Taliban Control Key Dam in Kandahar, Farmers Plead for Water
[ToloNews] Dahla Dam, a main irrigation source for surrounding areas in Kandahar, continues to remain under Taliban

control for the past month.

The Dahla Dam is one of the main water sources providing water to agricultural land in seven districts in the province. But the Taliban's control of the dam has deprived farmers of irrigation water.

Farmers in Kandahar said their gardens and agricultural lands will be devastated if swift action is not taken to continue the flow of water.

The Taliban said that irrigation experts are allowed to come and regulate the water distribution from the dam to the farmers' fields. But the Afghan government has said that it plans to launch an operation to clear the area from Taliban control.

Lands in Arghandab, Shah Wali Kot, Zhari, Maiwand, Panjwayi, Daman and Dand districts are dependent on the water that flows from the Dahla Dam.

"Water is the blessing of God and we are Moslems, why is the government closing the dam, why are they destroying the country?" asked Hairan, a farmer in Kandahar.

"It is now the season of growth of pomegranates, if water does not come, they will be affected," said Kandahar farmer Abdul Raziq.

"The operation moves forward in a good way, our forces will soon get their objectives," said Ghorzang Afridi, the head of the security department at Kandahar police headquarters.

"It's natural for the enemy to destroy the things that are in the interest of the people, but our security forces are defending them with full dignity and courage," said Abdul Matin Hussainkhel, the commander of 205 Shaheen Army Corps.

The Defense Ministry stated that festivities between Afghan government forces and the Taliban have left more than 100 turbans dead.

The MoD also added that in these operations, 50 turbans were maimed, a number of weapons were seized and some amount of ammunition was destroyed.

According to the Ministry of Defense, these operations were conducted in the past 24 hours in Laghman

During the invasions of Alexander the Great, the area was known as Lampaka, wich is apparently Olde Macedonian for Laghman. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the bucolic capital of the province. The population is half Pashtun, the remainder Tadjik and Pashai. It had a repution for great wealth until it was conquered in the tenth century by Abu Mansur Sabuktigin.
He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. #4  #1 and #2 These inflated numbers allow the Afghan MoD to report how well they are doing in the 'fight for democracy' with your money. And the five sided puzzle boys get the justification to skim from billions in 'financially aid' for the Afghan government. The Taliban gain from false reporting on their decreasing numbers, and the shock and awe when they still keep winning. Win-win-win.

Taliban still controls almost 1/5th of this hellhole and reaps 'taxes' through proxies and functionaries in even the government controlled areas. They don't have elaborate needs or ambitions for Afghanistan or its people, all they crave is dominion, and that comes through fear. The people themselves, a third of them actually favour the taliban and their characteristic deobandi moslemness over any liberal democratic utopia the rest have in mind.

I believe DJT realized all this and one of his major impeachment-worthy crimes was obstructing this enterprise in favour of the American citizens' interest. Because the old game must go on. Of aiding and abetting standard South Asian corruption, selling both liberals and conservatives back home a story about 'annihilating evil', presenting fantastic reports to Congress to approve billions in aid. While both the Taliban and any democracy these hopelessly sunni bastards can build are guaranteed to be a blight on humanity.

#5  Generally a wasted effort, both in Iraq and AFT? Brings to mind....Nicholas Wade's A Troubled Inheritance, Page 14:

But in situations where culture and political institutions can flow freely across borders, long enduring disparities are harder to explain. The Brisk and continuing pace of human evolution suggests a new posibility: that at the root of each civilization is a particular set of evolved social behaviors that sustain it, and these behaviors are reflexed in the society's institutions. Institutions are not just a set of arbitrary rules. Rather, they grow out of instinctual social behaviors, such propensity to trust others, to follow rules and punish those who don't, to engage in reciprocity and trade, or take up arms against neighboring groups. Because these behaviors vary slightly from one society to the next as the result of evolutionary pressures, so too may the institutions that depend on them.

