Djibouti to boost Somalia peacekeepers
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 6, 2015(Garowe Online)-Djiboutian government has signed a new deal to boost the number of peacekeepers in Somalia with additional 900 troops, Garowe Online reports.

The Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, Smail Chergui and Djiboutian Ambassador to Ethiopia Dileita M. Dileaita struck the agreement to increase the current peacekeeping force from 960 to 1860 as the neighboring East African country is trying to stave off Al Shabaab’s guerrilla warfare.

Having joined African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Djiboutian forces maintain presence in the central Somalia region of Hiran.

In early January, Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Ali Yusuf declared the deployment of close to 1000 peacekeepers to be drawn from military and police. However, under the new Memorandum of Understanding, the neighboring country will only contribute military personnel to the African Union Mission.

Egyptian court cancels Hamas listing as terrorist organization: sources
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] An Egyptian appeals court on Saturday canceled a ruling to list the Paleostinian group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, as a terrorist organization, judicial sources said, signaling a possible easing of pressure on the Gazoo Strip's ruling faction.

Hamas welcomed the decision by Egypt, which faces an islamist insurgency it says is fueled by weapons smuggled from Gazoo. Hamas said the ruling would help relations with Cairo.

Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt's Moslem Brüderbund which the authorities have declared a terrorist group and have repressed since the army ousted one of its leaders, Mohammed Mursi, from the presidency in 2013.

Cairo has for many years played a central role in engineering ceasefires between neighboring Israel and Hamas, which dominates Gazoo, including a truce reached between the sides in August that ended a 50-day war.

Egyptian officials say weapons are smuggled from Gazoo into Egypt where they end up with Death Eater groups fighting to topple Cairo's Western-backed government.

Islamist bully boyz based in Egypt's Sinai region, bordering Gazoo and Israel, have killed hundreds of police and soldiers since Mursi's political demise following protests against his rule. The insurgency has spread to other parts of Egypt, the most populous Arab country.

CRACKDOWN

The lawyer who first raised the case against Hamas told Rooters he would request that Egypt's Foreign Ministry place Hamas on its list of terrorist organizations, based on previous judicial decisions.

"This ruling does not return us to zero. I have two rulings placing the Brotherhood and the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades on the list of terrorist organizations," Ashraf Farahat said.

Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, was classified as a terrorist organization by Egypt in January.

The Brotherhood was banned in 2013 following Mursi's ouster as part of a crackdown including many liberal and secular activists.

Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
welcomed Saturday's decision as "correcting a previous mistake".

"The decision today represents a commitment by Cairo to its strong role toward the Paleostinian cause. There is no doubt that (it) will have positive results and impacts on the relation between Hamas and Cairo," he told Rooters.

Hamas had rejected previous judicial rulings, while the Brotherhood maintains it is committed to peaceful activism and rejects links to violence.

Separately, the trial of two Egyptian coppers accused of killing a lawyer in jug began on Saturday.

The case is a rare action against members of the country's security forces. Rights groups accuse the police of abuses, which the government denies.

Ships rush to rescue thousands of migrants stranded in Mediterranean
[CNN] European naval ships rushed Saturday across the Mediterranean toward Libya to try to help thousands of migrants stranded at sea, the latest evidence of Europe's alarming immigration crisis.

About a dozen ships from several countries, along with at least one private ship, were involved in rescue operations at four locales, said an Italian coasties officer. They moved into action after the first distress calls came in early Saturday, U.N. Refugee Agency front man William Spindler said.

As of 6:45 p.m. (12:45 p.m. ET), an estimated 2,500 people had been rescued, according to the Italian Coast Guard officer, though that didn't mean many more people weren't still stuck and in danger.

"Weather and sea conditions are relatively good, and so far there have been no reports of accidents or of people dead or missing at sea," Spindler said.

45 held in connection with mosque bombings
[ARABNEWS] A total of 45 suspects have been detained in the last three days in connection with last month's bombing of two mosques in the Eastern Province and the May 8 terrorist attack on officer Majed Al-Ghamdi.

The Interior Ministry has, meanwhile, denied reports that one of the tossed in the clink

men in Riyadh is on the list of 16 wanted suspects. The ministry recently released the pictures of the 16 suspects wanted in the mosque attacks and announced huge rewards for information leading to their arrest.

