Afghanistan
Taliban ordered to return, warns of ‘major’ battle
[KhaamaPress] Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters have reportedly been called out of their traditional winter break from fighting to front-line duty, three bully boy leaders told NBC News, amid growing concerns within the group that the new Biden administration will stop the withdrawal of foreign troops.

NBC News in a report said, that the Taliban are preparing for the War after their traditional break, three Taliban leaders have told NBC news.

According to NBC News, Taliban commanders and group’s shadow governors are ordered to return to the frontlines and to their positions and attend special sessions to plan future strategies.

A study group assigned by the US congress also earlier had reported that Afghanistan will be on the brink of a " new civil war" if US troops make a hasty, irresponsible full withdrawal.

According to NBC, a Taliban political leader in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
, said that the group’s plans were to capture the big and strategical provinces of Afghanistan in case the grinding of the peace processor takes another turn.

NBC reported Taliban commanders in key districts were recalled to take positions.

Taliban told NBC that their leadership should also address multiple problems including "deadlock in the grinding of the peace processor and doubted on the new US administration.

The US administration is currently reviewing the situation and US-Taliban deal and asked for a delay of troop’s withdrawal.

This comes on the heels of a Taliban statement that warned the US government that breaking the February deal will result in "Major war" if the Biden administration does not stand to its commitment to withdraw troops by end of April.

"If the Doha agreement is abrogated, it will lead to a major war, the responsibility of which shall fall squarely on the shoulders of America," Taliban statement added, "If God forbid, the Doha agreement is breached, it will lead to a dangerous escalation for which the opposing side will be responsible".

"all must desist from provocative actions and rhetoric that could lead us all back to former war footing posture because such is neither in the interest of America nor in the interest of the Afghan people", the Taliban added.

Stating against the International Crisis Group’s report, that the US is required to extend the deadline for full withdrawal

"This is not enough time for the new administration to set its policy course and evaluate Taliban compliance with the counter-terrorism assurances it provided in the February deal.

"Nor is it sufficient time for the Afghan parties — who, for instance, spent three months negotiating a brief set of procedural rules for talks — to notch any meaningful agreements," ICG said in a statement.

This comes amid stalled peace talks, the surge in violence, and uncertainty in new international plans for Afghanistan.

"These demands are not open to negotiation or discussion. The Taliban must act, and act immediately. They will hand over the terrorists, or they will share in their fate."

George W. Bush, Statement To Joint Session Of Congress September 20th 2001

The Taliban ignored the demands. Their mere existence implies they won.

Of course GWB's statement was never to be taken seriously. Powell retracted it less than a moth later in Pakistan.

#3  A couple of GBUs on key areas in Balochistan, Multan and carpet bombing along the durand line would have won it. Thanks to the American deepState's undying love for Pakistain, this did not happen.

Somalia's latest election talks collapses as sides still 'far apart'
I know. We are all so very shocked, dear Reader. Herewith, more on the subject than you want to know, unless you want to know more
[Garowe] Uncertainty looms large in Somalia after leaders of the Federal Government and the Federal States failed to reach a deal on contentious issues over the upcoming elections during a three-day meeting in Dhusamareb.

The talks have completely collapsed, said Federal Information Minister Osman Dubbe at a late-night presser in the central city, blaming some Federal States for rejecting consensus.

The split comes as the president's term expires on 8 February.

The impasse over the Gedo issue sparked the meeting to end in failure as President Ahmed Madobe refused the government to manage the electoral process in Jubaland, especially in Garbaharey, where 16 Federal MPs will be elected.

Somali leaders signed an electoral deal last September 17 in Mogadishu, agreeing parliamentary elections to take place at two locations within every state in the five Somali Federal States.

According to Swan, the 17 September election model must be respected and all political parties are obliged to follow through with the agreement.

But President Farmajo insisted that his government will take charge of the management of one constituency in Jubaland which is his hometown Garbaharey, an attempt that Madobe rejected.

Jubaland president told the news hounds in Dhusamareb that Farmajo is sowing division among the people in his State and creating a new conflict in Somalia for his personal gains.

