret military submarine that was hit by a fatal fire on board earlier this week was nuclear-powered.
I thought they said that when it was first reported?
In comments published on the Kremlin’s website, Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
that the incident that killed 14 sailors was caused by a fire in the battery compartment and that the nuclear reactor on board had been completely isolated.

The blaze marks the most serious Russian naval accident since 2008, when 20 crew members died aboard the nuclear-powered Nerpa submarine in the Pacific Fleet when a firefighting system was accidentally initiated.

China-Japan-Koreas
Australian Student Detained in N. Korea 'Released, Safe'
[AnNahar] A 29-year-old Australian student detained in North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
surfaced in Beijing airport on Thursday, saying he was in "very good" spirits after being released.

Alek Sigley -- one of a handful of Westerners living and studying in North Korea -- disappeared without a trace around June 23, prompting a week of deep concern and frantic speculation about his fate.

For days Sigley's family received no word about his whereabouts or wellbeing, stoking fears he may have been the latest in a long line of foreigners to become entangled in North Korea's police state.

Then, with little warning, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday told politicians that Sigley had "been released from detention in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" and that "he is safe and well".

Sigley's father Gary, a professor of Chinese and Asian studies, told media in Australia that the family was "extremely pleased he is safe and sound".

The father admitted he had missed a call from his son because he had been busy "shopping" but hoped to give him a "big hug and kiss" soon.

Alek Sigley's detention came just days before a G20 summit and a landmark meeting between President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
and North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
Trump was intimately involved in the case of University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier, who was imprisoned during a tour of the authoritarian state in 2016.

Doctors said Warmbier suffered severe brain damage while in detention, fell into a coma and died days after arriving back in the United States, aged 22.

Sigley was much more familiar with the country and spoke fluent Korean.

He ran tours to North Korea and a number of social media sites, which usually had a stream of apolitical content about everyday life in one of the world's most secretive nations.

His blog posts focused on everyday life in Pyongyang -- everything from the city's dining scene to North Korean app reviews.

"He is always trying to demystify North Korea, unlike the typical Western media. He tries to understand the people there," his 26-year-old Japanese wife Yuka Morinaga had said.

The pair married in a lavish ceremony in Pyongyang last year.

The case was complicated by Australia's lack of diplomatic representation in North Korea.

Morrison thanked Sweden for its diplomatic help in securing Sigley's release.

Earlier this week Swedish special envoy Kent Harstedt had travelled to Pyongyang, where he raised the issue with North Korean authorities.

"I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Swedish authorities for their invaluable assistance in securing Alek's prompt release," Morrison said, hailing it as a triumph of "behind the scenes" diplomacy.

Sigley is now at the Australian embassy in Beijing and later on Thursday is expected to travel to Japan, where his wife still lives.

"He's safe on Aussie soil at our embassy in Beijing," Morrison said.

Arrests in Hong Kong raise fears of more violent protests
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Hong Kong pro-democracy politician expressed fears on Thursday that the situation could worsen after police announced the arrests of more than a dozen people following protests earlier this week.

Legislative Council member Claudia Mo called on people to understand the frustration and anger of the mostly youthful protesters, even if they have technically broken the law.

"I am terribly worried that a massive kind of round-up of protesters could trigger very negative sentiment on the part of the young," she told news hounds.

"Things could get worse," she added.

Police have announced the arrest of 12 people who tried to disrupt a ceremony on Monday marking the anniversary of Hong Kong’s return from Britannia to China in 1997. Another person was arrested for his alleged involvement in the storming of the legislature building that night.

The city’s legislature will not be able to meet for three months because of the extensive damage by the protesters, pro-democracy politician Helena Wong said.

She said the fire prevention and electronic voting systems need to be repaired and restored. She also said that computer hard discs had been taken from the security control room, with the names, photos and titles of those who had building access.

A man surnamed Poon has been charged with assaulting police, criminal destruction, misconduct in public places and forced entry of the Legislative Council complex, police said on Thursday. More arrests seem likely, given the extent of the damage.

Eleven men and a woman were arrested over the Monday morning protest. They face various charges including possession of offensive weapons, unlawful assembly, assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer and failing to carry an identity document. The brief statement did not provide further details.

Economy
U.S. job growth seen accelerating, rate cut still expected
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. job growth likely rebounded in June, with wage gains expected to pick up, but that would probably not be enough to discourage the Federal Reserve from cutting interest rates this month amid growing evidence the economy is slowing.

Lack of concrete progress in resolving an acrimonious trade war between the United States and China was also seen forcing the U.S. central bank’s hand, regardless of a strong employment report from the Labor Department on Friday. The Fed last month signaled it could ease monetary policy as early as July, citing low inflation as well as growing risks to the economy from an escalation in trade tensions between Washington and Beijing.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week agreed to a trade truce and a return to talks. White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said on Tuesday talks were heading in the right direction, but it would take time to get the right deal made. The trade fight has undercut business confidence, leading to a downturn in equipment spending and manufacturing.

Government
$40,000. sign-on bonus for US Army Infantry recruits
[Task & Purpose] FORT KNOX, Kentucky -- U.S. Army recruiters are offering bonuses worth up to $40,000 to new recruits who sign up for the infantry by Sept. 30 as part of an effort to reverse a shortage of grunts for fiscal 2019.

The drastic increase in bonus amounts for recruits in 11X, the infantry military occupational specialty, went into effect in mid-May, according to U.S. Army Recruiting Command officials, who said that the service still needs to fill about 3,300 infantry training seats by Sept. 30.

"We saw this coming in May; we immediately went to the senior leadership and said, 'look, we need to max out the bonuses for 11Xs,'" Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, commander of Army Recruiting Command, told Military.com Tuesday.

"If you sign up to be 11X and you sign a six-year commitment -- $40,000."

Before May, the maximum bonus amount for infantry recruits was $15,000 for a six-year commitment.

Last summer, the Army ran a pilot at Fort Benning, Georgia that resulted in the service extending infantry one station unit training (OSUT) from 14 weeks to 22 weeks. The extended infantry training is designed to give soldiers more time to practice key infantry skills such as land navigation, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, fire and maneuver and first aid training.
