Afghanistan
Afghanistan polls have no legitimacy: Fazl
[DAWN] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
said on Sunday that parliamentary elections in Afghanistan did not carry any legitimacy in the presence of foreign forces.

Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday, he said elections in the war-torn country were meaningless and would not put any positive impact on the country’s future.

He argued that Afghanistan was an occupied territory where America and other countries had stationed their troops.

"As the right of self-determination has no substitution in the Indian held Kashmire, same is the case of Afghanistan," he replied when asked about the parliamentary polls in the neighbouring country.

He was of the view that a puppet government had been installed in Kabul which did not enjoy support of the Afghan nation.

He said negotiations were the only way to end four-decade-long war in Afghanistan.

Mr Rehman said Pakistain had been handed over to "incapable" people by rigging the July 25 general elections.

He said he did not accept the results of the general elections as these were ’engineered and rigged’. He predicted that international lending institutions, including IMF, won’t extend bailout package to Pakistain.

[Al Ahram] White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump

's son in law, said on Monday the United States is still in a "fact-finding" phase on the murder of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Saudi crown prince meets US's Mnuchin, Saudi state TV says
[Al Ahram] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
as of 2016....

met US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in Riyadh on Monday, Saudi state TV said in a tweet.

Mnuchin said on Sunday Saudi Arabia's explanation of the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was a "good first step but not enough", adding that it was premature to discuss sanctions against Riyadh over the incident.

The Saudi crown prince and Mnuchin "stressed the importance of strategic partnership and the future role of this partnership through Vision 2030", the Saudi TV tweet said, referring to the kingdom's long term development plan.

The US official said on Sunday he would not attend a major investment conference to be hosted in Riyadh this week, and that his visit was to hold talks on joint efforts toward countering terrorist financing and curbing Iran’s military and political influence.

The Grand Turk
Khashoggi case has put Saudi prince right where Erdoğan wants him
[TheGuardian] Turkish president on losing end of regional power struggle with Bin Salman now finds himself in the ascendant.

At about noon on Tuesday two regional leaders are due to make landmark addresses. In Riyadh, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, will open an investment showpiece declaring the kingdom open for business. In Ankara, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is expected to make a speech that may well shut down the beleaguered kingdom.

Such are the stakes when Erdoğan takes to a podium to discuss the death of the Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi that the region may not be the same when he’s finished.

#1  I wonder if this case is politically similar to the shooting of West Berlin protester Benno Ohnesorg in 1967.

Could a Turkish/Qatari/Muslim Brotherhood/Iranian agent within the Saudi security infrastructure be responsible for the deadly escalation of Kashoggi's visit to the consulate?

The 1967 shooting by a West Berlin police officer who was also a communist and Stasi agent subsequently destabilized West Germany for decades and thus was a huge strategic success for East Germany.

If Erdogan is in possession of detailed information about the murder this would point to a successful Turkish infiltration of relevant Saudi government structures.

Conversely, if the Saudi government had intended to murder Kashoggi they could easily have done so preserving plausible deniability.

This doesn't add up.

Perhaps Erdogan is trying to replicate East Germany's success.

#2  An assassination could have been carried out by two men on a Chinese Honda with a silenced .22 pistol.

My guess is that it was a 'prisoner snatch' operation gone bad. If Khashoggi was an unwilling participant, resisted, and had to be sedated, anything could have happened. A team of seventeen men is not needed for a snatch or kidnapping. A clean-up or burial detail perhaps.

#5  I hope the naked truth comes out. The DS cabal/Western Intel, according to George Webb, paid for a Saudi coup, wiring the money to 17 Saudi Royal Guard operatives who Khashoggi was meeting in Turkey. That transaction can be traced, leading back to Soros, Clinton, Obama, Brennan, & Clapper. Apparently they got the admission on tape before the murder.

#3  Or a thinly disguised message from MbS that the DS coup against him failed. Note the Turkish source to CNN. If an 8 Chan post is accurate, the tape of the gruesome murder also contains a confession that Khashoggi was the $$$ intermediary, with a trail back to Soros, Brennan, Clapper, Clinton, & Obama. They will be counting their digits instead of sheep as they try to sleep.

Administrative control of Swat handed over to civil govt after 11 years
[DAWN] Pakistain Army on Monday formally handed over administrative control of Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
to the civil government after restoring peace and the government’s writ in the militancy-hit Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region.

In 2007, after the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain had taken over Swat, armed forced were called in to prise the valley out of their possession ‐ a process that more than a decade later is now officially deemed complete.

"After almost eleven years we have made history with the handing-over of administrative powers to the civil administration," KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said at a gathering also attended by Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. The chief minister regretted that turbans had destroyed the beautiful district by bombing schools, educational institutions, imposing various bans on women and killing innocent people.

He further said that the army, with the support of police, local administration and the people, has succeeded in uprooting militancy from Swat and restored peace.

Treason allegations against me are 'unimaginable', Nawaz tells LHC
[DAWN] Former PM Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
, in his response to a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking treason charges against him, has termed the allegations levelled against him as "unimaginable" and questioned how his "patriotism" could be doubted in the light of his services to the country.

Sharif has been accused of treason for allegedly trying to defame state institutions through an interview to Dawn journalist Cyril Almeida, while the same accusation has been leveled against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for allegedly not honouring his oath of office by disclosing the minutes of a National Security Council (NSC) meeting to Nawaz.

As a three-judge bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi resumed hearing the case today, Sharif, Abbasi and Almeida's lawyers furnished their clients' formal responses to the allegations made against them.

"A grave allegation such as treason is unimaginable [for me]," Nawaz stated in his response.

