US Navy Drops Afghanistan Detainee Abuse Charges Against 4 SEALs
[MIL.com] SAN DIEGO -- The U.S. Navy has dropped charges against four SEALs involving alleged abuse of detainees in Afghanistan in 2012.

Navy Region Southwest commander Rear Adm. Bette Bolivar announced Tuesday the dismissal of charges against Lt. Jason Webb, Chief Petty Officers David Swarts and Xavier Silva, and Petty Officer 1st Class Daniel D'Ambrosio.

"Military prosecutors informed Admiral Bolivar that the evidence from the 2012 case has degraded to the point where they believe obtaining convictions is no longer likely," a Navy statement said.

Swarts' defense attorney Colby Vokey told The San Diego Union-Tribune the dismissal was long overdue.

-War on Police-
Andrew Cuomo blames cops getting pelted with water buckets, belittles ‘impotent’ NYPD as wimps
Whose stupid rules of engagement were they abiding by, pray tell?
[BIZPACREVIEW] Andrew Sonny Cuomo, the Democratic governor of New York State, slammed NYC coppers for being restrained when street thugs pelted them with buckets and doused them with water two weeks ago.

There were four separate incidents in Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, where thugs pelted NYC cops with water, and threw buckets at the officers’ heads. Cuomo says the cops should have fought back when they were assaulted instead of walking away.
He would be one of the first and loudest demanding their firings if they did. Lying F'n Hypocrite
Naturally, Cuomo ignores that the Democratic Party’s nonstop anti-police rhetoric has emboldened criminals and handcuffed cops’ ability to react properly, especially where minorities are involved.

Police are afraid of being falsely accused of racism and being fired, doxxed, and sued for "discrimination" simply for doing their jobs.

Cuomo told WAMC radio in Albany, New York that the NYPD officers who walked away when they were being doused with water were "impotent." He also called the numerous water-assault incidents "one of the most disturbing and embarrassing actions I’ve seen."

Cuomo placed the blame on NYC’s Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. He has a preppy-looking son named Dante, whose Divine Comedy involved getting his back hair up when a police car drove past him slowly...
(who has long promoted anti-police rhetoric) and the NYPD itself.

"I look to the training and the policies of the police department that would’ve instructed them to act that way," Cuomo said. "The training has to be, you don’t turn around and get back in the car and drive away. You literally make law enforcement ineffective and impotent, and that hurts everyone."

Really? Explain then why India stations police from from one part of the country, in areas that they don't originate from? On one of my first trips to India I noticed that the various police stations had housing compounds adjacent to them.

I asked my wife what the deal was, she said that the police stationed there were all from other parts of the country, that way they didn't have any relationship or attachment to the local populace and therefore no compunction against cracking heads. Do you think that is a good thing?

#13  What I meant was that the recruitment and selection policies often carry within them stipulations that want pansy boy scouts instead of sheep dogs. Indian police have their own shortcomings, but they can be depended upon to break heads because nobody will even slap their wrists after.

Of course, Panda. It would be a good thing if that was the city police. It was the paramilitary units (central reserve police force) that you saw stationed. The regular LE is always done by local PDs.

Only in matters of emergency, or for guarding an event or gathering are the CRPF mobilized. In India they're always busy, either guarding tourists/visiting dignitaries or kicking down doors in case of domestic terror. And the rationale you gave is correct, plus the legally tactical advantage in the language divide. A great linguistic chasm that allows for ;

The Grand Turk
Turkey, US Agree to Establish Joint Operation Center for N. Syria
[AAWSAT] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
and the United States have agreed to establish a joint operation center to manage tensions between a US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Ottoman Turkish forces in northern Syria, Ankara said Wednesday.

The announcement came after three days of tense negotiations with US officials hoping to forestall a Ottoman Turkish attack on the YPG, which controls large swathes of northern Syria.

Turkey sees the YPG as a terrorist offshoot of the Kurdish PKK, which has fought a bloody insurgency inside its territory for the past 35 years.

The defense ministry said in a statement that Ankara had agreed with US officials to "implement without delay the first measures aimed at eliminating Turkey's concerns.

"In that framework, to quickly create in Turkey a joint operation center to coordinate and manage the implementation of the safe zone with the US."

Ankara has stepped up threats in recent days to launch an offensive against the YPG.

