Al Shabaab 'Threaten to attack Kenya during Ramadan'
(Sh.M.Network)- -- Police have warned of fresh terror threats from Al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
snuffies who have warned of massive destruction in Kenya during Ramadan.

Nairobi Provincial Police chief Anthony Kibuchi said they had received intelligence reports that the cut-throats plan to hit their targets during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

"Al-Shabaab cut-throats have issued threats that they will carry out massive destruction during the month of Ramadan," Kibuchi said and urged the public to remain vigilant.

"Let everybody be extra alert," he added.

A police source told us "security has been intensified mainly inNairobi,Mombasa and border towns where the cut-throats are targeting."

Security has been intensified in government installations and public places, including hotels, the source added.

The group has in the past months threatened to bring downKenya's "tall glass buildings" after Kenyan troops crossed into Somalia last October following a spate of attacks and abductions in its territory that it blamed on the thugs.

The threats were first issued in May by a US-based private intelligence firm Intel Center, which reported that the thug group had warned Kenyans that the country "will weep two weeks from now."

Arabia
Military reorganization plan to be handed over to Hadi
[Yemen Post] An Emarati newspaper, Al-Khaleej, has revealed that a committee tasked with reconstructing the Yemeni army in collaboration with American experts is to hand over a plan to President Abdurabu Mansour Hadi
...the second and possibly the last president of Yemen, successor to former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh...
before the middle of August.

Well-informed sources told Al-Khaleej that the plan will be implemented under supervision of the international community, affirming that it will put an end to the division of the army and security services.

They further said that the plan will be implemented simultaneously with a package with decrees that will merge the military and security units.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hoedown, Bob finally got to dance with Sally...
Yemeni protesters organized on Thursday evening a march before the residency of Hadi, demanding him to swiftly reorganize the army and dismiss relatives of the former president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
who still run military and security forces.

In a speech delivered on Wednesday to cadets of the War College, Hadi affirmed that the army shake up on the bases of national principals will lead to stability and security of Yemen.

He indicated that the situation in Yemen got better, confirming that some political forces do not know realities in Yemen and singling out that Yemen still faces economic, political and security crises.

Hadi reaffirmed that he will hunt the gunnies anywhere in Yemen, appreciating victories made by the army in Zinjibar, Jaar and other regions of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...

He said that the war against Al-Qaeda does not start so far, emphasizing that the army will dislodge all Yemen of bad boys.

Yemenis Protest at President Residence to Demand Firing Military, Security Chiefs
[Yemen Post] Thousands of Yemeni people held a sit-in before the residence of President Abdrabu Mansour Hadi on Thursday to demand immediate decisions sacking relatives of the former president who hold senior posts in the army and the security systems.

The youth-led sit-inners demanded to fire Ahmed Saleh, the elder son of President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
and commander of the elite republican guard, and Yahya Saleh, a nephew of Saleh who holds the post of chief of staff at the central security forces.

The protesters also demanded immediate restructuring of the army on national bases, coinciding with reports Hadi has already received visions for army and security reforms.

The sit-in came amid a ten-day deadline given to Hadi to fire the relatives of the former president from the army and the security systems which was set by the organizational committee of the popular uprising.

Some of the protesters carried placards showing slangs to fire the remnants of the former regime, allegedly accused of inflaming insecurity and conflicts in Yemeni cities.

During the one-hour sit-in, slogans were changed and speeches were delivered in which protesters said participation in the dialogue before releasing the prisoners locked away
Drop the rosco and step away witcher hands up!
in connection with the uprising is a betray.

In its speech, the organizational committee warned of revolutionary options if the demands are not met.

The youth-led protesters have accepted to participate in the dialogue scheduled to be held in November.

They erupted into the streets to demand the departure of the former regime early last year and have refused to leave their street squares since a power-transfer deal was reached in November.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Five arrested in attacks on Muslim leaders in Tatarstan
Russian officials said they detained five suspects on Friday over attacks that injured the top Islamic official in the Tatarstan region and killed his deputy. The federal Investigative Committee suggested the attacks were provoked by conflicts over faith and money.

Tatarstan's mufti, Ildis Faizov, was hospitalized after three powerful explosions hit his car in Tatarstan's capital, Kazan, on Thursday. A little earlier, deputy mufti Valiulla Yakupov was gunned down outside his home.

"Investigators believe the main motive was the professional activity of the victims, including their ideological differences with opponents," said a statement by the Investigative Committee. Faizov had taken "a tough position toward organisations that preach radical forms of Islam", it added.

"In addition, he took control of the movement of financial resources of the organisation Ideal-Hadzh, which sent Muslims to Mecca, and on this basis a conflict occurred between the mufti and the leader of this organisation, which threatened him."

It said the chairman of Ideal-Hadzh, Rustem Gataullin, was one of the detained suspects, as well as the leader of a mosque, Murat Galleyev, an Uzbek citizen and two other residents of Tatarstan.

Analysts say Faizov, elected as mufti in April 2011, has launched a crackdown on non-traditional clerics, some of whom are natives of the North Caucasus, and local officials believe some clerics are spreading extremism.

