Africa: 17 Million People Left Continent in 2017 - UN
[All Africa] No fewer than 17 million Africans left the continent in 2017 in search of greener pastures, a new report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has said.

The 'Economic Development in Africa' report also said 5.5 million people moved to Africa from other continents while some 19 million international migrants colonists moved within Africa.

"Overall, some 19 million international migrants colonists moved within Africa, and 17 million Africans left the continent during last year. The continent was also the destination for about 5.5 million people from outside," the report found.

It said the large-scale migration of people within Africa tended to boost growth and lifted the continent's whole economy, urging the world to dispel misconceptions and "harmful narratives" targeting migration.

The report also said cross-border movement offered "a chance for a better life, with the social and economic benefits extending to both source and destination countries, as well as future generations".

Mukhisa Kituyi, the Secretary-General of (UNCTAD), said at the launching the report: "Our analysis shows this to be true for millions of African migrants colonists and their families".

Kituyi added that public perception, "particularly as it relates to international African migration, is rife with misconceptions that have become part of a divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
, misleading and harmful narrative."

The report said remittances travelling back home from migrant workers both outside and inside Africa rose - on average - from 38.4 billion dollars between 2005 to 2007, to 64.9 billion dollars, during the two-year period up to the end of 2016.

UAE jails activist for 10 years over social media posts
[DAWN] Prominent Emirati activist Ahmed Mansoor has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined 1 million AED ($272,000) on charges of criticising the United Arab Emirates government on social media, The National newspaper reported late on Wednesday.

A trade and tourism hub, the UAE is an absolute monarchy that tolerates little public criticism of its ruling system and has prosecuted Mansoor and other freedom fighters for making what it called insulting comments about the country’s leaders.

Mansoor was among five activists convicted of those charges in 2011 amid the Arab Spring protests calling for reform in other Arab states.

Al-Qaeda issues warning to Saudi crown prince
[PRESSTV] The Yemen-based al-Qaeda offshoot has warned Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

(AQAP) said in its news bulletin.

The crown prince has launched a package of the so-called reforms in the ultraconservative kingdom, whose radical Wahhabi ideology has inspired groups such as al-Qaeda. The reforms included allowing women to drive and reinstating cinemas.

Bin Salman "opened the door wide for corruption and moral degradation," said in the bulletin, which was picked up by the SITE Intelligence Group.

The bully boy group also slammed an April WWE Royal Rumble event in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

"Disbelieving wrestlers exposed their privates and on most of them was the sign of the cross, in front of a mixed gathering of young Moslem men and women," it said.

"The corruptors did not stop at that, for every night musical concerts are being announced, as well as movies and circus shows," SITE quoted it as saying.

According to a report by French daily Le Monde on Friday, King Salman has written a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, expressing his "profound concern" over ongoing negotiations between Qatar and Russia for the sale of the advanced anti-aircraft weapon system.

The Saudi king noted that Doha's acquisition of S-400 will jeopardize the security interests of Riyadh, urging La Belle France to intensify pressure on Qatar in an attempt to prevent the country from purchasing the air defense system.

"[In such a situation], the kingdom would be ready to take all the necessary measures to eliminate this defense system, including military action," King Salman was quoted as saying in the letter.

The report came a day after Saudi Ambassador to Russia Rayed Krimly said negotiations between Riyadh and Moscow over the purchase of the S-400 missile system were "advancing well," noting that the two sides were working out the technical details of the contract. Soddy Arabia

Trump names evangelical pro-Israel activist to religious freedoms commission
[IsraelTimes] Christians United for Israel director Gary Bauer says efforts to focus on rising persecution of Jews and Christians in Moslem countries

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
named Gary Bauer, the Washington director of Christians United for Israel, to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.

"We have seen a disturbing rise in anti-Semitism and persecution of Christians around the world, but especially in the Middle East," Bauer, a veteran of top Education Department posts in the Reagan administration, said in a CUFI release on Thursday. "We must confront these two threats. Through this post, I will work to ensure the President and Congress are provided real policy options for contending with religious persecution in the world."

The commission is an independent body that tracks religious freedoms overseas.