That put the United States in a difficult position as a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
ally of Turkey but also a supporter of the YPG as its main frontline partner against the ISIS group.

All sides agree that a buffer zone is needed to keep the YPG away from Turkey's borders, but they have differed on how large it should be, or who should control it.

The defense ministry said Turkey's ultimate aim was to create a "peace corridor" that can "ensure that our Syrian brothers will be able to return to their country".

#1  The Kurds are the ones who helped the US defeat ISIS.
The Kurds spilled their blood and guts so the US soldiers did not have to spill theirs.
That makes the Kurds better allies than Nato countries like Germany and even Britain.
The Kurds have made Turkey jealous because they have seized territory back that ISIS took from Syria and from Iraq.
And Turkey knows the Kurds on their southern border could even take territory from its own country.
Erdogan feels threatened because his grip on power is tenuous.
With Turkey's cross border invasions of Syria and Iraq the US has had to withdraw to avoid conflict.
Since the Kurds have had to defend themselves from attacks by Turkey's allies the Kurds have not been able to keep ISIS from coming back.
The result of Turkey's meddling in Syria is shown in today's article:
"ISIS ‘resurging’ in Syria as US pulls troops: watchdog"
Of course Turkey is not at all concerned about ISIS being on its border unlike the Kurds because ISIS are Sunni.
Turkey is responsible for ISIS coming to power on its southern border.
ISIS was able to operate from inside Turkey's borders and freely transit fighters and supplies into northern Syria.
Turkey has used ISIS as an excuse to get involved in Syria itself.
Iranian and Turkish meddling in Syria made Russia envious.
The US (and Israel) has been the only country standing in the way of Iran, Russia and Turkey from having their way in Syria.
I am praying for a "popcorn time" outcome for these three despised countries.
I hope in the end these three greedy countries turn on each other or that they just decay from within from the corruption.

A senior government official told Dawn that a US delegation was in Islamabad to have an independent assessment of steps, actions and measures identified during the Florida meetings of the FATF in June this year and the progress made by Pakistain since then.

The delegation comprising Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Ambassador Alice G. Wells, US Treasury officials Scott Rembrandt, Grant Vickers, David Galbraith and others also met Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on Tuesday.

"The adviser briefed the visiting delegation on the measures pertaining to economic reforms being undertaken by the Government of Pakistain to ensure economic discipline, efforts being made towards implementation of FATF Action Plan and the key challenges being faced," said an official statement.

The official, who has been part of Pakistain’s team interacting with the FATF and Asia Pacific Group (APG) over the past year, said Islamabad had taken significant steps since the FATF meetings in June. He said the international partners helped Islamabad engage foreign consultants to support and prepare key stakeholders such as Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistain (SECP), National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta), State Bank of Pakistain (SBP) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take actions and formulate reports keeping in view the international perspective.

Pakistan urged to move beyond diplomatic support for occupied Kashmir
[DAWN] Demonstrations were held across Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) for the second consecutive day on Tuesday to condemn India’s move to scrap the special status of held Kashmire on the one hand and refresh calls to Pakistain to take "bold steps" on the other.

In Muzaffarabad, participants of a rally marched from Azadi Chowk near the press club to an army installation, which houses the offices of the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
Military Observers, near Domel, at the confluence of rivers Neelum and Jhelum.

Holding black flags, banners and placards, many of the protesters staged a sit-in outside the army installation to express indignation against the Indian move.

While shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans, they also called upon the UN to play its due role in held Kashmire.

"This world cannot afford to have another Paleostine, and we will not let it happen either," said Aziz Ahmed, a 32-year-old participant, alluding to a widely prevailing perception that the Hindu-nationalist BJP government had been seeking guidelines from Israel to render Kashmiri Moslems homeless in their own home on the pattern of the Paleostinians.

"The UN must intervene to stop India from going ahead with its ghastly plans in the disputed region of Kashmire," he added.

Many also called upon Islamabad to go beyond offering "mere" moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmire.

UN chief warns against rising tensions between nuclear-armed states
[DAWN] UN Secretary General António Guterres warned on Tuesday the world against rising tensions between nuclear-armed states, as a powerful American newspaper pointed out that tensions in Kashmire were more menacing now than ever before as both India and Pakistain possessed weapons of mass destruction.

