NYC home invaders net $40K after threatening to shoot 5-year-old boy
[NYPOST] Cold-blooded home invaders in the Bronx threatened to shoot a boy and pistol-whipped a grandmother before making off with a safe containing $40,000, police said.
Misguided feral yoots. Call it a misdemeanor and forget about it.Go after Trump because nobody's above the law. Or something.
The chilling home invasion unfolded around 8 a.m. Wednesday inside of an apartment in the vicinity of Gates Place and West Gun Hill Road, authorities said.

The three robbers waited outside the apartment of a 30-year-old woman until the door was eventually opened, cops said. The terrifying trio then stormed the residence and pointed a gun at the woman’s 5-year-old son and threatened to shoot him unless she gave them money, police said.

The armed bandidos pistol-whipped the victim’s 58-year-old mother and forced the 30-year-old woman into a back bedroom where there was a safe stuffed with $40,000 cash, authorities said. Police would not speculate on the cash.
Well, we can. I'd say they knew there was some boodle from biznizz that wouldn't normally be reported to the cops
The trio stole the safe, with two of the three robbers speeding off with it in a gray sedan; the third thief drove off in a dark blue SUV, police sai

5 Hondurans dead in Texas shooting as armed Mexican with AR-15 is on the loose
What odds any of the parties are in the country legally?
[NYPOST] Five people — including an 8-year-old — were shot dead with an AR-15 style rifle at a southeast Texas home by an allegedly drunk man, authorities said.
Had they been shot with a Winchester 96 it would have been different.
The incident occurred shortly after 11:31 p.m. Friday when officials from the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a harassment incident in Cleveland, Texas, ABC News reported.
Shooting five people dead is pretty serious harassment.
However, when authorities arrived they found four victims shot dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.
"They're muerte, Jim!"
A fifth person died at a local hospital.
"Rattle"
Three others were injured in the incident, authorities said.
"Ow! My elbow!"
Ten people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, according to KHOU-11.
So he put away half of them.
The victims ranged in age from 8 to 40 years old, and they’re all from Honduras. The 8-year-old and two female victims were discovered in the bedroom, lying on top of two surviving children, authorities said.
Eight year olds and girls are usually unarmed.
The suspect was described by authorities as a Mexican male armed with an AR-15-style rifle who is intoxicated.
"Calling all cars!"
“The Mexican male subject, he has been known to shoot his 223 out in his front yard, which is evident by the shell casings that are laying in the front yard,” said the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.
"Stay away from this nutter!”
Residents in and around the Cleveland, Texas, area were told by police to stay inside and stay clear of the crime scene until the investigation has concluded.

Courtesy of Skidmark, the Daily Mail provides the miscreant’s name — Francisco Oropeza, 38 — and a blurry photo.

#5  Fast facts about the mass shooting in Texas:

Francisco Oropeza, 39, was firing his rifle around midnight. His neighbors asked him to stop.
Oropeza approached his neighbor’s home, entered, and began firing.
All of the dead victims were shot “execution style” in the head.
Everyone who was shot is believed to be Honduran.
Two dead adults were found lying on top of children to protect them from Oropez.
Oropeza has been trapped in a wooded area. As many as 75 law enforcement officials are set up in a perimeter around the forest.

“One of the victims came out of the house and said, hey, we have a small baby that’s trying to sleep,” San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers reported to KTRK News. “And the man said, I’ll shoot out in my front yard, I do what I want to in my own residence.”

The police responded with dogs, cops on horses, and a drone to help in the manhunt.

Did Oropeza buy his gun legally? That will come down to his immigration status.

#3  Murcek that would be based on the greater weight of e-cars, which I believe is true. As with commercial trucks, indeed there is greater wear/tear on roads from heavier vehicles. Suppose the surtax would be to capture some of the "user fee" element of gas taxes, which e-cars obviously "evade" because of the way they are powered.

After heavy rain and snow, California catches fire
Goodness, is it California’s annual fire season already? How time does fly!
[GEO.TV] Firefighters battled the state's first large wildfire of the year in rugged foothills east of Los Angeles barely five weeks after the last bout of heavy rain and snow in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s historically wet winter.

The Nob blaze has burned some 200 acres of bush and grass in the San Bernardino National Forest since flaring on Wednesday, with 25% of the blaze's perimeter controlled by Thursday night, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Agency spokesperson Lyn Sieliet said that the fire posed no direct danger to settled regions as it torched abrupt landscape deep in the woodland. The cause of the fire was under probe.

The fire was slim compared with nightmare blazes that have become more regular and severe in recent years, scorching hundreds of thousands of acres, devastating whole neighbourhoods and causing mass evacuations.

Still, it marked the first blaze of the 2023 season measuring 100 acres or more, signalling the potential for extreme wildfire activity this summer and fall. Experts have warned that this winter's bountiful rainfall prompted heavy growth of grass and scrub that will dry out by summer, leaving a larger, thicker fuel bed for wildfires.

The glut of precipitation, however, also has increased the moisture content in shrubs and trees, making them more flame-resistant in the short term and helping forestall the onset of the fire season.

By April 2022, three years into a crippling drought, California had already tallied over a dozen major wildfires, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing data from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).

The latest fire in San Bernardino County came as low-lying communities in central California braced for possible floods from the rapid runoff of melting snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Forecasters said a warming trend hastened a spring thaw following a spate of Pacific storms that pummeled California with torrential rains and mountain snow from late December until late March.

US to deploy National Coast guards in Zambia and Malawi in a new deal
Join the National Guard — see the world!
[Garowe] The United States, Zambia, and Malawi have announced a Joint State Partnership Program that will strengthen disaster response and security cooperation between the United States and each country.

