Afghanistan vows to crush Islamic State havens after attack
[DAWN] Afghanistan's president on Monday vowed to "eliminate" all safe havens of the bad boy Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group as the country marked a subdued 100th Independence Day after a horrific wedding attack claimed by the local IS affiliate.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
's comments came as Afghanistan mourns at least 63 people, including children, killed in the Kabul bombing at a wedding hall late on Saturday night. Close to 200 others were maimed.

Many outraged Afghans ask whether an approaching deal between the United States and the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
to end nearly 18 years of fighting America's longest war will bring peace to long-suffering civilians. The bomber detonated his explosives in the middle of a dancing crowd, and the IS affiliate later said he had targeted a gathering of minority Shias, whom it views as apostates deserving of death.

Both the bride and groom survived, and in an emotional interview with local broadcaster Tolo News the distraught groom, Mirwais Alani, said their lives were devastated within seconds.

A sharply worded Taliban statement questioned why the US failed to identify the attackers in advance. Another Taliban statement marking the independence day said to "leave Afghanistan to the Afghans". More than anything in its nearly year-long negotiations with the US, the Taliban want some 20,000 US and allied forces to withdraw from the country.

The US envoy in talks with the Taliban, Zalmay Khalilzad, on Sunday said the grinding of the peace processor should be accelerated to help Afghanistan defeat the IS affiliate.

Kabul Attack: Surviving Groom Says He Was ‘Devastated Forever’
[ToloNews] The surviving groom, Mirwais Alani, says the tragic incident has taken all his happiness and joy forever.
"I never even got the dowry"
He did get the girl, though — that has to count for something.
An Afghan groom whose wedding ceremony was hit by a suicide kaboom in Kabul on Saturday evening says the tragedy has taken happiness from his life forever.

Interior Ministry says 63 people were killed and more than 180 others were maimed in the blast claimed by ISIS.

The blast happened at around 11:40 pm when the elders were attending the Nikah ceremony and female guests were having dinner, eyewitnesses said.

Mirwais Alani, 26, who was engaged with Roeena, 18, seven months ago, worked for months to celebrate his wedding.

"I would have never organized this ceremony if I knew that such an incident happens," Mr. Alani said.

"I was supposed to return happy, but within span of two hours, they devastated my whole life. They devastated my life within seconds," he added.

Mr. Alani said the government has failed to provide security to the people.

"We had done nothing wrong to anyone, but our lives were devastated," the groom added.

His brother, Basir, said described the attack horrific and said he heard a huge blast sound at first and then he saw that three everyone was on the ground.

"People work day and night to make their lives, but the things go like this and their wishes and dreams are ruined," the groom’s relative Mohammad Aref said.

The bride’s 11-year-old brother was also killed in the attack.

Despite that, Mirwais and Roeena have tied the knot and they have to live together with the bitter memories.

blamed the govt, not ISIS

for some years Moslem victims of Islamic terroism used to say, "this could not have been due to Islam" or denounced the terrorists as twisters of doctrine but now perhaps everybody realizes that, for example ISIS, is just one of a number of standard products of Islam

Libyan Navy Says More than 300 Migrants Rescued
[AnNahar] The Libyan navy said Sunday 335 migrants colonists had been rescued and one body recovered in separate operations off the coast, as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe

Nine children were among 57 migrants colonists in a wooden boat rescued Saturday about 40 nautical miles from the town of Zuwara, west of Tripoli

, navy front man General Ayoub Kacem told AFP.

He said they were from Æthiopia and Egypt.

It came days after Libyan navy patrols on Tuesday "rescued 278 migrants colonists on board four inflatable boats northwest and northeast of Tripoli", Kacem added.

The operations took place off the coasts of the cities of Khoms, 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Tripoli, and Sabratha, located 70 kilometers west of the capital.

According to the statement, 128 Sudanese were in the boats, in addition to migrants colonists from Chad, Egypt, Niger, Benin and Eritrea

Zintan Revolutionary Gathering rejects "the coup" of the interim government
[Libya Observer] The Revolutionary Gathering of Zintan reiterated in a statement on Sunday, its rejection to "the coup attempt" by Abdullah Thini's government against the legitimate bodies, by appointing a steering council to replace the elected municipal council of the city.

The statement described the attempt as a failure and held al-Thini the legal and social responsibility for sowing discord among the people of Zintan.

They also underscored their determination to defend their democratic choice and their right to vote.

Al-Thini issued a decision in late July, in which he replaced the elected councils of several municipalities including Zintan city with other appointed steering councils.

Bangladesh
Bangladesh ready to repatriate 3,500 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar
[AlAhram] Some 3,500 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh have been cleared to return home to Myanmar beginning this week, a top official said Monday, nearly two years after a military crackdown sparked their exodus.

Some 740,000 Rohingya fled to Bangladesh in August 2017 from a military offensive in Myanmar -- joining 200,000 already there -- but virtually none have volunteered to return despite the countries signing a repatriation deal.

Bangladesh refugee commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam, however, said he was "optimistic" about a new repatriation process scheduled to start on Thursday.