"This raises many questions in my mind. Are the millions of Pak people who made me the PM traitors too? Have the country's institutions and agencies failed that they did not know of my treason. Is someone who rids the country of terrorism a traitor?" he asked in the written statement.

Imran Khan leaves for Saudi conference saying Pakistan "desperate" for loans
[Al Ahram] Pakistain Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
left for Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to attend an investment conference boycotted by other leaders over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
Khan told an interviewer before leaving he was concerned at Khashoggi's death but could not skip the conference because "we're desperate" for possible Saudi loans to shore up Pakistain's economy.

It is Khan's second visit to Saudi Arabia in just over a month, but he has not succeeded in securing significant financial assistance to stave off a looming balance of payment crisis.

Khan told the Middle East Eye in an interview published on Monday that he could not pass up the invitation to meet Saudi leaders again.

"The reason I feel I have to avail myself of this opportunity is because in a country of 210 million people right now we have the worst debt crisis in our history," he was quoted as saying.

"Unless we get loans from friendly countries or the IMF (International Monetary Fund), we actually won't have in another two or three months enough foreign exchange to service our debts or to pay for our imports. So we're desperate at the moment."

Finance Minister Asad Umar and Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood are accompanying Khan, a statement from Khan's office said on Monday, adding it "will give a chance to connect with those people who are interested in investing in Pakistain".

Islamabad has already asked the IMF to open negotiations for the country's second potential bailout in five years.

Khan, who took office in July, still has been seeking alternatives to the tough conditions the IMF is likely to impose for loans, limiting his vision of an Islamic welfare state.

The central bank's foreign reserves dropped this month to $8.1 billion, a four-year low and barely enough to cover sovereign debt payments due through the end of the year. The current account deficit has swelled to about $18 billion.

Iraq
Barzani Makes Comeback on Both Kurd, Iraq Fronts
[An Nahar] A year after a disastrous independence vote he had championed in Iraqi Kurdistan, veteran leader Massud Barzani has made a strong comeback both on the home front and in Baghdad.

While Iraq's presidency, a ceremonial post, has gone to Barham Saleh of the rival Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) was on Sunday declared the clear winner of the September 30 parliamentary elections in the autonomous region of northern Iraq.

In the political manoeuvring for ministerial posts in Baghdad, meanwhile, the KDP can also even boast it is the largest single party in Iraq. The party garnered 25 seats in Iraq's legislative elections in May, contested mainly against party lists.

With 45 seats won in the 111-member Iraqi Kurdish parliament, Barzani's party can form a majority without the PUK.

It can, in theory, rely solely on the 11-seat allocation reserved for the region's minority Turkmen, Christian and Armenian communities.

"Now that he is the great heavyweight of Kurdish politics, no-one can do without him in Baghdad," said Adel Bakawan, a research associate at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Gay Paree (EHESS).

He predicted Barzani would seek the deputy premier, foreign and finance minister posts for the KDP in the federal government that is to be formed by November.

"He lost the gamble of the referendum, but the legislative (polls) in May were a tremendous moment of grace; he was courted by the Americans and the Iranians," the two key powerbrokers in Iraq, he said.

Israel releases PA official on condition he remain under house arrest for week
[IsraelTimes] Israeli authorities released Paleostinian Authority Jerusalem Governor Adnan Ghaith from prison Monday, two days after he was tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on suspicions he helped abduct a Paleostinian resident of the capital.

Ghaith was released from a holding facility in the city on the condition that he remain under house arrest for the coming week and that he pay NIS 20,000 bail, the Paleostinian official’s lawyer said.

Mickey Rosenfeld, an Israel Police front man said Ghaith was allowed to leave, but did not confirm the conditions of his release.

Ghaith and Jihad Faqih, the Jerusalem director of the PA General Intelligence Services, were collared on suspicion they helped abduct a Paleostinian-American resident of Jerusalem two weeks ago, who has since remained in the PA’s custody in the West Bank, their lawyers told Rooters on Monday.

Both Ghaith and Faqih deny the charges, their lawyers said.

Faqih was also arrested on Saturday and released on Monday. Rosenfeld did not respond when asked about the conditions under which Faqih was released.

The Paleostinian-American resident of Jerusalem was being sought by the PA over his involvement in the sale of a home in the Moslem Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City to Jews, Hadashot TV news reported on Monday.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
New battle map of Syrian War: October 2018
Map that would have been improved by a different choice of colours can be seen at the link.
[AlMasdar] The Syrian War is now in its seventh year and while most of the country is back under the government’s control, several areas still remain under the authority of the opposition, Kurdish, and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) forces.

Over the last two months, the ground situation in Syria has remained relatively the same, with only some minor changes inside the Islamic State’s pockets in the al-Sweida and Deir Ezzor provinces.

The lack of ground movement in Syria is due in large part to the September 17th Sochi Agreement between the Russian and Ottoman Turkish governments.

This agreement ultimately froze the front-lines between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and opposition forces in the Aleppo, Hama, Idlib, and Latakia governorates.

Moreover, the government’s recapture of the al-Quneitra, Dara’a, Qalamoun and East Ghouta regions this past Summer has ended several battles and allowed peace to reign over these areas for the first time since the genesis of this conflict.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
this Pax Syriana is not likely to last for much longer, as the situation inside the designated buffer zone collapses due the refusal of jihadist groups to leave this area.

Making matters worse, Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
has repeatedly warned of a pending invasion by his forces in northern Syria.

The Ottoman Turkish Army and their rebel allies are expected to launch a new operation against the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the coming months, as Ankara looks to seal the Syrian border with groups allied to them.
