[ToloNews] Amid a wave of assassinations in the Afghan capital Kabul, an officer from the 111th Capital Division of the Afghan National Army (ANA) was bumped off on Wednesday near his base in Pul-e-Charkhi area which is located east of Kabul.
The officer was on his way home from the mosque.
Also on Wednesday, unknown gunnies shot and killed a retired colonel in PD5 of Kabul.
Statistics show that at least 8 people have been killed in targeted acts of violence in the capital over the past ten days.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 22 military officers have been killed in the country in targeted acts of killing over the past one month. Of the figure, 8 incidents have occurred in Kabul in the past ten days.
"They were standing here when the mullah reached here, they fired at him three times," said Neknam Gul, a resident in the area.

According to the statement, the national police seized at least four cycle of violence and a number of military equipment during the operation.

Officials did not provide further details on the identities of the suspects, but said their cases have been referred to relevant authorities for further processing.

[Jpost] An Illinois man has been convicted of the 2017 bombing of a mosque outside of Minneapolis that shook the community of Somali immigrants colonists it serves but caused no injuries, federal prosecutors said.
After a five-week trial, a jury found Michael Hari, 49, guilty on Wednesday of five federal charges related to the pipe bombing of the Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, while worshipers were in the building for morning prayers, they said.
"This act of violence, driven by hatred and ignorance, shook our community," US Attorney Erica MacDonald said in a statement.
The verdicts, she said, "represent a condemnation of that hatred and uphold our fundamental right to live and worship free from the threat of violence and discrimination."
US District Judge Donovan Frank has yet to schedule a sentencing date, but Hari faces a mandatory minimum 35 years in prison, prosecutors said.
Hari and two accomplices, all from Clarence, Illinois, about 35 miles (56 km) north of Champaign-Urbana, were arrested by FBI agents in March 2018.
All three were indicted the following June, but the other two, Michael McWhorter and Joe Morris, pleaded guilty to their roles in the bombing in January 2019.
Prosecutors described Hari as the ringleader who recruited the others into a terrorist militia group called "The White Rabbits" and drove a rented pickup truck more than 500 miles (805 km) on Aug. 4 and 5, 2017 to bomb the Islamic center.
After using a sledgehammer to break the window of the Imam’s office at 5 a.m. on Aug. 5, they threw a plastic container filled with a gasoline-diesel mixture into the building, followed by a 20-pound (9 kg) black powder pipe bomb with a lit fuse, prosecutors said.
The three men then drove back to Illinois, they said. The explosion damaged the Imam's office and the resulting fire caused extensive fire and smoke damage, they added.
Hours after his conviction, Hari called a Star Tribune news hound from Sherburne County jail to read a prepared statement proclaiming he would begin a hunger strike on Thursday.
"I am protesting my sham trial by submitting to a trial by ordeal in the form of a hunger strike to prove my innocence and my sincerity," Hari said Wednesday evening over the phone. Hari said he would continue to fast until tens of thousands of Americans incarcerated for drug-related crimes were released. "I vow before God that no food shall pass my lips until these people are released from custody."
Hari was not convicted of a drug crime. He declined to answer any further questions or explain why his protest included drug-related crimes, citing advice from his attorney to only read from the statement.
Throughout two and a half weeks of testimony, federal prosecutors painted a portrait of a man who rejected the changing tides of time. Fueled by vitriol for anyone he considered a threat to American values, they said, Hari believed it was incumbent upon him to correct the country through violent mostly peaceful action.
Hari recruited uneducated men in financial duress to help carry out his attacks, prosecutors said. He manipulated them through promises of huge sums of cash, wild fabrications about taking orders from clandestine government agents and fearmongering theories that the mosque served as a "training ground for ISIS." When FBI agents started closing in, Hari attempted to groom one of his acolytes to take the fall, prosecutors said.
Instead, the two men who helped Hari carry out the bombing pleaded guilty and testified against him during the trial — key to placing Hari at the center of the attack. Michael McWhorter, 31, and Joe Morris, 25, also face 35-year mandatory minimum sentences. They both said in court they hoped prosecutors would ask the judge for leniency due to their assistance in the case against Hari.
Hari's convictions include interfering with the free practice of religion by force and conspiracy to commit felonies using explosives.
His defense attorneys declined to comment on the verdict. Hari did not take the stand to testify during the trial. His defense team attempted to challenged the credibility of McWhorter's and Morris' testimony, saying they were telling scripted lies to save themselves from life in federal prison, and that Morris stood to take over their White Rabbits militia by getting Hari out of the way.
The bomb did not injure anyone physically in the Dar al-Farooq mosque, though members testified about psychological trauma that still grips the Twin Cities Moslem community.

