Cameroon Bishop takes swipe at Biya’s re-election
[JOURNALDUCAMEROUN] The Archbishop of the Douala Metropolitan Archdiocese Samuel Kleda has taken a swipe at the re-election of Paul Biya for another seven-year mandate.

Paul Biya, 85, was declared winner of the October 7 Presidential election by the Constitutional Council on Monday with 71.28 percent of the votes far ahead of Maurice Kamto in second position with 14.23 percent.

Reacting to the reults, the Archbishop of Douala who also doubles as the President of the National Episcopal Conference however casts shadows of doubts over the results.

The Archbishop told a presser in Douala on Tuesday said it was impossible for Biya to overwhelmingly win in the Far North region where the population has been suffering as a result of Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
a.

"I am not sure up to 89% of the people(in the Far North region)who have been going through alot of sufferings will go out to vote for the same person who has been in place doing nothing to ameliorate their conditions," His Lordship Samuel Kleda said.

Paul Biya equally got the lion’s share in the troubled North West and South West regions of Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
causing the Archbishop to ask where the voters came from given that a majority of the population has been displaced as a result of the conflict.

The drama at the Constitutional Council last week was equally on the menu for the Samuel Kleda who regretted the fact that all petitions filed in by the opposition caandidates were thrown out.

He argued that the opposition candidates had a strong case in their petitions especially the SDF’s ability to demonstrate irregularities in the North West and South West regions where few people voted.

Election results are known even before voters go to the polls in most Central African nations and Cameroon is not an exception, he regretted.

Houthis step up security fearing coup ministers will flee Sanaa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
coup militias tightened their security and monitoring measures against officials and ministers in the coup government in Sanaa, fearing they might break away and flee to areas under the control of the Yemeni legitimate government.

The pro-Iranian militias staged a wide campaign of arrests involving officers of the former Elite Republican Guard.

According to security sources, a number of its senior political officials, among them Yahya al-Raii, the speaker of the lower house of parliament, who has been assigned a security team and a driver of the Houthis, are under house arrest.

The Houthi militias’ measures are nothing new, as ministers in their coup government suffer from marginalization, mistreatment and strict control, after the Minister of Tourism Nasser Baqzquz submitted his resignation and his request to allow him to leave Sana’a as a result of threats from the Director of the Office of the President of the so-called Supreme Political Council of the coup militias.

The deputy minister of education in the coup-government of the Houthi pro-Iranian militias, Dr. Abdullah al-Hamdi, said that he broke with the militias, calling to rise up against these rejected militias from 90% of the Yemeni people who are suffering from hunger, death and poverty due to the militias.

MBS Says Khashoggi Murder 'Repulsive Incident', Talks to Erdogan
[An Nahar] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's crown prince Wednesday denounced the murder of critic Jamal Khashoggi as a "repulsive incident," insisting the kingdom was cooperating with Ottoman Turkish authorities and that "justice will prevail."

"The incident was very painful for all Saudis, it's a repulsive incident and no one can justify it," Prince Mohammed bin Salman
...Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia as of 2016....
said in his first comments since the murder of the journalist.

"Those responsible will be held accountable... in the end justice will prevail," the prince said, speaking in Arabic during an address to the Future Investment Initiative Forum in Riyadh.

"Many are trying to exploit the Khashoggi affair to drive a wedge between Saudi Arabia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
," he said.

"But they will not succeed as long as there is a king named Salman and a crown prince named Mohammed bin Salman," MBS stressed.

Earlier in the day, a Ottoman Turkish presidential source said MBS and Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
discussed steps to "shed light" on Khashoggi's murder, in their first telephone conversation since the killing.

Erdogan has far spoken twice on the phone with Saudi King Salman

Caribbean-Latin America
US arrested 16,658 migrant family members at border in September
[Al Jazeera] US border agents tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
nearly 17,000 members of family units attempting to cross the US border with Mexico in September, a 31 percent increase over the previous month, according to official statistics released on Tuesday.

In a news briefing with news hounds on Tuesday, Trump administration officials pointed to the increase in migrant families as evidence of a "border crisis" because those groups are more difficult for immigration enforcement officials to detain and deport because of protections granted by US law to migrant children. Rights groups, however, dispute Trump's claim, saying that while there was an increase in apprehensions in 2018, overall, irregular immigration has been at a historic low over the last few years.

The Trump administration expressed alarm at the change in the makeup of migrants colonists attempting to cross into the United States from mostly single adults to children and families travelling together.

About 40 percent of those apprehended in the fiscal years 2017 and 2018 were unaccompanied children or families with children, compared with 10 percent in 2012, according to the Migration Policy Institute, a non-partisan think-tank.

