[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Moroccan prosecutor on Thursday demanded the death sentence ...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead... for three suspects in the murder of two female Scandinavian tourists in the Atlas mountains in December.
Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, from Denmark, and Maren Ueland, 28, from Norway, were found dead on Dec. 17 near the Moroccan village of Imlil, a popular hiking and trekking destination.
The three men had pledged allegiance to the ISIS in a video made three days before the murder. Authorities described them after their arrest as "lone wolves" who had not coordinated the killings with ISIS.
Last month in a court hearing in Sale near Rabat, two of the suspects, Abdessamad Ejjoud and Youness Ouziyad, admitted to attacking and decapitating the two women, who were staying overnight in a tent in the mountains.
A third suspect, Rachid Afatti, said he filmed the killing. Ejjoud said the video of the murder was shared with other ISIS sympathizers.
The prosecutor called for life in prison for a fourth suspect who left the group on the day the murder took place.
The prosecutor also demanded prison sentences ranging from 10 to 30 years for 20 other people, who were arrested for links to the main suspects. The 20 face charges including forming a criminal gang to commit terrorist acts, encouraging terrorism, and undermining public order.

[DW] A police study has revealed that more than half of the country's radicalized students complete their education in general schools. Experts say the government needs to shift focus while targeting potential Death Eaters.
The Anti-terrorism Unit of Bangladesh's police published the report, called Preventing Terrorism and Extremism through Community Engagement, last week. The study used data collected from 3,000 suspects who were arrested between 2015 and 2017.
"The common idea is that only Madrassas produce Death Eaters, which is absolutely wrong. It is evident that only the Madrassa or Islamic education system cannot be blamed for militancy," Additional Deputy Inspector General (Intelligence) Mohammed Moniruzzaman told DW.
EDUCATION TO BLAME?
Schooling in Bangladesh is divided into three chief systems. The general, or mainstream education system treats all religions equally and the curriculum is controlled by the government. Madrassas focus on Islamic education for their students and English-medium schools offer all subjects in the English language. There are around 100,000 primary schools in Bangladesh that follow the general system.
Data from the police study revealed that 56% of Islamic gunnies had been educated in the general system, while 22% each came from English-medium and Madrassa schools, although the English system has only 200 schools compared to 20,000 madrassas.
Speaking to DW, Shantanu Majumder, professor at the University of Dhaka said that the education system alone was not to blame for the influencing students negatively.
"One can be exposed to such [radical] ideas sitting in any type of school, whereas I still believe that the government should not take its hands off of monitoring the books or syllabus that are studied in some religion-based schools," he told DW.
MORE INTERNET, MORE RADICALS?
The survey also revealed that 80% of those arrested were radicalized through the Internet while 20% were swayed by their peers. Police officer Moniruzzaman said that students of Bengali and English-medium schools used the internet more often compared to Madrassa students.
He said it was possible that frequent access resulted in more radicalization, but other surveys have proved the contrary. For example, a survey by Move Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Bangladesh, revealed that 75% of Madrassa students had access to the internet through their mobile phones and tablets. Their survey included 36 Madrassas across 12 districts of Bangladesh.
"On an average, students of Madrassas spend one and half hours on the internet every day," Saiful Haq, the head of the NGO told DW, adding, "Girls spend more time than the boys." However, we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by... school administrators could not prevent students from using the internet when they were at home.
"Many of them use mobile phones and computers at home. They can use the internet there," Mawlana Mahfuzul Haq, principal of the Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrassa in the capital of Dhaka told DW. He also said that his institution regularly held teachings to dissuade students from joining radical groups. "With references from the holy Koran and Hadith we tell them that there is no relation between religion and terrorism," he said.
SHIFT IN FOCUS
In the last few years, several terror attacks in Bangladesh, including at the Holey artisan bakery in Dhaka, the murders of bloggers and liberal thinkers have led the government of Bangladesh to adopt a "zero-tolerance approach" towards Islamic radicalization. Among other initiatives to prevent the youth from joining Death Eaters, the police are increasingly monitoring educational institutions other than Madrassas.
