Social activist and former member of the Nigerian Senate, Shehu Sani, has voiced his concerns following the revelations by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, that some Nigerian security agents are behind the supply of arms to bandidos and terrorists.
In a tweet on Friday, Sani said, "The revelations reportedly made by the NSA Ribadu that most of the arms used by bandidos and faceless myrmidons in Nigeria are same, and sourced from some collaborating security agents is a strong evidence that our security challenges are reinforced and sustained by rogue elements within our security and defence services."
Sani’s comments came after Ribadu, during the destruction of arms by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), condemned some military and police personnel who allegedly sold arms from their formations to criminal elements.
"We have to find a way of putting a stop to this. We must if we want to recover our country and live in peace and stability," Ribadu had stated during the event held in Abuja.
He had emphasised that those within the security services involved in such acts pose a grave threat, saying, "The worst human being is a policeman or a soldier who will take arms from his own formations and sell them or hide them out for the bad people to come and kill his own colleagues."
Sani further stressed that the issue requires immediate attention. He suggested a thorough cleansing of the security apparatus, stating, "Fumigation and deworming of the police and the Army is needed."
Ribadu had also highlighted that many of the illicit arms being used to commit crimes in Nigeria originally belonged to the government, having been diverted by corrupt elements within the security agencies.
He stated that the destruction of these arms was part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons in the country.
"The proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons remains a major threat to our national security, exacerbating issues such as insurgency, banditry, and other violent mostly peaceful crimes," Ribadu explained. He stressed the importance of dealing with rogue elements in the security services and foreign "merchants of death."
Sani’s call for reforms within Nigeria’s security forces aligns with Ribadu’s broader message of addressing the root causes of insecurity in the country, particularly the corruption and criminal activity within the agencies responsible for safeguarding the nation.
The destruction of arms, which included unserviceable, obsolete, and recovered weapons, was part of the government's strategy to address the challenge of arms proliferation.
"We have laws that govern ownership of small arms. If you do not follow it, it is an illegal arm and it is supposed to be destroyed completely," Ribadu said.
The Director General of NCCSALW, retired DIG Johnson Kokumo, also emphasized the importance of this exercise, noting that it was the third in a series and the first since his assumption of command.