A previous attempt in November 2018 to return 2,260 Rohingya failed after they refused to leave the camp without guarantees for their safety.

"Everything is ready... the land transit point has been prepared," Kalam told news hounds after a meeting with Myanmar officials in Cox's Bazar, southeast Bangladesh, where the refugees live in vast camps.

"Nobody will be forced to return unless they volunteer," he said.

Bangladesh and Myanmar officials plan to repatriate 300 Rohingya each day, with some 3,500 refugees cleared to make the journey home, Kalam said.

The new push follows a visit last month to the camps by high-ranking officials from Myanmar led by Permanent Foreign Secretary Myint Thu.

Sunday will mark the second anniversary of the crackdown that sparked the mass exodus to the Bangladesh camps.

Kalam said Myanmar and United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
officials were meeting with selected refugees on Tuesday to encourage them to return to Rakhine state.

The Rohingya, who are mostly Moslem, are not recognised as an official minority by the Myanmar government which considers them Bengali interlopers despite many families having lived in Rakhine for generations.

Europe
EU Boosts Aid for Bosnia to Manage Migrant Influx
[AnNahar] The EU on Monday pledged 10 million euros in fresh aid to help Bosnia manage an influx of migrants colonists crossing its territory to reach Western Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
The money will be used to build new reception centers and provide other services including "food and accommodation, access to water sanitation and hygiene" to the roughly 7,400 migrants colonists currently based in the Balkan state, the EU delegation said in a statement.

Since 2018 Bosnia has become a key transit country on a route funneling migrants colonists west to the border with EU member state Croatia.

The migrants colonists, some 36,000 of whom have entered Bosnia in that time, hail mainly from countries in the Middle East, Asia and North Africa.

While most eventually manage to continue their journey westward, pushbacks by Croatian police are common, leaving many marooned in Bosnia for long periods.

Poor and paralyzed by a fractured government, Bosnia has struggled to provide adequate support.

The construction of new reception centers is a contentious political issue in the Balkan state, where the influx of migrants colonists has caused tensions with some local communities.

The largest centers are currently based in the northwest, in the towns of Bihac and Velika Kladusa.

Bosnia's Serb-run half, meanwhile, refuses to build any reception centers on its territory.

In June, authorities in Bihac and Red Thingy officials set up a new camp in Vucjak, the site of a former landfill ten kilometers from the city.

The EU refused to finance the center which it criticized for being too close to minefields.

Some 800 migrants colonists are currently staying there in ramshackle tents and with deplorable facilities.

"We are once again confronted with the increased arrival of migrants colonists and refugees, which makes it increasingly difficult to ensure normal conditions for stay in this temporary camp," local Red Thingy official, Selam Midzic, said Monday according to Fena news agency.

Great White North
Canada slams UK for stripping ISIS jihadist of British citizenship
More on this story from yesterday.
[NYPOST] Canada is accusing the UK of shirking its responsibilities in counterterrorism by stripping the British citizenship from an ISIS fighter known as Jihadi Jack, who also has Canadian citizenship.

Jack Letts, 24, a Moslem convert who traveled from Oxfordshire to Syria when he was 18 to join ISIS, has begged to be allowed to return to the UK after he was captured by the Kurds in 2017.

He insisted that he had "no intention" of killing Britons, but was declared an "enemy of Britannia" and stripped of his citizenship ‐ meaning he is Canada’s responsibility, according to the Telegraph.

"Canada is disappointed that the United Kingdom has taken this unilateral action to off-load their responsibilities," Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said, the news outlet reported.

The British Home Office said revoking citizenship was one way the UK counters terror threats.

"Decisions on depriving a dual national of citizenship are based on substantial advice from officials, lawyers and the intelligence agencies and all available information," the office said in a statement.

Letts, who has been held in a Kurdish prison for two years, told ITV in February that he wanted to return to Britannia because he considered it his home.

In 2015, he posted on Facebook that he would like to perform a "martyrdom operation" on a group of British soldiers.

India-Pakistan
Opposition parties hold multi-party conference on Maulana Fazlur Rehman's call
[DAWN] A multiparty conference of the opposition went underway in Islamabad around Monday noon.

The conference, which was called and is being hosted by Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one that was led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spent more time running his madrassah until his secretary rubbed him out in a jealous rage. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...
-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
...Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty...
, is being attended by leaders and members of most opposition parties. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
PPP co-chairmen Asif Ali Ten Percent Zardari
...husband of the late Benazir Bhutto, who has been singularly lacking in curiosity about who done her in...
and Bilawal Baby Bhutto Zardari
...Pak dynastic politician, son of Benazir Bhutto and grandon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. As far as is known, Bilawal has no particular talents other than being pretty and being able to memorize political slogans, but he had the good luck to be born into the right family and he hasn't been assassinated yet...
, and PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif are not in attendance.

Commenting on the key leaders' absence, Special Adviser to Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan tweeted to say that the PPP and PML-N had yet again 'played' Rehman by not showing up.

The prime minister's adviser said that Rehman's time would be better spent condemning the atrocities in Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
rather than finding common ground the the two leading opposition parties.

