Afghan official: Hundreds of IS members, family detained
[AlAhram] The Afghan government said Saturday it has detained about 700 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group fighters and family members in eastern Afghanistan over the past six months.

The Afghan intelligence service, the National Directorate for Security, said among the 700 are at least 75 women and 159 children. Many of the group are from foreign countries. Many were arrested, but some turned themselves in.

The NDS said all of the fighters and family members were transported to the NDS compound in Kabul. Earlier, security forces had surrounded dozens of remaining fighters in their homes in various districts in the region. The NDS said the operation was ongoing.

There was no way to independently confirm that the prisoners the government presented to news hounds and photographers at the NDS compound Saturday are affiliated with the Islamic State group.

Most of the arrested IS members are from Pakistain, Jordan and Central Asian countries, said an NDS officer who asked that his name not be used as agency rules don't allow him to be identified.

As many as 277 foreigners are among the arrested holy warriors, he said.

Washington's peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad tweeted earlier this month that IS in eastern Afghanistan has been weakened by operations carried out not just by the U.S. and Afghan forces, but by the Taliban

Eastern Libyan forces seize ship with a Turkish crew
[Jpost] Eastern Libyan forces seized a Grenada-flagged ship with a Ottoman Turkish crew on Saturday off the Libyan coast, a front man said, amid rising tensions with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
, which supports the rival and internationally recognized Libyan government in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Turkey's parliament on Saturday approved a security and military cooperation deal signed with Tripoli government last month, state media reported, an agreement that could pave the way for military help from Ankara.

A National Libyan Army forces naval combat vessel stopped the ship in Libyan territorial waters off the eastern city of Derna and towed it to Ras El Hilal port "for inspection and to verify its cargo," front man Ahmed Mismari told Rooters. He gave no further details.

The eastern forces loyal to commander Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
provided Rooters with a video that shows Libyan navy forces stopping the ship and questioning three crew members. They also published copies of passports of three Ottoman Turkish nationals.

It was not immediately clear what the ship was carrying. Ankara has sent military supplies to Libya in violation of a United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
arms embargo, according to a report by U.N. experts seen by Rooters last month.

Turkey has been backing the Libyan Government of National Accord led by Fayez al-Serraj as it fights off a months-long offensive by Haftar's forces.

Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said Turkey could deploy troops to Libya in support of the GNA, but no request has been made.

France kills 33 militants in Mali raid: president
ABIDJAN/BAMAKO (Reuters) - French forces killed 33 Islamist militants in Mali on Saturday using attack helicopters, ground troops and a drone, near the border with Mauritania where a group linked to al Qaeda operates, French authorities said.

The raid about 150 km (90 miles) northwest of Mopti in Mali targeted the same forest area where France wrongly claimed last year it had killed Amadou Koufa,
...Salafist preacher and leader of the Macina Liberation Front, one of the local groups within Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Moslemin (JNIM), the regional umbrella affiliated with Al Qaeda in North Africa. MLF draws from the cattle-herding Fulani tribe extant in Mali, Niger, and Nigeria, which appeared in 2015 for the purpose of jihading against the farming tribes of Dogon and Bambara...
one of the most senior Islamist militants being hunted by French forces in the Sahel.

A spokesman for the French army’s chief of staff declined to say at this stage whether Koufa was the target this time.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the operation in a speech to the French community in Ivory Coast’s main city of Abidjan, describing it as a major success.

"This morning ... we were able to neutralize 33 terrorists, take one prisoner and free two Malian gendarmes who had been held hostage," Macron said, a day after visiting French troops stationed in Ivory Coast.

In Saturday’s raid, soldiers aboard Tiger attack helicopters used a Reaper drone to guide them to the forest area where Koufa’s group Katiba Macina operates, French army command said.

Koufa is one of the top deputies to Iyad Ag Ghali, the leader of Mali’s most prominent jihadi group, Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), which has repeatedly attacked soldiers and civilians in Mali and neighboring Burkina Faso.