In a tweet Bauer, a longtime evangelical activist, said his "focus" in the post "will be on the growing persecution of Christians and the rising tide of anti-Semitic hatred around the world. Moslem majority nations are biggest culprits."
Commissioners are chosen by the president and congressional leaders of both parties for their experience, which may include specialization in defending a particular faith, but they are expected to address the range of allegations of persecution.

JTA asked Bauer if he would also focus on allegations of the persecution of Moslems, for instance in China and Burma.

"The commission has nine members, and I am sure persecution of Moslems will be the focus or main priority of some of them," he told JTA. "I have spoken out against all religious persecution, but my focus will be Christian persecution and anti-Semitism."

Christians United for Israel has become a pro-Israel lobbying force in Washington, DC, and state capitals, with its politics skewing to the right.

Another appointee to the religious freedoms commission in May, Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, has drawn criticism because of his past controversial statements about Moslems and the LGBTQ community. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., named Perkins to the commission.

American BDS umbrella organization has financial ties to terror groups — report
[IsraelTimes] According to Tablet, US Campaign for Paleostinian Rights funnels funds to a group whose members include representatives of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, Paleostinian Islamic Jihad and PFLP

An umbrella group for American organizations that are part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement funnels donations to a Paleostinian organization with ties to terror groups, Tablet Magazine reported Friday.

According to Tablet, the US Campaign for Paleostinian Rights, which oversees the work of 329 different BDS organizations, fiscally sponsors the Paleostinian BDS National Committee (BNC), a West Bank- and Gazoo-based group that is the main coordinator of BDS efforts in the Paleostinian territories.

The Campaign funnels tax-exempt US donations to the BNC. The BNC, meanwhile, counts as one of its members the Council of National and Islamic Forces in Paleostine, a coalition of "resistance" movements that includes Hamas, Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine ‐ all considered terror groups by Israel, the US and Europe.

Tablet stressed in its report that "there is no indication that any of the money raised through the fiscal sponsorship is going to terror groups," but that a financial relationship of some sort was clear ‐ one that may be illegal under US law.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, which combats anti-Semitism and hate, said Tablet’s news hounds "have confirmed an official link between the American BDS campaign and some of the most evil, violent organizations on the planet."

It asserted that "Any person of faith who endorses the anti-Semitic BDS movement should now realize that they are also supporting the goals of its sponsors, among them people with the blood of more than 1,000 Israelis and tourists on their hands. The hypocrisy of BDS has always been obvious, but now it’s official."

Israel has intensified its fight against the global movement calling for boycotts, divestment and sanctions. The movement has urged businesses, artists and universities to sever ties with Israel and it includes thousands of volunteers around the world.

Supporters of the movement say the tactics are a nonviolent way to promote the Paleostinian cause. Israel says the campaign often masks a more far-reaching aim to delegitimize or destroy the Jewish state.

In May Jerusalem called on the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to halt funding to more than a dozen European and Paleostinian non-governmental organizations that it says promote boycotts against Israel, saying the financial support violates the EU’s stated policy that it opposes boycotts against the Jewish state.

Israel’s Strategic Affairs Ministry published a report with a list of groups that it said receive EU funding and call for boycotts against Israel. It said some of the groups had links to terror groups while receiving EU money.

Earlier this year, Israel identified 20 activist groups from around the world whose members would be banned from entering the country over their calls to boycott the Jewish state.

In the US legislative efforts have been made both on the federal level and in individual states to combat boycott calls.

In the years since its formation, the BDS movement has seen limited success among progressive audiences, persuading several church organizations to divest themselves of Israel-related investments and garnering support on US college campuses. Recently, pop singer Lorde joined a number of other artists who have canceled performances in Israel amid pressure from BDS activists.

Even so, a slew of other musicians have defied boycott calls and performed. Israel has also enjoyed new economic partnerships and diplomatic ties despite calls for boycotts, and it has become a top destination for international sporting and cultural events. Last month, Israel became the first non-European country to host stages of the Giro d’Italia cycling event.

India-Pakistan
New security policy focusing on mosque reforms to be launched
[DAWN] The National Internal Security Policy (NISP) released on Thursday for the first time focuses on ’mosque reforms’ which will be initiated from Islamabad.

The reform programme includes an audit of all funds raised for setting up, maintenance or expansion of mosques by the government to ensure transparency.

