Lalmonirhat mob lynching: 5 more arrested
[Dhaka Tribune] Police arrested five more people for their involvement with the brutal murder of Abu Yunus Md Shahidunnabi Jewel in Lalmonirhat.

Including them, a total of 21 people have so far been arrested in the three cases filed over the mob lynching incident in Burimari union of Lalmonirhat's Patgram, where the poor man was lynched and immolated over rumours of Koran desecration.

The arrestees are identified as Motahar Hossain, 19, Rabiul Islam, 40, Hasem Ali, 52, Ariful Islam, 17 and Lazu, 35, confirmed Suman Kumar Mahanta, officer-in-charge of Patgram cop shoppe.

They were arrested from different areas of the district after conducting drives, the OC said.

"They were sent to jail after being produced before the court," said OC Suman.

Of the arrestees, two are accused in the murder case while three were arrested after scrutinising the video footage, OC Suman added.

On October 29, Abu Yunus Md Shahidunnabi Jewel, 50, was beaten to death by an angry mob at the Burimari Union Gay Pareehad premises in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The mob then took his body some 300 metres away to the Prothom Bashkol area on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway and set it on fire, fuelled with dried materials, tyres, and petrol.

Over a thousand people were present during the incident, including people from outside Lalmonirhat, as rumours of Koran desecration spread, according to Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kamrun Nahar.

On October 31, the dear departed’s cousin Saiful Alam filed a case naming 43 persons and hundreds unknown, Burimari Union Gay Pareehad Chairman Abu Syed Newaz Nishat filed another case naming 22 persons and hundreds unknown while Patgram cop shoppe Sub Inspector (SI) Md Shahjahan filed yet another case.

Two probe committees - one by the district administration and another by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) - were formed to investigate the incident.

During the ongoing investigation by the NHRC, its director of investigation Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir, on Sunday said they have not yet found any proof of Koran desecration.

#3  Diplomacy? I didn't even think they knew how to spell the word let alone know what it means.

Of course, Twitter personnel are fighting over who can remove that post first.

Malawi says it will open Israel embassy in Jerusalem
[AlAhram] Malawi said on Tuesday it will open a full embassy to Israel in Jerusalem, becoming the first African nation to do so in the contested city.

In a video statement during a visit to Israel, Malawi Foreign Minister Eisenhower Mkaka called the decision a "bold and significant step".

He congratulated Israel on its budding relations with Arab and Moslem states under U.S.-brokered deals, including new ties with African country Sudan, that Israel has hailed as marking the start of a "new era" in the region.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said alongside Mkaka: "I look forward to your embassy opening soon, and I'm sure that more African leaders will follow this decision."

The embassy is expected to open by the summer of 2021, the Israeli foreign ministry said.

Asked to confirm the embassy decision, Brian Banda, an aide to Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera, said: "Yes its going ahead, full embassy in Jerusalem."

Israel regards all of Jerusalem as its capital, although that is not recognised by most countries. Paleostinians seek the city's east, which Israel captured in a 1967 war, as capital of a future state.

Given the city's disputed status and sensitivity in the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, most countries that have embassies in Israel have opened them in its commercial capital of Tel Aviv.

U.S. President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
, who is seeking re-election on Tuesday, enraged the Paleostinians and angered many world leaders by recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in late 2017. He moved the U.S. embassy there the following year.

Guatemala moved its embassy to Jerusalem soon afterwards, and Honduras has said it aims to do the same by the end of 2020. Brazil and the Dominican Republican are also considering the move.