The United Nations, France and the United States have poured billions of dollars into stabilizing the Sahel, an arid region of West Africa south of the Sahara desert, but with little success.

France, the former colonial power in a number of West African countries, has more than 4,000 soldiers in the region in its counter-terrorism taskforce Operation Barkhane. The United Nations has a 13,000-strong peacekeeping operation in Mali.

Five women with alleged links to ISIS surrender to Turkish forces: state media
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish state media reported Friday the rare "surrender" of five women wanted by Ottoman Turkish forces for their alleged links to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) in Syria.

The state-owned Anadolu Agency (AA) reported that the "terrorists" handed themselves in at the Cilvegozu border crossing in Hatay province on the Ottoman Turkish-Syrian border, citing local sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Their nationalities and role in the terror group are unknown.

While frontline positions were reserved for men, women are known for playing prominent roles in ISIS as online recruiters and member of the Hisba, a morality police brigade notorious for its brutality against civilians. There are also ongoing court cases in the US and Germany against women accused of involvement in the enslavement of Yezidi women and girls.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
has detained 2,280 members of the terror group from 30 different countries, according to Ottoman Turkish officials, and has begun deporting them to their countries of origin.

It has also arrested several relatives of late ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, including his sister.

Turkey is a member of the Global Coalition against ISIS but has been accused of sheltering members of the terror group. Several members of proxy groups used by Turkey in its Operation Peace Spring in northeast Syria are said to be ISIS krazed killers.

Turkey support the Coalition through "hosting Coalition assets in its bases, participating in air operations and targeting terrorist elements in Syria; diminishing the financing and recruiting capabilities of ISIS [ISIS]; and delivering aid and providing shelter for displaced Syrians," according to Turkey’s profile on the Coalition’s website.

It has carried out hundreds of "military and counter-terrorism operations" since 2016, according to the Coalition.

ISIS was recognized as a terrorist organization by Ankara in 2013 and the group has conducted 10 suicide kabooms, seven explosions and four armed attacks since then, killing at least 315 people, according to AA records.

Most of the ISIS-linked women - whose husbands were either killed or escaped after the group’s last bastion Baghouz in Syria was controlled by Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in March 2019 - now live in the notorious al-Hol camp in Hasaka province.

The women have reportedly formed groups inside the camp trying to implement the ISIS version of Islamic Sharia law, and have attacked camp guards.

Nearly 100 MS-13 Gang Members Busted in Long Island, Including Illegal Aliens
[BREITBART] Nearly 100 members of the MS-13 gang have been arrested and charged with various crimes by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Long Island, New York ‐ a historic crackdown on the violent El Salvadoran gang.

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini announced on Friday that a 23-month investigation into the MS-13 gang’s ten cliques on Long Island had resulted in the arrests of 96 MS-13 gang members, including illegal aliens and those who were able to legally enter the United States.

Those 96 MS-13 gang members, whose ages range from 16 to 59-years-old, come from nine of the region’s ten cliques, and the investigation has led to more than 230 arrests of MS-13 gang members in New York state, nationwide, and in El Salvador.

Evidence was recovered as part of the investigation, including ten kilograms of cocaine, 1,000 fentanyl pills, 11 guns, and numerous machetes ‐ the MS-13 gang’s preferred weapon for slaughtering victims. Tuni said:

As we know, MS-13 is a ruthless, savage gang which commits acts of violence to recruit, retain, and control its members and exact Dire Revenge on its rivals, as well as to extort innocent members of our community. They engage in various acts of criminality to generate money, including drug dealing, and they send portions of that money back to their leadership ... in El Salvador.

Most prominently, Tuni said the investigation has "helped end" MS-13’s "New York Program," wherein gang leaders in El Salvador had sent hundreds of El Salvadoran nationals to Long Island to build a "greater presence" in Long Island. The investigation also aided in stopping seven murder plots and other plans by MS-13 gang members to commit violence.

Last month, Tuni convened a special grand jury that issued an indictment against 64 of the 96 MS-13 gang members arrested. Those 64 members include nine leaders of the gang. The indictment comes with 77 counts of conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree assault, gang assault, operating as a major trafficker of guns and drugs, and criminal sale of drugs.