Also, an international advocacy group ‐ Human Rights Watch ‐ noted that basic freedoms were at risk in the Indian Kashmiree where Indian authorities had arrested politicians and severed communication lines.

As the news of India revoking Kashmire’s special status sank-in, Kashmiris from both sides of the Line of Control gathered at a restaurant near Washington on Monday night to exchange notes on how to contact their relatives trapped in the valley.

"Today, we are sadly witnessing a worsening international security environment," said the UN Secretary General in his message on the 74th anniversary of the 1945 nuclear attacks on Japan. "Tensions between the nuclear-armed States are rising. The disarmament and arms-control institutions, that have made the world a more secure place for decades, are being called into question," Mr Guterres warned. The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, in its main editorial piece on Tuesday, directly addressed the threat of a nuclear conflict in South Asia.

"Rival claims to Kashmire have led to two wars and frequent eruptions of violence and terrorism over the past seven decades, made all the more menacing by the nuclear arsenals of India and Pakistain," it warned.

"The Indian government’s decision to revoke the semi-autonomous status of Kashmire, accompanied by a huge security clampdown, is dangerous and wrong. Bloodshed is all but certain, and tension with Pakistain will soar."

Judge irked by absence of witnesses in Naqeeb murder case
"Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! Da witnesses is all dead!"
[DAWN] KARACHI: Expressing its annoyance over the absence of prosecution witnesses, an antiterrorism court on Tuesday directed the investigating officer to produce them on Aug 19 for recording their testimonies in a case pertaining to killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud and three others in an alleged ’staged’ encounter.

The then SSP Malir Rao Anwar, the then DSP Qamar Ahmed Sheikh along with around 25 of their subordinates have been charged with kidnapping for ransom Naseebullah Mehsud, better known as Naqeebullah, and three others and killing them in a fake encounter by declaring them bandidos snuffies linked with the banned ISIS and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

The killing of Naqeebullah, an aspiring model from Wazoo, and others in Shah Latif Town had sparked a wave of nationwide protests by human rights

activists.

On Tuesday, the ATC-III judge was set to record the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses, including the complainant. However the witnesses failed to turn up before the court.

Advocate Salahuddin Panhwar informed that complainant Mohammad Khan, the father of deceased Naqeebullah, could not appear before the court to record his statement since he was ill.

The judge directed the investigating officer, SSP Dr Rizwan Ahmed, to ensure the presence of the complainant and other witnesses on the next date for recording their testimonies and fixed the matter on Aug 19.

The judge also directed the state prosecutor and complainant’s counsel Salahuddin Panhwar to argue on the bail applications moved by two former police officials ‐ assistant sub-inspector Ali Akbar and police constable Raees ‐ on the next date.

Khan Mohammad had lodged a case against the then SSP Rao Anwar and his subordinates under Sections 365-A (kidnapping for ransom), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 344 (wrongful confinement for 10 or more days), 302 (premeditated murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender), 202 (intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistain Penal Code read with Section 7 (acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

A second case was also lodged against Rao Anwar and others by the former IO for allegedly foisting false recoveries of illicit arms, ammunition and explosives on the victims under relevant sections of the law.

Iraq
Iraqi government plans to disarm civilians
[Rudaw] Iraq's Ministry of Interior is drawing up new weapons regulations that will severely limit the number of institutions and individuals who can apply to carry guns.

Civiliam gun ownership in Iraq is common. Many guns flooded onto the market following the 2003 US invasion.

"Selling guns has becoming common practice since many weapons in Iraqi military camps were taken away by the public when the camps were dismantled," said Gomaa al-Atwani, an Iraqi military expert.

These proposals build on legal regulation drafted in August 2018, allowing a member of the public to purchase firearms only after they received official authorization and an ID card detailing their private information, along with the types of weapons they already own.

Iraq's current regulations allow citizens to apply to purchase guns if they feel a real security threat. Most Iraqi families bought at least one automatic weapon to defend themselves as hard boy groups raged post-war.

But the overflow of guns has made it difficult to maintain Iraq's public order. Gun battles between tribes are common, and in some areas where gangs are active, gunshots can be heard even during the day.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called a hurried meeting of his closest advisors. It was to be his last. They discussed the officers's efficiency rating system...
the Iraqi government intends to gradually collect guns from the public and draw a clear line between military units and civilians.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian who saved Jewish kids after terror attack gets Israeli residency
[IsraelTimes] Man forced to flee West Bank after death threats for rescuing children of murdered Rabbi Miki Mark at scene of 2016 attack; has been homeless, living in limbo in Israel.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri on Tuesday awarded Israeli residency to a Paleostinian man who saved the children of a West Bank rabbi in the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in which the father was killed.