Among the contentious issues include the election of the Members of both levels of parliament from Somaliland — a secessionist northern region that will be elected in Mogadishu. This has been resolved.

The conference in Dhusamareb, some 400 km (250 miles) north of the capital Mogadishu was the latest effort to break an election deadlock and avoid a constitutional crisis in Somalia.

Farmajo is expected to return to Mogadishu in the coming hours to address the national assembly amid division among the two houses over the session as the Senate announced it received no official request from the president over the joint sitting.

Madobe accused Farmajo of destroying the agreed-upon federal power structure after declining to allow his administration to oversee the Garbaharey election, a case that highlights the tensions is Gedo, where the government sent troops to the region near the Kenyan border last year.

Since last year, Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
and Jubaland as well as the Union of the presidential candidates have been asking for the federal troops to leave, but Villa Somalia refused and ignored the calls, sparking a crisis.

BLM Cleric: ‘Cult' of 100-Year-Old Charity-Raising WWII Veteran Is ‘White British Nationalism'
[Breitbart] An organised clap for the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, a 100-year-old Second World War veteran who raised tens of millions for charity, was denounced as "a cult of White British Nationalism" by a Black Lives Matter supporting Church of England cleric.

The centenarian, who became something of a pandemic celebrity after taking his Zimmer frame to raise £1,000 for a National Health Service (NHS) affiliated charity ahead of his 100th birthday, walking lengths of his garden. In fact, after his attempt received widespread media attention he wound up raising well over £30 million.

The former British Army officer became a household name, and was promoted to an honourary colonelship and knighted by the Queen for his efforts — but recently passed away, having contracted the Chinese virus.

The news was widely reported and well-wishers arranged a national clap in commemoration — but not everyone was on board with the idea, with Church of England cleric Reverend Jarel Robinson-Brown, who goes by ’Black Prophetic Fire’ on social media, declaring in no uncertain terms that "the cult of Captain Tom is a cult of White British Nationalism".

The Reverend, a former Methodist and self-described "liberation theologian" who has a book titled Black, Gay, British, Christian, Queer coming out this summer, has now deleted the tweet, a subsequent apology, and his entire Twitter account — but not before social media users uncovered a trove of similarly political and perhaps somewhat less than Christian postings.

These included posts abusing the Conservative business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng in Ghanaian, an offering of Sunday blessings to "everyone except Boris [Johnson], [Home Secretary] Priti [Patel] and all other oppressors", and a bio containing the threatening words "Justice, Freedom, Liberation, Equality: By Any Means Necessary".

Islamic Groups Reject Macron Values Charter and Concept of a French Islam
[Breitbart] Three major Islamic groups continue to reject President Emmanuel Macron’s charter of principles for Islam in La Belle France.

The Coordinating Committee of Ottoman Turkish Moslems of La Belle France (CCMTF), the Islamic Confederation of Millî Görus (CIMG), and Faith and Practice initially rejected the charter on January 18th, telling the Elysée Palace that they would not sign the document.

Earlier this week, the groups sent a list of suggested amendments to the French Council of the Moslem Faith (CFCM) along with comments on the text of the charter and outlined why they have not changed their position.

Asylum-seekers Stuck in Cyprus' Cramped Camp Want Out
[AnNahar] Emmanuel Conteh negotiates the muddy, rutted pathways in shorts and torn plastic flip-flops and says he can't sleep in his heavy canvas tent at night because of the cold. He laments the "hellish" conditions in ethnically divided Cyprus' cramped Pournara migrant reception camp, where he's been living for the past two months after flying to the breakaway Ottoman Turkish Cypriot north and then clandestinely crossing into the internationally recognized south.
To someone who can afford a $1300 flight from Sierra Leon to Turkish Cyprus, such conditions are definitely below standard. And the ...[your adjective here] ought not be wasting everyone’s time and taking aid intended for people in desperate need.
He says he fled his native Sierra Leone because he was persecuted for refusing to follow in his father's footsteps and practice a kind of witchcraft.