This State Partnership Program links US National Guard units from a specific US state with partner nations’ security forces and disaster response organizations in a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship.

The State Partnership Program, which has been in existence for 30 years, includes partnerships between countries around the world with National Guard units from all 54 U.S. states and territories. Among the 100 State Partnership Programs globally, 16 are with African countries, including regional neighbors South Africa and Botswana. On average, only two new State Partnerships are added each year; the addition of these countries reflects the strength of the U.S. relationships with both Zambia and Malawi.

In this new arrangement, US National Guard units plan to conduct several joint activities each year with both Zambia and Malawi in support of shared security goals.

These activities go beyond traditional military-to-military engagements and may include emergency management and disaster response exercises; border and port security programs; leadership and officer development; medical capacity-building; economic security strengthening; natural resource protection; peacekeeping operations; and counter-trafficking counter-proliferation, and counter-terrorism support.

A key component of the State Partnership Program is improving disaster response capabilities. For example, when Cyclone Freddy tore through the region last month, Zambia and Malawi worked together on search and rescue and disaster response in the aftermath of the storm. Moving forward, the State Partnership Program will enable both countries to work in partnership with National Guard units to further enhance those disaster response capabilities.

The goal of a State Partnership Program is to develop and maintain important security relationships between the United States and other nations sharing common interests. A State Partnership Program is a long-term partnership that lasts for decades and increases the readiness of US and partner forces to meet emerging challenges.

Members of US state national guards are overwhelmingly reservists with full-time civilian professions, and the State Partnership Program has often been an avenue to spur strong people-to-people relations well beyond the realm of security.

China-Japan-Koreas
China to allow fertility treatment for single women to stem population fall
Does anyone think that adding this expensive, persnickety high-tech option will be enough to reverse China’s falling population and beat India replacing them as world’s most populous?

......
[Dawn] China is mulling to allow single women access to in-vitro fertility (IVF) treatment legally in a private clinic as it tries to slow its demographic decline.

The changes mean unmarried women can take paid maternity leave and receive child subsidies previously only available to married couples.

This has benefited women like Chen Luojin, a 33-year-old divorcee living in Chengdu, the capital of the southwestern Sichuan province, which legalised registration of children by unmarried women in February, something China is considering implementing nationwide to address record low birth rates. She is now 10 weeks pregnant.

"Becoming a single parent is not for everyone, but I’m happy with the decision," said Chen.

"Equally, getting married or not is for each individual to decide. We have liberalised the policies here and I know a lot of single women are doing IVF."

Concerned about China’s first population drop in six decades and its rapid ageing, the government’s political advisers proposed in March that single and unmarried women should have access to egg freezing and IVF treatment, among other services. China’s leaders have not commented publicly on the recommendations.

China’s National Health Commission (NHC) did not respond to a request for comment, though it has previously acknowledged that many young women are delaying plans to marry and have children, noting that high costs of education and child-rearing have contributed to declining marriage rates.

Shanghai and the southern Guangdong province have also permitted unmarried women to register their children but IVF services for single women remain banned.

HUGE UNMET NEED
Experts have said Lyppens said most IVF clinics in China operated at full capacity before the Covid-19 pandemic, and are likely to be in a similar situation again soon as the country has lifted virus-related curbs.

Chinese hospitals and clinics, both public and private, provide about 1 million rounds of IVF treatment — or cycles — annually, compared with 1.5 million in the rest of the world, according to academic journals and industry experts.

The price for a cycle — which involves medication for ovarian stimulation, egg collection, insemination in a laboratory and embryo transfer — is regulated in China. It ranges between $3,500 and $4,500, about a quarter of US prices.

China’s IVF market, including treatment, drugs and equipment, is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 14.5 per cent in coming years, nearly doubling to 85.4bn yuan in 2025 from 49.7bn yuan, research house Leadleo estimated in a report last year.

Gender power imbalances, the stigma in Chinese society that single pregnant women face, and the lack of social surveys make it difficult to quantify total demand for IVF, industry experts say.

China implemented a rigid one-child policy from 1980 until 2015 that have allowed India to become the world’s most populous nation. The limit has since been raised to three children.

RFK Jr. Says His Father and Uncle Were Fighting Against Military Industrial Complex Before Their Deaths
[Gateway] Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was recently interviewed by Piers Morgan and in the interview, he had a lot of interesting things to say about his father the late Robert F. Kennedy, and his uncle President John F. Kennedy.

The topic of his uncle and father got brought up when Morgan asked Kennedy what impact did it have on him to lose both his uncle and father at such a young age.

Kennedy responded "I think it had impact on the world. I think my father and uncle were fighting against the emergence of the military industrial complex."

He continued "their deaths really marked a fork in the road for our country and the rest of the world where we started down this road towards corporatism which I call the corrupt merger of state and corporate power.

#5  I guess I'll have to start compiling "How Hunter Biden could save the country and avenge his father and brother through his paintings." Now all I need are some premises. I can fit facts,if any, to them later.

#6  /\ Death of the planet due to fossil fuels and climate change ?

'Weeping Woman' is based on an image of a woman holding her dead child. It is taken from Picasso’s anti-war mural, Guernica. Picasso painted both works during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). It was in response to the bombing of the Basque town of Guernica. The attack was carried out in April 1937 by Nazi Germany’s air force, in support of Spain's Nationalist forces. Hundreds of people were killed. The figure of the Weeping Woman is based on artist and photographer Dora Maar. Maar photographed Picasso's making of Guernica.

#8  I don’t trust any politicians. He is one that stands to lose something substantial by running - his life. For that reason, I believe that he is strongly motivated to run for some reason and I will listen to him although I am unlikely to vote for him. Patrick Moynihan’s daughter is not a politician but I listen to her as well as I think she is truthful about the dangers of China.