Iraq
Dance parties return to Baghdad
[DAWN] Members of rival Iraqi biker gangs, clad in studded leather and black berets, burst out of their semi-circles to break dance, their tattoo-covered arms waving neon glowsticks.

The Mongols Motorcycle Club dance circle was one of several at the Riot Gear Summer Rush event, a car show and concert held at a sports stadium in the heart of Baghdad.

The scene was a far cry from the usual images broadcast from the city of violence and mayhem. But nearly two years since Iraq declared victory over the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, the capital has been quietly remaking its image.

Since the blast walls ‐ a feature of the capital since a US-led invasion in 2003 toppled Saddam Hussein ‐ started coming down, a less restrictive way of life has emerged.

"We held this party so people can know that Iraq has this kind of culture, and has these kinds of people who love life and music," said Arshad Haybat, a 30-year-old film director who founded the Riot Gear events company.

Riot Gear has thrown similar parties in Iraq before, but Friday’s was the first open to the public. The day started with young men showing off imported muscle cars and cycle of violences. By nightfall, it had turned into a pulsating electronic dance music (EDM) show.

Iraqi hip-hop collective Tribe of Monsters played a mix of EDM and Trap music as young men, clasping elaborate vape pens, danced through strobe lights and smoke machines, livestreaming their moves on Snapchat and Instagram.

It was a heady mix of Baghdad’s burgeoning subcultures: bikers, gamers, EDM enthusiasts. What most had in common was they’d never been to a party like this in Iraq.

"We have only ever seen this kind of concert on TV and films," said 21-year-old Mustafa Osama. "I can’t describe my feelings to see such a thing in Iraq."

, a senior Israeli official told news hounds accompanying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his current trip to Ukraine.

According to various tweets from news hounds on the trip, the official said that Jerusalem was in contact with other countries -- including in the Mideast -- to see if they would be willing to absorb them. The official noted that more than 35,000 Gazooks left the area last year.

According to the official, Israel is willing to finance flights from an airport in the south for those who are interested in leaving. The official said so far no country has responded positively to taking people in from Gaza..

According to an NPR report last month, between 35,000 to 40,000 people have left Gaza via Egypt since Egypt opened its border with Gaza in May 2018, and allows in a few hundred Gazooks each day.

According to these reports, some of those leaving Gaza via Egypt then fly to the Gulf, others stay in Egypt, while still others fly to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
has fired all of his advisers, his office says today, amid a financial crisis in the West Bank that has prompted deep salary cuts.

Abbas’s office doesn’t provide further details on the number of advisers or the costs involved, pointing only to a brief statement issued through official Paleostinian news agency WAFA.

The move comes amid a spending crunch following Israel’s decision in February to withhold around $10 million a month in tax transfers.

Israel collects some $190 million a month in customs duties levied on goods destined for Paleostinian markets that transit through its ports. It then transfers the money to the Paleostinian government.

The amount it deducted ‐ $138 million for the year ‐ corresponds to what Israel says the Paleostinian Authority paid Death Eaters in Israeli prisons, or their families, in 2018.

Abbas has accused Israel of blackmail and refused to take any of the tax transfers, which account for some 65 percent of PA revenues.

The PA has cut salaries for most its tens of thousands of employees by half to keep the government afloat.

Iran says it has warned US against seizing oil tanker
[DAWN] Tehran said on Monday that it has warned Washington against making another attempt to seize an Iranian tanker that has departed Gibraltar despite a United States bid to have it detained.

"Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has given necessary warnings to American officials through its official channels [...] not to make such a mistake because it would have grave consequences," Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi told a news conference.

Iran had been locked in a high-seas standoff with US ally Britannia since Royal Marines seized the tanker off the coast of UK territory Gibraltar on July 4 on suspicion it was shipping oil to Syria in breach of EU sanctions.

#1  It's funny how countries like Iran think they are really big boys on the world stage.

#2  They peddle the belief that the "Hidden Iman" will appear and everyone will die and go to hell except the Shiites who practice the "proper beliefs" Considering the inbreeding and boredom of most of the young males it is an easy sell.

#3  They're completely nuts. I understand the men shave their entire bodies before suicide missions so they won't offend their 72 virgins in jannah. Not sure about the women.

Bahrain joins US-led naval security mission in Gulf
[IsraelTimes] Bahrain announces it is joining a US-led naval mission in the Persian Gulf to guarantee maritime security following a string of attacks on ships attributed to Iran.

According to the official Bahrain News Agency, King Hamad
...King of Bahrain (since 14 February 2002), having previously been its emir (from 6 March 1999). He is a Sunni, while the rest of Bahrain is predominantly Shiite...
bin Isa al-Khalifa confirmed the kingdom’s participation in the mission during a meeting with US CENTCOM commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie.

The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet is based in Bahrain.

With its announcement, Bahrain becomes the first Arab country to join the US mission and second overall after the United Kingdom.

Bahrain, the smallest of the Gulf Arab states, is a close US ally and hostile toward Iran, which it has accused of trying to stir unrest among its majority Shiite population.