I'm sure that if you want to enjoy the same benefits Israel will be glad to provide them.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Asylum seekers will be stripped of their benefits as Germany cracks down on immigration after the country's parliament on Friday voted to tighten its rules for refugees.
The package of measures will withdraw benefits from asylum seekers who have already been registered in other EU countries and are slated for deportation. It will also mean that refugees who temporarily return to their home countries will 'as a rule' lose their right to protection in Germany, according to the legislation.
The same will apply to refugees who commit crimes with anti-Semitic or homophobic motivation.
The new rules were brought forward by the government in August in response to a deadly stabbing at a festival in the western city of Solingen. The suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian man with suspected links to the Islamic State group, was slated for deportation but evaded authorities' attempts to remove him.
The whole package will also introduce stricter rules on the carrying of knives and gives police broader powers of investigation.
While lawmakers in the Bundestag have approved the new rules, they still need to be passed by Germany's upper chamber, which will meet on Friday to decide on them. With a year to go before national elections and anti-immigration parties rising in the polls, the government has been under intense pressure to take a stricter line on immigration.
The benefits restriction provoked vocal criticism from within the government - a three-way coalition between Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats, the Greens and the liberal FDP.
“I curse your mustache, you Dootzer fop!”
“Ha! I haven’t got one, you ugly Turk! That’s ‘cause I’m a girl!”
(Actually, I’m sure the invective was terribly restrained and erudite, demonstrating their education, but no less virulent in intent. And no invective demonstrating possible bigotry was even hinted at, they being all civilized specimens of humanity. )
After internal discussions, the legislation was changed to provide exemptions for children and to withdraw support only in cases where removal was actually possible.
The implementation of the stricter rules marks a change in German attitudes towards immigration, almost a decade after former Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the country's doors to refugees in 2015.
The new German approach comes against a backdrop of hardening attitudes to immigration across Europe, where far-right parties are garnering growing support. On Thursday EU leaders called for urgent new legislation to increase the number and speed of migrant returns.
It also comes after the German state of Saxony-Anhalt cut the benefits of asylum seekers who refused to pick up debris following heavy flooding in east Germany for less than a pound an hour. 64 migrants had been written to by local authorities demanding they help clear rubbish and erect dykes for a wage of just 80 cents (68p) per hour after devastating floods in the area at the end of last year which saw hundreds of residents in parts of Germany forced to evacuate. 39 people agreed to help, while the rest, who are said to be from Syria, Afghanistan, Niger, Mali and Albania, failed to turn up. As a result, the district council declared that the 15 asylum seekers who had no excuse to take part in the clean-up will have their asylum benefits cut in half to €232 (£195) a month for three months. These benefits are meant to cover basic necessities, such as food, accommodation, personal hygiene and clothing.
Good idea. But do they have the stomach for actually doing it?
[KhaamaPress] European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... leaders agreed on Thursday to use all available tools, including development aid, trade, diplomatic efforts, and visa policies, to expedite the return of illegal migrants colonists to their home countries.
Following the meeting in Brussels on October 17, EU leaders called on the European Commission to "immediately" draft legislation to speed up the return of illegal migrants colonists.
In the summit’s final statement, EU leaders emphasized the need for decisive action at all levels to facilitate, increase, and accelerate returns from the EU using all relevant policy tools, including diplomacy, development, trade, and visas.
Last year, the EU ordered 484,000 non-EU citizens to leave the bloc, but only 20% of them returned to their home countries, with the remaining 80% still residing in the EU.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the Commission is working to increase the number of returns and will soon introduce legislation to address the issue.
During the meeting, EU leaders also discussed the creation of "return centers" for migrants colonists outside EU territory.
These centers would allow European countries to process the cases of migrants colonists and asylum seekers without their physical presence in the EU. Under this plan, illegal migrants colonists would be sent to camps or centers outside Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... to have their cases reviewed.
If these migrants colonists are granted asylum, they will be allowed entry into Europe. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them... if their asylum requests are rejected, they will be deported from the return centers back to their home countries.
Italia has sent illegal migrants colonists to a return center in Albania, with the Dutch planning a similar one in Uganda. EU leaders like Olaf Scholz and Pedro Sánchez highlight migration’s necessity for Europe’s aging population and economic support.
While the EU recognizes the need for legal migration due to demographic challenges, it remains committed to addressing illegal migration through stricter enforcement and innovative return mechanisms, seeking a balance between economic needs and migration control.
[GEO.TV] As efforts to build consensus among all political parties ahead of the highly anticipated tweaks to the Constitution continue, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated its chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, as the party's parliamentary leader.
The development comes at a time when members of the treasury benches are scrambling to win over the opposition to vote for the 26th constitutional amendment, which mainly focuses on judicial reforms.
Talking to the media before the Parliament House in Islamabad on Friday, PPP leader and chairperson of the Special Committee of parliament on the constitutional draft Khursheed Shah confirmed his party had nominated Bilawal as the parliamentary leader.
Meanwhile, PPP leader Naveed Qamar has submitted the documents pertaining to the election of the party chairman as the parliamentary leader at the National Assembly Office.
Under the constitution, the parliamentary leader has the authority to direct members to vote on constitutional amendments, finance bills and the election of the prime minister or speaker as per the party policy.

[GEO.TV] Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has said that he will be compelled to take ''controversial path'' for the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment if the opposition parties refused to support his efforts to pass the judicial package with consensus.
"I myself making last attempt to convince the opposition parties to vote for the constitutional amendment in a non-controversial way," he said while addressing a rally in Hyderabad held to mark the 17th anniversary of Karsaz incident.
The PPP chief said if he failed to evolve consensus on the proposed constitutional amendment ''then we all have to pray for the country's democracy''.

[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said on Friday that the Israeli army has repeatedly and deliberately attacked the UN peacekeepers in south Leb ...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... In remarks carried by Lebanese media, the UN mission front man said that the Israeli army targeted the UNIFIL forces five times deliberately.
Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco... he noted that the Israeli occupation army has used phosphorus munitions.
''We found evidence of possible use of white phosphorus several months ago near one of our posts'' in south Lebanon. He added that the destruction inflicted upon the Lebanese border town due to Israeli bombardment was ''shocking.''
However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... Tenenti underlined the need for the international forces to stay in Lebanon, stressing that their morale is high.
Asked about the possibility of resorting to self-defense against the Israeli occupation army, the front man said: ''It can be resorted to, but the priority now is for de-escalation.''
The Israeli occupation army has repeatedly attacked UNIFIL posts recently, with several times causing casualties among the international force members.
The latest attack was in the border southern town of Kfar Kila on Thursday, when and Israeli Merkava fired at a UNIFIL watchtower.