Dozens of alleged members of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a group banned in Russia since 2003 but allowed to operate in the United States and most European Union countries, have been arrested in recent years.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea vows to revisit 'nuclear issue' after alleged plot
[LA Times] North Korea said Friday it will "review the nuclear issue" after arresting a North Korean defector for allegedly plotting to destroy statues of the late leader Kim Il Sung at the behest of the United States and South Korea.
Oh, for goodness sake. We want young Pudgy dead -- we don't care about a bunch of poorly executed statues of a guy who already is dead. Just for the record, we don't care about the stupid portraits everywhere throughout the country, either.
Whack Fat Boy and the portraits and statues will take care of themselves...
State media reported Thursday that North Korean defector Jon Yong Chol said South Korean and U.S. intelligence agencies had ordered him to return to the country to blow up statues and monuments, a bid to make it appear that North Korea was suffering internal unrest. Jon appeared on North Korean television Thursday giving an extensive account of how the alleged attacks were planned.

South Korea has denied the allegation as groundless. One government official was quoted in the newspaper Chosun Ilbo dismissing the idea as an "improbable plot."

The North Korean Foreign Ministry added in a statement run on state media Friday that by backing the plot, the U.S. had violated a deal with Pyongyang to pull back on its nuclear program.

This, of course, should surprise no one...but 'pulling down statues' does have a certain Stalinist feel to it. Somewhere, Iosif Vissiaronavitch smiles.

Obama sends CIA officers to find biochem WMD in Syria
American official tells The Daily Beast that US government looking to obtain information from military defectors, intercepted correspondences

The B.O. regime has sent CIA officers to Syria in order to assess the country's weapons program, a US official with access to Syrian intelligence said.

A major task for the CIA at this point, he told The Daily Beast, is to debrief defecting military officers to obtain as much information as possible regarding Syria's weapons of mass destruction.

The official said that it is also up to the intelligence agency to sort through caches of intercepted phone calls, emails and satellite images to find the exact locations of the Assad regime's chemical and biological weapons.

Rep. Mike Rogers, the Republican chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, would not comment on whether or not CIA officers had been sent to the region. However he said that the administration had recently deployed "the resources necessary to collect the information that we need to make a good decision on chemical and biological [weapons], opposition groups and leadership transition strategies."

A CIA front man also declined to comment on any mission to Syria.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Channel 10 on Friday that Israel was watching out for "the possible transfer of advanced weapons systems, mainly anti-aircraft missiles or heavy ground-to-ground missiles, but there could also be a transfer of chemical capabilities from Syria to Leb." Barak said he was worried that such weapons would fall into the hands of Leb-based terror organization Hezbollah.

Roni Daniel, a military analyst on Israel's most-watched news station Channel 2, said Friday that Israel "will have to strike" at Syrian weapons shipments if they are being transferred to Hezbollah in Leb.

Daniel downplayed the possibility that such a strike would lead to a wider conflict between Israel and its neighbors.

#1  It's the correct decision, though it is one that should be reached in open court.

Would we tolerate a debate about whether or not to open a church? A synagogue? A Hindu temple?

Either we're serious about our First Amendment or we're not.

I know, I know, I also make barbed jokes about mosques being convenient weapons depots for terrorists. And if THIS mosque turns out to be a recruiting center for jihadis then it needs to be shut down and the leadership needs to be arrested.

But in the good old US of A, first we get proof.

Open the mosque.

And keep an eye on it.

#5  Either we're serious about our First Amendment or we're not.

Islam is not a religion. It hides behind a mask of religiosity, but that does not give it legitimacy. Christianity, and the Right are going to have to relearn (it seems) that to survive one must kill ones enemies.

Especially when the enemies ideology is as intractable as Islam and Leftism. Even more so when the two have joined forces.
Posted by: Secret Asian Man || 07/21/2012 14:56 Comments || Top||

#6  The remedy for bad speech is more speech, good speech. It is justifiable to tolerate bad speech because there's no monopoly in the free marketplace of ideas.

Unfortunately Islam has managed to seriously damage said marketplace, by threatening violent reprisals.

Western political and military elites are hostile to speech critical of Islam, giving aid to the intimidation campaign.

E.g. the commander of Western forces in Afghanistan, in his official capacity, called for the voluntary adoption of sharia censorship rules by non-muslims residing in the West.

In the absence of a free marketplace of ideas tolerance for the intolerant equates surrender to the intolerant.

Either we're serious about our First Amendment or we're not.

Western political and military elites are indeed seriously opposed to 1st Amendment freedoms.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Islamic Jihad Leadership Abandons Syria For Iran
Circumstances in war-torn country force terrorist organization to relocate, reports London-based Arabic daily

London-based Arab language daily Asharq Al-Awsat reported Saturday that the leadership of Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the liquidation of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
had moved from Damascus
...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world...
to Tehran due to the ongoing fighting in Syria.

Paleostinian sources told the newspaper that the terrorist group's leader, Ramadan Shallah, was working mainly from Iran, and that his deputy had been there for weeks. They stressed that the move did not indicate any break between the organization and the regime of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
An Islamic Jihad representative in the Gazoo Strip denied the report.