Terror attacks on two successive Fridays during congregational prayers caused a huge loss of life and drew national and international condemnation. A total of 21 worshippers were killed and more than 100 injured in the attack on Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in Qatif on May 23. The Al-Anoud Mosque in Dammam was attacked on May 29, claiming four lives and leaving an unspecified number of worshippers injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Riyadh police also issued a denial on reports about a security patrol coming under gunfire in the capital. It said that the patrol met with an accident while chasing a suspicious vehicle, which was seized shortly afterward. As part of tough security measures across the Kingdom following the terror attacks, worshipers were searched and a tight vigil was maintained at mosques last Friday. The tough measures will remain in force.

Tehran 'arming Houthis'
[ARABNEWS] Houthis are receiving arms shipments from Iran, said Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Assiri, consultant in the office of the defense minister.

In a telephonic interview with Al-Arabiya channel on Saturday, Al-Assiri said the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...

Al-Assiri's statement came in the aftermath of Soddy Arabia

's successful interception of a Scud missile that was launched toward Khamis Mushayt by the Houthis on Friday.

Saudi troops used a Patriot missile battery to intercept the missile.

"Thanks to Allah, it was intercepted by the Royal Saudi Defense Forces by two Patriot missiles," said a statement from the coalition command center. The coalition forces destroyed the rocket launcher whose location was identified south of Saada.

"The coalition forces involved in the anti-Houthi operation do not exclude the possibility of more such attempts," said Al-Assiri.

"We are facing a brutal enemy which does not hesitate in attacking and killing civilians," he said. "Our forces are fully ready to neutralize these missiles, and this is what happened late last night (Friday)," he said.

Al-Assiri explained that since the start of the military operations, the enemy militias were divided into two parts, the first was the Houthi fighters whose mission was to engage with the Saudi ground troops at the Saudi borders with Yemen, and the second was the forces supporting deposed President-for-Life Saleh

"What happened on Friday on the border was that the two parts joined forces and launched a desperate attack on our borders," he said.

He asserted that the military operations against Saleh and the Houthi militias will continue.

Bangladesh
India, Bangladesh agree on territory swap deal
[NATION.PK] India's prime minister today arrived in Bangladesh to seal a land pact which will finally allow tens of thousands of people living in border enclaves to choose their nationality after decades of stateless limbo.

Bangladesh Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
received Narendra Modi after he landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and greeted a host of dignitaries including ministers who came to receive him.

During his two-day visit to India's closest ally, Narendra Modi is also expected to sign a raft of trade deals and meet Bangladesh's embattled opposition leader the loathesome Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
.

But his first trip to Dhaka since his election last May will be dominated by the deal to permanently fix the contours of a border which stretches some 4,000 kilometres (2,500 miles) along India's eastern flank.

While Delhi's relations with China and Pakistain continue to be dogged by border disputes, the Land Boundary Agreement's ratification will remove a thorn that has troubled relations between the two countries since Bangladesh's 1971 war of secession from Pakistain.

India's intervention on behalf of the independence fighters proved decisive in that conflict and successive Bangladeshi governments have enjoyed close ties with their giant neighbour.

The Grand Turk
Turkey ruling AKP 'loses majority'

Applying the Kemalist Cluebat Thought Club
Turkey's governing AK party appears on course to lose its parliamentary majority, early projections suggest.

They also suggest the pro-Kurdish HDP is set to cross the 10% threshold, securing seats for the first time.
nice
With 90% of the vote counted, the AKP had 42% of the vote, according to Turkish TV stations.
the other 10% they got 136%
If confirmed, the result would end the AKP's 13-year single-party rule, and upset President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's plans to boost his office's powers.

President Erdogan, who first came to power as prime minister in 2003, has been seeking a two-thirds majority to turn Turkey into a presidential republic.

The BBC's Mark Lowen in Istanbul says Sunday's election was the biggest electoral challenge for the AKP since it came to power, with economic growth stalling.
the sick man of Europe
According to the TV projections, Mr Erdogan's Justice and Development Party's share of the vote would translate into 263 seats in the 550-seat parliament, followed by the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). The pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) would get 11.6% - 75 seats.

An unnamed AKP official told Reuters news agency: "We expect a minority government and early election."