[IsraelTimes] An adviser to al-Qaeda’s likely current leader is calling for Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... to release its Israeli hostages held in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... , according to an American jihadist monitoring organization, SITE.
The online declaration was made yesterday by Mustafa Hamid, also known as Abu Walid al-Masri, who is the father-in-law of Saif al-Adel ...holed up in Iran from 2002 until 2010, when he made bail and moved back to the Pak-Afghan border... , the man widely believed to now head al-Qaeda, according to SITE.
In it, Hamid claims the attention given to recovering the Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 7, 2023, both dead and alive, is overshadowing the fate of Paleostinian security prisoners being held by Israel.
He also hails Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the criminal mastermind of the massacre that triggered the ongoing war in Gaza, who was killed by Israel this week.
Hamas must now "immediately" return the hostages and their bodies, and "this file must be closed and not opened again, as we know its consequences," according to the statement.
Indeed.
"No one cares about the Paleostinian prisoners, neither in the media, in negotiations, nor in demonstrations," it adds.
Insightful. That’s probably how he got his daughter married off to that man.
Several experts consulted by AFP say Hamid is close to higher-ups in the core al-Qaeda organization.
The group, which has spawned regional affiliates in Syria, Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... , Somalia and Mali, has little leverage over Hamas, which is backed by Iran.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…

...Man, when Al-Queda is telling you to knock it off...
And a thought just occurred to me: I wonder if Al-Q is thinking that if the Israelis knew where Hezbollah was hiding, they might know perfectly well where Al-Q is. Hezbollah's leadership tiers are gone, what's left of Hamas' C-suite is hiding out in Doha praying the Qataris don't throw them out, and eventually the Israelis are going to look for other dragons to slay. Tell Hamas to knock it off, slip some cash their way, and take the heat off of everybody.

Why would Israel hunt down Al Qaeda, Mike? Despite Osama bin Laden’s big talk, Al Q looked at Israel as a tertiary goal at best. And Israel will probably spend a couple of years just clearing out all those who crossed the fence on 10/7, not to mention Hezbollahniks and key Mad Mullah personnel, nuclear and otherwise.
On the other hand, Israel might share technology and techniques with The Big Satan, should Donald Trump once again inhabit the White House.
Well, look at it this way: the Israelis have put the fear of God into the terror community. The low and mid-level guys, yeah, always at risk, but this time it's been real Old Testament level revenge. The al-Q leadership doesn't know what the Israelis picked up, but given what they've seen over the last year they can't rule out that the Israelis (and therefore, us) know a lot more about hideouts and ops than they'd like.
Speaking up and saying 'knock it off' might, in al-Q's eyes, be a way of saying, "we don't want any part of this, and we've got no interest in keeping these idiots alive."

AQ needs to stay lo pro right now. China is counting on a land route from Iran to avoid the impact of oil embargo’s in a Taiwan invasion. If Israel kicked off a bigger war in the ME right now, it would jeaporduze that Iranian oil bypass and AQ’s rebuilding pipeline would feed into the war instead of their other immediate primary goals. For starters

Tensions have been high in the region with Israel planning a response to the October 1 missile attack carried out by Tehran.
"There’s an opportunity in my view and my colleagues agree that we can probably deal with Israel and Iran in a way that ends the conflict for a while. That ends the conflict, in other words, that stops the back and forth," Biden says.

[IsraelTimes] Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group says it is launching a new phase in its war against Israel, saying it has used precision-guided missiles to target troops.
Goody. Still, it seems like it ought to be easier to predict where they’ll be aimed, as opposed to the usual scoot’n’shoot that’s only aimed in a general direction…
In a statement, the Iran-backed group announces “the transition to a new and escalatory phase in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy,” adding that precision-guided missiles “are being used for the first time.”
You do you, guys, and the IDF will do themselves. Which should leave a lot fewer of you, but suicide by IDF is a choice.