"Especially after the Holey Artisan attack where students from private universities were involved, the common attitude of blaming Madrassas for spreading radicalization has changed drastically among people," the University of Dhaka's Shantanu Majumder told DW.
He thinks that government agencies have successfully countered terror acts, but there is a complex process through which radicalization occurs, and this has increased. On the other hand, cultural activities like theater, which create open attitudes and promote free thinking, have reduced.
Majumder feels that focusing on cultural movements could fight radicalization. "For that, we need to promote more cultural activities in schools, hostels and other places."
[WGNTV] Bank of America will end its association with companies that provide prisoner and immigrant detention services at both the state and federal levels. The move comes amid growing public concern about the nation’s border policies.
A spokesperson said Wednesday that Bank of America has discussed the issue with its clients that provide those services. While the bank appreciates "steps they have taken to properly execute their contractual and humanitarian responsibilities," it ultimately decided to "exit the relationships."
"Lacking further legal and policy clarity, and in recognition of the concerns of our employees and stakeholders in the communities we serve, it is our intention to exit these relationships," the spokesperson said.
The Miami Herald previously reported that Bank of America was a financier of Caliburn ‐ which the newspaper said runs a facility called Homestead under a US government contract. The Herald said the bank provided a $380 million loan to the company and a $75 million credit line. The paper indicated Homestead is not a prison, but "protesters say it functions as one. The minors held inside are not allowed to leave."
They have every right to do so. And the federal government has every right thereafter to cut off all use of their services — following the model of companies that insist on their right to boycott Israel.
Discrimination for purposes of Virtue Signalling against a legal legitimate business by a FDIC-insured entity should remove that FDIC insurance and disallow them from using the Fed. If the criteria were black-owned businesses, would they be allowed to exist?

[BREITBART] Following an announcement by a group to hold a second "burkini" protest at a pool in the French city of Grenoble, counter-protesters have called on locals to swim in the pool wearing nothing at all.
Last Sunday, a group of around a dozen women belonging to the Alliance Citoyenne (Citizens’ Alliance) protested at a pool that had banned the wearing of the Islamic sharia-compliant swimwear, with police being called soon after the group were told the burkini was against the rules of the pool.
According to a report from La Belle France Bleu, the group has announced another protest to take place on Sunday, but this time others on social media have suggested bathers take off all of their clothes and bathe naked in counter-protest.
"Next Sunday, we invite all the citizens attached to the values of the Republic to get naked in front of the commandos in burkinis! They want to extinguish the enlightenment: together, let’s drop the bathrobes! Long live secularism uninhibited!" the counter-protesters wrote.
Grenoble’s local government official for sport Sadok Bouzaïene said he did not want to contribute to the "buzz" surrounding the issue saying that the women "have broken the swimming pool rules that exist for reasons of hygiene and safety. We do not exclude anyone but there are rules."
Hygiene has also been used as a reason to ban the burkini in other swimming pools in Germany and Austria, although a recent case in the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate overturned a ban after a judge deemed it in violation of the constitution.
La Belle France has been wrestling with the topic of the sharia swimwear since 2016 when it was banned on public beaches along the French Riviera. That ban was later overturned by the French supreme court later that same year.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Syria’s oil pipelines off the coast of Tartous recently came under attack by an unknown entity in the eastern Mediterranean.
While no group or country has grabbed credit for the attack, Syria’s al-Watan publication, citing Russian Today and Eurasia Daily, reported that the earth-shattering kabooms at the oil pipelines were not an accident.
The report said the pictures showing the aftermath of the earth-shattering kaboom indicates that they were detonated.
"The pictures show that the pipelines were not accidentally damaged, but rather, were detonated. The importance of these lines is that they supply the Banias oil refinery with raw materials from tankers, and are now the main source of strategic energy in Syria.
They would go on to say that those responsible for the attack were either the United States ‐ who have imposed sanctions against Syria ‐ or neighboring The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... .
According to the publication, Turkey may have retaliated against Syria for their attack on the Ottoman Turkish military’s observation post.
