Attackers Storm Afghan VP Candidate’s Office, Two Killed, IED Defused Earlier
[ToloNews] Eyewitnesses said the attack happened near Shaheed Circle and that other blasts were also heard from the area.

The office of the second vice presidential candidate for President Ghani's election campaign in Kabul's police district 4 (PD4) in Shaheed Circle came under attack by at least four attackers at around 4:40 pm on Sunday evening.

The attack started with a boom-mobileing followed by gunbattle by four attackers, the Ministry of Interior's front man Nusrat Rahimi confirmed.

The attackers targeted the Green Trend office, a political movement run by former NDS chief and vice-presidential candidate Amrullah Saleh.

Rahimi said that Mr. Saleh was "evacuated from the building and moved to a safe location."

He said that while the gunbattle was still ongoing, the first and second floors of the building had been cleared by security forces.

At least 40 people who were stuck inside the building were rescued during the clearance operation, Rahimi said.

He said two attackers were still inside and that two button men had been killed in the shootout.

Wahidullah Mayar, a front man for Ministry of Public Health, said that at least two people were killed and 25 others were maimed in the attack on Green Trend office in Kabul.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
also tweeted that Saleh was unharmed in the "complex attack" targeting the Green Trend party headquarters.

The blast was large enough to be heard throughout the capital.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack.
Al Ahram adds:
A powerful explosion hit central Kabul on Sunday, wounding Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani's running mate in the upcoming election and killing at least two others, officials said. Saleh was maimed by shrapnel before being safely evacuated from the office of his Afghan Green Trend Party.

Saleh is an uncompromising opponent of the Taliban and other hardline Islamist groups.

Saleh, who commands strong support among Afghanistan’s minority ethnic Tajiks, was not immediately available for comment.

The airstrikes on the airbase also destroyed a number of planes and military equipment, Sputnik said.

Sputnik reported Avia.pro website - specialized in aviation - said the (Il-76) planes were for Alfa Air firm, which is based in Ukraine's capital Kiev.

The firm has five Il76 cargo planes that were produced between 1990 and 1992.

Libya's Air Force under the command of Presidential Council's government hit Friday al-Jufra airbase and destroyed an ammunition depot, military cargo plane and drones for Haftar's forces.

The General Staff of the Libyan Army said al-Jufra airbase has become a hub to gather mercenaries fighting for Haftar's forces in their war on Tripoli.

Africa Subsaharan
Death toll in Nigeria Boko Haram attack up to 65
Follow up to this report from yesterday.
[PULSE.NG] An attack this weekend by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters on a funeral in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
has left 65 people dead, almost triple the initial toll, a local official said Sunday.

The leader of a local anti-Boko Haram militia confirmed the corpse count, while giving a slightly different account of the attack.

Bunu Bukar Mustapha told AFP 23 people were killed as they returned from the funeral and "the remaining 42 were killed when they pursued the terrorists".

Bulama said he thought the latest attack was in retaliation for the killing two weeks ago of 11 Boko Haram fighters by local residents when the fighters approached their village. The residents also captured 10 automatic rifles.

Boko Haram fighters have repeatedly attacked the surrounding Nganzai district.
ABC News adds:
It was the deadliest extremist attack against civilians in the region this year.

Muhammad Bulama, council chairman of the Nganzai local government area, told reporters that 11 other people were wounded during the attack at midday Saturday.

He called it a reprisal after villagers and civilian self-defense forces fought off a Boko Haram ambush in the area two weeks ago, killing 11 extremists.

Nigerians last week marked the grim 10-year anniversary of the Boko Haram insurgency, which has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced millions and created one of the world's largest humanitarian crises. The extremists are known for mass abductions of schoolgirls and putting young women and men into suicide vests for attacks on markets, mosques and other high-traffic areas.

India-Pakistan
Panic grips Kashmir following troop mobilization reports
[ARABNEWS] India’s decision to send an additional 10,000 paramilitaries to the Kashmire Valley on Saturday has drawn sharp reaction from the troubled region.

There are fears the deployment foreshadows possible violence in the event that article 35A of the constitution, that gives special privileges to the people of Kashmire, is scrapped.

The decision to send additional troops comes days after the visit of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to the region.

The Home Ministry said on Saturday that additional troops were being sent for "counter insurgency" operations and to maintain "law and order."

Media reports suggest there are now around 700,000 troops, including the Indian Army personnel, paramilitary forces and state police, stationed in Kashmire.

"The decision to deploy an additional 10,000 troops has created fear," said Mehbooba Mufti, a former chief minister and the leader of the People’s Democratic Party.