This would explain why it is so hard to transfer institutions from one society to another. American institutions cannot be successfully implnted in Iraq, for instance, because Iraqis have different social behaviors, including a base in tribalism and a well-founded distrust of central government, just as it would be impossible to import Iraqi tribal politics into the United States.

#7  /\ Yes, good catch. "Impossible" is indeed a ...very long time. I believe it is referred to here at the Burg as "de-civilization." I differ with Wade on this and a few other of his assumptions. Not many, but a few.

At least 25 Al-Shabaab militants in Ops in Somalia ahead of election
[Garowe] Operations criminal masterminded by the Somali National Army [SNA] continue to yield fruits, especially in Central Somalia, with the al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
forces of Evil suffering huge setbacks in the past two weeks, following the deaths of numerous fighters.

The SNA forces on Tuesday announced further deaths of 25 al-Shabaab forces of Evil in Hiraan region following an operation that targeted the group's hideouts. al-Shabaab has a huge presence in central and southern Somalia.

In a statement, the SNA forces also announced the confiscation of several weapons used by the fighters and other paraphernalia, including but not limited to the Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs] which are commonly used by the holy warriors.

"SNA forces attacked and killed 25 al-Shabaab fighters in Hiraan region. During the operation, the forces managed to confiscate weapons and ammunition used by the holy warriors," read the statement from the military.

The Somali National Army is working hard to reign over al-Shabaab ahead of the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission Forces exit from Somalia later on this year. The AMISOM team is set to leave upon full implementation of the Somali Transition Plan [STP].

On Friday, the SNA team confirmed killing 15 forces of Evil at Gal-labashiir in Middle Shebelle, in an attack that leftover 20 forces of Evil severely injured. This was one of the major operations in as many months within the country.

"Somali National Army killed 15 al-Shabaab terrorists, including leaders, more than 20 were maimed, In the operation, the Somali Army captured weapons In Gal-labashiir, Middle Shabelle Region," SNA announced that achievement.

On Saturday, the troops continued with their operations in the central parts of the country within Galkayo-Harareey, a town that has been persistently under al-Shabaab attack in recent months. The town is found in Galmadug state.

During the operation, SNA said, at least 37 forces of Evil were killed, taking the number to 52 within just 24 hours. Two attackers were captured during the operation and will now have to spend in military detention for further scrutiny.

"The SNA troops carried a planned attack at Galkayo-Harareey where the forces of Evil were stationed. At least 37 forces of Evil were killed during the operation while two others were captured," SNA added.

Al-Shabaab on their side claimed SNA commander Gen Odawaa Yusuf Rageh survived a kaboom in Middle Shabelle. The top military officer was in the combat team that has been leading operations within the country.

SNA did not confirm or deny the alleged kaboom targeting Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Rageh, but it's clear he was on the battlefield. The 35-year-old general is one of the youngest top military commanders in the young army that is rebuilding after years of shambles.

Yemen's Government Permits Access to Oil Tankers in Hodeidah
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s internationally recognized government on Tuesday said it allowed oil tankers in the western Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
-held seaport of Hodeidah, with a severe shortage of fuel worsening the humanitarian crisis in the war-plagued country.

Despite Houthis violating the UN-sponsored Stockholm Agreement and their pressing on with an aggressive offensive against the northeastern governorate of Marib, the Yemeni government approved the entry of several oil tankers to the coup-run port.

Marib hosts over a million internally displaced Yemenis who sought refuge in government-controlled territory.

"Despite Houthi persistent violation of Stockholm Agreement and aggression against Marib, the Yemeni government let several oil tankers anew in Hodeidah to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian situation," tweeted Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Bin Mubarak.

While the FM gave no details on the tankers’ number or oil quantity, no immediate comment was made by the Houthi-run Yemeni Petroleum Company (YPC).

Last April, Yemen’s government allowed oil tankers into Hodeidah port, but the Houthi group said the tankers were assigned for the private sector and not for public use.

