Afghanistan
8,500 Civilians Killed, Wounded in Afghanistan in 2020, down 21% vs year ago
[ToloNews] The annual report of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) shows that over 8,500 civilians in Afghanistan were killed and maimed due to war and violence in 2020.

Based on the AIHRC report, up to 3,000 Afghan non-combatants were killed and over 5,000 were maimed in war in 2020.

The report states that civilian casualties in Afghanistan dropped 21 percent in 2020 compared to 2019.

In the report, unknown gangs were the second highest cause of casualties after the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
"Civilian casualties are still very high, we can say that there is a catastrophe going on in Afghanistan," said Naeem Nazari, the deputy head of the AIHRC.

Based on the report, the Taliban were responsible for 4568 deaths and injuries of civilians during this period, the unknown groups were responsible for killing and wounding 2107, while the security forces were blamed for 1188 deaths and injuries.

But the Taliban rejected the report.

"The Taliban in recent times has committed major crimes without taking responsibility for them. The Taliban have martyred thousands of our civilian compatriots," said Tariq Arian, a front man for the Ministry of Interior.

In 2018 and 2019, complex suicide kabooms and boom-mobileing incidents caused most of the casualties.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
in 2020 assassinations, liquidations and magnetic mine explosions claimed the most civilian lives, and, more worryingly, no group has grabbed credit for these attacks.

Pakistan Secretly ‘Offers Facilities and ID Cards’ to Afghans Near Durand Line
If they don’t secure the affection of the natives, they won’t be able to retreat there when they lose the big war against India.
[KhaamaPress] The head of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
Provincial Council says Pakistain is planning to issue ID cards to Afghan tribal leaders living in districts near the disputed Durand Line.

According to Ahmad Ali Hazrat, head of Nangarhar Provincial Council, the Pak government had repeatedly made such offers to Afghans living near the Durand Line in the past.

He posted on his Facebook, that he has documents and evidence to substantiate his claim, but could not share it due to insecurity, he claimed hundreds of Afghans near the border were given Pak ID cards.

The Pak government had promised Afghans living close to the border, that they would be provided with scholarships and good facilities inside Pakistain, Hazrat indicated.

He also claimed that Pakistain by cutting the barbwires and underground construction of tunnels across the Afghan-Pak border is directly facilitating terrorist groups to easily enter Afghanistan.

On the other hand, Wajia Ul Rehman Shinwari, Nangarhar tribal chief said the Pak government has offered its promises of facilitating life and bringing electricity to the Afghans near the border, but were rejected by the people.

Pakistain so far have not commented in this matter.

Arabia
Biden Re-Examining U.S. Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia, U.A.E.
[WSJ] The Biden administration has imposed a temporary freeze on U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia and is scrutinizing purchases by the United Arab Emirates as it reviews billions of dollars in weapons transactions approved by former President Donald Trump, according to U.S. officials.

The review, the officials said, includes the sale of precision-guided munitions to Riyadh, as well as top-line F-35 fighters to Abu Dhabi, a deal that Washington approved as part of the Abraham Accords, in which the Emirates established diplomatic relations with Israel.

U.S. officials said it isn’t unusual for a new administration to review arms sales approved by a predecessor, and that despite the pause, many of the transactions are likely to ultimately go forward.

But in line with campaign pledges made by President Biden, Washington is seeking to ensure that American weapons aren’t used to further the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen, where its conflict with the Iranian-aligned Houthis has resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and widespread hunger.

Mr. Biden "has made clear that we will end our support for the military campaign led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen, and I think we will work on that in very short order," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at his confirmation hearing last week. Washington will continue to help defend the Saudis against Houthi attacks, Mr. Blinken said.

A senior administration official said the weapons sales to Saudi Arabia were being frozen pending the review, but that sales to the Emirates were not frozen while they are being examined. The $23 billion arms package to the UAE includes long-lead items such as jet fighters and drones that wouldn’t be delivered in some cases for many years.

In a Twitter post, the UAE embassy in Washington said, "As in previous administrations, the UAE anticipated a review of current policies by the new administration."

The embassy said the F-35s represent a deterrent to aggression in the region. "In parallel with new dialogue and security cooperation, it helps to reassure regional partners," the embassy said.

Officials at the Saudi embassy in Washington didn’t comment on the developments.

Congress and the U.S. defense industry were informed of the review in recent days, one U.S. official said. It isn’t known how long the review will last.