Over 17,000 people have been killed in the 16-month long conflict in Syria, which is now being widely described as a civil war. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimated earlier this week that approximately 120,000 Syrian refugees were in neighboring countries, and another 1 million citizens were displaced internally in the war-torn country.

Russia to delay chopper shipment to Syria
MOSCOW - Russia is to delay its controversial shipment of three attack helicopters and an air defence system to Syria until full security control is restored there, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.
Afraid they'll fall into rebel hands?
The military cargo has already been moved into storage after being unloaded from a cargo vessel that tried to make the dispute delivery last month before being exposed by Washington, according to the news agency.

An unnamed Russian military official told the news agency that recent gains by the armed opposition and Wednesday’s deadly attack on President Bashar al-Assad’s inner security circle had forced Moscow to reassess the delivery.

“The decision to delay the Syrian delivery time frame is based on the escalating military and political situation in the country,” the unnamed military source told the news agency.

The source said other considerations included “the act of terror in which several senior Syrian officials were killed and injured as well as the escalation in military activities by the opposition.

“In these conditions, the authorities are not able to guarantee the safe reception of the helicopters,” the source said. There was no official confirmation of the report from the defence ministry.

Russia argues that the Mi-25 choppers already belonged to Syria and were only returned to Russia for upgrades under a 2008 contract signed long before the fighting began.

Signs that Russia was slowly starting to shift its military trade position emerged earlier this month. A top arms export official said Moscow would not supply any of its most advanced systems to Damascus until the situation calmed down. The reports said Russia was now moving the helicopters into storage rather than boarding them immediately onto a plane or another ship in a bid to quickly transport them to Assad’s army.

A source at a Kaliningrad region port near Poland that the cargo vessel visited on Thursday told Interfax that the helicopters were returned to the same repair facility that had earlier upgraded the equipment.

“The equipment will remain in safe storage until other instructions are issued,” the unnamed source told the news agency.

The Alaed cargo vessel on Friday had reportedly approached a port in Russia’s second city of Saint Petersburg after leaving Kaliningrad. Its private owners Femco said earlier the ship is already under contract to make an unidentified delivery to the Pacific coast of Russia’s Far East.

Syrian Muslim Brotherhood to launch political party
[Al Ahram] Syria's Moslem Brüderbund, a key opponent of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
's regime, announced plans Friday to launch an Islamist political party, saying it was ready for the post-Assad era.

"The decision has been taken to create an Islamic party," the head of the Brotherhood's political wing, Ali Beyanouni, told journalists after the group completed a four-day conference in Istanbul.

The new party would be "open to all Syrians" and will promote a "democratic and pluralist" vision of the state based on the equality of all citizens, Beyanouni said.

"We are ready for the post-Assad era, we have plans for the economy, the courts, politics," said Mulhem al-Droubi, the Brotherhood's front man.

Syrian Revolutionaries Say Yemeni Shiites Are Fighting Them in Support of Assad
[Yemen Post] The Syrian Free Army has accused the Yemeni Shiite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America™", Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
Group of sending its members to fight them in support of the Syrian regime.

The front man of the Syrian National Coalition, Wael Hafiz, said the Houthi Group was among other foreign groups which have sent their fighters to kill the Syrian people.

He urged through media the Houthi and Hezbollah fighters to leave Syria.

The call which was made after the bombing which killed Syrian defense and interior ministers as well as other top security and army officials amid the escalating popular uprising faced with deadly crackdown by the Assad regime.

"The Syrian Free Army will defeat the Shabiha of the Assad regime including large numbers of Shiites brought from Iraq, Leb and Yemen," he said.

The group has declined to comment.

The Yemeni army fought the Houthi Group in Saada province six times, the latest in 2009, on the grounds this group is receiving Iranian support and training within the regional Shiite ambitions.

When the popular uprising erupted in early 2011 against the former regime in Sanaa, it joined the mass protests and pitched tents inside change and freedom squares to demand a civil state rule.

It has since tried to emerge as a political force and has been trying to improve its image as a religious gang.

Qabbani Slams Politicians' Inaction, Demands Opening of Lebanon's Borders to Syrian Refugees
[An Nahar] Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani revealed on Friday that Lebanese gunnies have deployed along the Lebanese-Syrian border to prevent refugees "fleeing their country's massacres" from entering Leb.

He therefore demanded during the Friday Moslem prayers from the president, speaker, and prime minister that the border between the two countries be opened to the refugees.

He added that he contacted a Lebanese official to inquire about the refugees, saying that the official informed him that only refugees arriving at the border in cars are allowed in Leb, while the rest "are poor" and therefore not granted entry.

Qabbani slammed the policy, demanding the opening of the border to all Syrians in need.

"Didn't Syrians harbor Lebanese refugees during the days of war with Israel?" he asked officials.

"Why are you adopting such a policy? Is it for political purposes?" he wondered.

"The Lebanese people will be the first victims should the state of politics in Leb remain as it is now," warned the grand mufti.

"Why didn't officials head to the Masnaa border crossing and convince the security forces to allow the refugees to enter Leb?" asked Qabbani.
