Ethiopia greets Eritreans with flowers for first talks since war
[DAWN] Æthiopia rolled out the red carpet for Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
’s top diplomat on Tuesday as the two nations took the next step in a historic initiative aimed at ending decades of conflict and hostility.

The thaw between the foes who fought a bitter border war 20 years ago comes after an olive branch was dramatically offered by new Æthiopian prime minister, Abiy Ahmed.

As Eritrea’s top diplomat Osman Saleh and presidential adviser Yemane Gebreab landed at Addis Ababa’s airport, Abiy was there to greet them, leading the pair along a red carpet past traditional dancers, local celebrities and a brass band.

Arabia
UAE says it wants Yemen peace deal, but Houthis must leave port city
[DAWN] The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Tuesday an Arab coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
was cooperating with a UN envoy to end fighting, but the Houthis must quit the port city of Hodeidah as a condition for any peace deal.

UN envoy Martin Griffiths is visiting the southern city of Aden on Wednesday for talks with ousted President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in the exiled governments temporary capital, after similar talks with the Houthis in Sanaa last week.

The UN is seeking a breakthrough in the three-year-old conflict that has killed more than 10,000 and caused the worlds most urgent humanitarian crisis, with millions facing starvation and disease.

Australian court lifts suppression on identity of Adelaide student accused of supporting ISIS
[EN.ABNA24] A suppression order on the identity of a South Australian student charged with being a member of self-proclaimed Islamic State has now been revoked by the Supreme Court.

23-year-old Zainab Abdirahman-Khalif is charged with knowingly being a member of a terrorist organisation.

The woman was arrested by Australian Federal Police in May last year after allegedly trying to fly to Turkey on a one-way ticket.

She allegedly pledged her allegiance to ISIS after communicating with extremists online who were involved in terrorist attacks in Kenya.

The prosecution alleges the woman had been repeating oaths and singing songs connected to ISIS in her bedroom.

Her lawyer previously tried to have the charge dismissed, but the court found there was a case to answer.

Ms Abdiraham-Khalif pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Anne Bampton last week revoked a suppression order which had prevented publication of Ms Abdiraham-Khalif's name and image.

French Jihadist Admits Islamic State Planned to Send Child Soldiers to Carry Out Attacks in Europe
[Breitbart London] A French member of Islamic State has admitted that the organisation had made plans to send child soldiers disguised as underage asylum seekers to Europe to carry out terrorist attacks.

French jihadist Jonathan Geffroy was captured by the Free Syrian Army in early 2017 and given over to French authorities later that year where currently he awaits trial for criminal conspiracy, Le Monde reports.

Geffroy was interrogated several times between September 2017 and February 2018 by the French General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI), claiming that he wanted to cooperate with the counter-terrorism organisation.

The jihadist said that he was in close contact with Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain while in Syria. The brothers are believed to be the highest-ranking French members of Islamic State still alive in the region and they were the ones, according to Geffroy, who wanted to send child soldiers to Europe to carry out attacks.

Malta to let in migrant ship if EU states help
[DAWN] Malta said on Tuesday it would only allow a stranded rescue ship carrying over 200 migrants colonists to dock if other EU states agreed to take in some of those onboard.

The fate of the Lifeline ship, run by a German NGO, hung in the balance as EU states remained at loggerheads over how to handle the influx of people trying to reach the continent.

The vessel had rescued the 234 migrants colonists, including children and pregnant women, on Thursday but Malta and Italia initially refused to take it in.

"I just got off the phone with (Maltese) Prime Minister (Joseph) Muscat: the NGO ship Lifeline will dock in Malta," Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said, without specifying when.

"Italia will do its part and welcome some of the migrants who are onboard the Lifeline." Portugal also confirmed it was ready to accept an unspecified number of the Lifeline passengers.

India-Pakistan
Kurram IDPs set conditions for return
[DAWN] The displaced families of Kurram have rejected the procedure of their rehabilitation and warned of moving court and staging a sit-in outside the parliament house if the government does not release funds for reconstruction of their destroyed houses and shops.

Speaking at a news conference at the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Press Club on Tuesday, a group of elders led by Haji Rohullah said at least 1,000 families of Parachinar had been out of their villages for last 11 years, but the federal government had never paid serious attention towards their misery.

He said after the Fata-KP merger the tribal people had access to the courts and they would use their right if their demands were not met.

"The government is forcibly sending the families to their villages and those not willing are threatened with blockage of their CNICs and passports and confiscation of their land properties," said Rohullah, describing the policy as injustice with the displaced people.

He revealed that when the people returned to their hometowns they found their houses razed, but the government was not ready to release funds for reconstruction of the buildings.

Iraq
Islamic State militants wives in Iraq ask courts for divorce
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The wives of runaway Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bully boyz are asking courts in Iraq to legally separate them from their spouses, a judicial source was quoted saying by al-Arabiya network.