[Jpost] At least four people were killed in a Ottoman Turkish-controlled region of northern Syria on Thursday when a boom-mobile detonated at a checkpoint in the border town of Ras Al Ain, according to a Ottoman Turkish official and a war monitor.
That’s the 30 km (19 mile) strip of territory along the Syrian side of the Turkish border that used to be chock full of Kurds... and now is considerably less chock full of them.
The governor's office in the Ottoman Turkish town of Sanliurfa identified the dead as two Ottoman Turkish police gendarmes and two members of local Syrian security forces. It blamed the blast on the Syrian Kurdish YPG, which Ankara views as a terrorist group.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, put the total corpse count at 12, including seven Syrian fighters, two Ottoman Turkish security personel, two civilians and one unidentified victim.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Tal Abyad Military Council announced that an agreement had been reached to establish three observation points for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the key town of Ain Issa.
The commander of the Tal Abyad Military Council, Riyad Khalaf, said that the agreement was under the supervision of Russia, and on the justifications for the agreement, he added that “Turkish violations have not stopped one day,” and that they increased in the past month.
The council said yesterday that “the Russian army has established joint observation points on the contact lines against the Turkish occupation and the factions loyal to it.”
He pointed out that this came after a tripartite meeting between representatives of the Russian and Syrian armies in addition to the SDF, following the “indiscriminate bombing” by the Turkish army on Ain Issa and its countryside, which left several civilians dead and wounded.
Since the return of the Ankara-backed Syrian mercenaries from Karabakh, Turkey has turned its attention to the areas under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces; specifically, Manbij (Aleppo), Ain Issa (Al-Raqqa) and Tal Tamr (Al-Hasakah).
Despite an agreement to halt hostilities, which was established in October 2019, the Turkish Armed Forces and their allied militants continue to wreak havoc on areas under the control of the SDF.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Israeli Air Force conducted several flights over Lebanese territory on Thursday, as they intensified their monitoring operations inside the country.
According to reports from the Lebanese-Syrian border, Israeli warplanes were seen conducting mock raids over the Jabal Sheikh (Mount Hermon) region, which is where the latter often attacks neighboring Syria.
Furthermore, the Israeli warplanes were seen flying over the southern governorate of Nabatieh, as their aircraft flew at low altitudes above a number of areas, including the Bint Jbeil District.
The Israeli warplanes were said to have flown back and forth from the Nabatieh Governorate to the nearby Beqa’a Governorate, before returning to country’s territory.
These reports come at a time of increased friction between Israel and Iran, especially after the latter accused the Mossad of playing a role in the liquidation of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

[ALMASDARNEWS] On Thursday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) entered the Ottoman Turkish observation post at the al-Kurani factory, located on the Aleppo-Damascus International Highway. "Whew! This place stinks!"
According to reports, the Syrian Arab Army entered the observation post after the Ottoman Turkish military finished withdrawing from the area this week.
A Sputnik field correspondent in Aleppo said that the operations of dismantling the point by the Ottoman Turkish forces continued over the past 24 hours, until they finally withdrew the last of their troops at noon on Thursday.
The news hound said that the trucks and vehicles that exited were loaded with all the equipment and supplies of the point, and also carried on board the Ottoman Turkish soldiers withdrawing from this observation post in southwestern Aleppo.
The trucks leaving the checkpoint took the M-5 Highway (Aleppo-Damascus Highway) and headed directly towards the Idlib countryside.
After the withdrawal from the al-Kurani point near the town of al-Zurba, which was preceded by the withdrawal of the Ottoman Turkish forces from Rashideen 5 and Sheikh Aqil posts, the presence of the Ottoman Turkish observation points surrounded by the Syrian Arab Army in the countryside of Aleppo has become limited to only two.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Baniyas Refinery in the Syrian coastal governorate of Tartous caught on fire, Thursday, requiring civil defense teams to rush to the site to push out the flames.According to reports from the Baniyas Refinery, the fire broke out at one of the sections of the site, as a result of a technical failure inside the unit.
The fire reportedly took place in the gasoline improvement unit of the Baniyas Refinery, which caused a large burst of flames to engulf this section of the site.
A site manager at the Baniyas Refinery said that no lives were lost and no one was injured as a result of the fire, adding that the damage to the facility was minimal.
The Baniyas Refinery is located along the Syrian coast; it is one of Syria’s only two oil refineries inside the Arab Republic.
