Afghanistan
Taliban bars Afghan women from gyms, public baths as well as parks and fairs
[IsraelTimes] Female Afghans denounce move as part of ’anti-women ideology’ being reimposed by the hardline Islamists: ’Afghanistan today has turned into a dungeon for women’

Gyms and public baths are now also off limits to Afghan women, the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
confirmed Sunday, days after banning them from parks and fairs.

Women are increasingly being squeezed out of public life since the Taliban’s return last year despite the hardline Islamists promising a softer version of the harsh rule that characterized their first stint in power that ended in 2001.

Most female government workers have lost their jobs — or are being paid a pittance to stay at home — while women are also barred from traveling without a male relative, and must cover up with a burqa or hijab when out of the home.

Schools for teenage girls have also been shuttered across most of the country since the Taliban’s August 2021 return.

"Gyms are closed for women because their trainers were male and some of them were combined gyms," Mohammad Akif Sadeq Mohajir, front man for the Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and Promotion of Virtue, told AFP.

He said "hammams" — traditional public bathing houses that have always been segregated by sex — were now also off limits.

"Currently, every house has a bathroom in it, so it won’t be any issue for the women," he said.

Sana, 23, a university student, gave a different explanation.

"The main reason for closing the doors of parks, gyms and hammams lies in the anti-women ideology of the Taliban," she told AFP.

"Afghanistan today has turned into a dungeon for women. They want to send women to a black hole.

"Today, with the closure of these facilities, women are completely imprisoned in a home’s four walls."

One video clip circulating on social media — which could not immediately be verified — showed a group of women, backs to the camera, lamenting the gym ban.

"It’s a women-only gym — the teachers and trainers are all women," a voice says, breaking with emotion.

"You can’t just ban us from everything. Do we not have the right to anything at all?"

Activists have said the increasing restrictions on women are an attempt to stop them from gathering to organize opposition to the Taliban’s rule.

Small groups of women have staged frequent flash protests in Kabul and other major cities, risking the wrath of Taliban officials who have beaten and detained them.

The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
this month voiced concern after the Taliban disrupted a presser in the capital, submitting female participants to body searches and detaining the event organizer and several others.

"I have been to parks and hammams many times, it always gave me joy," said 19-year-old Fatima.

"I never thought my presence in hammams or gyms could be an issue for anyone."

Afghanistan, the Taliban and the Pursuit of Muscle
Local colour, human interest.
[MensHealth] After the Taliban was toppled in 2001, the sport of bodybuilding exploded in Afghanistan. Today, the Taliban has control once again, but while the country’s new rulers disapprove of bodybuilding, gyms are packed. MH has been on the ground in a country that is at best stagnating to find out why gym life has become so important.

The Criminal Court of Appeal in Riyadh, which specializes in terrorism crimes, sentenced al-Qahtani to prison on charges of "seeking to destabilize the social fabric and national cohesion via the Internet," as the Saudi authorities claimed.

Turkey Deports Over 100,000 Refugees in 2022
[KhaamaPress] Since January of this year, according to Ottoman Turkish media, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
has deported over 101,574 refugees, including more than 57,000 Afghan refugees. The situation for refugees and asylum seekers in Turkey is becoming increasingly precarious.

According to a report from Anadolu News Agency, the Ottoman Turkish Ministry of Interior published a report on Saturday, November 12, stating that the number of refugees deported has climbed by 152% since last year.

According to a new report by Human Rights Watch, hundreds of Syrian refugees, many of whom had protected status, were forced to sign voluntary return documents and sent back to Syria between February and August of this year.

These records state that since January 2022, a total of 57,174 Afghan refugees have been repatriated. This comes as a large wave of Afghan migrants colonists left the country after the Taliban

Northern Command chief: Slew of security flaws led to mass theft of ammunition
[IsraelTimes] Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin investigates burglary of 73,000 bullets, 72 grenades from Tznobar Base in Golan Heights; says he found problems with security infrastructure, other issues.

The head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Northern Command said Sunday that a myriad of security failings led to the theft of over 70,000 rounds of ammunition from an army base in the Golan Heights a day earlier.

Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin conducted an investigation with officials at Tznobar Base near the town of Katzrin following Saturday’s burglary, which saw the theft of 73,000 5.56-millimeter bullets — used by the IDF’s most commonly deployed assault rifles — along with 72 grenades designed to be launched from an M-203 grenade launcher.

In a statement published by the IDF, Gordin noted that there were several problems with the base’s security infrastructure and that munitions were not being stored "adequately."

