Afghanistan
Defense Ministry to Increase Special Operations Forces in Spring
[ToloNews] The Defense Ministry is preparing to increase special operations forces to face the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
in the upcoming fighting season this spring, Deputy Defense Minister Shah Mahmoud Miakhil said on Tuesday.

Miakhil said that special forces from the army, police and the NDS are preparing together and that no area in the country will face the threat of collapse.

Figures by the Ministry of Defense reveal that the Taliban attacked the centers of seven provinces and the centers of 132 districts in the country since last March, but "their attacks were repelled."

"Commandos, the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the special units of the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
and the Resolute Support forces who are supporting our Air Force are ready," Miakhil said.

The deputy minister did not provide data on the Afghan army’s casualties but said that 18,288 Taliban were killed, over 10,296 were maimed and at least 2,225 were arrested by security forces.

Figures by security agencies show that at least 20 provinces witnessed festivities between government forces and the Taliban over the last 24 hours.
"Our commandos, the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the NDS special units... and the Air Force were brought under one command. With this, our operational preparation will be doubled and tripled," Miakhil added.

The Taliban has denied the government claims.

Afghans said they expect improvement in the peace efforts in the upcoming spring.

"Any side's insistence on fighting will have no outcome except devastation," said Asadullah Nadim, a former military service member.

"The solution is that efforts should be expedited for peace and permanent ceasefire; otherwise, the Taliban’s show of power will increase," said Sayed Zahir Masroor, an MP.

Violence was expected to remain low during the peace efforts, but this did not happen. Figures by security agencies show that at least 20 provinces witnessed festivities between government forces and the Taliban over the last 24 hours.

UNAMA blames Taliban for major ‘civilian casualties’
[KhaamaPress] The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said the level of violence in Afghanistan has sharply risen in the past year with 8829 people killed or maimed.

UNAMA in its recent report on Tuesday indicated that a total of 8829 people, 3035 non-combatants were killed and 5785 others were maimed in the year 2020.

Although the level of violence and civilian casualties has dropped by 15 percent this year compared to last year, it is reported that in the last three quarters of this year the violence increased the number of civilian casualties.

According to UNAMA despite the launch of the intra-Afghan talks and peace efforts, IED blasts, landmines, and assassination have escalated the number of casualties by 45 percent.

UNAMA reported that peace talks in Doha have failed to reduce the level of violence and civilian casualties in Afghanistan.

In the report, Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters were blamed for 46 percent of innocent civilian casualties, ISIS was accountable for 8 percent and the Afghan national defense and security forces were involved in 22 percent of the civilian casualties.

Report added, that 1885 non-combatants were killed and 3574 others were maimed by this year in the attacks carried by the Taliban, and 841 people died and further 1390 others were maimed in the ANDSF offensives.

So far, the Afghan government has not commented on the report, but the Taliban have reportedly denied it.

Al-Shabaab increases terror attacks across Somalia, UN envoy says
[Garowe] The UN has yet again affirmed that al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
has increased attacks in Somalia, something which still raises concerns about the future of the Horn of Africa nation, which has continued to bear the brunt of the group's menace in recent years.

Al-Shabaab first came into place in 2007 and since then, it has continued to wreak havoc and mayhem among innocent civilians and security forces, with government officials also being targeted. Over 5,000 people have been killed by the group across East Africa.

In a statement before the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Security Council [UNSC] on Monday evening, the UN special envoy to Somalia James Swan said the group increased attacks from August 2020 to the beginning of 2021, targeting various strategic points including military bases and various hospitality industries.

"Al-Shabaab continues to pose the primary threat to the security of the country. al-Shabaab has increased its operational tempo since August 2020, and the beginning of 2021 has seen a new peak in the number of attacks, including more Person-Borne and Vehicle-Borne IEDs, targeting government officials and key figures in Somali society," Swan said in a statement.

But the envoy noted security operations have continued to bore fruits especially in Lower Shabelle, where the group has been enjoying support for a couple of years. The military has managed to liberate several strategic towns across the region, with the US precision strikes also eliminating murderous Moslems in Middle Jubba.

"Important military gains were made by Somali Security Forces backed by AMISOM in the Lower Shabelle region in early 2019 and again in early 2020, and these are now being consolidated to enable further progress against Al-Shabaab in other areas," Swan noted. "UNSOS has remained steadfast in delivery of support to AMISOM and eligible Somali forces throughout this period, despite the complications of the COVID pandemic."

