Afghanistan
Afghan-Taliban talks could happen within two weeks
[ARABNEWS] Direct talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
could begin in Norway within the next two weeks, officials and sources said Saturday, marking a potentially crucial step in efforts to end the war.

The Taliban have so far refused to speak to the government of President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
, which they see as illegitimate, except for at a recent summit where Ghani officials attended in a "personal capacity."

"We are preparing for direct talks," said Abdul Salam Rahimi, the state minister for peace affairs, noting that the government would be represented by a 15-member delegation.

"We are working with all sides and hope that in the next two weeks the first meeting will take place in a Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an country."

He did not specify where the summit might take place, but diplomatic sources told AFP the talks were scheduled to begin in Oslo on August 7. The sources said the international community and the Afghan government were still awaiting word from the Taliban.

Ghani and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo agreed in a telephone call Wednesday that "now is the time to accelerate efforts to reach a negotiated end to the war in Afghanistan," according to a joint statement.

US peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who is leading a push to forge a peace deal with the Taliban, has spent the past several days in Kabul, where he met with Ghani and US officials.

He is expected to fly to Doha next week for what would be an eighth round of direct US-Taliban talks. The two foes claim progress in reaching a deal that would end America’s nearly 18-year military involvement in Afghanistan.

Washington has said it wants to see a deal inked by September 1, but any deal requires the Taliban to talk to Kabul.

Civil aviation delegation inspects Sharm El-Sheikh Airport as resumption of charter flights within reach
[AlAhram] A delegation from Egypt's civil aviation ministry inspected Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, as the country continues its efforts to attract tourists via charter flights previously suspended by several Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an countries since the crash of a Russian airliner in 2015.

The delegation praised all security measures implemented at the airport during their inspection of measures inside and outside of the airport, as well as perimeter fences and surveillance cameras.

The delegation said that the Sharm El-Sheikh airport is among the most vital in the country as it is a key tourist destination and continually hosts a number of regional and international conferences year round.

Egypt has been boosting security procedures at many of its airports in response to existing British and Russian ban on flights to this tourist hub since the Russian airliner crash over Egypt's Sinai which killed everyone on board.

Russian flights to and from Cairo were reestablished in April 2018, ending a suspension which lasted over two-and-a-half-years.The bans on flights like these have been hurting Sharm El-Sheikh economically, but Egypt hopes that with increased security measures all bans will be lifted.

Last week, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said he hopes that the final agreement on the resumption of charter flights to the airports of Egypt’s Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh will be reached in the near future.

"At the moment the work on the main airports serving tourists in the resort areas of Egypt - Sinai, Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada - is almost completed. We hope that in the near future final agreements on the resumption of flights, at least charter flights to these resorts, will be reached, " he said, according to Interfax.

Trump paves way for sanctions in Mali conflict
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US President Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
issued an executive order Friday laying the groundwork for sanctions against those who have exacerbated the "deteriorating situation in Mali," the White House said.

The decree will freeze assets and suspend travel for "individuals or entities that seek to undermine the peace, security or stability of Mali," Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement.

Mali is struggling to quell unrest that began in 2012 in the north and spread to other parts of the country, despite aid from French and UN forces.

"Extremist groups are exploiting ethnic tensions and expanding their networks well outside Mali’s borders," Pompeo added, without specifying who might be targeted by the sanctions.

A US senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said that anyone sanctioned "can no longer access the United States financial system."

Last week Washington imposed sanctions on an al-Qaeda-linked group in Mali that carried out deadly attacks on the country’s armed forces.

In 2015 a peace agreement was signed with some armed factions, but parts of Mali remain beyond the control of the government and the armed forces.

The UN mission to Mali, known as MINUSMA, "has faced more violence and danger than any other peacekeeping mission in UN history," Pompeo said.

Court declares Shiite movement a terrorist group
[TWITTER]
The Federal Government has obtained a court order to proscribe the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, popularly known as Shiite.

Shiite members have been demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenah, who were arrested after a clash with the Army in Zaria.

The Shiite group was also accused of “nefarious activities”, murder, attacks on security agents, provocative preaching and hate speeches while working towards an agenda of creating an Islamic State in Nigeria.

Ozhekome says proscription of Shiite group is unconstitutional
[PULSE.NG] Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome has faulted the court order obtained by Federal Government to proscribe the Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shiite Moslems.
Ozekhome said the court order which also declared the movement as a terrorist group was unconstitutional, saying a religious group can not be banned.

The lawyer argued that the proscription is discriminatory on the ground that that Buhari administration has refused to proscribe herdsmen that have allegedly been killing Nigerians for a long time.

Ozekhome further argued that the proscription was a violation of the rights of the members of the Shiite Moslems guaranteed under section 38, 40 and 41 of the Constitution, adding that "the Constitution is ruthlessly being shredded by an intolerant and overbearing civilian dictatorship."

Iraq discovers mass grave of Kuwaiti captives in Muthanna
Muthanna (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Iraqi authorities announced on Saturday the discovery of a mass grave believed to be containing remains of Kuwaiti captives, who were executed by the former regime of Saddam Hussein in Muthanna governorate.

In a blurb carried by the Arabic-language Alghad Press website, Governor of Muthanna Ahmed Jouda said that local security and intelligence forces received information on the presence of a mass grave containing remains of Kuwaiti captives killed by Saddam’s regime in the governorate desert.

He noted that the local authorities informed competent authorities to take legal action to confirm the discovery.

The International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) has recently found some remains of suspected Kuwaiti victims in the desert of Muthanna, and took DNA samples to identify the bodies.

Kuwaiti authorities have indicated that the human remains will be locally re-examined for final authentication.

Muslims using social media platforms to create fake posts that implicate Christians in blasphemy cases
[JihadWatch] Islamic supremacist thugs "are increasingly using social media platforms to falsely implicate Christians in blasphemy cases by creating fraudulent posts. According to Open Doors USA, Facebook posts have become a new tool used by Islamic extremists to persecute Christians." They do it by hacking into Facebook accounts. It's a new way to persecute Christians, as is done in Pakistan, where some Muslims falsely accuse Christians of blasphemy, subjecting the Christians to mob lynchings, jail, or state execution.

Islamic extremists are increasingly using social media platforms to falsely implicate Christians in blasphemy cases by creating fraudulent posts.

According to Open Doors USA, Facebook posts have become a new tool used by Islamic extremists to persecute Christians.

In one case in Egypt, a 26-year-old Christian man named Fady Youssef Todary noticed someone had hacked into his Facebook account and posted a blasphemous message. Later, after realizing what had happened, he posted a video on the platform explaining to his followers that it wasn't him who produced the content.

But an angry mob of roughly 100 people had already formed and destroyed everything inside Todary's family home in Ashnin El-Nasara, a village in Minya, south of Cairo. Fady's parents were forced to flee their son's home and seek refuge at a relative's residence.

Just a few days later, Todary was arrested, along with his 19-year-old brother and two uncles. He has since been released but is awaiting trial on blasphemy charges.