The policy says religion-based killings were the key source of terrorism in the country. Many terrorist groups remain active in the country with the stated aim of imposing their own interpretation of religion and establishing a global caliphate
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad retired Capt Mushtaq Ahmed expressed the confidence that the policy would be successfully implemented.

"There cannot be any abrupt change in society but there will be gradual transformation, and many holy mans are coming up to cooperate with the authorities."

He called upon the citizens to lodge complaints at the DC office if there is any illegal construction or establishment of mosques.

The policy says religion-based killings were the key source of terrorism in the country. Many terrorist groups remain active in the country with the stated aim of imposing their own interpretation of religion and establishing a global caliphate while discrediting democratically elected governments, civil and military institutions.

"Most of these terrorist outfits stand either proscribed or eliminated already by Pakistain but comprehensive action is required to remove their traces entirely and choke any financing that they may draw from the country."

The second most serious form of terrorism in the country, it states, was ’sectarian terrorism’ as several sectarian outfits originated in Pakistain and continued to have a presence and often used violent means to target prominent personalities, festivals and places of worship belonging to other sects.

The other two are ’ethno-political terrorism’ and ’sub-national terrorism’.

The policy focuses heavily on mosque reforms claiming that the federal government would work with provinces and religious leaders to initiate wide ranging reforms to make the mosques centres of learning and religious guidance for the citizens.

It has also been stated that a phased programme will be initiated from Islamabad along several lines which included setting up of a committee of religious scholars with representation from all schools of thought to formulate recommended syllabi and training for Imams.

The policy also suggests offering specialised training to Imams under the supervision of the committee of religious scholars and administered by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Polio eradication still seems far from reality
[DAWN] Despite expectations that the polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
virus would be eradicated in 2018, the emergence of two cases in Pakistain and nine cases in Afghanistan has panicked authorities in the health sectors as the two countries have been declared one block.

"Recently, an 18-month-old girl was diagnosed with poliovirus in Dukki district of Balochistan...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, taking the count for the first five months of the year in Pakistain to two. As poliovirus remains in a recessive mode during winters and becomes active with the increase in temperatures the coming days can be more worrying for us," said an official of the Ministry of National Health Services, requesting anonymity.

"Though the health authorities in Pakistain and Afghanistan have stopped levelling allegations against each other, it is a fact that due to security issues polio campaigns cannot be held in many parts of Afghanistan. Even if Pakistain eradicates the virus it cannot be declared a polio-free country unless the virus is eradicated in Afghanistan too," he said.

KP concerned over presence of terror group on Afghan border
[DAWN] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has expressed concerns over strengthening of krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group in the border areas of Afghanistan and termed its activities an indicator of unrest in the region.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the provincial authorities claimed that the security situation in KP was satisfactory.

A premier intelligence agency has already intimated to the government that Jammatul Ahrar, krazed killer Islamic State (IS) group and Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) have been a serious threat to security of the country.

According to sources, the concern about strengthening of IS on the border areas was shown by Inspector General of Police (IGP) KP Salahuddin Mehsud Khan during a briefing to the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta) in Islamabad recently.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the government has been denying the presence of IS snuffies in any part of the country.

The IGP said the law and order situation in the province was under control but the worsening security situation in Afghanistan and strengthening of the IS snuffies in the border areas of the neighbouring country were an indicator of unrest in the region.

He also informed Nacta that the IS had been seeking recognition in areas from Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central
...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. Its 52 km border border with Afghanistan's Kunar Province makes it of strategic importance to Pakistain's strategic depth...
to Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
The IGP sought better coordination among all law enforcement agencies to handle the situation.

He appreciated the role of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and expressed the hope that its capacity and strength would be enhanced.

When contacted, Mohammad Amir Rana, security and political analyst and director of Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), said law enforcement agencies already knew about surging of IS terror group in major parts of Afghanistan.

"Pak security and law enforcement agencies are already after ISIS and IS fighters but after recent suicide kaboom in Attock the law enforcement agencies, including the police, need to be more careful and take all possible measures to check them. Attock bombing was alarming for our law enforcement and intelligence agencies."

He said though none of the krazed killer groups, including IS and TTP, had grabbed credit for the Attock suicide kaboom, these groups could be behind the attack in which two people were killed and several others injured.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
Ihsan Ghani, the national coordinator for Nacta, told the briefing that the threat of terrorism was increasing as political activities for the upcoming general elections were about to start.