Erdogan tells UK paper: Know your limits!
[ARABNEWS] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Saturday stepped up his attacks on foreign media a day ahead of legislative elections, telling the Guardian to "know your limits" and lamenting that "Jewish capital" was behind the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
Erdogan has during the campaign leading up to Sunday's polls repeatedly criticized foreign media, amid growing concerns over an erosion of freedom of expression in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
under his rule.

In one of its final pre-election rallies in the eastern province of Ardahan, Erdogan took offense at an article in the Guardian critical of his rule, including an editorial titled "Growing autocracy threatens a crucial country."

"Do you know what a British newspaper says about this election?" Erdogan told the crowd. "It says the not fully-westernized, poor Moslems are not being allowed to manage their own country!"

"Who are you? You are impertinent!" he told the paper. "Know your limits. Since when were you given such authority?"

Erdogan also launched a new attack on the New York Times, which has written there are "dark clouds" over Turkey under his rule.

He said the newspaper had been campaigning against Turkey's leaders going back to Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II, who ruled the Ottoman Empire during the final phase of its decline.

Turkey parliamentary election: President Erdogan trades blows with opposition over deadly rally blasts
[ABC.NET.AU] Turkish president Yayyip Erdogan has traded blows with the opposition ahead of today's parliamentary vote which could give the incumbent sweeping new powers.

Mr Erdogan is hoping the ruling AK Party he founded will win a crushing victory, allowing it to change the constitution and handing him broad presidential powers.

Tensions heightened on Friday after two bombs tore through a Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) rally in the city of Diyarbakir in the mainly Kurdish south-east, killing two and injuring at least 200.

The pro-Kurdish party has accused the president of failing to show respect for two opposition supporters who died.

HDP leader Selahattin Demirtas criticised Mr Erdogan, saying the president had gone ahead with his own rally after news of the attack broke, and had been slow to mention the tragedy.

"He should go to Diyarbakir. Is he not the president of 77 million people? He ought to leave flowers where people were killed," Mr Demirtas told a rally on the Asian side of Istanbul.

Mr Erdogan countered by saying it was Mr Demirtas who should apologise, and accused him of instigating violence in October, linked to events in Syria, that killed dozens.

Canada will deport Pakistani accused of plotting Toronto terror attacks
[NATION.PK] Canadian immigration authorities on Friday ordered the deportation of a Pakistani man accused of plotting to bomb the US consulate and financial buildings in Toronto.

Jahanzeb Malik is the second Pakistani national in recent months to be ordered out of Canada on national security grounds.

According to the immigration board's written decision, Malik “planned to conduct a violent attack against a United States government building and other targets in the financial district of Toronto, which could have resulted in the death and/or serious injury of persons as well as the destruction of property”.

Canadian authorities further alleged that Malik tried to recruit an undercover agent into the conspiracy.

“Mr Malik devoted himself for five months to recruiting the officer as a fellow jihadist, indoctrinating the officer in his belief system and inciting him to assist Mr Malik in carrying out his planned attack,” said the ruling.

Malik will remain in custody until he is flown back to Pakistan.

He came to Canada as a student in 2004 and was granted permanent residency five years later.

Malik was arrested in March following a federal police anti-terror squad investigation.

Rather than file charges, authorities took him before the Immigration and Refugee Board to seek his deportation to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a member of banned Pakistani group Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) also faces deportation from Canada after being caught with a cache of firearms.

Mohammad Aqeeq Ansari was ruled inadmissible for being a member of the banned ASWJ, formerly known as Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP).

Seven of its members were hanged in Pakistan in January for killings, attempted assassinations and an attack on the US consulate in Karachi in 2003.

#1  The actual physical details of the deportation from Canuckistan are interesting as they often involve the use of hoods (the facial and head type rather than the locales), gags, lots and lots of cuffs, the odd baton, and . . . diapers. Sort of like a block party from the 70's.

Curious. While catch & release might work with trout, releasing jihadis back into the wild seems unwise.

IG Sindh disbands all Special Investigation Teams
[NATION.PK] Prompted by a news report, Inspector General of (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali disbanded all the Special Investigation Teams (SITs) in the province with immediate effect today.

"No Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will not be authorized to constitute any special unit," the IGP told news hounds. Earlier, a private TV channel reported a gang of cops involved in unwarranted arrests, unlawful detention, fake encounter and extrajudicial killings in the eastern district of the metropolis.