"The head of this society, they want to train me, but I refused," said Conteh.
What an entitled little brat.
He wants Cypriot authorities to swiftly process his asylum application

Bipartisan Support for Domestic Terror Laws; Civil Rights Groups Oppose
[Daily Caller] A bipartisan group of lawmakers came out in support of new domestic terror laws this week, despite earlier opposition from over 150 civil rights groups that were concerned about the implications for minority communities.
Well, conservative Christians - that's a minority group, right?
Experts said domestic terrorist groups could pose a continuing threat after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, leading to a bipartisan majority of the House Homeland Security Committee to agree on considering new laws to address potentially harmful groups, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
Fortunately, one need not actually visit their website.
But 156 civil rights groups, including the NAACP, the Human Rights Campaign and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, had sent a letter to Congress on Jan. 19 describing concern about expanding legal authority related to terrorism.

"We must meet the challenge of addressing white nationalist and far-right militia violence without causing further harm to communities already disproportionately impacted by the criminal-legal system," the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights wrote.
So there you are - it is still acceptable to target some minority groups.

UN recognizes threat to Pakistan by Afghan-based TTP, JuA terrorists
[DailyTimes.pk] A new United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
report has acknowledged the action taken by Pak government against individuals engaged in terrorist activities, adding that terrorist group Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) is responsible for over 100 cross-border attacks within three months last year.

On its part, Pakistain has consistently highlighted the terrorism threat from the TTP.

The 27th report to the United Nations Security Council, under the United Nations (UN) monitoring team that tracks Al Qaeda, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and other krazed killer groups, points to the arrests in Pakistain of ’individuals engaging in terrorism financing and the freezing of the assets of designated individuals and entities’.

Diplomats noted that the UN acknowledgment of Pakistain actions comes at a time when India continues to blame Pakistain for inaction against the designated groups.

Reporting on the activities of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), the UN report saw the ’reunification of splinter groups (of TTP) that took place in Afghanistan’. The report records that ’five entities pledged alliance to TTP in July and August (2020), including the Shehryar Mehsud group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, Hizb-ul-Ahrar, the Amjad Farooqi group and the Usman Saifullah group (formerly known as Lashkar-e- Jhangvi)’.

The report cautions that the merger of TTP has enhanced the threat of terrorism to Pakistain and the region, as it has ’increased the strength of TTP and resulted in a sharp increase in attacks’. In this regard, the UN reported that ’TTP was responsible for more than 100 cross-border attacks between July and October 2020’. The report said that, based on estimates, the TTP’s fighting strength ranges between 2,500 and 6,000.

Last year, Pakistain handed over a dossier to UN Secretary General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
on the Indian sponsorship of TTP and JuA. Both terrorist groups have been designated by the 1267 Sanctions Committee of the Security Council.

Pearl case accused moved to new premises
[Dawn] The Sindh government on Saturday moved Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh,
...also in our archives as Ahmad Saeed Omar Sheikh and Ahmed Omar Sheikh. He’s the Pakistani-Brit who has spent nearly two decades in various Pak government safe houses, protected from being either hanged or transferred to the U.S. for his not-minor role in Israeli-American Daniel Pearl’s heinous murder. He’d been a brilliant but violent lad, growing to be a violent and possibly brilliant man who hit all the jihadi hotspots at their peak: the London School of Economics, Bosnia during their little war, running Al Qaeda’s Afghan training camps, then jailed by India for kidnapping Western tourists in Kashmir for Pakistan’s ISI. He and two Harkat-ul-Mujahideen emirs were traded for the passengers and crew of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane in 1999, after which he wandered down to Karachi to hang with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s (KSM) gang. This may yet turn out to have been a fatal error...
the prime accused in the 2002 killing of American journalist Daniel Pearl, and his four associates
...Fahad Naseem, Sheikh Adil, and Salman Saqib. Saud Memon, accused of providing the place where Pearl was held before his death, died mysteriously in 2007, while Qari Hashim Ali was freed in 2014 when the court ruled there was not enough evidence to hold him. I wonder who the fourth protected man is...
from jail to a newly-built facility inside the prison, sources privy to the development said.
That’s one way to keep American ghosts from wandering off with him one dark night.
The move came in line with the Supreme Court’s orders last week that authorities must move Sheikh from a death cell in the Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Central Prison to a government rest house.