Biden suspends sale of advanced F-35 fighter jets to UAE
He's already jump-started f*cking things up
[JPost] Biden administration reviewing Trump-era arms deals, may still approve them, official says.
Looking for a little sumpthin-sumpthin for Hunter and the Iranians?
The US plans to reevaluate the Trump administration’s decision to sell F-35 jets to the United Arab Emirates.
I suspect the Biden team’s thinking is that without the arms sales, all the normalization deals will fall apart. But they aren’t taking the very real threat of Iran into account, which goes to show they haven’t caught up with the events of the last four years.
A US State Department official said on Wednesday that the Biden administration "temporarily paused" for review several pending arms sales to US allies, amounting to billions of dollars.

Among them are sales of F-35 fighter jets to the UAE and precision-guided munitions to Saudi Arabia.

US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, addressed the decision to review the F-35 sale to the UAE. Speaking at a press conference at the State Department, Blinken said that when it comes to arms sales, "it is typical at the start of an administration to review any pending sales, to make sure that what is being considered is something that advances our strategic objectives and advances our foreign policy, so that's what we're doing at this moment."

"We very much support the Abraham Accords, we think that Israel normalizing relations with its neighbors and other countries in the region is a very positive development and so, we applaud them, and we hope that there may be an opportunity to build on it in the months and years ahead," Blinken added. "We're also trying to make sure that we have a full understanding of any commitments that may have been made in securing those agreements, and that's something we're looking at right now," he said.

Blinken also addressed the prospects of rejoining the nuclear agreement with Iran. "President Biden has been very clear in saying that if Iran comes back into full compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA, the United States would do the same thing, and then we would use that as a platform, to build with our allies and partners, what we call the longer and stronger agreement and to deal with a number of other issues that are deeply problematic in the relationship with Iran," he said.

"But we are a long ways from that point," Blinken continued. "Iran is out of compliance on a number of fronts. It would take some time, should it make the decision to do so for it to come back into compliance and time for us then to assess whether it was meeting its obligations. So we're not there yet, to say the least."

The F-35 sale came soon after the UAE and Israel signed a peace and normalization agreement mediated by the Trump administration, known as the Abraham Accords.

Though the warplanes were not officially part of the Abraham Accords, UAE officials said soon after the agreement was announced that they hoped it would help the US approve their longstanding request to purchase F-35s.

Ukrainian SBU said weapons parts sold and shipped to North America
[Korrespondent] The intelligence officers have documented several dozen facts of smuggling and warned the sending abroad of 20 parcels with elements of military weapons.

The security service blocked the channel for the illegal transfer abroad of the main parts of rifled small arms of various types, organized by the spouses from Kiev. This was reported on the website of the special services on Wednesday, January 27.

According to preliminary data, the suspects bought components for small arms, including Kalashnikov assault rifles and light machine guns of various modifications, as well as Dragunov sniper rifles.

The suspects found clients on thematic Internet forums and forwarded goods to customers, mainly from North America, using international mail services from offices in the regional centers of Zhytomyr and Kiev regions.

The defendants processed the items remotely through electronic accounts that were registered to non-existent persons.

The SBU officers documented several dozen facts of smuggling (part 2 of article 15, part 1 of article 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and warned the sending abroad of 20 parcels with elements of military weapons.

Urgent investigative actions are now continuing. Sources of supply of components for weapons are established.

Head of Wagner Group blocked in Facebook, Twitter
[RIA.RU] The personal accounts of businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin on Facebook and Twitter have been blocked without explanation, the press service of his company "Concord" said on the social network "VKontakte" .

"As stated in the help center for social networks, the decision to block accounts is final, the reasons are not disclosed for security purposes," Prigozhin 's representatives said .

The press service clarified that they consider the blocking as a reaction to Prigozhin's comment that "US President Joe Biden canceled the ban on service in the army of transgender people introduced by Donald Trump ."

"This is a clear example of how the US State Department blocks any objectionable comments. The dispersal of shares with Navalny is not suitable for him. If one person goes out on the street in America and quietly says:" I do not agree with Biden, " threatens - an electric chair ", - quotes the press service of the words of the entrepreneur.

Since 2016, Prigozhin himself has been on the US sanctions lists as a supposed participant in "Russian interference" in the presidential elections, and also appears in the sanctions of the European Union, which considers him involved in violating the arms embargo on Libya.