"Special Investigation Team (SIT) East, a unit of Bloody Karachi

Police is at the center of gross violations that led to the deaths of dozens of citizens," a whistleblower, who himself is a part of that ring of cops, revealed.

IGP Jamali said the DIG West had been tasked to get to the bottom of the allegations faced by the SIT East.

It is noteworthy that 'outlaw' cops running the SIT East are also said to have hands in the custodial killing of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement

...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...

...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
and organizations over the gross violations of the rights of Rohingya Moslems and their persecution and genocide raises serious questions about the utility and effectiveness of international forums that proclaim themselves as upholder, defender and promoter of human rights and democratic values.
Yeah, buddy! For people who're oppressed and exploited a Pak govt committee is just the thing!
The Interior Minister, while making an impassioned appeal to the United Nations

#2  Yes, indeed "unexpectedly." You have such a way with words grom--always succinct and to the point. You always get to the nub of things in a word.

Washington's plan snag have anything to do with the fact that much of ISIS is comprised of Sunnis?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran says welcomes investments by US companies in its oil projects
[Iran Press TV] Iran's Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh says the country welcomes the participation of American corporations in its oil projects.

"We welcome the presence of American oil companies in Iran," Zangeneh has been quoted as saying by the country's local media. "We will definitely prepare the grounds for the presence of American oil companies in Iran".

Nevertheless, the Iranian minister emphasized that US businesses will still have to wait for the removal of sanctions that prevent them from investing in Iran.

At the moment, Zangeneh told the Persian-language newspaper Etemad, the American companies cannot invest in Iran due to the sanctions that the US government has put in place.

A series of sanctions approved by the US government and the Congress bar US businesses from investing in the Iranian oil sector projects.

Etemad wrote that ConocoPhillips, which had left Iran in 1995 due to sanctions, had voiced interest to return to the country on the sidelines of the OPEC conference in Vienna on Wednesday.

Assad militias use cluster arms, U.S. ammunition: document
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A formal document has shown the type and source of arms and ammunition used by the Syrian regime and its militias, surprisingly, some of sources were from so called conspiring alliance against Syria.

the document confirmed that national Defence forces (NDF) and other pro-regime militias used arms and ammunition made in Germany, USA and Egypt, as well as Russia and China. Even after two and a half years from the beginning of the revolution despite the Western economic sanction.

The document has been leaked from the office of National Defence Forces (NDF)- Latakia branch, which detailed types and source of munitions, like German bullets (9mm), Chinese Cluster rockets type (9-M-21) and many types of American bullets and Egyptian RPG-7.

The document confirmed that regime owned cluster arms, which is considered the most important point, and gave that kind of destructive arms to its sectarian militias.

Rocket (9-M-21) has many forms and its effects varies according to the ammunition it is provided with, some of them can reach beyond 70 km, and can be more destructive it was fit with cluster arms, as their shrapnel can make lots of damage.

Eliot Higgins , known as Brown Moses, international activist and expert in arms, confirmed that Syrian regime had used cluster bombs against many Syrian cities, by analysing photos surfaced on the internet.

Zionists want US to attack Iran, not to reach nuclear deal: Writer
[Iran Press TV] Zionists want the United States to stop negotiating with Iran over its nuclear energy program and launch a deadly war against Iran, an American political activist and writer says.

Ralph Schoenman, former personal secretary of British philosopher Bertrand Russell, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Saturday while commenting on Israel's request to the US to extend the June 30 deadline for a nuclear deal with Iran.

Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, a former intelligence minister and a high-ranking Likud Party member, is in Washington for meetings with top B.O. regime officials regarding the Iran nuclear talks.

He is urging the B.O. regime to soften the deadline, arguing it is inadvertently giving Tehran leverage in the negotiations.

"The demand by a senior Israeli official that the United States extend the deadline for the Iran nuclear talks is a ploy," Schoenman said.

"And it's quite clear what the intension is. It's to delay, and to stall and to continue to prevent an agreement being reached in the expectation that the forthcoming elections may bring a Republican to office and allow for the Congress to reject the agreement and with the expectation that the newly elected president will not veto that rejection," he added.

"So what we are looking here is another of the attempts on the part of the Zionist state to prevent any kind of agreement from being reached that would stand in the way of a confrontation, and in fact what the Zionists really want is an attack on Iran," he stated.