#2  If apprehended, are they collecting DNA samples for the database, adding tracking devices (just supply with Obummer phones), and enforcing E-Verify for employment? It is very difficult to make it without ID in the US if they do enter but remove the entire family. Biometric ID's make false documents very difficult to make. Tax remittances to pay for technology. And the US has the sovereign right to defend ourselves from an invasion. Plasma gun technology, Ultra-Short Pulse Laser, for crowd control exists, non-lethal in small doses but very lethal if they fail to heed warnings. All options should be on the table.

Weary Central American migrants still far from reaching US border
[DAWN] Thousands of Central American migrants colonists awoke on Tuesday in a makeshift encampment in a rain-soaked town square in far-southern Mexico, some weary, foot-sore and coughing, still distant from their goal of reaching the US border.

The caravan, estimated to include more than 7,000 people, had advanced about 75kms since crossing the border from Guatemala, and still faced more than 1,000 miles, and likely much further, to the end of the journey.

But as the sun rose, a chorus of coughs arose from the shapeless forms wrapped in blankets and bits of plastic sheeting.

Burned by the relentless heat and the night’s chill, eating badly and sleeping rough, many appeared to be developing respiratory symptoms.

Forty-eight-year-old Edwin Enrique Jimenez Flores of Tela, Honduras had one of those persistent coughs, but still vowed to reach the US to seek work.

"I feel strong. My feet are good," he said.

But Marlon Anibal Castellanos, a 27-year-old former bus driver from San Pedro Sula was finding the journey difficult as he prepared to rest Monday night. He was travelling with his wife as well as his nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son.

"It’s difficult to travel with children," he said. "Today we walked six hours" before finally paying 25 pesos about $1.30 from their thin savings to a passing van driver who took then the rest of the way to Huixtla.

"It’s dangerous. There are no ambulances and if the children pass out, they could die because there is no [medical] help."

Europe
France seeks to bring home jihadists' kids from Syria
[PULSE.NG] La Belle France is seeking to repatriate some of the 150 children of French jihadists identified as being in Syria, as Western nations grapple with how to handle citizens who left to join Death Eaters.

A French official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said Gay Paree would repatriate the children "as much as is possible, on the condition that the mother agrees".

"We're starting to look at how this might work," the source added.

French authorities only have a precise location for some of the children, making these the only viable cases for potential repatriation, the source said, declining to give figures.

The cases of the 150 youngsters, some of whom are being held in camps in Kurdish-held northern Syria after the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group was driven from the area, were flagged up by authorities there or by their families in La Belle France.

Most are under six years old and were born in Syria.

The mothers of any repatriated children would be left in Syria, the source said.

Like other Western nations reluctant to bring jihadists back onto their soil, La Belle France has so far ruled out repatriating men who left to fight alongside IS, or women who left to marry them.

"Those who committed crimes in Iraq and Syria must be brought to justice in Iraq and Syria," the foreign ministry said.

"Minors are the exception, and their situation will be examined on a case by case basis. We have a duty to protect children's interests."

Yet bringing the children to La Belle France will be highly complicated, not least because Kurdish-held Syria is not a recognised state, and Gay Paree has cut off diplomatic ties with Damascus.

CIA chief heard recording of Khashoggi killing during Turkey visit: two sources
ISTANBUL (Reuters) - CIA director Gina Haspel heard an audio recording of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi during her visit to Turkey this week, two sources told Reuters on Thursday, the first indication Ankara has shared its key evidence.

The killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and a critic of Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has sparked global condemnation and mushroomed into a major crisis for the world's top oil exporter.

Saudi Arabia first denied any role in Khashoggi's disappearance before blaming his Oct. 2 death at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on a botched attempt to return him to the kingdom.

On Thursday, Saudi state Ekhbariya TV quoted the Saudi public prosecutor as saying Khashoggi's murder was premeditated, and that prosecutors were interrogating suspects on the basis of information provided by a joint Saudi-Turkish task force.

Turkey has dismissed Saudi efforts to blame rogue operatives and urged the kingdom to search from "top to bottom" for those responsible for the killing of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of the Saudi leadership.

Report: Saudis Deny Permission to Search Consulate Well
[An Nahar] Saudi authorities denied permission to Ottoman Turkish police to search a well in the garden of the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul as part of a probe into the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, state media reported Wednesday.

Ottoman Turkish police this month searched the consulate twice, and the residence of the Saudi consul general, to gather evidence into what President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

said was a "savage murder" of Khashoggi.

The Washington Post contributor and Riyadh critic was killed inside the Saudi consulate on October 2, which he had visited to obtain documents for his marriage to a Ottoman Turkish woman.

Basing its report on the security sources, the Anadolu news agency reported that Ottoman Turkish police "were denied authorization by Saudi officials to search the well in the consulate garden."

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
is conducting its own investigation into the killing but it remains unclear where the body of Khashoggi is.

US renews call on Pakistan to cut off extremists
[DAWN] United States (US) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday renewed calls on Pakistain to curb turbans fighting in Afghanistan, saying Washington was holding its uneasy war partner accountable.