Man convicted, then acquitted, over Daniel Pearl’s murder now admits ‘minor’ role
[IsraelTimes] In a dramatic turn of events, a man convicted and later acquitted in the 2002 killing of Jewish American journalist Daniel Pearl admitted a "minor" role in his death, upending 18 years of denials, the Pearl family lawyer say.

A letter handwritten by Ahmad Saeed Omar Sheikh
...in our archives as Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Ahmed Omar Sheikh, so the reorganization is understandable. He’s the Brit of Pakistani origin who has thus far spent eighteen years in various Pakistani government safe houses successfully avoiding either being hanged or transferred to the U.S. for his not-minor role in Israeli-American Daniel Pearl’s heinous murder, a nice rest after the very busy earlier stage of his life. As a brilliant but violent lad he hooked up with the jihadi crowd at the London School of Economics, dropping out to join the jihadis in Bosnia — reportedly on orders from MI-6. After a break to run Al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan, he was jailed in India in 1994 for kidnapping Western tourists in Kashmir for Pakistan’s ISI. In 1999 Saeed Sheikh and two leaders of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen were traded for the passengers and crew of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane, after which he wandered down to Karachi to hang with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s (KSM) gang. This may yet turn out to have been a fatal error...
in 2019, in which he admits limited involvement in the death of the Wall Street Journal news hound, was submitted to Pakistain’s Supreme Court nearly two weeks ago. It wasn’t until Wednesday that Sheikh’s lawyers confirmed their client wrote it.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Joint List of Arab parties partly disintegrating as talks with Ra’am founder
Watch the sausage making. How on earth does Bibi Netanyahu always manage to trip up his enemies, just when they’re sure that this time they’ve finally got him nailed firmly to the wall? They’ve got a week to figure it out, but if they have less than 3.25% of the vote, whatever that means, they’ll be off the ballot altogether.
[IsraelTimes] Representatives of three of the four Arab parties which compose the Joint List
...Barack Obama’s plan to nail that uppity Bibi to the wall by sending his political organizers to buy unity among Israel’s Arabs and connect them in a Democratic Party-style bloc with the labour socialists. That was the first time he tripped them up — and now Labour may not even make the cut...
said on Wednesday night that negotiations to maintain the unity of the bloc have failed, making it likely that they will not run together in the coming March elections.

"We’ve failed, unfortunately. The Joint List will not continue in its current lineup," said Balad MK Mtanes Shehadeh, adding later: "At this point, we cannot continue as the Joint List because of our fundamental political differences."
Ethnicity when not supported by copious outside funding is not enough to sustain joint effort from philosophical opposites? I’m shocked. Former president Barack Obama would no doubt be livid about seeing another chunk of his legacy torn away, were it not for the quality of the weed he can score now that it’s legal almost everywhere.
Tensions among the four Arab parties had been rising steadily over the past few months, stoked by renegade Ra’am party chief Mansour Abbas. Abbas has publicly pursued closer ties with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a move seen by his Joint List colleagues as beyond the pale.

Palestinians applaud renewal of ties with US
Yeay! Boodle! Influence! Terrorist acts!
[JPost] A senior Palestinian official in Ramallah told The Jerusalem Post that the Palestinians were "deeply satisfied" by the US official’s announcement.

Palestinian officials on Wednesday welcomed the decision by US President Joe Biden’s administration to renew relations with the Palestinians as a "positive step in the right direction."

The officials said that they were not surprised by the decision as the Palestinian Authority had received "assurances" before the last US presidential election that Biden, if elected, would reverse some of the decisions pertaining to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that were taken by former president Donald Trump’s administration.

The Palestinians boycotted the Trump administration after its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017.

The officials expressed hope that the Biden administration would fully endorse PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s plan for convening an international conference for peace in the Middle East and pressure Israel to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 and halt settlement construction.

Adopted in 2016, the resolution condemns the construction and expansion of settlements and calls for a freeze of all settlement activity, including "natural growth," and the dismantlement of all settlement outposts erected since March 2001.

IDF chief appears to confirm two Israeli strikes in Syria last month
[IsraelTimes] IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi appears to indicate that Israel was responsible for two Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s in Syria last month, saying the first targeted a weapons manufacturing facility and the second a shipment of munitions.

In a speech to the Institute for National Security Studies, Kohavi notes the wide range of fronts and types of threats the military is facing. To demonstrate this complexity, he notes a week in which the IDF conducted operations in two foreign countries, as well as the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. Strip and the West Bank.