"There is no shortage of security forces in Kashmire. Jammu and Kashmire is a political problem which won’t be solved by military means. The Indian government needs to rethink and overhaul its policy," he added.

"The additional deployment is not a good sign ‐ people are in panic, fearing the scrapping of articles 370 and 35A," said Ali Mohammad Sagar of the National Conference party. "Time and again we have said that dialogue is the only way to solve the problem. The Indian government should listen."

Local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. Hina Bhat said: "The deployment of the troops does not indicate that special provisions of the constitution are going to be scrapped. I don’t think you need special forces to contain the reaction, the existing armed forces have enough heft to handle any eventuality.
An Nahar adds:
The region has seen a resurgence of hostilities in recent years, while locals are fearful about the loss of special privileges after India's Supreme Court last year began hearing a case challenging a constitutional provision.

Officials said the movement of troops -- set to rise to 20,000 -- was to relieve exhausted personnel deployed since local civic polls last year and now monitoring an annual Hindu pilgrimage.

"Troops have been working constantly for seven months. Some have to go on leave and some for training outside," Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh told AFP.

"We have requisitioned for 200 companies (20,000 troops), more might arrive."

#1  Mehbooba Mufti, the ex-chief minister is an ex because she was a separatist sharia-monger in disguise as a liberal leader, gaming the democratic system to support her ISI masters. She's one of the local leaders Pakistain promises the keys to 'New Kashmir' to, once it's 'free'.

The 'troops' are just police corps. No military deployment here. The new battalions are relieving guys who've been subject to the intifad dwindling now, reduced to spittle and stares really for almost a year now.

Article 35A will be scrapped, but not with a bang. The kashmiris will capitulate with a whimper, but first their capabilities to retaliate need to be wrested from them. I already have property picked out for a summer retreat.

Iraqi intelligence reportedly thwarts massive terror plot
[Rudaw] Iraqi military intelligence may have foiled a giant terror plot targeting the Kurdistan Region, Baghdad and Basra.

Abu Ali al-Basri, head of the intelligence body known as Falcons Cell, told the state-owned Assabah newspaper that the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) was planning its biggest attack of 2019.

"The aim of those attacks by ISIS was to show everybody that they are still alive and exist," al-Basri told the newspaper.
Iraqi forces reportedly thwarted the attack by destroying several ISIS bases with air support, as well as killing and arresting ISIS turbans, according to the al-Basri's statement to Assabah.

Iraq announced victory over ISIS in December 2017, however the group has continued to carry out small-scale attacks in the country, especially in territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad. ISIS is also still active in the desert Syria-Iraq border area following their defeat in Syria in March of this year.

In an attempt to squash the lingering ISIS threat, the Iraqi government announced the "Will of Victory" operation on July 7. The operation aims to clear the Iraqi desert areas of Anbar, djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Salahaddin of ISIS remnants.
The operation is a collaboration between the Baghdad Operations Command, the Federal Police, the Army, intelligence services, the Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitary forces (PMFs), the Air Force and the US-led international anti-ISIS coalition forces.

Al-Basri told Assabah the Falcons Cell arrested 160 ISIS murderous Moslems in Mosul, 40 in Baghdad and another two in Basra in relation to the plot.

The head policeman in the Nineveh province, where Mosul is located, did not confirm the figures in Assabah, but said his forces have arrested hundreds of ISIS fighters recently.

"We are continuously arresting ISIS snuffies in Nineveh, and for the past five months, we have arrested more than 600 ISIS snuffies in Mosul and its surroundings," Hamad Namis told Rudaw English.

Kurdistan Region security forces, known as the Asayish, declined to comment to Rudaw on the reported operation.

In May, a US Defense Department told the US think tank Center for a New American Security that around 10,000 ISIS fighters and supporters remain in Iraq and Syria. Since the loss of their territory, they have resorted to holy warrior tactics including bombings, ambushes, kidnapping, extortion, and arson in Iraq.

One Palestinian Tango Uniform, 56 Wounded At Weekly Gaza Festivities
[Jerusalem Post] One 23-year-old Palestinian died of his wounds of Friday and 56 more were wounded from IDF fire during the latest weekly Gaza protest along the border fence, according to Palestinian Healthy Ministry reports.

The report said that 38 were injured by live ammunition fire; some 22 of the injured were children and three were women.

Thousands gathered along the Gaza border fence on Friday for the weekly "March of Return" protests.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Thursday that the Palestinian leadership has decided to "halt" all agreements signed with Israel, and has reached out to Hamas offering to end the dispute between the movement and his ruling Fatah faction.

However, Abbas did not say how the PA would "halt work" related to the agreements signed between the Palestinians and Israel.