Pompeo made the comment as he welcomed long-delayed legislative elections in Afghanistan, saying the US was "encouraged" by voter turnout, despite reports of widespread problems including poll centres that failed to open or lacked voter rolls.

"Our expectation is that Pakistain will not provide safe harbour to forces of Evil on their western border," Pompeo told news hounds when asked about Islamabad's role.

"We couldn't have made that message any more clear," he said, adding: "Pakistain will be held to account if they don't achieve that, if they're not sincere in that effort."

"Everyone wants a reconciliation in Afghanistan and to achieve that, you can't have a safe harbour for Taliban

Pakistan rejects Afghanistan's 'baseless' allegations on Kandahar attack
[DAWN] Pakistain on Wednesday rejected Kabul's "baseless" and "unfounded allegations" regarding a recent attack in Kandahar, in which three top Afghan officials were killed when their own guards opened fire on them.

The FO's comments come a day after Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
alleged that the attack on slain Kandahar police commander Gen Abdul Raziq was planned in Pakistain, Tolo News reported.

"I want to say that this conspiracy was plotted in Pakistain. So Pakistain should give us the criminals so that we can bring them to justice," Ghani claimed.

A Foreign Office (FO) statement, without referring to specific statements, said: "Pakistain rejects baseless and unfounded allegations regarding the latest Kandahar attacks. No hard evidence or intelligence-related information has been shared to date with Pakistain to substantiate such claims."

The FO pointed out that "it would have been more appropriate to invoke the relevant arrangement" under the Afghanistan-Pakistain Action Plan for Peace and Stability "to mutually and effectively address and investigate any such unfortunate incidents... instead of resorting to media blame game which is contrary to the seven principles of cooperation agreed between the two sides earlier this year."

Adel Abdel Mahdi sworn in as Iraqi prime minister
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Adel Abdel Mahdi has been sworn in as Iraq’s prime minister as politicians approved a partial list of his proposed cabinet of ministers and program on Wednesday.

The cabinet list also includes former interim oil minister Thamer Ghadhban as oil minister.

Veteran Kurdish politician Fuad Hussein was appointed finance minister, according to politicians. Parliament will vote on the remaining eight ministers at a later date.

Key portfolios such as defence and interior affairs remain unassigned, an official said.

A total of 220 politicians out of 329 elected in May to a deeply divided parliamant, approved Mahdi's 14 picks, including for the ministries of foreign affairs, finances, and petroleum.

Iran's Rouhani: Khashoggi murder unthinkable 'without US backing'
And yet someone somehow thunk it.
[PULSE.NG] Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's "heinous murder" would have been unthinkable "without US backing," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday.

"I don't think that any country would dare do such a thing without US backing," Rouhani said in remarks to cabinet broadcast on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
Rouhani said that before Khashoggi's murder "it would have been unthinkable that in this day and age we would witness such an organised felony.

"It is extremely significant that an institution planned such a heinous murder.

"The tribal group that is ruling that nation (Soddy Arabia

) has a security margin. That security margin is that it relies on US backing. It is this superpower that is backing them."

Khashoggi, a government critic who was living in self-imposed exile in the United States, was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 as he organised the paperwork for his marriage to his Ottoman Turkish fiancee.

The case has triggered an international outcry against Saudi Arabia. US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
on Tuesday ridiculed Riyadh's response as "one of the worst cover-ups" in history.

Iran had been silent about the Khashoggi case until Monday when its judiciary chief slammed Saudi Arabia over his death.

"This heinous murder further revealed the nature of Saudis, their kingdom and that young man who is seeking fame and murdering innocent people," Sadegh Amoli Larijani was quoted as saying by the judiciary's news agency Mizan Online, apparently referring to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

4 Iran environmentalists could face death penalty
[PULSE.NG] Four detained Iranian environmental activists could face the death penalty
after the charges levelled against them were changed, the Tehran prosecutor said on Wednesday.

"After completion of the investigation, the charges against four of the defendants have been changed to corruption on earth," said Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi, cited by Mizan Online, a news outlet run by the judiciary.

"Corruption on earth" is one of the most serious charges in Iran and can be punishable by death.

The defendants were initially locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on suspicion of espionage, but Mizan Online did not specify the charges that had preceded Wednesday's alteration.

Indictments for eight environmental activists have been issued in total and "are ready to be sent to court," the agency quoted the prosecutor as saying.

"The defendants had been notified of the charges," he added.

The prosecutor did not specify the charges against the other four activists, nor did he say when the trial would be held.

The authorities have not released the names of the defendants, who were arrested in January.

Iran has arrested at least a dozen environmental activists this year on charges of spying for foreign intelligence agencies.

One of them, Kavous Seyed Emami, a 63-year-old professor and renowned environmentalist, allegedly did away with himself in prison in February, a fortnight after his arrest.

Military authorities told the judiciary that the defendants had tried to "get close to military centres and get military information about these centres, under the cover of environmental activities," the prosecutor said.