Though he refrains from naming Syria — instead referring to it as "Country A" — the timeline described by the chief of staff clearly indicates that one of the countries in question is Syria.

"On the first day, we struck widely in... let’s call it Country A. There we struck both a production facility and weapons themselves. The next day, the Iron Dome intercepted two rockets that were en route to Ashkelon," Kohavi said, apparently referring to an airstrike in Syria on the night between December 24 and 25 and a rocket attack from Gaza the following evening.

"We then conducted a commando raid on front ’B,’ which is not necessarily in the first ring," Kohavi said, using the military’s term for the countries and areas immediately adjacent to Israel. It is not definitively clear which country this refers to, though Iraq, which borders Syria and is not considered in the IDF’s "first ring," is a likely candidate.

"Two days later, we again struck Country A, blocking the transfer of weaponry from A to B. This was weaponry that was supposed to be directed and used against the State of Israel," he said. This appears to be a reference to an airstrike against Iran-linked sites in Syria on December 31.

"And in the meantime, in the Central Command, night after night, seven to ten arrests were made. Some of those [arrested] could have carried out a terror attack on the Route 443 highway or in the Halamish settlement," he said.

The IDF chief noted that in addition, the military attempted to prevent the constant cyber attacks directed against Israel.

Israeli Defense Chief: Iran 'Months, Maybe Even Weeks' From Nuclear Bomb
[NEWSMAX] The chief of staff for Israel's Defense Forces said this week Iran is close, just "months" or "weeks" away from developing a nuclear weapon, the Times of Israel reports.

"No one has any doubt: Iran hopes, wants, identified, and built the capabilities necessary to be a military nuclear power, and maybe even use them when it decides it wants to," Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said in a speech to Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies.

He noted, if the country were to "rush ahead," it could complete a bomb in "months, maybe even weeks," due to its stockpile of enriched uranium and improved centrifuges.

"There needs to be serious effort so that by the end, there won't — not only not be a bomb — but there won't be an ability to rush to a bomb," he added.

Kohani appeared to call out President Joe Biden's desire to return to the nuclear agreement the Obama Administration made with Iran, when he went on to say, "The Iran of today is not the Iran of 2015 when the deal was signed."

Israel pledges to return cows to Lebanon after shepherds complain of unlawful seizure
[AlMasdar] The Israeli army pledged on Tuesday to return several cows belonging to Lebanese shepherds,
...cowherds, surely...
after crossing the border from Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
This came after shepherds in the Lebanese village of Wazzani accused Israeli soldiers of taking the cows that have been moving freely for decades in their pastures near the disputed borders, Rooters reported.

The shepherds of the village reported that the soldiers took seven cows after they entered the gray area between a fence separating the two countries on Sunday, and the blue line that marks the borders set by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Kamal al-Ahmad, one of the shepherds in the village, said that he lost three cows, noting that the cows have been grazing in this area for more than two decades, and this is the first time that "someone took them."

On the other hand, the Israeli army front man’s office said that the Israeli soldiers did not take the cows, indicating that the cows crossed the fence and the Blue Line, after which the gate was closed.

They explained in a statement that the cows that are still inside Israeli territory will be returned through the competent authorities.

The average price of a cow in Lebanon is estimated at about $2,000 (USD), which means that losing one of them is a great loss for farmers who suffer from the repercussions of the financial crisis in Lebanon, Rooters reported.

Joe Biden's Crippling Immigration Enforcement Orders Disrupt ICE Agency
[Breitbart] President Joe Biden’s orders that seek to cripple interior enforcement of federal immigration law is disrupting the operations at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

Two orders from the Biden administration, released via a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo, have left many at ICE confused as to the perimeters of their duty in enforcing federal immigration law.

"It’s a mess," former ICE Director Thomas Homan told Breitbart News of the orders issued by the Biden administration to the agency’s staff.

The memo includes a 100-day halt to deportations — which has since been at least temporarily blocked by a federal judge — for nearly all illegal aliens except those who are convicted of "aggravated felonies" and a dismantling of immigration enforcement that prevents ICE agents from arresting illegal aliens who are not convicted felons, known or suspected terrorists, or newly-arrived border crossers.

The result of the memo has led to disarray at DHS, one source told Breitbart News. In particular, the deportation order from Biden has made it unclear how ICE agents can arrest and detain illegal aliens who have yet to be convicted of aggravated felonies when there is no end goal for removal.
