Afghanistan
US envoy shows Afghan president draft Taliban deal
[DAWN] The US ambassador leading efforts to forge a deal with the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
met Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
in Kabul on Monday and showed him the draft of a proposed agreement with the bad boys.

Zalmay Khalilzad has spent about a year meeting the Taliban in Doha in a series of talks aimed at ending America’s 18-year-old war in Afghanistan.

The prospective deal centres on a US troop reduction in return for several security guarantees from the Taliban, as well as broader peace talks between the Death Eaters and the Afghan government and an eventual ceasefire.

Mr Khalilzad ‐ a former US ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq ‐ arrived in the Afghan capital on Sunday evening following a ninth round of talks with the Taliban in the Qatar

i capital.

He met Mr Ghani then and on Monday he showed the Afghan leader a draft of the US-Taliban agreement, officials said.

The discussions are significant because the Afghan government has until now been largely sidelined from talks, though any eventual deal would require the Taliban to talk to Mr Ghani, whom they view as a US stooge.

Hamdok says expecting Sudan’s delisting from terror list
[Sudan Tribune] Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok on Tuesday announced they had reached substantial understandings with the U.S. administration on removing Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism."

"There have been great understandings with the U.S. administration about removing Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and we have made significant progress," he told a joint news conference with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

"We are expecting a big breakthrough that will lead to removing Sudan from the terror list," he stressed before to add. "It is a convenient circumstance."

On October 6, 2017, the Trump administration lifted economic sanctions and a trade embargo imposed on Sudan since 1997.

But Washington still puts Sudan on the terror list since 1993. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the purpose of the designation moved from sanctions against harbouring al Qaeda leaders to force Khartoum to open humanitarian access to civilians in war-affected civilians, to ensure freedoms and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
Nonetheless, Washington says they intend to keep the sanctions on Sudan but will encourage other nations to support it.

on 27 August 2019, a U.S. bigwig underscored that Sudan’s removal from the blacklist alone, will not be enough pointing to the resolutions the U.S. Congress passed in the past on Darfur stressing they need to be reviewed and amended because they impose restrictions on the U.S. administration.

The State Department official was referring to the ’Darfur Peace and Accountability Act of 2006 and the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007.

"I discussed with the German foreign minister the challenges the government is going to face in Sudan during the transitional period," Hamdok said.

Tunisia court upholds continued detention of presidential candidate
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Tunisian appeals court on Tuesday upheld the detention of media magnate Nabil Karoui, a candidate in a Sept. 15 presidential election, on suspicion of tax fraud and money laundering, his lawyer said.

Karoui had sought to be freed, but the court "rejected the demand to release" him, the lawyer Kamel Ben Massoud told Rooters without giving details or further comment.

Last Saturday, the head of the country’s electoral commission said Karoui remains in the race for Tunisia’s upcoming presidential election despite his arrest for alleged money laundering.

‘Consular access won’t change Jadhav’s sentence’
[DAWN] Barrister Khawar Qureshi, the Pak counsel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, said on Monday that the consular access granted to the Indian spy will have no effect on the conviction under espionage and terrorism charges.

the ICJ in its decision in fact held that the review by the Pak court was acceptable. He explained that after the grant of consular access, Jadhav could now do what India should have done after the conviction, which was invoking his right to appeal under Article 199.

Babri mosque litigant Iqbal Ansari 'threatened' to withdraw case
[DAWN] One of the main litigants of the Babri mosque case in India, Iqbal Ansari, was allegedly physically assaulted at his residence in Ayodhya on Tuesday, The Wire reported.

The Wire quoted Ansari as saying that he was asked by two people to withdraw the case. The alleged attackers threatened to kill him if he failed to fulfil the demand. The two alleged attackers were warded off by Ansari's security personnel.

The Wire report, citing Press Trust of India, said that the two attackers, a man and a woman, came to Ansari's house on Tuesday afternoon.

“The woman introduced herself as Vartika Singh and claimed that she was an international shooter. They asked me to withdraw my claim from the dispute, threatening that she would otherwise shoot me,” said the report, quoting Ansari.

Faizabad Superintendent of Police Vijay Pal Singh told PTI, the two have been "detained by police" and he will "let them know" when a case has been filed.

The development came as the Supreme Court of India was hearing responses by two people for allegedly threatening Rajeev Dhavan, who is representing the Sunni Waqf Board and other Muslim parties in the dispute.

Netanyahu was close to attacking Iran in 2012 despite Obama - NYT

Israel launched drones into Iran from Azerbaijan and the United States held a practice bombing run on a mock nuclear facility in the western US as part of plans both countries had to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear capability back in 2012.

The revelations came as part of aNew York Times expose on Israeli and American efforts in recent years to stop Iran’s race to a bomb.

In an interview, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel was close to attacking Iran in 2012 but stopped after he did not have enough support in his cabinet. An Israeli strike, he said, "was not a bluff ‐ it was real. And only because it was real were the Americans truly worried about it."

"If I’d had a majority, I would have done it," he told the NYT. "Unequivocally."

According to the report, Ehud Barak, then Israel’s defense minister, was invited to the Pentagon and shown a highly-classified video by Leon Panetta, the secretary of defense, of an American strike ‐ using a massive 30,000 pound bomb ‐ to destroy a replica of Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility. Barak was reportedly impressed by the show.

According to the report, the Obama administration sent a senior official to Israel every few weeks to "Bibisit" and try to stop Israel from attacking.

"It did not escape our understanding that having a visit of a senior American official on the calendar probably bought you a couple of weeks ‐ before the visit and then after the visit," Dan Shapiro, the former American ambassador to Israel told the Times. "For an Israeli official, it meant you knew you could not strike without feeling that you’ve deceived somebody while they were sitting in your office."

[ALMASDARNEWS] A senior Syrian politician said this week that Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
has in his recent visit to Russia made big compromises over Idlib.

Safwan al-Qorbi, the representative for the Idlib Governorate in the Syrian parliament, told the Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper on Monday that Erdogan is in a bottleneck politically on the situation of Idlib.