The government’s Supreme Economic Council revealed that fuel coming in through Yemeni ports had exceeded 276,000 metric tons during the first half of April.

Around 70% of the imported fuel, according to the Council, was transported by land to Houthi territories, where the Iran-aligned group actively seeks to create a fuel crisis to maximize its profits and fund its war agenda.

Both the UN and the US are pressing for a ceasefire to allow sea and air access to areas held by Houthis at a time the Saudi-led Arab coalition accuses the gunnies of using the ports for smuggling arms.

Moreover, Houthis are facing accusations of misappropriating port and state revenues in areas under their control.

about how to carry out attacks, says Hajdu.

"He committed to making a pipe-bomb and using it at a mass event, in Budapest or elsewhere in Hungary... in the near future," says Hajdu.

The man had also discussed driving a car into a large group of people, says Hajdu, without elaborating.

PKK kills two members of security forces in southeast Turkey: interior minister
[Rudaw] Two members of Ottoman Turkish security forces were killed during festivities with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Bitlis on Wednesday, the country’s interior minister announced.

Minister Suleyman Soylu said in a tweet that a member of the local gendarmerie and a village guard were killed in the Tatvan district of Bitlis province during festivities with the PKK. The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
is carrying out Operation Eren-11 in the area.

Four members of Ottoman Turkish security forces were maimed in the skirmish, Soylu added.

The multi-phased operation is named after 15-year-old Eren Bulbul, who was killed during a clash between Ottoman Turkish forces and the PKK in Trabzon province on August 11, 2017.

According to Ottoman Turkish media, Bulbul had spotted some PKK fighters in his hometown of Macka and informed the police, who accompanied him to the area where he was later killed. The PKK confirmed their involvement in the clash in Trabzon province but did not mention Bulbul.

Turkey blames the PKK for his death, and has cast him as a hero in their fight against the gang ever since.

ISIS militants killed in ‘revenge’ operation in Diyala

(ISIS) Lions of Islam were killed in a ground and air operation between Kurdish Peshmerga and French forces in areas between the Diyala districts of Kifri and Tuz Khurmatu, the Kurdistan Region’s vice president said on Wednesday.

"In a land and air operation in Kawer Kawa - Dawe region, the brave Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Region cleared a vast area of ISIS [ISIS]; a number of ISIS bad boyz were potted, a number of their residential bases were destroyed, and a large number of weapons and important information were seized," Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa said in a statement published to Facebook.

The offensive is "in Dire Revenge" for the recent deaths of four Peshmerga troops in ISIS attacks, according to the vice president, who later told Rudaw that six Lions of Islam have been killed so far.

"According to information we have so far, six ISIS are killed," he told Rudaw.

Major General Mohammed Rostam, deputy head of Peshmerga’s Front Two in Kifri district, confirmed the operation to Rudaw, saying that a number of ISIS Lions of Islam had been killed.

The "intense 24-hour operation," was carried out by the special "Golden Forces" of the Peshmerga’s Unit 70 under the supervision of French special forces, added Sheikh Mustafa, who said no Peshmerga or French forces were harmed. The operation is ongoing, a Peshmerga major general told Rudaw English.

Three Kurdish fighters were killed in an ISIS attack on a Peshmerga position in Kirkuk province last month, and two others were maimed.

In a more recent attack on May 11, another Peshmerga died one day after he was shot during an ISIS attack on Peshmerga forces in Kifri district.

ISIS militants have exploited a security vacuum in territory disputed between Erbil and Baghdad, including Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala and Salahaddin – where sleeper cells have been able to thrive and launch attacks on both military forces and civilians.

After deadly attacks on Iraqi and Peshmerga forces this spring, Erbil and Baghdad agreed in May to coordinate on security in these areas. A Joint Cooperation Centre was established in Diyala province where Peshmerga officers began working with Iraqi forces at Kirkuk’s K1 military base.

Another two centres were established in Makhmour and Nineveh province.