Over the weekend, the SNA chief Odawa Yusuf Rageh said 50 bad boyz were potted including Moalim Bukhari, the group's intelligence chief in Lower Shabelle, and Sheikh Hasan Ganeey, the commander of the ops in the southern Somalia region, a further manifestation that the group is losing grip across the country.

Earlier this year, over 700 US Africa Command troops were withdrawn from Somalia following an order by former President Donald Trump
...the Nailer of NAFTA...
. It's not clear if Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant...
will reinstate them but it's understood that they were redeployed elsewhere in the East Africa region.

US, Somalia reveal most wanted Al-Shabaab operatives
[Garowe] The United States and Somalia have revealed three names of most wanted al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
operatives, who have been on the radar for a couple of months but yet to be located given their highly sophisticated modus operandi, that is yet to be unearthed.

At the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Security Council meeting on Monday, the US and Somalia listed the three operatives, who they now want the United Nations to slap sanctions, after establishing that they are linked to the terror group, which controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.

The three include Abukar Ali Aden, deputy leader; Moallim Ayman, the commander of Jaish Ayman; and Mahad Karate, ex-deputy leader and a powerful figure. The measure requires the approval of all UNSC members, but the council will first review the list before voting.

For years, the US and Somalia have often listed names of the al-Shabaab operatives, their financiers, and sympathizers, with many of them now designated by the US State Department. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the designation by the UN takes a little longer due to bureaucracies that are involved.

The move comes just a month after the US withdrew troops from Somalia, who have been training the local Danab troops. Most of the soldiers were redeployed elsewhere in East Africa, the US Africa Command had said in a statement.

In a statement before the United Nations Security Council [UNSC] on Monday evening, the UN special envoy to Somalia James Swan said the group increased attacks from August 2020 to the beginning of 2021, targeting various strategic points including military bases and various hospitality industries.

But the envoy noted security operations have continued to bore fruits especially in Lower Shebelle, where the group has been enjoying support for a couple of years. The military has managed to liberate several strategic towns across the region, with the US precision strikes also eliminating holy warriors in Middle Jubba.

"Important military gains were made by Somali Security Forces backed by AMISOM in the Lower Shabelle region in early 2019 and again in early 2020, and these are now being consolidated to enable further progress against Al-Shabaab in other areas," Swan noted. Africa Subsaharan
Farmer-herder conflict claims more casualties than Boko Haram
[ZAMMAGAZINE] The relationship between farmers and herders has grown increasingly tense amid contestations over land, crop damage, cattle stealing, and violence.

Although the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
insurgency is the most frequently reported security threat, the farmer-herder conflict is now regarded as the most pressing security issue in Nigeria, causing significantly more casualties than Boko Haram and displacing hundreds of thousands of people. The government’s response has received wide criticism, with many claiming they have not done enough to improve security in the region.

The violence began as once-off reactions to incitements but has now escalated to far more violent mostly peaceful planned attacks, increasing ethnic, religious, and regional tensions. These attacks happen most frequently in Adamawa, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Taraba states. In an article for the African Security Review, Emmanuel Terngu Vanger and Bernard Ugochukwu Nwosu wrote that the relationship between farmers and herders has grown increasingly tense in the past three decades amid contestations over land, crop damage, cattle stealing, and violence.

The conflict, predominantly between farming communities in central and southern regions and nomadic herders from northern Nigeria, was initially a result of desertification and drought in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
in the north that prompted the mass migration of herders southwards to look for water and grasslands. Instability in the northeast caused by Boko Haram and organised crime committed by civilians in the rural northwest and central regions has also forced herders to move southwards. This intrusion to the grazing land in the Middle Belt has also been exacerbated by the presence of militias and the introduction of recent laws that ban open grazing in Benue and Taraba state in the norh eastern part of Nigeria. The conflict has spread southward in recent years, posing a significant threat to the country’s stability. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the government response has been lacking, with slow response times, impunity for perpetrators of violence and a lack of policies to curb the tension.

The increase in the severity of the violence and its geographical reach has had dire humanitarian and economic consequences. Although records of the deaths caused by this conflict are not available, the International Crisis Group reported that between 2011 and 2016 over 2000 people died each year as a result of the violence. This corpse count is higher than that of Boko Haram. The conflict has also caused tens of thousands of people to be displaced, with detrimental consequences to the economy.

Because of lack of government intervention conflicts become violent mostly peaceful.