Rabbi Miki Mark was murdered in a July 1, 2016, shooting. His wife, Chava, was maimed, and their two teenage children were also hurt. The Paleostinian rescuer and his wife, residents of the Hebron area, helped the surviving members of the Mark family escape their overturned vehicle and administered first aid until first responders arrived at the scene.

The Paleostinian man, who has not been named, received a temporary visa to live and work in Israel after receiving death threats in his hometown near the West Bank city of Hebron.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the visa was not renewed in August 2018 and for the last year he was unable to work, becoming homeless and living in limbo in Israel.

After his plight was revealed recently in a Channel 12 report, and following a campaign by several Israelis, including settler leaders, he was awarded Israeli residency on Tuesday, along with his wife and son.

While presenting him his identity documents, Deri praised him for his "selfless, noble" actions and said he would now be able to begin a new life in Israel.

The residency entitles him to a work permit and social benefits, Deri said.

West Bank settler leader Yossi Dagan, the head of the Samaria Regional Council, who had campaigned for the Paleostinian to be given residency, said it was the "moral and righteous thing to do for a man who risked his life to save Jews."

Three years ago the Paleostinian man described what happened at the scene of the terror attack.

After he managed to pry one of the doors open, the man said he pulled 14-year-old Tehila Mark from the wrecked car. He said his wife, who is a medical doctor, worked to stanch the bleeding from the teen’s abdominal wound while he called an ambulance.

"She was telling them in English, ’Do not be afraid, we are here to help you,’" he recalled.

The man said he then removed 15-year-old Pedaya Mark from the car, and attempted to calm him.

"I took the boy and I hugged him. I gave him some water and applied iodine, and just kept telling him that everything was going to be fine," he said. "It doesn’t matter to me if it was an accident or a terror attack, it’s irrelevant. These are people, children, who need help, and if I can help, I will help them.

"The girl told me, ’God sent an Arab to help us,’" he added.

US, UK warn against escalating sectarianism in Lebanon
“That’ll fix the problem, Nigel. Shall I send out for tea, or will you join me in a whiskey?”
[ARABNEWS] The US Embassy in Leb warned that "any attempt to exploit the tragic incident that took place in Kabreshmoun on June 30 to promote political objectives must be rejected."

The statement comes during Leb’s escalating political crisis, which has been ongoing for more than two months.

The crisis has peaked during the last 48 hours, where efforts aimed at reaching a political consensus on the judicial measures for the Kabreshmoun shooting have failed.

There was open confrontation between the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) and the Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
(FPM), with the PSP including the Lebanese President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah

and the judiciary in its accusations.

"The US supports a fair and transparent judicial review free of any political influence. We clearly expressed to the Lebanese authorities that they are expected to handle the incident in a manner that achieves justice without inciting sectarian and regional conflicts with political backgrounds," said the US Embassy.

"Leb’s stability is a priority to us," said Britannia’s Ambassador to Leb Chris Rampling as he visited Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
"We urge everyone to focus on economic development at this stage. The adoption of the state budget was an important first step but still needs a lot of work," Rampling added.

The shooting took place when the head of the FPM, Gebran Bassil, visited the site of massacres between Christians and Druze during the civil war.

Supporters of the PSP staged protests to prevent the visit, triggering a shootout after the arrival of the minister of the displaced, Saleh al-Gharib. Two of his bodyguards were killed.

Minister al-Gharib is a member of the PSP’s rival party and an ally of Hezbollah and the Syrian regime.

The incident received significant political and judicial attention, which has paralyzed the government for over a month. The PSP accused the FPM of wanting to eliminate it by pressuring the military judiciary to manipulate the investigation.

Aoun affirmed his "commitment to the judiciary, which has the authority to act firmly and punish according to the laws," as he received a youth delegation on Wednesday.

Berri said that he "will not allow anything that could divide the Lebanese people," and that "political, security and financial stability is required from everyone, as international financial institutions are concerned about Leb’s situation.