Last week, the Palestinian Health Ministry said that 34 protesters were injured, including a 17-year-old who was seriously wounded after being hit in the stomach by IDF fire.

Thousands of Gazans have been protesting along the security fence on a weekly basis taking part in the March of Return demonstrations, which began March 30, 2018.

Two children lightly hurt in West Bank stoning attack
[IsraelTimes] Two Israeli children were lightly injured when their car was hit by stones outside the northern West Bank settlement of Karnei Shomron late Saturday night.

An 11-year-old boy suffered a head wound and a 8 year-old-girl had cuts to her face from glass shards, the Hatzalah rescue service said.

They were treated by Israel Defense Forces medics, according to the rescue service. A baby in the car was also hit by flying glass but did not require treatment.

Police opened an investigation into the suspected attack, the Walla news site reported.

Grove damaged
Earlier in the day, a Paleostinian landowner from the village of Yasuf, also in the northern West Bank, reported that at least 70 of his olive trees had been intentionally damaged, the Yesh Din rights group said.

The group said a short standoff ensued with an Israeli soldier while trying to document the damage. The standoff ended when a police officer arrived.

Four killed in attack on military post in Thai south
[AFP] Four people were killed in a late-night attack by Muslim insurgents on a military outpost in southern Thailand, as dramatic footage emerged showing security forces diving for cover from a hail of gunfire and a grenade blast.

Late on Tuesday, militants struck the remote base in Pattani province, throwing grenades and laying down nearly an hour of automatic fire. Military spokesman Thanawee Suwannarat said, "Four people were killed - an army sergeant-major, two defense volunteers and a villager."

In the CCTV footage, security forces are seen scattering and diving to the ground as gunfire and an explosion erupt around them. The insurgents stole five machine guns, burnt tires and scattered spikes on the road as they fled to hinder any chase.

Confirming the death toll, a police officer said two other people were in hospital in critical condition, in one of the deadliest single incidents to hit the region in months.

[PhilStar] After 17 years in hiding, two suspected Abu Sayyaf rebel were arrested recently by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Metro Manila for their alleged role in a 2002 kidnapping case. Anwar Sabarul Mohotoh and Julmain Maomar Timbao were apprehended in Quiapo, Manila, and Culiat, Quezon City on July 12 and 17, respectively.

NBI deputy director Eric Distor said Mohotoh and Timbao were among 13 alleged Abu Sayyaf militants arrested by the NBI since February. The Pasig City regional trial court had issued warrants for the arrest of the suspects for the kidnapping of six Jehovah’s Witness members. The suspects beheaded two of the victims.

Mohotoh posed as a pedicab driver and Timbao opened a food stall in their efforts to hide from authorities by integrating with the community. Mohotoh, believed to be a nephew of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon, had planned to stage bombings in Metro Manila and to extort business establishments, according to NBI counterterrorism division chief Raoul Mangerra.

Timbao, a bomb-making expert, is reportedly a member of the Abu Sayyaf Urban Terrorist Group-Special Operations Unit and a trusted associate of Hapilon. He reportedly accompanied Hapilon’s son and Abu Sayyaf spokesman Abu Sabaya to and from Marawi.

Authorities have yet to establish if Timbao was involved in the 2017 Marawi siege staged by the Maute group.

British warship arrives in Gulf to escort UK-flagged vessels
[IsraelTimes] A Royal Navy warship has arrived in the Persian Gulf to accompany British-flagged ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, amid tensions after Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
seized a British tanker this month.

Britannia’s Ministry of Defense says that the HMS Duncan will join the Frigate HMS Montrose in the Gulf to defend freedom of navigation.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace says the Royal Navy will escort UK vessels until a diplomatic resolution is found to secure the route again.

The British-flagged Stena Impero oil tanker was seized in the Strait of Hormuz a week ago. Some senior Iranian officials have suggested the ship was seized in retaliation for the British navy’s role in seizing an Iranian supertanker off the coast of Gibraltar for violations of EU sanctions on oil sales to Syria.

UK says British soldier who died fighting IS in Syria was killed by friendly fire
[IsraelTimes] Officials say a British special forces soldier who died fighting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group in Syria was killed by friendly fire, rather than in a roadside kaboom as previously believed.

Sgt. Matt Tonroe died in March 2018 alongside US commando Master Sergeant Jonathan J. Dunbar while on a joint operation in Manbij, northern Syria, with American special forces. The Pentagon had said they died from improvised bombs.

But Sherlocks have concluded that Tonroe, 33, was killed by an explosive carried by a colleague.

Britannia’s Defense Ministry says that while "it was initially believed that Sgt. Tonroe was killed by enemy action," a subsequent investigation concluded he was killed by "the accidental detonation of explosives carried by coalition forces."