"All the suspects have been moved to the newly-built rest house inside the prison," said a source, citing a notification issued by the Sindh home department. "They would be allowed to see their families
..I believe Mr. Sheikh acquired a wife and daughter between being returned from Indian imprisonment and the murder of Daniel Pearl, in addition to the relatives he acquired by birth...
at the rest house though they would not enjoy any internet and telephone facility. The families of the suspects have also been offered space in Qasr-e-Naz" — a federal government owned building in the city.

The apex court had also directed the authorities to ensure complete security of the rest house, and allowed Sheikh’s family access to him from 8am to 5pm, while hearing a petition filed by the accused against his detention despite the high court’s orders. The SC had taken up an appeal moved by the Sindh government against the Sindh High Court’s Dec 24, 2020, order declaring illegal the provincial government’s June 29, 2020, notification of placing all accused on the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorist Act of 1997 pursuant to Section 11-EE with an observation that none of the accused was "enemy alien" as contemplated under Article 10(9) of the Constitution and as such their detention under this provision was found to be illegal.

Osama bin Laden used to support, fund Nawaz Sharif: Abida Hussain
Why is she saying this now?
[DailyTimes.pk] Pakistain’s former ambassador to the United States Abida Hussain
...second gen. politician in the Pakistan Muslim League, diplomat, and socialite, though unlike Papa she’ll never be made honourary colonel in the Indian army (pre-split, of course). She accomplished quite a list of political firsts for women in Pakistan, including making Haq-Nawaz Jhangvi so angry by beating him in an election that he stormed off and founded his eponymous Deobandi jihadi group, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, and put her name on LeJ’s hit list. Wikipedia believes that’s why PM Nawaz sent her to faraway America as Pakistan’s ambassador...
Saturday revealed that the late Osama bin Laden
...... who doesn't live anywhere anymore......
had supported and funded former prime minister Nawaz Sharif
...served two three non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...

Iraq
Peshmerga ‘double up on security’ after ISIS attacks
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — A Peshmerga commander told Rudaw on Saturday that they have increased security measures, one day after several policemen in Kirkuk province were killed and wounded in a suspected Islamic State (ISIS) attack. ISIS has carried out several deadly attacks in Iraq so far this year, sparking fears the group is gaining strength.

“We have doubled up on security checkpoints,” Sirwan Barzani, commander of Peshmerga forces on the Gwer-Makhmour front, told Rudaw’s Sirwan Abbas on Saturday.

He said the militants are taking advantage of poor weather. “In foggy weather, the fighter jets can’t spot Daesh [ISIS] and target them. That is why they attack during those times.”

On Friday, Iraqi security forces in Daquq district, south of Kirkuk came under attack, resulting in the death and injury of several federal policemen. ISIS “took advantage of the rainy weather to launch an attack” that night, a local security source told Rudaw’s Hiwa Hussamadin.

Middle East: Are people losing their religion?
[DW] Recent surveys indicate strongly that across the Middle East and Iran, almost half the population is loosening their ties to Islam. Governments have reacted differently to calls for reforms of institutional religion.

Few topics are as delicate as religion — especially in the Middle East.

Officially, Arab states have major Moslem populations, varying from around 60% in Leb

German Firm to Clear Beirut Port of Dangerous Containers
[AnNahar] A German firm has treated 52 containers of hazardous material at Beirut port and will ship them out of Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, the German ambassador said Saturday, months after a monster port blast.

Andreas Kindl said on Twitter that the heavy lift transport company Combi Lift "has treated 52 containers of hazardous and dangerous chemical material that had been accumulated over decades and were a threat to the people in Beirut".

"They stand ready to be shipped to" Germany, he added.

The August 4 explosion of a stockpile of ammonium nitrate fertiliser that had been left to languish haphazardly at the Beirut port for years killed more than 200 people, maimed at least 6,500 others and ravaged swaths of the capital.

Lebanon's worst peace-time disaster sparked concerns over remaining shipments of hazardous chemicals still stored at the blast site.

In November, Lebanon signed a contract with Combi Lift, which was already working at the port, to clear containers carrying hazardous chemicals.