He said the security apparatus and intelligence agencies should be prepared to prevent any terrorist attack on political gatherings.

US vetoes Kuwaiti proposal on Gaza at UN Security Council
[IsraelTimes] Four other countries abstain in vote sponsored by Kuwait calling for international protection for Paleostinians as US plans to bring text to council condemning Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",

The United States vetoed Friday an Arab-backed UN draft resolution calling for protection measures for the Paleostinians that won backing from 10 countries at the Security Council.

China, La Belle France and Russia were among the countries that voted in favor of the draft put forward by Kuwait on behalf of Arab countries. Four countries, Æthiopia, the UK, the Netherlands and Poland abstained.

A draft resolution requires nine votes to be adopted in the 15-member council and no veto from the five permanent members ‐ Britannia, China, La Belle France, Russia and the United States.

The US, meanwhile, was bringing its own text to the council: A proposal that would condemn Hamas for its role in the escalation of violence in Gazoo in the last two months.

The council met for a closed-door discussion before the vote Friday, after weeks of urgent discussions about the violence.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
had vowed Thursday to veto Kuwait’s resolution on protecting Paleostinians. She called it "grossly one-sided and morally bankrupt" for demanding that the Israeli military halt "the use of any excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate force" while not mentioning Hamas, the terror group that controls Gazoo.

A council diplomat told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named the US also has proposed extensive amendments that would condemn Hamas for its role in the recent violence. The diplomat spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions were private. It’s not clear whether the amendments have the votes to pass.

The Security Council has been deeply divided and paralyzed over dealing with the decades-old Israeli-Paleostinian conflict and the burst of violence in Gazoo.

In two months of mass protests at the Gazoo border, some 110 Paleostinians were killed and thousands maimed by Israeli military fire. Israel said its troops were defending its border and accused Hamas of trying to attack under the cover of the protest.

Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
bombarded southern Israel with rockets and mortars Tuesday, and Israel responded by striking targets throughout Gazoo. Hamas said Wednesday it had agreed to a cease-fire with Israel.

The Kuwaiti draft resolution expresses "grave concern" at the increased violence and deteriorating situation in the Paleostinian territories and calls for urgent steps to ensure a "durable and fully respected cease-fire."

It asks UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a written report within 60 days on ways to ensure "the safety, protection and well-being of the Paleostinian civilian population under Israeli occupation," including recommendations about "an international protection mechanism." The measure also urges humanitarian access and seeks "tangible steps" toward reconciliation between different Paleostinian factions.

Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon called the draft biased and "not worthy of consideration by the Security Council." Neither Israel nor the Paleostinians are members of the council.

At Kuwait’s request, the council has held multiple emergency meetings on the border festivities. The US called an emergency session Wednesday on the barrage of rockets and mortars the day prior.

Israel and Hamas are bitter enemies and have fought three wars since the Islamic group seized control of Gazoo in 2007.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry quoted the Iraqi ambassador to Moscow, Haidar al-Athari, as saying "Regarding possibility of transferring Russian females, who were sentenced to life by the Iraqi judiciary in April over joining terrorist groups, to Russia to spend their sentence there, there is no agreements between the two countries to exchange prisoners or transfer them."

In case such agreement was signed, according to Athari, "it could be possible to do this, if the terms of the agreement allowed this, after Russian authorities request this. But at the meantime, a recognition of judgment request could be filed, then the court would consider it. If the suspects were condemned of terrorism or accessing the country illegally, they would be penalized, as per the Iraqi laws. If they were proven innocent, they would stand retrial."

Athari stressed that "the embassies of the two country are closely following up on the issue," adding that the Russian embassy in Baghdad and one of the Russian media channels filed a request to the Iraqi government to visit the Russian inmates and it was approved. He described this as an evidence for cooperation between the Russian and Iraqi government within legal contexts.

It added that "Baghdad was the worst affected Governorate, with 117 civilian casualties (45 killed, 72 injured), followed by Diyala with 9 killed and 35 injured, and Kirkuk with 20 killed and 16 injured".

The organization maintained that the numbers it provides were a "minimum", saying that hindrances to its works prevent it from setting the exact toll.