"And that's basically what we are witnessing here, and they are not even opaque about their design," the political activist continued.

"They're exclusively speculating that they can use [Sheldon] Adelson and many [others like him] to spend huge sums of money to attempt to elect the Congress and a president that will go along with the rejection, and will prevent any kind of understanding from being reached, intensify the sanctions, and to take further steps to provoke a war. That's the intent," he pointed out.

Iran's Supreme Leader urges Muslim unity in face of West
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Thursday for unity in the Moslem world in order to counter "oppression" from the West, on the anniversary of his predecessor's death.

In a speech marking 26 years since the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Theocratic Republic, Khamenei also ruled out any warming of ties with the United States, one of several world powers negotiating a nuclear deal with Tehran.

"We must pay attention to conspiracies seeking to divide on the basis of religion, between Shiites and Sunnis, or on an ethnic basis," he said.

Khamenei praised Khomeini for having coined the term "the Great Satan™" to refer to the United States, with which diplomatic ties have been severed since 1980.

Active online, foreign women become Islamic State widows
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] At least 15 young Western women who joined Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and married jihadi fighters are now widows after the bad boy group suffered losses in festivities in Syria and Iraq, according to researchers who closely monitor Islamist Death Eaters online.

The Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) think tank in London gave Rooters access to its database of 106 foreign women it says have moved to IS territory and are active online.

Fifteen of the women have either mentioned on social media that they lost their husbands in fighting, or other known IS supporters have announced the men's deaths online, said ISD researcher Melanie Smith.

Although Rooters could not independently confirm the identities of the women, many of them have been said by relatives to have left their home countries for Syria and Iraq. Some have also been named by law enforcement officials in their countries or leave online traces, such as having geographical locators on their Twitter accounts.

Smith said most of the women believed to be widows lost their husbands in the last six months. IS, which swept through northern Iraq last June, has recently suffered some battlefield setbacks including at the Syrian city of Kobani where it was defeated by Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Arclight airstrikes.

The morale of foreign women is a concern for IS because it is trying to attract females from abroad to marry Islamist fighters and populate the territory it holds.

The latest edition of the IS online magazine Dabiq urged "every (foreign) sister who has been afflicted with the loss of her husband on the battlefield" not to become disheartened.

"Be firm, my dear sister, be patient, and await your reward. "Be wary, be wary of thinking of going back (home)," it said in an article, which told foreign women that migrating to the Islamic State is a binding religious obligation.

Given the anonymity of the Internet and the status of IS women who are hidden from public view, identifying Western females in the group's ranks is difficult.

Smith's database counts foreign women who identify themselves as living in territory controlled by IS and are active on social media. They will often indicate their nationality in Twitter bios or pseudonyms.

In IS, women whose husbands have been killed soon move out of their marital homes and join a "shuhada" house for the widows of deaders, according to their postings.

The widows are encouraged to marry again soon after a traditional Islamic mourning period of four months and 10 days, according to Aqsa Mahmood, a Scottish woman of Pak origin whose family has acknowledged her identity. Mahmood has a Tumblr blog that details her life in Syria with IS.

The women often write about life in IS territory in detailed postings and tweet photographs of street scenes in Syria or Iraq. Their postings range from expressions of grief to calls to assassinate Western leaders to occasional expressions of discontent over their treatment. Their posts do not appear to be centrally controlled by IS, researchers say.

Rita Katz, founder of the U.S.-based SITE Intelligence Group which monitors jihadi websites, said there were likely many more than 15 widows since the foreign women tend to marry IS fighters.

"Not all of them are online tweeting about it," she said.

Smith says that all of the 15 widows she has identified are between 16 and 26 years old. Based mostly on references in their postings, she believes that seven of them are British, with others from La Belle France, Belgium, Canada, the United States, Australia and South Africa.

A woman known online as Umm Jihad said her Australian husband Suhan Rahman was killed in March. He "died the best of deaths so it's nothing to be upset about, it's just that we're still here, that's the hardest part," she later tweeted.

The BuzzFeed News site last weekend reported that Umm Jihad is a 20-year-old woman of Yemeni descent from Hoover, Alabama, which would make her the first known U.S. woman to be widowed. BuzzFeed interviewed the woman's father who acknowledged she had joined IS. Rooters was unable to verify the father's identity or contact him.