The containers, which include corrosive acids, had been stored in an open-air cargo zone for over a decade under the supervision of Lebanon’s customs authority, officials said at the time.

If they catch fire "Beirut will be wiped out", interim port chief Bassem al-Kaisi said in November.

Kindl on Saturday published pictures on Twitter showing fraying containers at the port and what appears to be chemicals leaking from some of them.

Lebanese authorities have said Combi Lift will ship the chemicals in special containers as part of a $3.6 million deal, with the port authority reportedly to pay $2 million of that.

Lebanon's army and port authority have said they do not have the expertise to handle such a process.

Lebanon has launched an investigation into the August blast amid public anger against a political class widely blamed for the tragedy.

At least 25 people have been arrested, including the port chief and the head of the customs authority, but no politician has been held to account.

Harvard University’s Law Review publication elects its first Muslim, Egyptian-American president
[AlAhram] The Harvard Law Review, one of the most prestigious US law journals, is an entirely student-run publication with the largest circulation of any law journal in the world

Harvard University’s affiliate Law Review has elected Egyptian-American Hassaan Shahawy as its 135th President, Harvard Law Today said in a statement on Friday.
Meeting the same low bar as when Baracky Obama was elected President in 1990
Born in Los Angeles to an Egyptian Moslem family, Shahawy, 26, is believed to be Harvard Law Review’s first Moslem president in its 134-year history.

The Harvard Law Review, one of the most prestigious US law journals, is an entirely student-run publication with the largest circulation of any law journal in the world. It is published monthly from November through June and was founded in 1887 by future Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis.

Shahawy told Rooters that he hoped his election represented "legal academia’s growing recognition of the importance of diversity, and perhaps its growing respect for other legal traditions."
English Common Law, as you will no doubt have been taught at Harvard Law, Mr. Shahawy, has been developing since the Dark Ages. American Common Law is built on the base of English Common Law as it existed at the time of our Revolution, but has since developed in a direction more suited to our national ethos and particular experiences. Some other legal traditions cannot possibly suit us as well, especially Sharia Law because of its emphasis on inequality under the law for different groups. You are here because American Common Law has worked well for your family, too.
According to Harvard Law Today, Shahawy graduated from Harvard College in 2016 with an A.B. in History and Near Eastern Studies. He then attended the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar to pursue a doctorate in Oriental Studies, and alongside that studied Islamic law traditionally both in the UK and in the Moslem world.
Egypt? Saudi Arabia? Pakistan? Turkey? None have legal systems worth respecting.
He has also been involved in direct services work with refugee populations and incarcerated people.

"Coming from a community routinely demonised in American public discourse, I hope this represents some progress, even if small and symbolic," Rooters quoted Shahawy as saying.

Shahawy’s predecessor Michaeljit Sandhu hailed him in statements to the Harvard Law Today in which he described the Egyptian-American as "astoundingly smart and unceasingly modest".

"His collaborative approach to leadership, deep commitment to engagement across difference, and excellent judgment will serve the Review extremely well during this extraordinary time. I am so excited to see what he and all the editors in Volume 135 do next," said Sandhu.
Al Arabiya adds:
Shahawy said he has been active working with refugee populations and on criminal justice reform. His future plans are unclear, though he cited the possibility of becoming a public interest lawyer or working in academia.

Hassaan Shahawy was student editor of SHARIAsource, the Harvard programme in Islamic law. You read that right.

Goddamn, it was better off just producing Psychology hacks and inhuman lawyers and managers.

#5  I don't know the specifics of what Shahawy is studying but among the frontiers of Islamic Law these days are:

- work around to avoid the discrimination against women in testimony, divorce and inheritance

- work around to allow interest based financing

there are a number of 'progressive muslims' working on these while, of course, a lot of them work on the killing infidel rules and stuff like that

#6  If they want to know how to work around the Islamic proscription of interest on loans, they should just look to Saudi Arabia. Ever since the oil money started flowing in in earnest, the kingdom, its central bank (SAMA), and almost all the banks have been on an interest-bearing basis.

I don't know what contortions they went through, but they did justify it.