The disputes are often a result of conflicts over land and water usage as well as interferences of migration routes, stealing livestock, and damaging crops. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the origins of these tensions date back far further but are repeatedly reignited by a variety of factors. The rapid increase in human settlements, public infrastructure, and the presence of large-scale and commercial farmers have also reduced the availability of grazing reserves that were originally secured by the post-independence government. The subsequent influx of herders to the Savannah and rainforests in central and south Nigeria in addition to a rapidly growing population means that there is a higher demand for farmland, which has increased tensions and caused more crop damage and cattle theft. The lack of government intervention even at a local level means that these disagreements quickly become violent mostly peaceful.

South Korea to Unlock $7 Billion in Iranian Assets After ‘Consultations' with Biden Admin
Goody. Think of all the Mad Mullahs can do with that much unforged money.
[Breitbart] The South Korean Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that $7 billion in Iranian assets, frozen in two South Korean banks due to U.S. sanctions since September 2019, would be released to Iran following "consultations" with the Biden administration.

"Our government has been in talks with Iran about ways to use the frozen assets, and the Iran side has expressed its consent to the proposals we have made. The actual unfreezing of the assets will be carried out through consultations with related countries, including the United States," the South Korean Foreign Ministry said. The exact details of the financial transfer were not disclosed.

The Korea Times reported the Foreign Ministry was in talks with Washington last month about unfreezing some of the money to pay Iran’s dues to the United Nations, and possibly to use some of the funds to purchase "humanitarian items such as medicine and medical equipment" from a Swiss organization.

The Korea Times, i24 News, Yonhap News, and other outlets speculated as to a possible connection between the release of funds and Iran’s kidnapping of a South Korean oil tanker and its crew from the Persian Gulf last month. Iranian officials repeatedly linked the release of the ship and crew to South Korea unfreezing the $7 billion in frozen oil revenue.

"Early this month, Tehran said it would release the sailors, except for the captain, which coincided with Seoul’s confirmation on the progress in the talks with Washington about using the frozen money for the U.N. dues," Yonhap noted.

i24 described Iran’s seizure of the South Korean tanker as a "massive gamble" that "may have just paid off."

Fifth Column
Lawyers accused of torching NYPD car with Molotov cocktail offered plea deal
[NYPost] The two lawyers charged with torching an empty NYPD van during a Black Lives Matter protest in Brooklyn last summer were offered a plea deal by federal prosecutors earlier this month, according to new court documents.

The suspects, Urooj Rahman
...the pouty, connected Pakistani-American who trained with Hamas before studying human rights law at Fordham. Her self-proclaimed best friend, successful Washington, DC lawyer Salmah Rizvi, previously worked for President Obama as an intelligence analyst ...
and Colinford Mattis,
...Princeton, NYU Law, former corporate law associate at some fancy New York City law firm, along with his sister the primary caregivers for his dead mother’s three foster children — the things ya gotta do in Brooklyn to keep the family’s rent controlled apartment!...
were offered the unspecified deal on Feb. 11, according to a court papers filed Saturday by Brooklyn federal prosecutors.

Specifics about the proposed deal were not clear — nor was whether they accepted.

Prosecutors asked for more time before the next status hearing in the case to "enable defense counsel to review the plea offers with the defendants and for the parties to engage in further plea negotiations."

The pair faced life behind bars when they were indicted last summer on charges including arson, conspiracy and use of explosives.

As anti-cop protesters faced off with police outside the 88 Precinct stationhouse on May 29, Rahman allegedly tossed a Molotov cocktail at an empty NYPD van nearby.

Mattis acted as the wheelman during the Molotov cocktailing and drove off after the van ignited, but the two were arrested a short while later, prosecutors allege.

Prosecutors said in a detention memo at the time that they were trying to pass out Molotov cocktails to protesters at the demonstration.

Mattis, a graduate of Princeton University and the New York University School of Law, was an associate at corporate Manhattan firm Pryor Cashman, but had been furloughed last spring, according to the firm.
Does this mean the firm will take him back, or will he go full time with something supported by one of America’s robust crop of SJW multi-billionaires?
Rahman was also a registered attorney in New York state, who was admitted to the bar in June 2019 after graduating from Fordham University School of Law.
Will they be able to practice law after this, or will they have to work in a related field?
Attorneys for both Rahman and Mattis declined to comment.

#4  These two lawyers knew the law and decided to violate it. They should suffer the Max allowable by law and the Law licenses revoked. But as we know they were offered an unspecified deal on or about Feb. 11.