Out of the 15 UN Security Council members, Russia, La Belle France and China along with seven others voted in favor of the resolution on Friday, while four including Britannia abstained.

The draft called for "the consideration of measures to guarantee the safety and protection of the Paleostinian civilian population in the Occupied Paleostinian Territory, including in the Gazoo Strip."

Pentagon: Planned Syria attack on US allies 'bad policy'
[PRESSTV] The Pentagon has called on the Syrian government to reconsider its plans to launch attacks on Kurdish turbans and allied US forces which have been operating in areas in northeastern Syria.

Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, director of the joint staff, said on Thursday that Washington would deem it a bad policy for Syria if it attacked the SDF bully boy group, which enjoys massive US support.

"Any interested party in Syria should understand that attacking US Forces or our coalition partners will be a bad policy," said McKenzie during a presser.

The remarks came hours after Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

EU, China vow to uphold Iran nuclear deal
[IsraelTimes] The European Union

and China say they will do their utmost to keep afloat an international agreement to stop Iran developing nuclear weapons despite the US abandoning the pact.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says Friday that "we will be unswerving in upholding it."

Speaking alongside EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, he says the agreement has been endorsed by the UN and that "every party has the duty to implement it."

Mogherini, who helped oversee the implementation of the 2015 nuclear deal, praises China and says Beijing, the EU and other partners are working "in full coordination" to save the pact.

US President Donald Trump

Oil giant Total says ‘very slim’ chance it’ll receive Iran sanctions waiver

[IsraelTimes] French oil company Total says Friday the probability of winning an exemption from US sanctions against Iran to continue a major gas field project is very faint.

The energy giant had already warned that, unless Washington grants it a waiver, it would pull out of the South Pars 11 project which it started in July 2017, two years after Western powers signed a nuclear deal with Tehran prompting the return of many businesses to Iran.

But earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced his withdrawal from the deal, and told companies that they face sanctions if they do business with Iran.

Iran’s oil minister on Wednesday gave Total 60 days to win a sanctions waiver from Washington or lose its stake in the multi-billion-dollar project.

But on Friday, Total’s chairman Patrick Pouyanne tells shareholders that the prospect of a sanctions exemption are dim. “The probability of us getting an exemption is very slim,” he says.

Total said earlier this month that it has $10 billion of capital employed in its US assets, and US banks are involved in 90 percent of its financing operations, making Total highly vulnerable if targeted by any US actions.

By contrast, Total said it had spent less than 40 million euros ($47 million) on the Iranian project, which it runs with its partner Petrochina and which is dedicated to the supply of domestic gas inside Iran.

Russia OKs Israeli strikes on Iranian targets deep inside Syria — report
[IsraelTimes] Arabic daily says deal between Moscow and Jerusalem includes removal of Tehran-backed forces from border area, protection for Syrian army

Israel and Russia have reached an agreement green-lighting Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in Syria, as well as the withdrawal of Tehran-backed troops from Syria’s border with Israel, according to an Arabic media report Friday.

According to the Arabic-language daily Asharq al-Awsat, the agreement will see Iranian forces leave southwestern Syria, while allowing Israel to strike Iranian assets deep in the country. Israel agreed not to attack Syrian regime targets, the report said.

International coalition says 892 civilians killed in Iraq, Syria operations since 2014
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Operations by the U.S.-led international coalition against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
have killed 892 civilians since it started its offensives in 2014, the United States Central Command said.

"The Coalition conducted a total of 29,358 strikes between August 2014 and end of April 2018. During this period, based on information available, CJTF-OIR assesses at least 892 civilians have been unintentionally killed by Coalition strikes since the start of Operation Inherent Resolve".

Late April, the coalition announced it had ended its land operations in Iraq, shifting to training and consultancy roles backing the Iraqi forces.

The Iraqi government declared last december that its operations, backed by the coalition, managed to retake all areas occupied by IS bandidos holy warriors since 2014.

Syria, meanwhile, has been roiled by internal conflict since 2011. U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish troops, and Russian-backed Syrian government forces have recaptured the Islamic State’s and other myrmidons’ main bases in the country, and remnant myrmidon groups there have been evacuated from their latest bastions as part of agreements with Syrian forces sponsored by Russia.