The IDF said a plan to address issues with base security was set to be implemented only in the coming year.

But Gordin still praised cooperation between the IDF and other security forces following the burglary.

The Shin Bet security agency has been involved in the investigation, and several suspects from the Arab town of Tuba-Zangariyye have been detained by police.

According to IDF’s initial probe, police notified the military of a gang of thieves from Tuba-Zangariyye operating in the area on Friday night. It was not clear whether the burglary had already occurred by the time the base was made aware of the thieves in the area.

The IDF was also probing whether any soldiers from the base assisted in the burglary.

Gordin appointed a colonel to head a "panel of experts" that would investigate the matter.

The findings of the investigation are to be presented to Gordin within a month, the IDF said.

For years, the military has struggled with thefts from its bases, both by soldiers — who have stolen everything from bullets and missiles to army jeeps — and by criminal gangs.

Saturday’s burglary came less than a month after some 30,000 bullets were stolen from a base in southern Israel.

In response to that theft, a military spokesperson said the IDF was working to reduce thefts from bases by improving infrastructure and security.

Security officials fear that stolen ammunition could be used in terror attacks. In March, almost a thousand stolen IDF bullets were found on Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-inspired button men who killed two border coppers in a terror attack in Hadera.

Thousands of stolen army bullets have also been seized at checkpoints heading from Israel into the West Bank in recent months.

Iran sends German-Iranian activist on medical leave back to prison
[IsraelTimes] Daughter of Nahid Taghavi says her mother didn’t complete her treatment, but that she is returning to Evin Prison ’with her head held high’

A German-Iranian woman held for rights activism in Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
was sent back to prison, after being granted medical leave four months ago, her daughter said on Sunday.

"Despite not completing medical treatment but with her head held high, my mother Nahid Taghavi was forced to go back to Evin Prison on Sunday 13th November," Mariam Claren wrote on Twitter.

Taghavi was arrested in October 2020, after fighting for human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
in Iran for years, especially women’s rights and freedom of expression, according to the rights group IGFM.

Taghavi spent seven months in solitary confinement and was interrogated by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards for more than 1,000 hours without legal assistance, her daughter said.

She was handed a decade-long sentence last year for participating in an outlawed group, a verdict Germany described as "incomprehensible."

According to Claren, Taghavi was granted "an urgently needed medical furlough" on July 19 for back and neck problems.

She also reportedly suffers from pre-existing conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes.

Protests have erupted across Iran since September, in response to the death of a young Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, after her arrest by the country’s notorious morality police.

Iran leader sends delegation to restive region rocked by deadly unrest
[IsraelTimes] Representatives of Khamenei express sadness after dozens killed in violence, vow ’to resolve problems’ in Sistan-Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province

A delegation from Iran’s Lord High Potentate and Supreme Leader of All He Surveys Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
expressed sadness and promised solutions in a visit to a southeastern province where dozens have been killed in unrest, official media said.

The violence in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Balochistan province which borders Pakistain, erupted on September 30, and authorities say six members of the security forces were among the dead.

The casualties came against the backdrop of nationwide unrest that followed the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, 22, after her arrest by morality police in Tehran for allegedly violating Iran’s strict dress code for women.

Some local figures said the protests in Zahedan were triggered by anger over the reported rape of a teenage girl by a police officer.

Overseas-based activist muppets accused security forces of firing on demonstrators.

Zahedan is one of the few Sunni-majority cities in predominantly Shiite Iran.

"We came to share the sadness felt by the supreme leader concerning the incidents which happened" in the province, said Mohammad-Javad Haj Ali Akbari, front man for the delegation which arrived Saturday.

He said they were also there to "report on measures decided [by Khamenei] to resolve these problems," the state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying on Sunday.

Akbari also referred to a "special plan" from Khamenei to benefit the province’s people, but IRNA gave no further details on such measures.

He also met the imam of Zahedan’s Makki mosque, Iran’s largest Sunni house of worship, and said he wanted to see relatives of those killed or maimed in the incidents "to console them."

In late October the Sistan-Balochistan security council said it had concluded an investigation that found "negligence" by officers and the deaths of "innocent" civilians during the unrest.

The council announced the dismissal of Zahedan’s police chief as well as the head of a cop shoppe.

Poverty-stricken Sistan-Balochistan had previously seen festivities with drug smuggling gangs as well as rebels from the Baluchi minority and Sunni Moslem bad boy groups.