The source said Iraqi courts at some Sunni regions received requests from the wives of ISIS myrmidons, who fled fighting with the group, asking for separation, especially at Anbar and Nineveh.

The source said the courts approved many requests based on a decree issued by the former Iraqi regime of late president Saddam Hussein which allows Iraqi women to apply for separation for "convincing reasons".

The approvals, according to the source, cited "the damage to reputation caused to the wives by their husbands’ affiliation with terrorist entities, adding that many of the women claimed they were married against their will.

Since IS bully boyz took over a third of Iraq in 2014 to proclaim a self-styled "caliphate", reports were rampant of the gunnies forcing Iraqi females under their rule to get married to them, as well as accounts of sexual slavery.

Iraqi authorities are holding hundreds of wives and children of IS myrmidons, some of whom have been sentenced to death and prison for involvement with the myrmidons’ activities.

Southeast Asia
Myanmar sacks top general blamed for Rohingya killings
[DAWN] Myanmar’s military said it sacked a top general who was named in fresh EU sanctions against security officials accused of serious rights violations in the Rohingya crisis, including killings and sexual violence.

Myanmar is accused of waging a crackdown in Rakhine state that forced 700,000 to flee that the UN and major western powers have said amounts to "ethnic cleansing".

But the military said late on Monday in a Facebook post that Major General Maung Maung Soe, the former head of the western command in Rakhine, had been "purged" for poor performance.

The announcement came after the EU said he was among seven security officials hit with travel bans and asset freezes, but Myanmar did not link his sacking to the new sanctions.

The Facebook post said Maung Maung Soe was first reassigned last November, and that his removal from his position in the western command was to "inspect his responsibility over his weakness while working for Rakhine state stability".

Maung Maung Soe was also the target of US sanctions last year over the Rohingya crisis.

The statement added that Lieutenant General Aung Kyaw Zaw ‐ commander of the bureau of special operations and also on the EU list ‐ was permitted to resign in May for health reasons and "weakness in serving duty".

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran reopens uranium feedstock plant in preparation to boost enrichment
[Ynet] Following orders by supreme leader, atomic energy agency relaunches, in symbolic move, a plant for production of UF6, the feedstock for centrifuge machines that enrich uranium.

Iran has reopened a nuclear plant idle for nine years, its atomic energy agency (AEOI) said on Wednesday, as Tehran prepares to increase uranium enrichment capacity if a nuclear deal with world powers falls apart after the US withdrawal.

US-Iranian tensions have resurged since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
pulled Washington out of the 2015 nuclear accord, calling it deeply flawed. Under the deal, Iran restricted its enrichment program to ease concerns it could not be put to developing nuclear weapons and in return won relief from sanctions.

European signatories are trying to save the accord, which they see as crucial to forestalling an Iranian nuclear weapon. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the AEOI this month to start preparations to upgrade enrichment capacity in case the European efforts fail.

The AEOI said on Wednesday that in response to Khamenei's order and Trump's renunciation of the deal, a plant for the production of UF6, the feedstock for centrifuge machines that enrich uranium, had been relaunched and a barrel of yellow cake has been delivered there.

Uranium ore, known as yellow cake, is converted into a gas called uranium hexafluoride (UF6) before enrichment.

The UF6 factory, which had been inactive since 2009 due to a lack of yellow cake, is part of the Isfahan uranium conversion facility, according to AEOI's statement on its website.

"Iran has imported a huge amount of yellow cake since the nuclear deal" in 2015, and had also produced some domestically.

The ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog that is policing Iran's compliance with the nuclear deal, said on June 5 that the AEOI had informed it of "tentative" plans to resume production of UF6.

The move is symbolic and permissible under the nuclear deal, which allows Iran to enrich uranium to 3.67 percent, far below the 90 percent of weapons-grade uranium, and caps its stock of enriched uranium hexafluoride at 300 kilograms (660 pounds).

President Hassan Rouhani has written to counterparts in La Belle France, Germany and Britannia, warning that time to salvage the nuclear deal is running out.

Rouhani's chief of staff, Mahmoud Vaezi, was quoted as saying on Wednesday by the government's website that Rouhani had expressed Iran's demands "very clearly" in this letter.

Washington will start reimposing some economic penalties on Tehran in August and more in November.

Iran ready to help implement UN’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy: Envoy
[EN.ABNA24] The Iranian deputy ambassador to the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
highlighted the country’s unwavering policy to fight against terrorism and said Tehran is ready to help implement the UN’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

"...the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran remains committed to the implementation of the General Assembly's Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy," Eshaq al-e-Habib said before the UN General Assembly on Agenda item 118: "the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy" in New York on Tuesday.

"We stand ready to help Mr. Voronkov (the under-secretary-general of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office) and his team in discharging their important functions in pursuing the goal of ridding the world of terrorism and call on all peace-loving Member States to fulfil their commitments in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," he added.