New York Criminal Code sections 150 and/or 240 are clear their Fire Bombing act can considered a Class C to Class E Felony. If found to be a Violent Felony - anything from 1.5 years to 15+ years. PLUS Loss of their Law Licenses.

Typical plea deals are:
A downgrade from Violent to Non Violent Felony - With a possible deal for Probation only and restitution for the damages and legal costs. Plus a suspended Law License until paid in full and the probation is completed..

However, IF the DA tags their Law Licenses. Then it is likely they'll go to work for a NON-Profit Legal firm. Given the title as a Legal Assistant (non-Licensed) and be paid under the table by some Liberal "Get out of Jail" group fund.

PLUS they will be elevated in Radical liberal status and who knows they could be offered a jobs in Biden's DOJ.

Turkey accuses Greece of 'harassing' research ship in Aegean Sea
[PRESSTV] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
has accused the Greek military of "harassing" a Ottoman Turkish vessel in the Aegean Sea, despite efforts by Athens and Ankara to resolve their differences over the disputed waters.Turkey's Defense Ministry claimed on Tuesday that four Greek F-16 fighters had flown close to the TCG Cesme ship, which was carrying out "technical and scientific research" in waters near the Greek island of Lemnos.

One of the Greek fighter jets was alleged to have flown "at an altitude of 1,000 meters" and dropped a flare "two nautical miles" away from the Ottoman Turkish research ship.

"This is unfortunately one of the frequent acts of harassment by our Greek neighbors," Ottoman Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said in statement.

Without providing further details, Akar said that Turkey had made an "adequate response" to the incident.

"We all believe that such harassment is not appropriate and does not suit good neighborly relations," he added.

Greek media reported that an official from the country's Defense Ministry had denied that its fighter jets had harassed a Ottoman Turkish vessel.

The Biden administration's early efforts to resurrect the 2015 Iran nuclear deal are getting a chilly early response from Tehran. Though few expected a breakthrough in the first month of the new administration, Iran's tough line suggests a difficult road ahead.

India-Pakistan
Why are Kashmiris not protesting?
[DW] Many security experts thought the abrogation of Kashmir’s special status by New Delhi would spark huge protests in the disputed region, but so far this has not happened. What are the reasons behind this seeming calm?

In August 2019, New Delhi revoked the special status of Indian-administered Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
and split the region into two union territories directly governed by the federal government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government also removed protections for locals with regard to land acquisition and jobs in Kashmir.

#1  "After the August 2019 move, authorities increased the military presence in what was already considered the world's most militarized region. I think this is one of the reasons behind a relative silence in Kashmir," Wahid told DW.

....Gotta say, that's some fine analyzin' there, Wahid.

#2  Aug 06, 2019: Jammu and Kashmir has become a Union territory with its own legislature. State GDP growth rate has fluctuated between -3.2% to 17.7% in a matter of just two years. The volatility is common for all major sectors of the economy... With a 56% share, the service constitutes most of J&K’s economy. Other two major sectors are industry at 27.8% and agriculture at 16%. Tourism plays an important role. J&K’s per capita income remained Rs 65,615 in FY18, which is well below the national average of around Rs 98,000. Despite the low per capita income, the poverty rate in J&K is 10.35%, which is almost half of the national average of 21%.

Iraq militia denies role in anti-US attacks, welcomes pressure on Saudi
[AlAhram] The attacks over the past 10 days are an escalation against US sites in Iraq at a time when Washington and Tehran are looking for a way to return to the nuclear deal abandoned by Trump's administration

An Iran-aligned Iraqi militia group on Tuesday denied any role in recent rocket attacks against U.S. targets in Iraq, but said an attack against Soddy Arabia

Netanyahu: Israel will prevent a nuclear Iran whether or not a deal is in place
[IsraelTimes] PM issues warning after Tehran begins restricting access to IAEA inspectors, in further breach of nuke deal; top Israeli officials hold policy meeting as US seeks to reenter accord.

The comments came hours after Iranian state TV reported that the Islamic Theocratic Republic has officially begun restricting international inspections of its nuclear facilities.

Additionally, Netanyahu plans to delegate talks on Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. "The intent is to work everything out at that level, and to keep that communication channel open," a bigwig told Rooters. "Obviously this has benefits where there is a risk of a ’cold shoulder’ at chief-executive level."

Also Tuesday, the Kan public broadcaster reported that senior Israeli and Saudi officials have recently held several phone calls to discuss the Biden administration’s plans to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal.

During the conversations, the Saudis also expressed concern over the new US administration and lamented its focus on human rights