More charges are expected in the coming months.

Federal officials note that every year, the Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) program is widely used by the MS-13 gang to import illegal alien members into the country. Annually, about 22,000 potential recruits for the MS-13 gang are resettled throughout the country by the federal government.

Jordan, Egypt faulted for deaths of US-trained sniffer dogs
WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ Bomb-detection dogs sent by the United States to Jordan and Egypt got sick and in some cases died because of improper care, according to a State Department report released Friday.

The State Department Office of Inspector General recommended that two U.S. agencies stop sending the specially trained dogs to the two countries until they have plans in place to make sure they are taken care of and monitored to ensure their well-being.

The two agencies, the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Bureau of Counter-terrorism, agreed to the recommendation and said earlier this month they had taken actions to protect the dogs, according to the OIG. The agencies had resisted halting the program when an initial report on the subject was released in September.

The State Department has sent more than 200 dogs to various countries overseas to help prevent terrorism over the past 20 years.

The September OIG report raised concerns about Jordan and found "ongoing health and welfare concerns among dogs deployed to Jordan," which is the largest recipient of the dogs in the explosive-detection program. The report released Friday was an update issued after investigators learned of continuing problems and additional deaths.

Hundreds of jihadists killed and wounded in failed southeast Idlib attack: Russia
[ALMASDARNEWS] The commander of the Russian Reconciliation Center, Major-General Yuri Borenkov, stated on Friday that about 300 button men tried to advance towards the town of Sinjar and clashed with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in southeast Idlib.

"At 22:05 on December 19, about 400 hard boyz from the Ansar al-Tawhid organization and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, backed by armored cars and four-wheel drive vehicles equipped with machine guns, attacked the positions of the Syrian Army in the Zarzour area in order to try to advance towards the town of Abu Dali in the Idlib Governorate," the Russian commander said.

On another axis, about 300 button men attempted to advance towards the town of Sinjar in southeast Idlib, despite the large presence of Syrian Army troops in the area.

In an interview about the details of the attack, Borenkov said: "At 21:45 on December 19, after preemptive bombing, 300 holy warriors from Ansar al-Tawhid and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, with heavy armory, attempted to advance to Sinjar."

He explained that the button men "clashed with the Syrian Army’s defenses about 1.5 km from the town, and were repelled after heavy artillery and air force strikes."

The commander of the reconciliation center confirmed that the attack was repulsed after several hours of fighting and the arrival of reinforcements.

The holy warriors ’attack in Idlib Governorate resulted in the death of 17 Syrian military personnel, the injury of 42 others, and the killing and injury of about 200 holy warriors.

Thousands flee bombardment in Syria, head to Turkish border
[Jpost] Syrian state media said the Syrian army had pushed into several villages southeast of Idlib.

Thousands of people have fled to the Ottoman Turkish border from the last big opposition stronghold in northwestern Syria because of an intensified bombardment by Russian forces and the Syrian army, residents and rescue workers said on Friday.

A long line of vehicles was seen on Friday leaving the opposition-held city of Maarat al Numan which has borne the brunt of the attacks, which included air strikes, they said.

"The exodus is in the thousands. It's a humanitarian catastrophe, we are seeing people walking in the streets and people waiting near the homes for cars to take them out," said Osama Ibrahim, a rescue worker from Maarat al Numan.

Air strikes killed six people overnight in Maarat al Numan and 11 were killed in villages in the area, rescue teams said.

Hundreds of people have been killed this year in attacks on residential areas in the region, according to U.N. agencies, though a Syrian and Russian military campaign launched at the end of April had subsided in August under a fragile ceasefire.

Syrian state media said the Syrian army had pushed into several villages southeast of Idlib.

Rebel fighters, who say the Russian and Syrian forces are implementing a scorched earth policy as they advance, said villages seized included Um Jalal in southern Idlib province and Rabea and Harbiya in eastern Idlib.