Israel arrests senior Hamas commander in the West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Military says Jamal Tawil encouraged recent riots, was working to revive terror group’s Ramallah headquarters; Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", denounces the detention, vows to continue fighting

Israeli security forces early Wednesday arrested a senior Hamas member, Sheikh Jamal Tawil,
...sometimes Jamal Al-Tawil ...
in Ramallah over his alleged work on behalf of the terror group, the Israel Defense Forces said.

According to the military, Tawil was arrested in a predawn raid by the IDF’s elite Duvdevan Unit and the Shin Bet security service.

"Tawil is a senior figure in the Hamas terror group in the West Bank, who recently took an active part in organizing riots, inciting violence and reforming Hamas’s headquarters in Ramallah," the IDF said.

Hamas denounced the arrest of its senior operative, saying it would not prevent further activity by the terror group in the West Bank.

"The arrest of Sheikh Jamal al-Tawil will not silence the voice of the resistance in the West Bank. The sons of Hamas and its commanders are all soldiers of the resistance, and they will continue the path of freedom and liberation whatever the sacrifices," Hamas said in a statement.

Tawil, who is believed to have planned a number of suicide kabooms during the Second Intifada, has been arrested many times, spending much of his life in and out of Israeli prison. Tawil’s daughter Bushra, a Hamas-linked Paleostinian journalist, has also been held in administrative detention since late December, according to the Paleostinian prisoner rights group al-Dameer.

Tawil’s arrest came amid a general crackdown on Hamas activities in the West Bank in recent days, as well as large-scale arrest raids in response to widespread protests and violent mostly peaceful riots during last month’s Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. conflict.

More than ten Hamas activists were arrested in the pre-dawn hours on May 20 alone, including prominent Paleostinian politician Naif Rajoub, a Shin Bet spokesperson told The Times of Israel at the time. It is unclear how many were later released.

Hamas this week called for Paleostinians to hold a "Day of Rage" on Friday in order to confront what it called "settlers’ aggression" and the "storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque" in Jerusalem.

Despite the ceasefire mostly holding between Israel and the terror group in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas leadership was apparently still pushing for further unrest in the region.
On Wednesday, Iyad al-Bozom, spokesman for the Hamas-run interior ministry in Gaza, said two more Hamas combatants died while dismantling Israeli ordnance in the enclave.

9 Killed in Protests against Kurdish Administration in Aleppo Countryside

[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] At least nine non-combatants were killed and hundreds injured in protests that have swept the Syrian city of Manbij, east of the Aleppo governorate, since Monday.

In a statement, the Kurdish Civil Administration pledged to "fulfill the demands of the demonstrators, serve the interests of the citizens and thwart saboteurs, who seek to meddle with stability and security in northern and eastern Syria."

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the city center of Manbij and at the al-Khataf checkpoint, calling on the authorities to arrest those involved in the killing of protesters, abolish the forced conscription law and increase the city’s share of fuel.

Manbij has been witnessing a stifling crisis due to the lack of fuel and energy derivatives.

On Monday, mass demonstrations took place in the village of al-Hudhoud, about 6 kilometers east of Manbij, rejecting the forced conscription. Witnesses and activists reported that the Internal Security Forces fired live bullets at the protesters, wounding dozens of people and killing one civilian.

Similar demonstrations took place at al-Khataf checkpoint. Eyewitnesses reported that the demonstrators had taken control of the checkpoint, but the security forces brought in military reinforcements and opened fire, which led to the killing of two civilians.

the Manbij Military Council, which is allied with the Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by the international coalition led by Washington, denied reports about the killing of civilians and the targeting of peaceful protests.

In a statement, the council accused the regular forces deployed in the vicinity of the area of "killing a young man and wounding three others as one of their cars was passing through the village of al-Hudhoud."

The council called on the residents of Manbij and its countryside to beware of "sedition attempts and those who want to tamper with the security and stability of the region."

The Civil Administration in the city has since ordered a 48-hour curfew after the eruption of the protests.
